Popular Post kac
Spent a little time at a permission hunt. Was behind an old barn and dug this post Civ War token. First thought it was an IH penny until I got the dirt off it. My Niece was nice enough to find a better pic on the web. Finding stuff that you have no clue then uncover bits of history makes the day. 聽
schoolofhardNox
Awesome find. So many varieties of patriotic and store card tokens, keeps it fun. Way better than an Indian (unless it's the '77) 馃槃
CPT_GhostLight
Congrats, kac, that's awesome! One of the cool perks of detecting is finding things you thought were mundane (IHPs are not mundane to me聽馃槈) but turn out to be something much better. Always check those finds. Well done!

F350Platinum
Nice one, kac. 馃憤 Apparently these were minted in 1863 as pennies, and then the government banned them. A truly rare and cool Civil War find. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/exonumia30397.html 2

GB_Amateur
Actually a token (specified as a "Patriotic Token"), not an official coin, but it passed as a cent since USA minted coins were hard to come by during the first half of the war.聽 Here's what Katherine Jaeger says in her seminal work: The legality of the (Civil War) token coinage was questionable from the start.聽 (and later) There was no federal law against the use of tokens in trade but clearly the government never inteneded to have its own mint supplanted by private producers.聽 On April 22, 1864, Congress enacted a law forbidding the manufactuer of all tokens in denmoinations of 1 cent and 2 cent,... This particular issue (i.e. the one kac found) is fairly common as can be seen by its estimated value of $10 in fine condition -- listed in the above book (2008 publication date) . Fun find for sure.
Valens Legacy
Very nice find, that has a lot of history in it and is a great find. Thanks for sharing and now it's time to find other like it. You are on the right ground to do that and more. Good luck on your next outing and stay safe.
matt
What a great find! Better than a cent in my opinion. If they made that token today, the person making it would probably get thrown in jail (or get cancelled) since it seams a lot of people don't respect our flag anymore. What a shame!
Rick N. MI
Great find Kac. A token is better find than IH.
