X-Terra Pro - Do We Need Another Single Frequency Detector?

Recommended Posts

Minelab has done everything backwards IMO. If they were smart they would have released the last 4 metal detecting in reverse order 6 months apart from each other. Each one causing a frenzy to get one. Instead they announce the Manticore top of the line detector and then all the subpar units shorty after. Who wants the others when the top of line detector is available. Maybe there's some reasoning  behind how they did the releases, but I don't understand it.

Out of desperation probably, the competition is getting pretty fierce, The Nokta significantly cheaper for a detector hardly different to the Nox 900, not only in performance but in build quality too;    I guess many of us including myself thought Minelab were alone being able to make Multi-IQ, when two other companies possibly three with Quest come along and bring their own multi-IQ versions without (innocent until proven guilty) infringing on patents Minelab did to protect their IP.  I believe it would likely be harder than being the first to bring it to market as even if you have the same idea on how to make it work and you come up with the same or similar method you can't use it, regardless of if you knew that's how they did it, it gives you one less method of achieving the result.

They may believe the Xterra will compete with the Legend, not so much in performance but in an new to detecting customers mind.   They may think their brand name recognition may make it more of a favourable choice for someone new to detecting if similar priced and both claiming to have multi frequencies, not being a SMF wouldn't mean much to someone who doesn't understand any of it and on paper apart from that it seems very similar and still has plenty of frequencies and works in salt.  If they price it around the same it likely would confuse many into buying it over the Legend, they may even make it slightly more expensive to make it look the better choice.  If you look at the Nokta website lately they're really emphasizing that fact, higher priced doesn't necessarily mean better.

I think all of this is a reaction to competition, they're not used to having it and it appears they don't know how to react either.  If only we can get this level of competition in high end gold detectors, life would be good for the consumers.  The Axiom has kicked it off and now we are waiting on Nokta and First Texas with the Impulse Gold (Fingers crossed this comes out) to bring out theirs.

From their own overview on the website, MANTICORE with Multi-IQ+ is the most powerful, fastest, and precise metal detector in Minelab’s history.

So, given their high praise for the Manticore, they're not doing so well when the competition is still right up there with it preferred by many for detectors they'd released a while back now.  I think they're just shell shocked they're not the dominant force they once were.

So, do we need another single frequency metal detector? Of course we don't.  Notka even began killing them off from their line up, including their switchable frequency detectors.  They wouldn't do that if they were good sellers.  Minelab even said they'd not release anymore single frequency detectors.

Good luck with it Minelab.

This is an interesting development.    I guess single frequency isn't dead after all .    So all of us who kept our single frequency and selectable single frequency detectors are not so behind the curve after all.   Thank you Minelab for validating us.

HA!

They did lower prices on some of their big dogs this year, so anything is possible. What would it be competition for though?
