Ridge Runner
Oh i was up there just to see what it took to make it. While I was there I played around on the beach some but did take a look at a small operation away from the water. It was doing fair but even that is not cheap. On the second question that's yes I make a dredge that is a four inch in and out. You can run it under water are on top and runs great both ways. The whole thing is not over two feet long without the intake hose and exhaust pipe. I've been making this one for a long time. I've ran test in a kids pool with some cons a friend gave me that had a fair amount of gold in it. After the test I pan all the cons in the pool and couldn't find any gold in it but my dredge did have some. I sure one could make it whatever size he wanted. Roughwater
Sounds like you have something there. The first year I went to Alaska my partner from Texas had a submersible dredge he bought from someone. I think it was a 4" also. However, though it would catch the coarse gold it wasn't catching the fine gold. Since there wasn't much coarse gold and we were newbies and just started dredging where a local guy's dowsing rods crossed we didn't do real well. I assume you found fine gold in your dredge since you found no gold in the pool? If a guy was going to AK It would be best to have at least a 6" dredge. There are a lot of Rec areas up there that only cost the price of registering the dredge though some of the creeks only permit a 5" or less dredge. Ridge Runner
Terry My friend went to Alaska with a 5 are 6 inch. i just don't remember what it was but I do know it got heavy. You need to remember we are not as young and strong as time past. A 4 inch cost less and one guy can work it but better to have two guys on any size dredge. When I was in Alaska a guy came out and said he was going to get help to get his dredge out. the Bears was over running him and he had ran out of shot gun shells to keep them off. So he had to leave out while he could. While I was there I never had trouble like that. The best advice I can give to you is go with someone you know you can out run. I never had problems with the Bears either though I know they weren't far away as we would run across their fresh scat pretty regular. Think I recall finding a shredded GPAA hat in some scat. What can you do the 50 in Chuck? Terry
Ridge Runner
Terry I don't try to run because I just can't run fast like in years past. I do carry a gun so I can shoot you in case I can't out run you. On that I'll say goodnight. chuck
Ridge Runner
The waters of Nome have been hit so hard as we see on TV.. I'd find a claim I could work with a creek running that i could get access to.. You could run a dredge in the creek and bring the material to the dredge. This would cut down on equipment one needs. You take a trommel and it's more yet more equipment. When you say equipment it means more money. The trouble comes when you got to move over burden and how much. I seen one claim where the gold didn't have over 6 inches of dirt you had to remove. The trouble is you may spend the first year finding what fits your need. Then come back the next ready to go find gold. At one time in my life I'd no trouble going for it but time is not on my side.
