Guest Jennifer
Guys (and gals), there's an area here in Rye Patch that's under a high voltage power line that everyone with their 7000's and 2300's won't bother detecting due to the obvious issues but I recall people being able to run a DD in, I think it was cancel mode or something like that. Granted you'll lose depth but where they (and my 7000 can't go), I know there's gold there as I've seen BIG gold from a dozer push near by and was thinking of swining my GPX 5000 at. I have a few double d's in my bag of tricks here (glad I brought them) and am thinking about giving it a go. Any tips from those who've attempted this? Do you run in DD, Mono or Cancel? Sadly I don't have a Nugget Finder XP coil which I believe was intended for this purpose. Thanks all. Jen

matt
Coiltek made an anti interference coil for working under power lines for the GP and GPX. I bet Rob or Doc can get you one. If not, I may have one you can borrow for a bit if I can find it. Edit: yes you can work in cancel mode but you will lose a lot of depth and sensitivity. Thx Matt... appreciate the lend offer, specifically looking for info re DD use I already have but thanks. Jen
phoenix
Hey Jennifer, as you say, you lose heaps of depth running a DD in cancel but I have found gold directly underneath powerlines with a 5000, DD and cancel. Go for it. Dave
Randy Lunn
Wow, fantastic videos. This solves a real problem I have been struggling with. Thank you.
Northeast
Hi Jen, I have actually used the 7000 right near high voltage transmission lines here in AUS without issue. Couple of noise cancels and all was good. Maybe have to get the Z back out of the closet I did also ask about power lines and the different detectors that work ok. I'll link it in if I can find it. Whatever you use I hope it works for you Here 'tis. Might be something interesting in there.
deutran
Hi Jennifer You can get a little more depth with an 8"mono and low Rx.Still works really well near power lines.
bado1
Hey Jen, I'm surprised at how well the DD in cancel works under the power lines . Definitely worth a go. The 15" Detech coil that you pictured is awesome though it will require a bungee. Very sensitive for a large DD. I found sub gram nugs at good depth at the Q with it last season. I then decided to detect some power lines in my area that most everyone else had avoided. I got the 8" Detech DD from Rege-PA ( Detech rep, forum member, provides excellent service) and was very impressed at how sensitive this coil is...even in cancel!! I nailed a few very small sub gram nugs with it at respectable depth. Detech coils truly are an advancement in DD technology. Dean
