Warranty What’s It’s Value To You ?

I know over the years I’ve had to send a detector back for repair. One was back to White’s and the other to Minelab. I’ve had others in the past but both was in the last year.

On a lot of electronics the warranty is for a year. That is not the case on that detector you have. I’d say most of the time the detector company will pay to ship it both ways.

I don’t care if you paid 200 or 7000 that warranty has great value to you.

I’d like to hear your story how that warranty saved your bacon.

Touch wood, only used MD detector warranty once on a GM2, 20 odd years back, however have had a few claims on coils. Considering the rough treatment they receive and the environment they work in I consider MD manufacturers are pretty spot on with their gear.

I bought a 2300 used with just over a year and a half of warranty left.  I used it for a year and was starting to have problems with the knuckle being loose.  I couldn't tighten it much more without feeling like something was going to break.  I called up Minelab and they said send it in.  Cost me $50 with insurance.  A week later I got a brand new 2300.  No complaints about having to pay the shipping back to them.  Thank you Minelab!!

I've also had a couple coils now, one from White's and one from Makro.  Both with cable issues and each less than a year old.  Both replaced with new ones.  The White's I had to pay to send it in which I didn't mind since I bought it used.  The Makro, which I also bought used...  I just contacted them and was able to prove what the problem was and I got another about a week later.  The one with the problem still works as long as I don't flex the cable in a certain spot, so it's a 'back-up' in case something happens with the new one.  Thank you White's and Makro!!

My Tesoro's a Silver Saber Plus , Tiger Shark and a Tejon,  have all been back for repairs with shipping one way. I can not say enough about the Tesoro lifetime warranty I have had the Silver Saber Plus  for over 30 years and still use it with the clean sweep coil for clad hunting. Wish I could find a clean sweep for the tejon . I had to send my Pro Pointer back for repairs and could not find the receipt I had to take their word it was out of warrant cost $50. All receipts now stay with the box they came in and go in to storage.

You that spoke about trouble with coils have been saved by the warranty. I myself for all the years I’ve been detecting have yet to have a problem with a coil.

The thing that may not have contributed to a coil problem was a limited number back then. The coil that came with the detector was put on and never came off. I know this to be true on one of my Detectors.

Warranties have been a life saver for me. Seems like I am the unlucky guy on the block. Several years ago, I bought a new Coiltec 16" mono for my GPX 4000. They had some problems with several of these coils that fell into a range of serial  numbers and  mine was among them. I was on my fifth one before I got a good one. They were all handled very professionally with no hassles and a letter explaining the problem and the serial numbers of the ones after the design change. Thank you Coiltec and Doc's Detecting.                                                                                              Next came my new CTX 3030. The second time I tried to use it, it failed. Minelab resolved my problem very fast and  I had a new one in about a week. Thank you Minelab and Creek Detectors.                                                                                                                                                                           Next was my B and Z  Booster, It suddenly decided not to work. It was replaced, no questions asked. Thank You J. P. and Doc's Detecting.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               My last experience was with my GPZ 7K.  The select button quit working. I must have been in the transition between the two companies doing the repairs for Minelab. They paid the freight both ways, very happy about that. Minelab had it in their possession for three weeks before they contacted me, repaired and back to the shipping department the same day.  Thank You Minelab. Only bad was the length of time without my detector.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         I cannot imagine the problems and costs I could have had without warranties.                                                                                                                                                                                                                Norm McQ

I’d say you’re a man that got his monies worth out of a warranty you didn’t have to pay a dime for.

The great thing about any detector company they don’t say we going to do you a big favor and sell you a warranty.

      A Man's Age - as Determined by a Trip to Bunning's  (Bunning's is an Aus. large retail hardware outlet.)

      You are in the middle of some kind of project around the house --.
      Mowing the lawn, putting in a new fence, painting the living room or
      You are hot and sweaty, covered in dust, lawn clippings, dirt or paint.
      You have your old work clothes on.
      You know the outfit -- shorts with the hole in the crotch, old T-shirt with
      a stain from
      who-knows-what and an old pair of tennis shoes.

      Right in the middle of this great home improvement project you realise you
      need to run to Bunnings to get something to help complete the job.

      Depending on your age you might do the following:

      In your 20's:
      Stop what you are doing. Shave, take a shower, blow dry your hair, brush
      your teeth, floss and put on clean clothes.
      Check yourself in the mirror and flex.
      Add a dab of your favourite cologne because you never know, you just might
      meet some hot chick while standing in the checkout lane. And you went to
      school with the pretty girl running the register.

      In your 30's:
      Stop what you are doing, put on clean shorts and shirt. Change shoes.
      You married the hot chick so no need for much else. Wash your hands and comb
      your hair.
      Check yourself in the mirror. Still got it. Add a shot of your favourite
      cologne to cover the smell.
      The cute girl running the register is the kid sister to someone you went to
      school with.

      In your 40's:
      Stop what you are doing. Put on a teeshirt that is long enough to cover
      the hole in the crotch of your shorts.
      Put on different shoes and a hat. Wash your hands.
      Your bottle of Brut Cologne is almost empty so you don't want to waste any
      of it on a trip to Bunnings
      Check yourself in the mirror and do more sucking in than flexing.
      The hot young thing running the register is your daughter's age and you feel
      weird thinking she is spicy.

      In your 50's:
      Stop what you are doing. Put on a hat; wipe the dirt off your hands onto
      your shirt.
      Change shoes because you don't want to get dog c**p in your new sports car.
      Check yourself in the mirror and you swear not to wear that shirt anymore
      because it makes you look fat.
      The Cutie running the register smiles when she sees you coming and you think
      you still have it.
      Then you remember the hat you have on is from Gunmart's Bait Bar
      and it says, 'I Got Worms.'

      In your 60's:
      Stop what you are doing. No need for a hat anymore.
      Hose the dog c**p off your shoes. The mirror was shattered when you were in
      your 50's.
      You hope you have underwear on so nothing hangs out the hole in your pants.
      The girl running the register may be cute, but you don't have your glasses
      on so you are not sure.

      In your 70's:
      Stop what you are doing. Wait to go to Bunnings until the Chemist has your
      prescriptions ready, too.
      Don't even notice the dog c**p on your shoes.
      The young thing at the register stares at you and you realise your balls are
      hanging out the hole in your crotch.

      In your 80's:
      Stop what you are doing. Start again. Then stop again.
      Now you remember you need to go to Bunnings. Go to K-Mart instead and wander
      around trying to think what it is you are looking for.
      Fart out loud and you think someone called out your name.
      You went to school with the old lady who greeted you at the front door.

      In your 90's & beyond:
      What's a bundings ? Something for my garden?
      Where am I ? Who am I ? Why am I reading this ?
      Did I post it ? Did you? Who farted ?

      I have sent an e-mail to Felix at FT with these pictures.  Hopefully they just send me a new rod ASAP.  This is what happens when you hunt wet sand and California surf.  Or it could just have been a poor quality made rod.  Hoping for that latter as the wet sand California surf is the only place I have to use the Impulse AQ and don't want to have to worry about this again.

      I have an EQ600 with a full set of coils. I was at Laguna yesterday with the large coil. I am using bluetooth earbuds that have been recommended by others. There was a lot of black sand where I was hunting. I was having the detect audio stutter like it was overloading bluetooth or the headset although I played with the detector audio and couldn’t reduce the stutter. There also seemed to be indications of a bad coil connection at the coil. Wiggle it a bit and you hear a crackle.  Never got a full disconnect though. I later ran all metal and maybe the stutter was less not sure. In disc I was stock settings masking zero and below.  But that should be a nice audio cancel - should hear good targets without them being chopped up. I found stuff but it was a miserable detecting experience. I played with recovery speed and went between beach 1 and 2 modes.  Tried messing with ground balance types too.  I found that if I was in black sand areas pinpoint would help me locate possible targets and I’d just dig them without much clue from Lcd ID or tone (running 50 tones).  I didn’t have the other coils with me to test. I tried sensitivity 17 on up. Normally was 22/23.  I was experiencing bad latency with the earbuds that I don’t remember being an issue with the 11” coil.  Just a real test of my brain the whole day.

      I either need someone to help me find a manual to download for the original bandido (not 2) or I need info on what the little black knob is on the back of the control housing. Maybe how to ground balance it. General information about it.

      Does anyone know specifically what goes wrong with the Garrett AT pin pointers? Both of mine were sent in previously, and both of them developed the same issue again. They turn on but do not detect any metal. Is it the electrolytic capacitor, the flat pack The IC or is it in the coil itself that is the problem? Is that long rod a radio frequency coil? I'm kinda getting tired of pin pointers dying like that. Any ideas would be helpful.

      Hello, I had a problem with my metal detector, I was using it in the water, after several months it does not turn on and shows the message "CD" on the screen and then you can see the water inside ..
      the guarantee I change it for another without problems a fast process
        I have read, that water enters through the union of the handle to the pda (subjecting screws to the mast), according to what they say, this problem only happens to those made in Malaysia ... those made in Australia do not have that problem, the first series they come out perfect
      does anyone know about this topic?
      How do I know where my detector was manufactured?
      I can attach photos of the box (where the manufacture comes) and compare with other users..thanks
      my detector is equinox 800 February 2020
