Lots Of Gold Found With The White's TDI

Recommended Posts

The GMT SuperPulse is a stripped down TDI SL. Locked into ground balance mode, factory preset at Pulse Delay of 10, no Target Conductivity switch. So just get a TDI SL, leave it in ground balance mode, leave the Pulse Delay set at 10, and leave the Target Conductivity switch set for both, and you are good to go.

I heard a rumor Jimmy Sierra can get them. I guess I should call and find out. Would not be a bad unit if the price was low enough.

Steve. Does your TDI have a belt clip on it, and if so do you find that a useful option. Also I see were they made a about 6x10

eliptical dual field mono coil for it. In Arizona/ Socal, would that be a useful coil to have?

Thanks

Tom

Mine does have the hip mount clip on it - all TDI and TDI Pro models do I believe. The SL is rod mount only. I do like hip mounting it but I push it back over my wallet pocket. That way it is not in way when I bend over. It also comes with clips for chest mounting and I am going to rig a harness for that. It keeps the controls more accessible and less prone to getting knocked around. It also puts less strain on the coil cable where it enters the control box. Hip mounting tends to be hard on cables.

The 6x9 is a good coil. There is a reason that size coil comes on so many nugget detectors. Just a good size, covers ground sweeping sideways, narrow for poking into places, and solid so as to not hang up on stuff.

Hi steve

looking at a used tdi pro , do you think the 12 in.coil would be good for the ground at winn.that

we have to cover the acres? There is a smaller coil comes with it. Just want to cover square ft.

the ground here should let this unit work pretty well dont you think?

Hi Rick,

I honestly think that in low to moderate ground you may as well just use a mid-frequency VLF in all metal mode as a TDI. An MXT would probably do as well there in Prospect mode. What is it about a TDI there that you were hoping to achieve? I did not think the ground around Winnemucca was all that hot. I was running my GMT at max gain and it ran fine, if a little noisy on the ground. An MXT should run pretty smooth there. If you want I could meet you there with my TDI sometime. Unless you have a really good deal on a TDI and are wanting to pull the trigger.

If I can use a VLF instead of a TDI I will use the VLF. If the hot rocks are making the VLF go bonkers, that is reason to break out a TDI. Just my opinion on that subject.

That dual field mono is a good little coil, but it is no longer available through Whites.Another great coil on the TDI's is the NF 8X6 Sadie, its made for the Minelab GP series detectors, but you just need to run a extra rubber washer between it and the Whites shaft and it works great.

Say what? That is news. I do not see it on the website now that you mention it, but I figured that was an oversight. Temporarily unavailable or no longer being made?

      Hi,
Is there a modification to have on the TDI Beach Hunter the same "Target Conductivity" switch as on the TDI Pro / TDI SL ?
Ie all sounds, or just "High Conductor" or just "Low Conductor"?
I had a TDI SL and I might buy a used TDI Beach.
      Thanks.

I want to make a mono search coil for tdi sl.  Can you help with the search coil values?

I saw this video posted by Chicago Ron about his visit this summer to the AKAU operation in Nome. From YouTube:
“1 week trip to Nome Alaska with 7 other hunters. We tried everything they had. 2 days working the slick plate, groups of 2 for half a day. High banking and panning, and lots of detecting tailing piles that had been pushed with a dozer. Mike got the find of the trip with a 7.93 ounce specimen worth well over 20K. I had the most nuggets with 7 and we all got gold and had a blast! Already planning the return trip End of July 2022”

I just watched this Whites Video with Josh Bohmker.  He found a way to take a couple of D-rings similar to those on the old Goldmasters and chest mounted the SL.
      Very cool!

I came across a french prospecting website where some interesting mods had been done to their White's TDI SLs.... for instance:
      1. Removal of resistor R86 within the gain circuit - providing a boost to the gain control.  They believe this was to make it stable, for less complaints.  Removal of this resistor provided additional gain reserve.  They had some good results with their testing.
      2. Placing thick o-rings under some of the pot knobs.  Helps to add some friction and avoid dials turning themselves accidentally, especially with the above modification.
      3.  With a single +16V battery pack, there was feedback that depth seemed to increase on the TDI SL.  However, this came at a cost of over-driving the 16V rated power capacitors as well as other circuits on the board.  Potentially shortening their life, by running them full time.  The moderator seems to have been able to add another battery pack in series (6V) with the 12V pack, and use a toggle switch to drive the voltage above 18V temporarily.  This "boost mode" was done as a method of improving a faint signal on-the-fly.  Just a flick of a switch, double-check that faint signal, and then back off.
Ultimately, it seems they were discussing driving the coil with it's own 18V external battery and using the standard 12V battery pack to drive the rest of the board (logic).  Basically driving the pulses in the coil without going through the voltage regulator, via a large MOSFET.  Unsure if they actually were able to do this mod.

Anyways, just thought they were some interesting ideas those french detectorists were messing with.

Hello everyone!  I'm new to the forum and have been an on-again, off-again DFX user for the last ten years (family, kids, work, life, yada yada yada).  I picked up a used TDI SL special edition.  Figured since we moved to Colorado back in 2014 - why not?  I had always wanted one and this one came with a few coils and a Li-Ion converted pack.
I wanted to ask - I went out to the backyard to give it a run through.  Found a few nails scattered through the yard.  However, I noticed I could not use any type of ground balance, as the machine would start to 'pulse' in my ear and sometimes increase in intensity like a feedback loop.  If I completely turned off ground balance, it wasn't an issue.  I came to find out that the closer I was to my service panel, it would increase.  This would make sense since the power lines most likely pass underground through my backyard.
My question is: are there any concerns with damaging the front-end receiver on the TDI SL?  It was rather alarming when I flipped on ground balance.
      Thanks in advance!
      Gabe
