Information About Coil - Minelab 18” Super Goldsearch?

Recommended Posts

I just bought on eBay this coil minelab "super goldsearch 18". I bought it as a project for the tdi.
I showed it to a friend with many years in the hobby, he told me that he had seen it many years ago and that he remembers it for the "beautiful design". It looks like the lid of a garbage can.

According to when it was manufactured, it was a very expensive coil, designeg for the SD,  but it has no more information.
Does anyone know anything about this coil?

Hey Hispana.   I`ve got one and used it with my 5000.   I found it to be a increadably stable coil with good sensitivity.   Back in those days it used to feel like I was swinging a barbeque plate because of the weight,  but I`m guessing if I were to use it today it would feel light compared to the 19" coil on the 7000. It's good news to know that performance is not as bad as the appearance, but it definitely needs a facelift.
Thanks guys.

Notice it says 'made in Australia'. You won't see that on Minelab products any more.

A Minelab dealer down Geelong way put up the below post about an Aussie company starting to make GPZ coils.
Interesting timing, wonder if the Russian guys have forced Minelabs hand to allow a local 3rd party to make coils.
Here is the link to the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/luckystrikegold/
Not looking to start a fight here, just sharing info. I don't care what coils everyone wants to run lol

Brand new GPZ coil coming soon! 🤩
There is a rumour in the wind that an Australian company will soon be making GPZ 7000 coils.
At present there are only Russian made after market coils being made, so hold off and bag yourself a genuine Aussie made one. They will be cheaper than the Russian coils and, as always, very well made.

Clearly, with the huge amount of interest that is being shown in the after market coils for 7000, it`s obvious that there is a market out there for coils other than 14'' and 19".       I don`t take the 19" out much because I have had very little success with it and with my bad wrists it`s just too damn heavy, but Minelab did tell us in the early days of marketing the 7000 that they would be releasing a 11" coil down the track, and now there is another company that nobody has ever heard of making a huge range of coils that are lighter and have so far been very well received by the public.
      What`s going on Minelab?

I have a Vaquero with the stock 8"x9" concentric coil.  I'm wondering if I should get a DD.  There are quite a few out there, for example the Tesoro 5"x10" (stock on the Lobo SuperTraq) and similar size (open structure, though) by Mars and also Cors/Nel.  I'm only interested in coin hunting with this detector.  Anyone out there with experience care to comment whether or not I'll see (hear!) much difference if I get one of the DD's?

      G’day Guys,
Can anyone say if this coil is a mono or DD please? It was supplied by the seller with the QED.
      Thanks.
      Al.
