Finally Arrived, Still Have To Wait

Recommended Posts

I sold a Gold Bug 2 and bought an Equinox 800 to add to my arsenal.  It finally arrived but still to early to head out.  I want to try it on some trashy tailings piles where I have found nuggets in the past.  Just got to get rid of the snow!

Good luck with it.

I had it for a couple months and I am very happy with it.As I am at the moment in Europe I can not talk about gold nuggets finds but its fantastic on coins/gold in the sea and coins on land.

Easy to set up and use.

I am sure you will find a few nuggets with  it.

Stay safe and dig all.

High Bear, ordered mine last Wendsday showed up Thursday. AMDS is slow😜

Whent up to the claim  yesterday to check my dredge, water flow jumped overnight and blew my plans to dredge but I did tote the EQX along and got a short hunt in to check the prospecting mode.

Nice little nugget and great pictures.  How did your spring mining go?

With all of the pictures of the little stuff people are finding that detector is going to shine south of Anchorage.  I may need to get down there for a weekend

Did you try Multi IQ? It is unbelievable what can happen in that setting. The EQ is a fun detector on gold, full of surprises with that 11" coil.  Nice little find. They will keep coming...I am sure. Thanks for sharing.

Good luck out there

That was no nugget, hell it was a flat thin flake. Really surprised the EQX got it. Found about four more even smaller! All on bedrock and just a slight waiver in the thresh hold, the one pictured actually zipped pretty good!

Spring dredging didn't happen for me, Dad passed last month and I missed the low water flow. Hopping to still get in and give it a go this weekend. Looks like the water is dropping to 1000 cfs that's gonna be tough but I did sample my spot two weekends back and it looks promising so we'll see. If not I will move the dredge to a new spot that will be easy to dredge.

So far I really like the new EQX, I put  my F19 and gold racer up for sell and we'll see about the Ecal. Looks like I may be down to the EQX and my GPX 5000? Really is cool I can use one machine to hit the beach for rings, hunt gold in the hills and hammer the parks for silver coins that by the way do not exist in Anchorage!

Just ordered some Grey Ghost phones today for  hunting wet locations. So I'll see about that soon.

How about you, any dredging yet?

Hey JW, No I ran it in 40KH figured the gold I would find was going to be small and I was short on time. But the next time I will.  I have used it in gold mode at the park and at the beach and If the trash isn't to bad I really think it would be a killer on micro jewelry!

I think I have about 15 hours or so on it but I can see it having the ability to be impressive in many different areas.

Best of luck to you!

SJM

Sorry to hear about your dad.

No dredging here yet.  It has been such a late spring.  Once it finally warmed up there was so much snow the rivers are full.  I probably won't be able to get out for another couple weeks.  I am going to take a drive this weekend to check it out though.

JW, I really need to get into the manual more and watch some videos.  I like following your adventures and now with Simon it's even better!

Hi there SJM, Sorry too to hear about your dad .

I am pretty sure that when you use Multi IQ on your Nox you will leave it glued in that setting. . Alaska's ground sounds very similar to ours here in New Zealand. Mostly glacial type affected deposits with pretty mild ground conditions. Not a mix of ground mineral rich soup. Best of luck on your gold season.

Bear. Thank you for your kind words. We are coming into our winter now so it won't be so inviting to get up into the hills swinging. Simon is very enthusiastic....... I remember those days of being out there in almost every type of weather condition: rain, snow, ice & sleet. Frozen rock hard ground ..... Such is the fever. Very best of luck for when you can get stuck into your dredging season.

Cheers

JW

I've noticed when I transition from submerged saltwater to bone dry beach my ground balance will shoot up into the 50-70's until the coil drys up. My quandary, should I trust this reading or manually set it at what I know the dry beach is (usually is 0 to 7)? I've tried both and it doesn't seem to matter much, but then there's always the fear of missing something due to an incorrect setting and I just wanted to confirm the best practice.
      Thanks in advance!

I scored a permission a few days and finally got to it today. Although not very old, it turned into a very productive hunt. I was using an Equinox 600 and was digging everything from nickles up. First sweep yielded a wheaty, that's a great way to start a permission. Little did I know I would spend the next 5 hours digging almost almost nothing but coins. Almost every sweep netted a coin or something cool, fortunately, everything was shallow. After almost 2 hours of digging nothing but copper memorials and wheats, when I get a solid and repeatable 33 on the nox. I flip the dirt over and felt a metal object hit my digger :headbang: big silver!!! I love these coins, I thought I might find a silver Washington or maybe a Bengy, but, the Walker was a big surprise. That was only the beginning of a great silver day from a rather small yard. As you can see, lots of neat fun stuff came out of the yard, the 3 small Mexican coins were in the same hole. It appears to have been a homemade piece of jewelry because the solder joints look a bit rough. I also found some kind of trade token, but I cannot make out what it is because it's worn pretty bad.
I went over the place 3 times from different directions and will be going over it one more time with the Etrac just to see if the Nox and I missed anything. I also have another permission a couple of houses down from this one. I plan on trying to get into several others as well. Very unusual yard, I found a silver rosie on top of the ground last week when I was delivering the mail to this house, which is what prompted me to ask for permission. Several of the wheats were barely under the surface, the Walker was maybe 2" deep, nothing over 5"  It appears that this yard has never had grass or has been worked since the house was built, barely a blade of grass, just dirt :icon_scratch:

      Hi all!

FINALLY, after a long wait, I have a 6" coil on the way.  I'm really looking forward to trying this coil in some really trashy spots I have in mind.
A question for anyone that has the coil -- have you done any depth comparisons with it and the 11"?  I'm curious as to how much depth would be lost, given equal settings, on a coin-sized target?
      Thanks!

      Steve

Which end of the Nox is the waterproof end? Is it the coil cable end OR the coil receptacle on the back of the controller? Or, are both waterproof? When I rinse my Nox off after a beach hunt I cover both connectors with my thumb so as not to get the pins or the pin receptacles wet. Does anybody know what the thread count is on the connectors? I would like to get a male and a female solid end so as to rinse the Nox off without any possible water problems.
Thanks for any info on this matter.
