Forgive my ignorance, but will the Gray Ghost NDT's not do the trick with the GM1000? They are available with an 1/8" plug option. Maybe it's a little more complicated than that.

I'm new to this game, and have just been lurking for a while. I will be dropping the hammer on a GM1000 (my first metal detector) soon and I'm trying to get my ducks in a row before making the purchase. On-ear headphones hurt my ears very quickly, and I have to have over the ear models. The Gray Ghosts seems to get unanimous praise for comfort and sound quality. I guess I should just email DetectorPro to see if they know if the 1/8" NDT model will work for disabling the GM1000 speaker.
