Rick K - First Member
The rock was found in Central Oman about 5 miles from the location of a documented lunar meteorite. It looked interesting enough to Randy Korolev at Washington University that he agreed to look at a piece of it. Detailed analysis confirmed his initial impression when he saw the piece I sent - terrestrial ?. The big white thing is a whale skull. My wife and I came across it while driving along a beach a few hundred miles south of Muscat, the Omani capital. Would have looked great in our yard back in Muscat, but the darned thing must have weighed a lot - we couldn’t budge it. Still, the yard looked OK without it. Those were the days. 2
Rick K - First Member
Since I wasted everybody’s time reminiscing, here’s an offering. Here’s a link to a Website on meteorites and detectors. Some interesting stuff including posts by Jim Straight and Reg Sniff. http://www.whiteriverprep.com/meteor/meteor.html

mn90403
Dave, Dave, Dave ... I just saw this. That is way out of the ordinary. Great job. How many days were you there? I've been there and near the RR tracks a few times to no avail. My finds are very small. It just shows it takes a lot more than just location often times. Mitchel Hi Mitchel, Thank you !!! Myself, Richard Garcia, and another buddy of mine Eric were there for 2 days. Its a hard area to hunt nowadays to get anything over a gram or two. I just got lucky, right place at right time kind of thing. Dave
