Pin Pointer Question

Recommended Posts

I have a Garrett carrot and I have noticed in some videos that people using them turn them on while touching the turf or sand before using them to find their target. I know why this is done, but is it really necessary? I was wondering how many of you, on this forum, do this?

I think it just depends upon your ground minerals.  Low mineralization -- you don't need it.

Yup, just a way to tune the Carrott to ground that it would signal on otherwise.

If you turn the pinpointer on in the air, and it then signals when put to bare dirt... that is a sign that you need to have the tip to the ground before you turn it on.

This works for many pinpointer models.

It's not absolutely necessary however ground balancing the pin pointer in this manner reduces false signals and gives more accurate pin pointing of the target before digging.
