Military Dog Tags - Advice On How To Return

Hi All-

A friend of mine found a set of Military dog tags today and he was wondering how to get them back to the owner. The internet says, 'send them to the Secretary of Defense'. He would like to get them back to the owner personally. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

See if you can find them via internet.

Are they still alive??

If not try find a grave.  Find a grave will show siblings and spouse and children.

Usually if they are veteran it will say so, and their military rock may be shown with tombrock.

In most cases you can drop them off at the post office.   Most installations have a IG (Inspector General) or personnel center .... they will ensure they get to the right place.   You can call these offices and they can give you a few more options...... such as retirees contacts.   As both an IG and AG (Adjutant General) SGM i used to locate them all the time.
