Ls.pelso Waterproof Headphones Update

Just FYI.....On 8 Sep, I posted my review of the LS Pelso waterproof headphones for the Equinox...link below

I waited to get my own however until the new version with the longer cable was delivered to Kellyco.  They came in this past week and I immediately picked up a set and tried them in my test garden and backyard.  I was honestly hearing more tones and more clearly than ever. The volume was much more than adequate. They fit over my hat better than others I've used and were very comfortable as I stated in that initial review.  

The extended cable made a world of difference as they have a 24" straight section that connects to the control box and can be routed and attached under the detector shaft all the way to the shaft's back end where the coiled section begins....a big improvement!

My first impression of these headphones was not only confirmed but enhanced...so much so that I picked up a second set for use on my CTX 3030!

Question...... how do they compare to say a pair of GOOD headphones....... like Pro Golds or black widows... something with a speaker?   Have you done an audio decibel reading using one of the simple apps/meters on line?   There are a lot of phones coming out now..... but its difficult to know what they might be capable of without some sort of comparison.

The LS Pelso headphones use speakers and although I haven't done a formal decibel test, these are the only headphones I've used where I had to turn down the volume.

I don't know about the Black Widows but I can tell you that I replaced my Gray Ghost Amphibians with the LS Pelso headphones.

Are you talking the NEW GGA?   Most of the pairs i have using speakers tend to run about 10 dbs higher than those with Piezos.    Seems we are getting a lot of choices now..... thats good for us.

I received a set of these headphones and when screwed into the back of the equinox 800 I noticed a gap between the silver knurled knob and the base of the mount.  It is tight and one thread is still showing.  This could permit water to go down the threads.  Should there be a washer in there or is this normal?  Did not want to overtighten or submerse without knowing.  Thanks for any help.

Not an issue.  The screw-in connector is not meant to be the 100% waterproof seal.  The jack itself is sealed with an o-ring internally to keep water from entering the housing (think of the non-watertight plastic dust cover that covers up the jack when no headphone is connected).   The extra threads on the headphone connector ensure positive engagement of the plug into the jack, keep debris out of the cavity, and will mostly keep moisture out, better than the dust cover piece.

Be sure to thoroughly rinse and dry the headphone jack cavity area with freash water if you notice any salt water intrusion into the area to prevent corrodion over time.

Chase is totally accurate..... its sealed.   If for some reason you need better water protection...... try a couple of wraps of teflon tape on the threads.
