Why not go completely wireless?

You wont regret it!

This is my wife Amber's setup on her 5000.Resized_Resized_20200209_200359.thumb.jpeg.b5995d28c4f6b805df638dcd5b5315ae.jpegResized_20200209_200542.thumb.jpeg.28efe00fc2f23de51d589712f1411d77.jpegResized_20200209_200445.thumb.jpeg.0d76509ceadf85040c6a88d755430d6b.jpeg

The setup consists of a RC battery,  minelab prosonic wireless system and a patch lead that I  made from the prosonic wire and an old coily cord that I  spliced together to make the patch lead. They are held in place with velcro and the control box cover easily fits over the transmitter and battery as shown.

Its way lighter than the other setups pictured as the RC battery has no ally case or amplifier.

And of course its wireless! Just carry the speaker anywhere or plug headphones into it, no annoying wires connecting you to the detector. After going wireless... using wired setups are like dragging a convict ball and chain!

Wireless audio on the GPX is indeed a game changer and the ML Pro Sonic wireless system is top notch but also a pretty penny.  See this post for a much less expensive low latency wireless solution.  The only thing it lacks is the speaker option.  But for a couple hundred bucks difference, it ain't bad.

I liked the idea of using an alternative smaller battery on my GPX and was always looking for the best solution. It's easy to go wireless on the audio, I found the Quest wirefree mate perfect for wireless audio on mine to connect to my external speakers however it was not so easy to sort out a good battery solution.

Woody has a kit he sells that gives people an easy option for a light weight battery without having to do any chopping and soldering and I felt it was a good price.  Due to getting a GPZ I never did bother to get the battery kit but prior to the GPZ decision it was certainly high on my radar.  It even includes the mounting gear for your control box and lasts about 13 hours of detecting.

https://detectormods.com/shop/63/lightweight-battery-kit

The thing I disliked about the GPX was the cord for the battery dangling around getting caught on everything and having to have the battery strapped to my back.    It's the primary reason along with the weight that I often use the QED a lot more than the GPX.  Similar in performance with the QED with the QED I think having the edge on the smaller stuff but the GPX and it's cords always annoyed me.   The QED just needed wireless audio which was easy to sort out as it's batterys are inside it's box on the detector.

I think Minelab's next model PI if there is one should sort out this battery issue, it probably should have been sorted out on the GPX 5000 as battery technology has changed a lot over the years.  Look how small the GPZ battery is compared to the GPX.  I think a new lightweight GPX with wireless audio at a reasonable price would be a very good seller as long as they didn't lock down coils on it and allow it to use the existing GPX coils, however unlikely that maybe 🙂

I payed $24 AUD each for the RC batterys and $60 for a charger that balance charges two at once from flat in under 2hrs off ebay.

I did look at other transmitters but I wanted the speaker as its WAY to hot where we are working to wear headphones and we prospect for a living so the extra cost is negligible to us.

Amber more than payed for the whole setup on the first day with her finds anyway.

Awesome, are the same ones still for sale? do you have the link still to the seller?

I took a photo of the charger so you can source it.

I bought them some time ago off ebay.com (not ebay.com.au).

I've knocked up a few of the patch leads for friends who liked Amber’s setup. The last one I did my friend bought two 8200mah batteries I recall them being around $70 aud for two. The charger is awsome it automatically reads the battery type and voltage and charges really quickly. I always use LiFePo cell's  over standard lithium.

Been using lipo cordless setups for years on GPX and QED. Only way to fly.

Lightweight and very rapid vehicle recharge (10 minutes) with a balance charger. All available cheaply from Hobbyking or any RC shop.

Prefer headphones (I work mainly in winter) so use Sennheiser RS160 or TDK setup but (as Dale says) works with most speaker transmitter systems. Go lightweight cordless, never look back.

Nice Manny. I am not knocking the 4500. I loved mine & it found me lots of that kind of gold. I in fact I have two of them. A standard one & a modded one. I hung onto then knowing there were places I wouldn't be able to use the Zed & its 14" coil. I have a large range of coils for the 4500's. The modded one I only used once before getting the Zed & it found me a piece of gold in probably one of the most thrashed West Coast public fossicking areas in the country. Directly down the track from the carpark to the creek & its bedrock that every man & his dog would have swung a detector over the years.

Came across someones homemade wooden sluicebox stashed in the bushes beside the track

Down to the creek

Into the crevice

Modded 4500 & nugget finder advantage 14 x 9 coil. I was gobsmacked.

It was jammed tight deep down in a crevice. So had been there for a long time. Not just the last flood. Of which the West Coast rivers have frequently.  The Zed just opened up my old haunts all over again & now with the 10" X coil, yet again. Despite me thinking I would still use the 4500 with the smaller coils, once I got swinging the Zed & it 14" coil I didn't go back to the 4500. It got small gold at depths the 4500 didn't stand a chance of getting. I know because I had thrashed those same spots with the 4500 & all combinations of coils over the years.

I will repeat here that I am re detecting all my old haunts & finding gold missed by my earlier detectors & coils. I haven't detected "new" ground for years. I still have a lot of my old haunts to go over.

JW 🤠

It even discriminates well with iron targets using a DD .... I use mine with the 14x9 NF and on hot ground on RX 10 and stabilizer 1  on special Extra ....... it gets a #7-8 bird-shot at 6-10 inches .... and using the SteelPhase 01 man do they scream using an external speaker .......

Once you go wireless you can never go back!!!

I've been using wireless transmission and lifepo cells for years too, first on the 4500 then the 5000 my first one was from Ismael in WA it was called the 'little ripper' and jeeze was it a ripper! I bought one of his first units and he even customized it to suit my requirements. Ismael is a real gentle man too.
