Hey mate, did you use the counterweight extension for your CF shaft? Do you think it necessary/worthwhile? If so, what weight is it? Regards, Darren.

Gday cobber, yep I do, it helps the balance IMHO.

Mine weighs 125grams - but it may depend upon how far behind the arm rest you put it

I just did 3 hours up to waist deep  in the ocean todays low tide with the 15" and found it manageable

In the park the 15" is a dream to use.

Happy swingin Darwoody ?

I'm reading that it's necessary to adjust the recovery speed on the EQ800 when using the 15" coil, else targets are not coming in as clear as they do with the 11" coil.  What's the rule of thumb on adjusting the recovery speed?

It is not necessary... it is an adjustment that trades a more solid hit on a target for trash separation capability. In open ground slower recovery speed will make a deep target sound more solid, but at the cost of poorer separation in dense targets. It is a trade off. The rule of thumb is to use slower recovery speeds where targets are sparse, and faster recovery speeds where targets are dense. Faster recovery speeds are generally beneficial in higher mineral / highly variable ground.

In other words, just because you swap a coil there is nothing about recovery speed that works any different than it did before. Adjust to suit the situation. For max depth slower swing speeds combined with lower recovery speeds is generally going to be the answer but as target density increases so does the need for a faster recovery speed.

For what it is worth I ran recovery speed of 5 the whole time I used the 15" x 12" coil in the U.K.

It's not necessarily, for example, on sensitivity 20, on the contrary 15X12 "coil works at me in a wide range of Recovery speed 1-7  good signal- whit ID,,and best signal - recovery speed 4- better... than 11" standard coil  at Sensitivity 21  -It works well on the recovery speed range 1 -... 4   whitID,max5 .. to recovery6,7,8 is weak signal - at very deep targets - coins 50eurocent to 37-38 cm= 15".. in the ground .. picture-rate mineralization ground..in Test...

Thanks Steve, appreciate the insight.  I think I'll pick one of these up, I like that it's light and even though a lot of the sites we enjoy hunting would benefit from a 6x10" closed elliptical, we have a few other sites that would benefit from a bit of extra depth and ground coverage.

I bought the same shaft setup for my 800 and I am very happy with it.  The 15" coil is a beauty and cuts down the swinging time at parks. I also bought another carbon shaft, along with a spare Equinox lower shaft and fitted my Gold Monster to them.  Works a treat and I can now collapse the whole thing for transporting.
