Hi PASTASHELL, welcome to the forum!

I have only used Gold Mode to hunt gold nuggets. I have heard that people were using it for just about everything else also, which is a good sign. No mode should be tied to a name. Each is simply a set of operating parameters useful in some places and not as much in others.

Anyway, I am hoping someone will chime in here who has used Gold Mode for something other than nugget detecting. Other than that, what question do you have specifically about using Gold Mode? If it is settings to start with, use the defaults, and adjust from there.

Little gold nuggets I found in California and Nevada using Equinox Gold Mode. More nugget detecting tips

I have used gold mode for relic and coin hunting,

Don’t have 15” coil though.  Seems recovery can be lowered (slowed down) a bit using bigger coil vs stock.  I run stock at 0 iron bias, speeds 5 and 6 depending on how littered with with ferrous.

Using gold mode vs other detect modes.  Gold modes you are listening for shape of signal, usiing other detect mode other than  gold modes  a user is listening for sound of signal.  Best way I can explain distinction.

When in areas where targets  are sparse, gold modes best choice.  Coil sweep/coil position more forgiving vs other detect modes hence gets a person to stop and investigate signals odds wise.  Depth too is an advantage for using gold mode.  I primarily run gold 1 mode.

I know most hunters might argue the point, but I've always wanted a true, motion all metal mode like gold 1 and gold 2 with one small  addition, 2 tone option, one for iron and the other for non-ferrous.  Even better would be an adjustable tone break.

Years ago I hunted with the Fisher F75, in motion all metal mode and found a lot of super deep targets that the other discrimination modes could not pick up.

It is gold mode i have been using. I am also in the uk. Recovery speed at 5. Tracking off. Iron bias is 1. I think my threshold is at 3. I dig everything above an id of 2. These settings were recommended to me and seem to work very well.

Yes sir!! I truly wish they would have made those an option for the Gold modes! Especially a tone option for it.  I've never liked VCO audio.

That was one of the reasons I originally sold the 800 and kept the 600. I wasn't going to use the Gold modes.  Now that the price has settled down on them and they are available anywhere, I think I will pick up an 800 again just for the customized audio part.

I would have liked the VCO pitch audio as an option for the modes other than gold mode with iron volume for discriminated targets underneath (this is how Deus works and it is an effective way to unmask non ferrous in the presence of ferrous) as a well as "normal" tone ID as an option for gold mode.

Yes Chase, the function I miss the most on the 800 is a lack of vco pitch in other modes besides gold.

Is there anyone that for any reason still prefers the older version 1.5.0 software over the newer 1.7.5? If so, why? Just curious.

Some folks here may find this interesting, I certainly did!
Testing my equinox 800 in my home test garden today, ground not high on mineralisation, but full of iron, old rusty nails etc.
Had a silver UK sixpence 1930's buried only about 4/5 inches deep iron nails below and all around. (Difficult target)
Imagine a clock face, I'm sweeping from 12 o'clock to 6 o'clock , good 2 way tone, no problem, now sweeping from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock, 1 way signal, one tone only sweeping from left to right (from 3 o'clock back to 9 o'clock)
Here's the interesting discovery reference ground balance, on my test garden there's so much iron getting a true GB is impossible, when I do try to auto GB it jumps up to the high 90's! However most of my permissions here in the UK read a GB in the mid 40's to the mid 50's so generally that's where I leave my GB most of the time.
Ok GB set at 50, one way target from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock, sweeping from 3 back to 9 gives me a one way tone.
Increasing the GB to 90 gave the opposite, still a one way tone, but in reverse ,now sweeping from 9 back to 3,, still a good 2 way tone sweeping from 12 to 6!
Lowering the GB to 75, amazing, perfect 2 way tone, 3 to 9,, and 9 to 3.
Just thought I would share this as I found the results very interesting!
(GB set at 0 gave no tone whatsoever from 3 o'clock to 9 o'clock)
Program used field 2 , 50 tones, multi, discrimination -9/+1, iron bias 1, stock 11" coil, sensitivity (tried 17/21 not a great deal of difference)
      Regards Dave. H

I have recently been using my Equinox 800 for saltwater hunting.  The obvious settings, Beach 2,  Iron off.  Since I am forced to a slower swing, I drop recovery speed to about 2-3 (4-5 on beach).
I am forced to drop the sensitivity to 15 or below.   I have noticed the waves will cause signals and dips in the sand too.   This has become frustrating as I use a CTX-3030 and do not get nearly the false signals.   Any suggestions to try?

      Hi Folks
I have been busy making quite a few finds recently. After more than a year with the Equinox, it continues to impress me with it's capabilities.
Some of my recent finds include some early 1630's Kettle Points and Turtle Effigy, Spanish Silver, KG's and more. I even have had it scuba diving. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with the volume with the Grey Ghost headphones. I have a new pair of Tony Eisenhower headphones ready to try out with the hopes that the volume is better. We shall see.
      HH Everyone...
