I took my brother-in-law out detecting for his first time ever today. I had him set up with a Teknetics G2 with the ultimate coil. (That coil is a beast. It literally found a staple that he was looking for for a long time with the pinpointer.) Anyway, he found only a few coins

However, he did have a unique find for a soccer field in FL. I am attaching some pics hoping someone can shed some light on the find. It looked like, from a quick glance, that there was a goldish color covering a base metal. On my Equinox, it was a solid 17. It seems strange that someone would reproduce a coin that is so heavily worn.

Here are some pics he sent me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It kind of has the look of old lead which makes me think it is a pewter coin, (replica) however I'm holding out hope for you that it is some type of silver coin. I'm not familiar with pirate coins or with how silver looks in your area after being buried for a while. In my area both land and water, I usually see various degrees of sulfide on the coin. (Dark toning)

All we have is the picture and the TID to go by. El Nino is doing good at the research, TID of 17 is hard to say, would have to see how big it is. I suppose a small pice of silver could hit at 17, perhaps a big pewter coin hits 17 TID as well.

Good luck, hope it's real.

If it's REALLY coin: 2 Escudos-size is 23mm-6-7 gram-gold..., in case it's a coin 4 Escudos- size is 29mm -13.8grams gold ...Under 17ID it should be a 23mm coin .....

But how writes Alluminati...., if it is an alloy - of lead, tin,... and under Id 17-18 you can find even the larger coin size ..

99% odds it's a fake. Looks to be cast, not struck. The goldish tint is probably what's left of the "gold" plating. Most likely some kid got it at a souvenir shop and lost it playing soccer.

I have to agree on the Ultimate coil on the G2/GBP, a great combination.

I hope it's real, it looks great either way and a good find. I bet your brother in law is hooked now 🙂

I don't like to call our hobby metal detecting, we aren't looking for metal, I call it treasure detecting, and that looks to be some nice treasure.

... I agree.... The old Spanish coins are precisely work... silver -Aragonensis - Alfonzo I.  1104 -1134 ...year..det.Rutus Argo 6.6khz - ID 44.....  The Equinox would be 13 ID..

In FNQ Australia, there are a number of properties you can go on & detect for gold. Most places are pay to detect & are well set up for camping with designated areas set aside for metal detecting, if you are fortunate enough to have access to private leases & cattle stations with gold bearing country even better again. Up until today, I had access to one of these private cattle stations to prospect on. Unfortunately I no longer have access, this is due to the fact there are still people doing the wrong thing while on these properties. The rubbish left behind at camp sites and open detector holes for cattle to break legs in is out of control. On top of that you got fence jumpers & poachers running a muck too. This is causing huge issues for for graziers forcing them to close the gates to everyone & in most cases getting access now, is nearly impossible.
I can't express in words how disappointing this is for us guys & girls who are doing the right thing, only to be told you can't detect at your favourite spot anymore because of w#%kers ruining it for everyone. So the quest for a new spot starts again....  Take only gold and memories & leave only foot prints. So we will all have somewhere to look for gold in the future!

Hello went back to the spot of my latest trench and decided to dig one longer,i left markers last week which were still there on thursday but were gone on Saturday ...........so i left some this time heavy enough that u need a bit of strength to move those rock.......I was equipped with the 9"HF 1 spade ,1 pickaxe and 1 Hodan pick.Weather was ok not too hot.
The pickaxe really helped to loosen the compacted gravel, and i think with a bit of practice i will getter better at it.I detected the spoil once out ,and it was very easy with the deus to switch
      on and off.

      So i found:
      -1 Rose farthing
      -1 Nuremberg token
-1 beautiful button from the 4th regiment of the East  India Company
      -1 roman coin
-1 strap of some sort probably medieval.

I did found anything while refilling the trench(which is good) and i more than happy with the result as i still got 100s of trench to do on that spot but also i am the only one allowed as most of the license holders are scrapping only🍌.I also found a pretty long clay pipe

      Enjoy the work out
