...is that you can chest or hip mount the control box using the included pouch. The BeachHunter TDI is already the lightest weight waterproof ground balancing pulse induction (GBPI) detector on the market at 5.2 lbs. It is also the only GBPI model that comes ready to hip or chest mount. If you chest or hip mount the control box all you are swinging is the rod and coil at about 2 lbs. Nice!

Note that the coil on the BeachHunter TDI is hardwired to the control box. Use care not to bend and stress the connection point to the control box as it could lead to premature failure of the coil cable.

Not to take anything away from the TDI Beach Hunter's versatility, but I wonder why the TDI/SL doesn't have the same option, since (electronically) it's the same detector.  Does it have to do with balance?  With its simpler enclosure (not waterproof) it's already only 3.5 lb (and less with smaller coils).  Water detectors have the advantage of coil buoyancy.  Without a control box would the TDI/SL become way too toe heavy?  But then were the original Pulse Scan TDI and TDI Pro ("big box TDI's" and subsequently heavier) toe heavy when the control box was chest/hip mounted?

The TDI SL for me anyway is a well balanced 3.5 lbs that is extremely comfortable to swing. There was just not perceived need for a hip mount option. The older TDI big box units and now BeachHunter are simply heavier units to the point where a hip mount option was considered desirable. That, and the TDI SL is just using one of White’s off the shelf housings used in prior models.

Once you get down to about two pounds or less in the arm the whole nose heavy thing is truly not a big deal. Every Deus sold is nose heavy yet everyone raves about the ergonomics. No different once you get that weight off the arm here... it feels so much lighter you really don’t notice the nose heavy aspect.
