No Gold In California 2

Recommended Posts

It's a shame you didn't get any of the good stuff but it's still fun trying!

I got nothing my last attempt either, but the two before that I did so two out of three ain't bad 🙂

I do like the look of the area you're detecting, it looks hard to get lost there as you can see for miles so you'd see your car parked up somewhere, I find it very easy to get lost here wandering around in the mountains, cross over to another area and look back and not remember where you came from

You're going to make Julie really worried about there being no Gold in California now, a man with a GPZ, GPX 5000 and SDC2300 didn't find any gold!

I only seem to find the easy stuff.  I think others find gold I miss.  😀

It's still out there!

Yes.....I can vouch for Simons uncanny ability, I don't know how he does it, to be totally lost by just blinking & turning in a circle & reopening his eyes.

That's because he hadn't turned them on & was trying some new brail coils.  Great looking country Mitchel.👍 Thanks for the pics.

He should’ve asked me - I was up at the Placer Pete claim the weekend before. 😉

Nope - no gold there either!

Julie,  What local gold hunting clubs do you belong to?  I lived in San Bernardino most of my life and eventually found gold out near 29 Palms.  My local S.B. club did not have claims suitable for nugget detecting.   GaryC/OregonCoast

Hi @GaryC/Oregon Coast! I haven’t joined any yet but plan to hit up the Route 66 guys sometime soon. I’ve just been going onto the GPAA claims so far. And they’re getting access to a bunch of the AMRA claims as well.

Where did you find a list of the AMRA claims?

If you check out High Desert Gold Diggers or First Class Minors they have detectable claims out in the Dale Mine District.  I have seen many, many, many nuggets come from that area in the last fifteen years.  Took me three years to find one and it was out in the Dale.  Don't give up, you have to be patient, persistent and persevere.  GaryC/Oregon Coast

My first nugget (.3 g or something) was found on the BlackJack claim out there.  It has since been reduced in size and the dry washers have hit it hard in the last 7 years since then.  I found a specimen out there with the 800 last year on open ground.  It is hard to figure out the claim status out there now because there are a lot of lode claims that are only paper messing up the system.  There is still gold on the surface and other gold too.

So I’ve taken my Equinox 800 out a few times but not for long each time and to different claims each time - so I’m telling you, I’m an expert, and you can believe me when I say there’s no gold in California. Hey, I’ve even tried gold panning for a few minutes - nope, no gold.
So at the Fresno gold show, I played along with the conspiracy and went to Kevin Hoagland’s talk about metal detecting for gold - you know, in states where there IS gold. And he said to dig the targets that don’t even show up as numbers on my detector’s screen. Well, that can’t be right, because otherwise why would they give me a screen with numbers? But anyway, I decided that IF he was right, maybe I could at least find some small pieces of lead or something with the same technique. So I set out to find the tiniest piece of birdshot I could find. I mean, I WOULD have looked for gold but we all know that’s a crock.
SUCCESS!!! That Kevin guy might know a thing or two about metal detecting for lead, if only he’d stop pretending he’s talking about gold. Check out my haul from a few hours in the claims at Cajon Pass (note this is only the small stuff - I was already an expert in finding shell casings from an hour on Lytle Creek):

I spent a couple of hours in the local park today, using the Nox 800 with the 6" coil, and found my first gold. The target ended up being 7 gram gold teeth 😀 and TID was 10.
I also found a bunch of change. All of these quarters were in the same hole.
I feel like I am starting to get the hang of this.
It has been pretty fun so far!
