Skate- dunno if you remember me but I was helping out Andy as an assistant instructor during that XP bootcamp, glad you found it worth it.

Haha I figured that was you! I had a great time. Definitely a bucket lister to get to go detecting in Gettysburg with you and Andy. Our world keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Hello Andy! I just received your book a few days ago and it could not have come at a better time. The Equinox 800 is my first detector and the book arrived as I logged my hundredth hour of headphone time. I will simply say that it has connected enough dots to drastically raise my finds, confidence and enjoyment of my new hobby. Like a series of switches making up solid connections, each function, "tip", and application had a logical context laid out simply. It was great to get the situational perspectives of familiar DP friends and other detectorists from various locales. Each person you chose to include is a teacher and brings much breth to your comprehensive practical work. BTW, the Ground Balance discussion you started as a topic elsewhere on this forum is a perfect example of applying a quick test in the field - before digging a located target - to determine what works best for your situation. A cornerstone philosophy that you espouse throughout your book. Your clear description of every function's purpose enables one to work out the "best" settings in real time. Your book has helped me turn my first corner and I want you to know how thankful I am! I don't have your experience, nor do I have the vast experiences of others on this forum - all of which I appreciate; but this book makes the experience I do have count so much more. Keep up your great work. I wish you well.

I used to go swinging in a Park with my other detectors not doing so well, getting the occasional coin, I didn't really know what I was doing.  I then invested in an Equinox.... my skill levels didn't improve but my finds sure did.  I found my first gold ring shortly after, then a few more rings and over a hundred coins in the first week of seriously using it for that style of hunting.   It turned me from a complete amateur to someone walking along swinging with confidence.  I even felt worthy of wearing Minelab clothing and look like a real detectorist ?

Minelab were kind enough to send me this gear. Tell me I don't look like a Detectorist in it.

Which one is you?

Daniel,

I think you know that I gravitate to those that know the detectors I write about and not the ones with the flashiest YouTube videos or the most posts on some forum . . . Social Media is a great tool but when people become self-proclaimed experts and spread bad information, it is a double edged sword.  It is a shame that people pick that information up and get more frustrated than had they left well enough alone.  You will recognize the veterans that I contacted for input in the book and each is well recognized in their are(s) of expertise.

I think some just don’t want others getting interest in a good machine if they are digging in their area.   2 weeks.....I didn’t even have waterproof phones for a few months..... but it sure made me take the time needed to have a better handle on what it was doing.   I was starting the worlds largest foil ball I think ?.   Success on your book Andy

Sandi,

I know Andy (I teach detecting boot camp classes with him).  I will reach out to him and have him send you a signed book on me.  PM me with your address and I'll have one sent out.  And let me know who you want it signed to: you, your husband, Nate, or both of you.

Chase

Awesome way to be straight up and forward. In my opinion the Equinox is the best metal detector hands down and I respect your opinion and Andy's and I need to get one of Andy's books

Thank you. However I personally don't think any detector qualifies as the best hands down. Detectors are simply tools, and people have different detecting requirements. Not every tool is applicable to every task and detectors are no different. There are many detectors that for specific detecting situations are a better choice than the Equinox.

That said, I do think that at this time no one detector offers better across the board performance for a wide range of detecting needs as the Equinox. All the detectors that beat it in a specific area tend to be specialist machines, so while they may beat the Equinox in their area of expertise, they tend to fail miserably in another area where the Equinox still delivers excellent performance.

I'm not the sort of person who would be truly happy with one detector, but if I had to choose and use one only for what I do, which is everything you can do with a detector, then the Equinox would have to be my choice.
