  1. Folks- Don't be fooled by his success! It's not his natural skill, the fancy detector, his secret settings, his tenacity OR his magic ring. IT'S HIS SCRUFFY LITTLE DOG!

  3. Lots of various interesting stuff to pull out of this data, here are some. Also probably useful to note that online/forum results (probably) differ quite a bit from the field. For instance I still see quite a few 3500's out and about despite their poor showing here, and quite a few GMT's as well, but mostly by people who don't post or go online. Also of note, I've seen some survey responses that were contradictory to other responses in other threads posted before or after the survey, nothing official anyways all in good fun but come on guys... *sorry for the small text, i had to shrink everything down so the picture wasn't gigantic on the forum.

  4. We had a great club outing at Rye Patch, NV. I tell you the heat was on, fighting lite hangovers, extra full stomachs from the great foods and the open vastness of Rye Patch to find a nugget. Robin & I, finally got to meet "Doc" after years of phone conversations and many other new friends. Well enough of the mushy stuff...the hunt was fun and we all found some color. I've said it before and I will say it again! The SDC 2300 will put up a fantastic fight against his bigger brother the GPZ 7000. But my choice is the GPZ and my Wife Robin's is the SDC, the best of both worlds. I did a couple of test with both detectors. One of my tones with the GPZ is a guaranteed sound of a nugget. This was a hardly audible one but good enough to call Robin over with her SDC for a listen. Well she couldn't hear it, I had to kick the dirt down a couple of inches before she heard it and on the GPZ it was now a solid nugget tone. Now, I didn't reverse this test with the detectors. But in one tight spot, another partner pulled 5 nuggets out with his SDC and swiping it very slow with my GPZ, I could hear little nugget tones but could not get them in my hand...got tired of chasing them around. I told another fellow to hit that spot with his GoldBug 2 and he ended up with a smile on his face! Bottom line is, learn your detector they all will find what your looking for...I hunt for gold and here is our hunting parties pokes. Until the next hunt LuckyLundy

  5. So i got a little cuious abt my f3 and ability to adapt to other coils and took her apart. the coil plug in is a smaller 6 pin unit. 5 wires attach at coil adapter;blk, red, yel, blu, and green. Circuit bd tentitavly look like blk n red are tied as well as yel, blu, and grn. coil has 29 turns with a little steel/non copper wire soliered to the leading/starting end of loop. the ANTENNA as i call it, is aprox. 10" length, starts at soldier conn near coil cntr goes 6 oclock to wrap around insulated portion of coiled wire where it enters coil pltfrm. then it goes to abt 10 oclock position bout half distance between cntr and edge of coil, passes from top side of spool to bottom side of spool where it then turns right angle to upper run and terminates bout half distance from coil cntr at aprox 2 oclock bearing from cntr. the spool is styrofoam 3/4 thick w/ spool groove being 5/16 " wide or tall, and in-set abt 1/2 " it is held in place by rubber band and entire surface of spool is wrapped with heavy paper that appears to have graphite? looking coating on it. AND HERE I THOUGHT THIS STUFF WAS ROCKET ZCIENCE. LOL. Just my preliminary findings, for those curious. now i just need: info on winding coils, findd small 6 pin plug-ins, and a 3d printeer to make coil foot adapter to hold other coils. thats it for now, gotta do some home-work on it. I ll post more later. Happy hunting.

Could just put stock coil connector on other coil but woruld like to find a new one, as well as a oulet for surplus pieces if anyone does it.

  8. I'll make some graphs for fun tonight, I like data visualization. If it's done next year it'll be easy to see changes visually too, or make a little animation.

  9. Hey Steve and All, I'm completely opposite, I would take a 4500 any day over a 4800 here in the Southwest US. There are benefits of having Enhance and Sen/Smooth in heavy ironstones and basalts. I also like using the "Boost" feature on shallow bedrock to really make the small nuggets sing out twice as loud. The 4800 has been a very slow seller, reason they are bundling the Eureka Gold with it. If it's not about money and trying to re-sale a VLF bundled with your detector, I would take the Minelab GPX 4500 with extra 15x12 coil for $2699.00. Just my thoughts.

  10. Steve, no Quartz...it's the cliche stuck in the Cheverons! Strick, Robin couldn't get them in her hands either...GB2 was the only ticket for these little guys! Better hunt that high country before it gets snowed in...just drop me a line we are only a couple hours to that area. Scott, those where some awesome Rib Eyes! Hope you yanked a Chevron out of the dirt. Rick
