  1. I told myself this morning I was going out and coin hunt all day with my MX Sport.. I'd put on that little 6 X 10 DD coil and away I went. I hit just about every school on my side of town. The trouble is you can't get in the play grounds area being it's lock. I don't know what it was today but everything was coming up dimes. Some days I start finding one certain coin and little of others. For all the people out there that in my opinion the MX Sport is hard to beat detector. it's so easy to may any change in the program on the fly. You can turn it off and it will keep your new entry with out having to do more. One thing that caught me off balance was the ground balance in how much it would change just from one school to another. Like I've already said all schools on the same side of town too. I don't know if you have this trouble call fire ants. At one school they were everywhere and digging up a dime I got into them. You should have been there because I didn't know just how good I could dance. I found another dime in the middle of a fire ant bed but I didn't have the guts to dig it. Having this small DD coil has not stop me from wanting a 6 inch concentric coil. What I want in a detector may took White's a while to get it correct but they did. Best to all of you that has a MX Sport. Chuck

  2. Puffer! Thompsons 12v model does a pretty good job I could listen to a puffer all day long, set up any leaf blower unit next to me and every second shovel full will be in your fan :) get someone local to build you a wooden puffer even hand operated to start with.

  3. Went up to the Plumas National Forest yesterday. My buddy has a very cool Ford military jeep. The thing goes anywhere and we needed it to get where we went. We found 2 small hardrock mines. Both were collapsed. One must have been large enough for rail and mine carts because I found a narrow gauge rail spike. Also found some rock drills/chisels and the sledge hammer head that was used with them hidden under a ledge of a very large boulder. There was so much ferrous trash that I didn't even turn on the 7000 all day. I used my Whites GMT and just looked for large ferrous targets and small non-ferrous. Not sure what the loop is for but it looks hand forges along with what looks like a hand forged door handle? The curved parts are SQ like a sq nail and they are bent over in opposite directions. I thought is was a door handle because it has shoulders that look like they were meant to only allow it to be hammered in part way. Then the two "nails" were bent over like a door nail. "As dead as a doornail"? That's my guess. It was an awesome day, 72 degrees F and sunny, no breakdowns with the jeep and some cool finds! Any one else have a guess about the doorhandle or the "loop"?

  4. Freezer full of dead lions...sounds like some of the restaurants in China I've been to. Hmmm, Bans on hunting man eating lions, bans on dredging, releasing lions in prime prospecting areas and land closures, Chuck, if I didn't know better it would seem like we aren't welcome out in the woods and somebody was trying to make things difficult for us.

  5. Zee, I prefer the Keene 212 puffer. Not to heavy about 30 some pounds. You can usually find a good used one for around $400, new they run over $800. I like the puffers since you don't have to deal with the noise and fuel costs of the blower types ( $5.00 a gallon inc. oil vs. pennies to recharge battery). Try Craigs list for a used one. It all depends where you live. I know in AZ they are always on Craigs list or in Prospecting Stores. I would suggest watching some You Tube videos on puffers versus blowers to get a feel for the difference.. There are issues with the Keene puffers that are all fixable so if you think you might go Keene puffer let me know and I'll tell you what to look for. That being said I generally only worked in very dry soil with the puffer, the blower types can work with soil that is a little damp. Especially the Keene models that have a hot air induction system. Hope that helps a little. Not knowing your local you need to consider the rain factor and weather conditions for drywashing. I had just walked out of the mining store in AZ with my brand new puffer in January 2012 when the guy who just sold it to me said "you know you won't be able to use it here for a couple months because the ground is so wet". Duh on me! Here is a link to a friends page that could help. Lots of examples of people using different types of drywashers. http://www.billandlindaprospecting.com/index.html

  6. Two types of drywashers; forced air/vibrastatic or puffer/belows style. When it comes to forced air type, Keene, Royal and Gold Buddy are all good. If I had to choose; Keene 140S or any Royal (both made in SoCal and parts readily avail). Royals are built like tanks where as the Keene has the removable riffle tray. Bellows Type; In my opinion, the Keene #DW212v or Thompson drywashers are the best puffers on the market today for the price. The Thompson is much liter and very backpackable where the DW212v includes the hand crank and 12v motor power system complete which adds a bit more weight. Where to buy? If in SoCal......American Prospector/Treasure Seeker has a good stock of Keene drywashers. Bill Thompson makes his own drywashers so you would order directly from him (look up his web site) He and his wife are very nice people and his craftsmanship really stands out.

  7. The only statistics that I could find on how many Lions are killed under depredation permits each year. https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Mammals/Mountain-Lion/Depredation There has been a ban on hunting them since the early 70's. I was trying to find out how many were killed by hunters each year before the ban took place but could not find that data. I'd be willing to bet that it was less then what is taken now under depredation. When I was at UC Davis we had a freezer full of dead lions. We did autopsy's on all the lions killed by depredation permit. strick

  8. Nah mate, we detect it all first and it has proved that we detect pretty well. Nothing over about 0.3g yet.

  9. The Teknetics T2 is a good VLF gold detector especially in mineralized ground. I've had prospects in the desert where my GB2, GMT and even F19 would not function well because the ground was too hot, yet there was also too much metalic trash for my TDI. The T2 (at 13kHz) handled the ground quite well and its discrimination features made quick work of the trash. Effective, user friendly and good ergonomics for less than $500.00 Might be a consideration for you......Rob

  10. I rarely see much deer in those surrounding forests anymore, due to them being hunted out by people, forest fires, or maybe cats. But there are bazillions of them living around the lower elevations in town, where they are not hunted. Make sense the cats are frequenting town more often to get their food.

  12. 1515Art When it's less deer out there for lions to eat they will come into town looking for dogs and other pets we have..In Colorado this store I trade at that is in the edge of town had one kill in front of it. What happen a guy pulls up with his dog chained in the back . He goes in to shop but when he comes out this lion had kill his dog. It couldn't get the dog out because it was chained. This why you need to carry a gun with you at all times when out. You go look in the mirror and you see you but that lion see's one big T bone steak. Be safe and live long ! Chuck
