  2. I just got back from a week up in Northern Nevada prospecting. Just over half an oz of nice small rough nuggets. The biggest was just over 2 dwt. The deepest was about 6 inches but some were right on the surface. Well, hell, I can only get one picture to upload, the biggest nugget. Will try again later.

  3. TS, I was at Northlander #2 this past summer. I too found a locked gate at what I thought was the entrance, but walked up and it led only to a power substation or something. I went back down the road(away from Summit Lake) and took the first gravel road just past the creek. It backtracked a short ways and then doubled back to the creek. I think you can use this road to access the lower end of the claim. The road continued further, but was very wet and I did not go further. I thought this would lead up to the Ken & Brian claims. This road may have a gate further up, I don't know and if this was the road you were on, sorry for any confusion, you may have travelled farther than I did. I set up a little highbanker up at the first creek access, but was not very successful. Would love to hear how the K & B claims look, if you make it that far. Good luck!

  5. RKC Thanks for the video showing all that gold. I was about to pack my bag when I got to thinking they have things that will eat you. I haven't live this long by putting myself in harms way and I'm not going to start now.. Thanks again for the show and tell. Chuck

  6. Tom I thank you for the heads up on the sale at White's on coils. When I want a small coil for detecting in a high trash area I want a 5 inch but not over a 6 inch and a DD just don't fit the bill. I'll take the concentric over the DD anytime I'm coin hunting. 30% off all coils is a knock down great price for White's to offer.I will have to go take a look see to see if there is something that i can't live without. I just had a talk with Rege-PA on Detech coils. He let me know what White's has is what was contracted to make. I just don't see the need for the 7 inch DD coil at this time. I've never had the pleasure of having a Detech coil but only heard how good they are. Thanks again Tom Chuck

  7. I have actually gone through the process Chris so it can be done but there is a cost, mainly in newspaper ads. If you are lucky all you may need is proof they got a letter from you. In our case they were gone off the face of earth as far as we could tell so we had to go the newspaper route. http://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title30-section28&num=0&edition=prelim "Upon the failure of any one of several coowners to contribute his proportion of the expenditures required hereby, the coowners who have performed the labor or made the improvements may, at the expiration of the year, give such delinquent co-owner personal notice in writing or notice by publication in the newspaper published nearest the claim, for at least once a week for ninety days, and if at the expiration of ninety days after such notice in writing or by publication such delinquent should fail or refuse to contribute his proportion of the expenditure required by this section, his interest in the claim shall become the property of his co-owners who have made the required expenditures." This all has to be documented with BLM and I advise coordinating with a person at BLM that the process is being undertaken to make sure they get all the information they want (copies of ads, certified letters, etc.). Example of such an ad https://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=886&dat=19670921&id=QYNPAAAAIBAJ&sjid=wVADAAAAIBAJ&pg=3857,3250719

  9. Wow, wow, wow. I don't know how I missed this in the past but what an informative article! I suppose I would have figured this out with enough experience (and expense, as in buying enough detectors). The modern (and I guess this goes back 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 decades) detector depends so much on microprocessors and their associated software. That's a good thing in one way because of its expanse of potential settings and capabilities, but sometimes a bad thing because the true strengths and (especially) weaknesses of these methods tend to be hidden from the user, unlike in the (admittedly ideal = unrealistic) analog days. Apparently the 'best' detectors give us both, and leave it up to us to decide which and when to use. But one thing is true about all detectors since before most of us were born: the more you understand about your detector, whether by reading or talking to experts, or especially learning by your own experience, the more success you will have. Thanks, Steve. I learned some more by reading and now can't wait to experience it.

  10. These were all found with various Minelabs, 3500 and 2300 and a Whites GMT. I used the TDI on this trip but didn't find any with it. Several were found in the desert pavement on the last day and could have been found with the TDI, they were that shallow. The ground was heavily mineralized and the GMT had problems with it so went back to the pulse machine. Just happened to have the 2300 with me in the back pack.

  12. Alaska Mining Claims Mapper http://akmining.info/ Mostly forest service with state land transfers. Red claims federal, blue are state. Northlander #2 is the state claim MC712966. Full case abstract at http://dnr.alaska.gov/projects/las/#filenumber/712966/searchtype/casefile/filetype/ADL/reporttype/abstract/landflag/y with mailing address of claim owner. Or look up his phone number. Or ask Brian Berkhahn at Alaska Mining & Diving if he knows how to contact him. The Forest Service and or State may also have information on access. Since this is a GPAA listed claim you really should get in contact with the local GPAA chapter http://www.alaskagolddiggers.org/

  13. That's good news. I've been patiently waiting until a release date is announced, sounds like it could be getting closer to official release.

  14. Chuck, I'll send the cable out this week, free of charge. You'll want the Eclipse 5.3 from the MXT/V3i line. Might be good to look on FleaBay or find a used one.
