  2. Im still a newbie to this hobby but I try to take in as much knowledge as as I can from all of the more experienced prospectors on this board. I've learned a lot in the last 3 years from some of you fellas and to that I am greatful. That being said I stumbeled or should I say my wife stumbled upon a new method of unearthing gold the other day. She was taking a lunch time walk around the lake where she works and noticed a duck pecking at something shiny near the waters edge. The curious bird eventually tired of playing with or trying to eat the shiny object so Lisa went down to investigate and found a nice gold chain and pendant. It tests 10k with acid. Included is a photo of the pendant and a short video that demonstrates what one might "look for" when employing this new technique of finding gold. I realize that the video is of geese but the same method applies to ducks. Some of the members of this board are snowed in right now and I hope you find this post useful. You might want to turn some music on when watching the video..... strick

  4. The end of our month long trip to Australia is approaching. It is starting to sink in that the massive Australian nugget I had dreamt of finding was going to continue to be a dream. The flies were out in force now but we persevered trying new locations hoping to get lucky. Mon Sep 19 - Two nuggets, 0.8 gram Tue Sep 20 - Move to new location, no gold Wed Sep 21 - 3.6 grams, found a sunbaker

  5. I can't stand a thief!! I had a 1st cousin that was always into mischief. He had been in and out of jail so many times he basically had his own cell. In the summer of 2016, he and one of his thug friends broke into a house that they thought was ripe for the picking. Instead, of stuff they could steal, they found an armed homeowner with a shotgun. Boom! That ended his reign of theft. Undertaker couldn't fix him enough to have an open casket. He got what he deserved IMO. I may take some flak for saying it, but if more people would put thieves in the ground, then the ones left living might consider a career change since the stakes are so risky. Because as in the case of my cousin, just sitting in a jail cell for a while for stealing, doesn't do any good.

  8. The largest gem-quality diamond ever found in North America is on display at the Smithsonian for three months in its rough, uncut state. “It's a really unusual chance for people to see this rare diamond,” says Jeffrey Post, curator of the National Gem and Mineral Collection at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. “It isn't something that happens very often. This may be the only chance in your life to see such a thing.” Full article here

  9. My buddy Merton was down for a few days and we went hunting. From past experience he tends to get a little grouchy at the parks and beaches so I played it safe and we went relic hunting. We both did well scoring barber dimes and various other trinkets. We had fun when the weather cooperated using our XP Deuces in fast mode. Looking forward to our next hunt..... so I can kick your ass again buddy! Also included in the photos is a nice vintage sterling silver cross that I found at a park a week or so ago. HH strick

  11. Dag Nabbit...JW pleeeeeze don`t encourage the lad, KL gets a video what ya call it, I`m trading be bloody Z for them funny sticks they chase white balls with. Even across the pond from us he`d be a menace on lens............... I have a suspicion the 19" is a superior coil to the 14", maybe windings aligned differently or something but we`ll know when ML makes us that smaller coil. Whatever tis a beauty.

  12. Dag Nabbit! (dag nabbit means roughly the same as "crickey" in Australian") We have another video of tweaking a detector over a known and likely gold target but nothing on what the settings where while searching for the target. The target response in difficult was definitely enough to warrant stopping and digging but would operating in normal in that location be noisy enough to hid the minuscule whispers that are so important when using the 7000? I wish I had the ability to make detecting videos to torment you folks with.

  15. Have to follow those geese around!! Before it was stolen, we had a gold display in our courthouse that showed some gold recovered from a chicken's gizzard.

  16. omg Paul, I am so sorry and Pissed to hear about that. this county and the losers in it get worse all the time. I don't have a gpz, but if you get back in my area you can borrow my gpx 5000, anytime. if you still have my Pick, you have my permission to whack the bad guys up side the head if you find them. hit them a few times for me too. I hope they catch those thieves.

  17. Hi Rick, thanks, it's petrol and the fuel tank is not plumed in...they give you a syphen that has a foot valve it flows directly into the jeep main fuel tank. Gets me an extra 12 for 30 gallons total. thanks Swegin, I was a bit worried before getting a jeep after hearing about some of the things Everyone says about driving them long distance, but the 6 hour drive to Rye Patch was easy. in fact I enjoyed driving it, best part is I've always been a leadfoot and now I enjoy going the speed limit. My driving needs a certain amount of adrenaline to keep me happy and the twitchy characistic's of the jeep is perfect.

  18. Hit it with detector and then spied it. First it snowed on me, then turned to rain. By the time I left, the wind had dried me out! Delnorter, South facing slopes are clear.

  19. Probably too hot for the area for general hunting. It might make a found nugget pop better once found, but also light up ground noise and hot rocks when searching for unfound nuggets.

  22. Typical of what seems to happen on Aussie forums the two linked threads above have been locked over a misunderstanding. Hopefully it will get cleared up but if the links do not work that's why. In the meantime, here are some new videos on how to set up the QED:

  23. My take was way down too thanks to our retail store, renewed focus this year still leaves me with not as many hours for detecting as I would like. But when I do get out I treasure it all the more. JP

  24. That is some beautiful stone coming out. South America is a treasure trove and those who are mining it are true explorers :) For me though its not a place I'd take a crack at~ I prefer the desert ;) Just to green there for me. Hahh!

  26. There were a couple instances where we encountered gold in conglomerate - gravel that has turned to solid rock. On September 16 we visited one location where all the loose soil had been scraped off down to a layer of gravel over bedrock that has been cemented into a cap rock of very solid conglomerate. The gold bearing gravel probably had water with silica circulating through it in the past, eventually turning it into solid rock with gold nuggets trapped inside. The area had been hunted a lot in the past but careful hunting with the GPX 5000 and large coils would turn up faint signals. These in turn were laboriously chipped out. We got gold - I found four grams - and although it was interesting as far as being different it is not the most fun way to find gold. The only saving grace is you can be certain any decent signal will be gold as there is no trash in solid rock. Here I am detecting the cap rock.
