This morning i went to one of the beaches i go to with my Explorer XS. The weather was windy and wet last night and i thought "hoped" it would shift a bit of the beach off . But i was mostly unlucky .But i found an area of 200 ft by around 70 ft that was scuffed a bit so i got on with the job of hoovering up the coinage . I hoped for a Gold but no luck there , i did find an old Silver ring . I left after around 2 hours with the ring , £23.78 p in spendable coinage , 2 Euro's and for the Americans seeing this a US 5 Cent of 1993 . I might go again on Friday if the beach has a good pounding by the weather , but i doubt it will be .

We use our 5000 with the 14" Nugget Finder mono coil 90% of the time on the beach . Always Salt Gold and if EMI is uncontrollable it is then I go to a DD . I could not dig the deep holes and detect as it would be way too hard . Thankfully my hubby does the long handled shovelling . A fair bit of the time depending on the depth of the target even the mono coil does make different noises on different targets . It picks up chains with ease. The soft sweet noises are usually a gold item . We detect the beach Atleast fortnightly and quite often weekly. Most of our better targets are 1/3 of the way up the beach from the low tide .

I doubt they will print it...a cd is more likely...and it moves the cost of printing to the buyer...of course, all you modern guys will just put it on your phone. I still like paper...for my self fred

I am 83 and had both knees replaced. One at 75 and the other at 78. Was driving at 7 days for each and the only thing I can recommend is do not put it off because the sooner you do it the better you will feel. I still climb mountains and have no problems with my knees. I use an Infinium, GMT and pinpointer with no detecting problems. You must use knee pads to do any nealing, that is the only problem I have. The sooner you get rid of that pain and misery the better off you will be.

Well, I'm the 1st detectorist in the USA to receive a steelPhase audio enhancement system. Hopefully the weather holds enough to give it a whirl here soon. I'm not here to knock any other similar products out there. I'm just trying to make use of a new product and technology to help give me a improvement in beaten up flogged patches. Just got word from a very large dealer that Equinox pre-orders are so large the very earliest a new Equinox order might be filled would be early spring. I had to ask exactly what that meant and the answer was "if you ordered today, it would be after all pre-orders are filled before you could possibly receive an Equinox". Wouldn't it be interesting to know how many machines, the pre-order is for? Now that doesn't upset me, in any way, I'm actually very pleased Minelab has developed a machine that will bring serious competition into my hobby. It might even spark new developments. Go Minelab..................

Bought a few fishing reels a month before my summer holiday,... they arrived just in time for me to spool some line on in oktober and manage a few practise casts. By then I was studying every evening for my boating license. It goes how it goes. My dealer,... starting to sound like a junkie needing a fix, tells me I’m in his first shipment. But given my luck it will show up when the heavens are pouring down with rain, sleat and snow. Throw in a little frost for good measure why don’t you. Anyway got the boating license,... time to figure out how to get the boat :-) Pretty amazing this new Minelab has got the detecting community behaving like hardcore @pple Kids waiting inline for their next tech fix.

Obviously the PRICE...... going from the CTX ...... to this machine that offers a lot didnt hurt sales. So i wouldnt bet on any deals for some time. BUT....... id be surprised if you dont see some on Ebay at a crazy price initially. Im on the list...... but still interested to see how soon they use the tech to develop a platform. You comment did make me think....... if you order today. So...... you believe anyone ordering now isnt consider pre-ordered and that number is already fixed? May be a lot of disappointed folks...... wonder if ML expected this kind of frenzy? I think most are impressed with what they have heard ...... so i dont see them dropping like flies on their order. I believe most are going to get what they paid for and others will order once more reviews are out. If this machine also reduces repairs....... winner winner. Dew

I have recently found the Land Matters site and installed it on Google Earth. It is easy to use and the sliding dimming bar makes it even better. The only drawback is to find out the actual location of a claim is to get a plat from the county where it was recorded. It does list that when you do a search.

It's possible that a significant percentage of the pre-orders made without deposits won't turn into actual sales. People wanting a single machine could have placed pre-orders with multiple dealers, as a strategy for getting the quickest delivery, and even some people who only placed a single order, without trying to game the system, may back out for some reason or other.

I'll take a best guess Cabo. Based on the Gold Monster saga when a release date was provided and when it was actually available - I wouldn't put money on the Eq being ready. I hope it is but might not be. Physical production of units is the housing, electronics, etc, etc. The software uploaded into that - the final version may not yet be available. All the physical units can be made and the software uploaded into each individual unit as it is boxed and shipped. I would think this won't be the case but you never know. The manual. The gold monster 'manual' was almost a single A4 page that was in the box with the machine. I expect the Eq manual to be a little more complex but it may just come with a basic start-up guide like they all do and for further information "Please download the e-manual from Minelab.com or request a copy from your dealer when you order". It is quite possible that the e-manual simply isn't set in stone if the final software version isn't set in stone. And until that final software version is set and the manual is uploaded then Steve, JP, Derek and whoever else has held one are just a little hamstrung on what they can say. But...this is only me guessing

I'm having a hard time understanding why you think an owners manual can be made available when things still haven't been finalized. Its no secret, its just plain fact, you can't deliver an owners manual until everything else is finished. Just like you can't really live in a house properly until the kitchen is finished, field testers are basically people who have to roll out a mattress on the floor and have bucket baths. JP

I posted this information for people who might be following this thread and have a V3i and didn't realize their was a MXT program available. Sorry for not being more clear on my part.

Thanks for sharing your experience Chris. I've pretty much given up on trying to use their system. Unlike other users I have a choice but from the complaints and questions I get some users have found the NEW LR2000 to be unworkable. The LR2000 itself isn't a kludge. It's actually quite fast and efficient. I keep a mirrored copy of the entire current and past database on my work computer and speed is definitely not a problem. The kludge comes with the implementation of the interface (all those drop down menus). The contractors for the NEW LR2000 interface decided your local computer should do the computing work rather than their servers. This is done with javascript libraries that you download to your computer every time you load a page on the LR2000 website. Javascript actually works pretty good for this type of searching if it's kept to a minimum. At Land Matters all our maps etc. run from one very small javascript library. At the BLM LR2000 they are using dozens of these libraries for every function. On the Serial Register search page alone I counted 138 javascript libraries to download and run on your computer every time you load a page or do a search. All that javascript code runs sequentially and ends up looking like the three stooges on vacation when it's running. The three stooges is not a good computing model. I'm working on LR2000 search pages for the Land Matters website. I've been testing these and you should get results directly from the LR2000 in less than 4 seconds and there is no code to cause a slowdown when you run more than a few searches. Unlike all the other mining claim websites and services Land Matters does live searches for you of the LR2000, General Land Office and State databases so the information returned is never stale. The Serial Register Page, Mineral Patent and Master Title Plats you can download through Land Matters are exactly the same documents you would get if you went directly through the LR2000 or GLO. I'll put a post up here when the new search function is ready to use on Land Matters. In the meantime you can get those same current items from the maps with a couple of clicks.

This might help answer how well it responds to small targets, although it will not answer your other questions, but, it's a start. The first target was found at 5" which is very impressive and I'm guessing in most mineralized soil to boot.

Found this a few years back. I had been working some old tailing piles during the morning. Around noon I sat down for some coffee along the upper ditch dug for the workings. I got up to do a little more detecting after noticing a moss covered rock ring next to my sitting spot. The mining site was In the Southern Mother Lode Country of the Sierra Nevada. It is an 1854 Seated Liberty Dime without a mint stamp. Turned out I sat right on it; wasn't more than four inches deep. You figure that old fire pit had been used to boil coffee in the past?

At just under three pounds most people will have no issues swinging this detector all day, day after day. However, any detector with no weight under the armrest will be at least a little nose heavy. The Equinox is very much like a Gold Bug Pro or G2 with 7" x 11" DD coil in that regard. The Deus with 11" coil because it is a little lighter is actually more nose heavy. Weight and balance gets tricky. If you go as light as possible a detector will usually be nose heavy to some degree. This can be offset with weight under the elbow, but then the total weight goes up. Fisher for instance made the F75 a little heavier at 3.5 lbs in order to better balance the detector by putting the battery pod under the armrest. Minelab cheated and gives you the ability to have your cake and eat it too. The Equinox is designed first and foremost to be light in weight. However, slots were added to the footrest to make it easy to strap in external batteries, counterweights, or both combined. I may experiment with this myself with the larger 15" x 12" coil when it is available but with the stock 11" coil there really is no need for me at least. In fact, I often am pushing down on the coil when park hunting to flatten the grass and get the coil closer to the ground. I will do some counterweight experiments and report back in the next few days.
