  1. My son and I both own the Equinox 800 and used them on a unique opportunity to hunt a very old place in New England area. In one day of hunting we found 5 large cents with the oldest being 1803, another 1829 and the rest had no date. We also found 2 large flat buttons and one flat cuff button. In my 30 years of metal detecting this was one of the best days of hunting I had. The best part of the day of hunting was sharing the day with my son who found 3 of the large cents. We both love of Equinox 800 detectors. On a side note we went beach hunting the next day and both came up with a silver ring

  2. I hadn't seen an overview type video on the Gold Kruzer, at least not in English, so decided to do one. It's just a bit of a run through of the machine and a run across some ground and a few targets. Hopefully of interest to anyone wanting to know a little more about it.

  3. This was my first beach hunt in a few days because I had been out in the Rye Patch area over the weekend. While I was gone I understand that it had rained and some wave alerts had been sent to my email. Our area beaches get hit hard by detectorists but I know them pretty well and followed my intuition when I got there. We don't have a negative tide right now and there is a Santa Ana wind blowing so the new waves are very small. On my way 'out' I hunted near the waterline. There was very little to find. I walked about a mile or so with very few targets. There was a bit of a trough at the bottom of the hill (beach slope) but nothing seemed to be holding. I was thinking about leaving and I worked back in the direction from where I had come. Then I got a clue. The clue was the junk wire pack. It was completely buried in the wet sand and had a thin plastic bag around it. It certainly is an unusual beach find for me. This pack was at the bottom of the hill and just above it for about 6 feet or so was hard sand and just above that was about 10 yards of 'past wave' deposited sand. You need some energy to move targets and you need the right conditions for those targets to be 'grouped' and deposited. Some beaches will stay this way for a few days and some beaches will only keep targets for a few hours. I look for these pockets. I liken it to a crab crawl on the Deadliest Catch. Anyway, I went up into this area and found a hoop earring among the bobby pins, pennies and a few other coins. I was using the Nox 11 on all metal and I was digging EVERYTHING. Sometimes I skip pennies and bobby pin sounds but not last night. Then I was surprised by one of the silver hoop earrings and its mate was just about 5 feet away. Then came a copper hoop, and then another and all of them within 10 feet. They're all water tarnished. Then I got what I thought was a ring ... earring it turns out but then a stainless steel bracelet. Then another earring (GOLD) and finally a couple of silver rings (.925). I worked the patch with a grid pattern and it kept giving. I had had enough after 4 hours. A 'bad' beach had turned into the most hoops (10) I've ever found. I've been on beaches where I've found 5 chains in a session but they are as rare as this beach. You never know. Follow your clues. Mitchel

  4. I went out this morning for a few hours. There was a few inches of snow on the ground this morning, though not particularly windy. It wasn't long until I happened upon this gold earring. I'm pretty sure it's real gold but a CZ type stone. If it turns out to be real it puts me into a double digit gold count which is cool because I've pretty much just been a weekend warrior this year. I finally put a couple sets of rare earth magnets in my scoop. They didn't really do anything today one way or the other, the thought was when I get into an area that has some small ferrous items, or bobby pins, the magnets would help recover some of it. In reality with this new style of detecting, I'm either not in the thick iron or when I am, I can handle it a lot better. The bobby pins I dug today didn't seem to stick to the magnets lol. I guess I didn't think of that. As mentioned earlier, I don't really get any iron "falsing" in Gold2. This little earring from today flickered a -1 a few quick times but the rest was a positive 1, so I knew it was a good target, just like the 3mm piece of aluminum I dug right after which was considerably smaller. With the exception of maybe the odd deep beer cap, all other ferrous items give a pretty good indication by the amount of negative numbers they give, no more of that "chirp" that makes you dig it anyway lol. Again, keep the screen wide open (Horseshoe button) because the numbers behave differently in all-metal, allowing you to get a good sample directly over the target, (A good strong negative number) rather then trying to "X" out a false beside it. Still loving the Kevlar straight shaft. The added visibility in the water while not necessary is a welcome comfort. I made an end cap for it, with a drain hole as well to finish it off.

  6. I get that Dave - that’s why I posted the information for you. My comment about it not being new for Minelab was simply because that is a fact, not a slam on anyone. I am sorry you had a bad experience. I agree Minelab could communicate many things better. i have more information on the subject I will post this week but I just got home from some very long travels and need to get rested up and back in the groove.

  7. I have done the reset and what seemed to me to be a fairly chattery response after the installation of the update, reverted back into the stable and quiet Equinox I am used to. Also, it was easy to put my settings back in and actually it was good practice to re-do them all, a secondary bonus from resetting.

  8. The Monster has a Fun factor that I have never really experienced in any other Detector. It’s simplicity is a beautiful thing. Bryan

  11. I keep getting requests for at least one forum with a looser format and in particular a place where people can make "that first post" and introduce themselves. So here it is. Meeting people and getting to know them often means general chit chat and such. Anything is pretty much ok here but more than ever it is important people abide by the forum Prime Directive - treat others with decency and respect. Past history and baggage from other forums is not allowed here so just leave it at the door, or do not enter. This is the forum most likely to see new members and so all "Forum Info" posts are also archived here for those who want to know more about how the forum software works, etc. Other than that - enjoy! Now a little history for those totally new to the forum. I used to hang out on all the other forums. The problem over time is I kept bumping into rules. No mentioning certain brands or dealers for fear of offending sponsoring dealers. That will never happen here as the forum members come first. The one that really irritated me was no links to all sorts of things, like other forums. Here, if the subject matter is relevant, please link to it! No silly "Google it" games etc. And then there are the trolls. People who just like to stir things up. Childish and rude people. Tons of off topic garbage to wade through to find decent information. Etc. I just got tired of it all because over time it all got worse as forums became more commercial. I started these forums to escape all that and with the goal of attracting like minded people who are also tired of all the nonsense. So the main thing here is very, very simple. With the possible exception of this forum, keep discussions on the particular forum subject matter. Be a decent person and better yet, try to help others. On topic, be good - it really is that simple here. New Member Signup - Click Here! Lost Password - Click Here! Forum Tips & Tricks Advanced Search Tag List/Index

  12. Go west young man and be sure to take a VLF gold detector. That was the dream I had...so I packed the rig and off I went. My research showed load gold and so I knew the potential for some VLF pickin was possible. The White's 24K performed as I had hoped. Photos of a few more specimen pieces. Yes I did get a manual and it makes a world of difference. I think I'll go back to another site I found a picker and with the new settings, I should be able to and some more to the poke. After all, mama needs more shoes. I'm expecting to have new in box detectors to sell and of next week. Contact me for details.

  13. That sucks but at least it is still covered. Would've really sucked if you were 5 months out of warranty.

  14. Sharing the day with your son is by far the best. Even though the finds are great "I've only found one large cent in 20 years" the memories made for both you and your son are more precious. I tried many time to get my dad to go hunting with me, but he never did and now he's gone. Do it every chance you get.
