  1. The wife and I got out for a couple of hour detect today and about 1 hour in I got a really iffy signal with the 7000 and it sounded like it was down maybe a couple of inches. I was really surprised when the hole started getting deeper and deeper and the target was still there. When I was down about 8" in hard ground I got the 2300 my better half was using so I could pinpoint cause I really couldn`t tell where in the hole it was and down about the 12" mark this piece popped out. Looking at it from the side it pretty well looks like a rock but all around the edges there are hundreds of tiny pinpoints of gold. It sg`s at 2.1 grams gold and is my biggest piece in quite some time. ?

  2. Silver & Gold at its best. I can not believe the finds some of my customers are making with their Equinox detectors. This is the 5th gold coin (I'm only counting in US finds, not England) my customers have recovered with the NOX machines. Brandon in UT, finds an old site and recovers a couple beautiful Seated Liberty Dimes (see pictures). Then the following weekend (this last Saturday) he goes back to the same site and does the Holy Grail we all dream of. Yes he unearths a glimmering gorgeous 1886-S $5 Eagle. I've been a dealer for 25 years and never before have I had so many happy customers making Top Quality Finds. All I can say, is the Equinox and the Multi IQ Technology has to have something to do with all the treasures coming up.

Gold Bug 2 10" elliptical I'm not too keen on whats going on inside of these coils but I thought it would maybe be good to have some images on board for reference for those of you that have some knowledge about how these things are built. The Gold Bug 2 is only about 4 years old. If anyone wants to repost these images for future use in discussions it's OK by me. strick

  7. I've been meaning to post this for a while . After seeing the great finds GKman found on the Equinox forum, it reminded me to post this. Here is a shot of most of the brass Native American kettle points we found from an ongoing project. These points were found by 4 other hunters and myself. I get asked a lot of times from people that find their own points, how old are they? and what tribe do they belong to? The time period is easy, early to mid 1600's., but the attribution is more difficult. So we are in the process of starting a data base of points found while metal detecting. Since I am a metal detectorist, first and foremost , I informed them that the exact locations are not going to be disclosed ?. No one is going to give GPS numbers on their finds. The people I have worked with for the past 8 years are excellent people and are only interested in general information and a good, clear picture with a ruler or measurements (length and width). This data base will allow us to see where points are generally found and will eventually be able to attribute styles of points to actual tribes. I have only 1 point that was found at a cellar hole, on my own and have given them the information on where it was found. Only the town and state. That is all they needed. So if anyone is interested in contributing information (anonymously if you choose), I would be glad to log it in. Hope you enjoy the picture. It represents around 10 tribes that fought along side the English, against the Pequot tribe. If you have never had the privilege of digging one of those, I can say it never gets old. I have had the pleasure of pulling a lot of those points pictured from the dirt and the feeling is always the same ?

  11. The 1857 Seated dime is a beauty by itself. I'd be shakin' if I dug that up. Did anyone check the weight on the $5 gold piece? Red Book says 8.359 g when freshly minted. There will be some loss due to wear, but not much. With the exception of tungsten (which is so hard that I doubt you could use it in counterfeiting) the only stable metals that have gold's density are in the platinum group (or neighbors) and extremely valuable in their own right. For example, if it were plated lead it would weigh under 5 g. (Unalloyed lead would probably bend, though.) The reason I bring this up is the corrosion. Even gold that's been in saltwater for centuries (sunken Spanish loot) doesn't look as bad as this, from what I've seen. Certainly possible that it's genuine and looks this corroded, but weighing is an easy sanity check. Definitely not wanting to burst anyone's bubble, but counterfeiting wasn't all that unusual back in the Wild Wild West days, as I'm sure you know. Heck, the mint had to modify the V-nickel (Liberty Head nickel) in 1883 to add the word 'CENTS' on the reverse because people were plating them and passing them off as 5 dollar gold pieces.

  12. in all metals the sound is mono-tone deep targets better mark the difference sounds light and symmetrical = often gold in saturation (sound too strong) the difference is more difficult ((it is necessary to raise the coil / to no longer be in saturation)) but iron, especially in length, like nails give a double sound / very mark the loss between / all metals and rejection is very weak with AQ // everything depends on the sand in white sand with normal mineralization about 5%

  15. the silence is golden lol, it's a French expression, but I do not know, if it is well translated ... in short, some news AQ production must "normally" start on July / August there was some change on the machine new sticker a setting mode add and performance in reject mode significantly improved (result of the first research on Terra) + for the Terra first tests were performed with a new 8 inch coils same design as the 12.5 '/ at manta technology it starts less than 7us !!! (the delay in series is not yet fixed ...) with identque coil diameter (8 ') / facing the competition I'm just telling you, that the results are excellent ? still a little patience and I guarantee you that the level of performace will surprise many people extreme sensitivity on small jewels = gold possibility of finding gold on a zone full of iron (even of 24 carats) and in all-metal mode a depth on a gold ring that you have never seen and all that = in perfect silence the others can get out all the machines they want I think that AQ at least 5 years ahead of the competition (minimum) """so in my opinion""" it's worth it to wait a bit ?

  16. What a cool thread Dave. Years ago I too was the recipient of someone's kindness (and patience), when I was learning. Actually I had a mentor in dredging and then later another teacher with a detector. That instruction came full circle years later and led to one of my best moments when I was able to turn someone on to their first piece of gold after they had been detecting without any luck for more than 8 years. We are all better for sharing our hard-won knowledge. You don't have to give away your best sites but sharing information on detecting and prospecting methods is so easy when you get right down to it, and there is no better feeling than seeing someone take what you have given, learn from it and pass it on. Don't think we'll ever know as much as some of those amazing old timers though. The knowledge that dies with them will never be reclaimed. They simply do not make people like that much any more. Just think what they could have done with a 7000 in their day. Thanks again Dave (and everyone else).

  22. How simple that 2300 mono is, what the hell was all that about each coil being "individually" matched to each detector. Guess Coiltek put that myth away with the Extremes. 25. I'm late getting out week 4, but unfortunately there wasn't much to report. We've had wind, then some wind & rain, then some really fine days. We lost a day here and there between weather, then the meeting with Dave on the X-Coil. We had 2 long days at the very southern end of the lease and did a great deal of exploring. We found a few crumbs. Dennis actually found 12 nuggets that weighed a total of 1.2 grams. It was enough to keep us busy and always thinking we were one coil swing away from a really good strike. We just couldn't get that coil over the big stuff. I'm using our backup GPX5000 with the 14X9 Coiltek Elite coil while I'm waiting for my Patch Lead to be completed. I was amazed at how quiet that machine can be. I cranked up the RX and cranked down the Stabilizer just so I could hear some noise. I found 3 tiny crumbs, 1 of them in one of my own boot scrapes from last week. Clearly, the 5000 can find tiny gold. My Patch Lead is delayed for another week, apparently one of the 5-pin connecter screws twisted off during reassembly. I'm satisfied I'm not missing much if anything with the 5000, but I really want to get that 17" X-Coil in motion. We're making our move to a new lease tomorrow so we've got a full day of packing and hauling Camp Yank. The flies remain a constant distraction during midday. I bring out the bug hood the minute one dive bombs my eyes or nose. They are persistent little buggers, Dennis is a lot more tolerant. Paul made it back safe and sound. He's chomping at the bit to get some of this $1400 an oz gold out of the ground. Their backhoe is up and running again, so good things should start happening soon for their team. Sorry for the short and relatively uneventful report. Maybe next week, it's all about the possibilities not the probabilities that keeps us swinging those detectors.

  31. Hi Gerry Thank you. I am here in the Hudson Valley of New York, so I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by lots of history.. The Tony Eisenhower headphones sounded twice as loud as the grey ghost when I was diving. Unfortunately with all the bubbles that are generated underwater with each exhale it made it almost impossible to hear anything with the ghosts. I suppose the Tony Eisenhower could be even louder, but they were good enough for me

  32. I'd say! You obviously have a super high quality imager, too. Back when I was 'playing' with X-ray an generator (25+ years ago) we had an interlock on the door to the room where it was located. You weren't allowed (supposed to be) in the room when the generator was powered on. Clearly you know what you're doing (or don't tell us in case you don't ?). Thanks for the cool pics!

  41. The trick is to get new models when they come out so you get the full ride. After several years you just never know when a new model may.. or may not, come out. And no matter what the new machine costs existing units always take a price hit as many people dump the older model to get the newer one. Since Minelab owns the high end market with no competition in sight there is no business reason to replace the GPZ any time soon. For a long time now the only company competing with Minelab on the high end gold detectors has been Minelab. Not saying it won’t happen, but people counting X number of years between releases forget what happened when the GPX 4500 came out. The release time between it and the final GPX 5000 doubled over previous release intervals. I know because I sold my GPX 4500 anticipating a new model.... and then had to buy another one when the 4800/5000 release was delayed.

  43. In FNQ Australia, there are a number of properties you can go on & detect for gold. Most places are pay to detect & are well set up for camping with designated areas set aside for metal detecting, if you are fortunate enough to have access to private leases & cattle stations with gold bearing country even better again. Up until today, I had access to one of these private cattle stations to prospect on. Unfortunately I no longer have access, this is due to the fact there are still people doing the wrong thing while on these properties. The rubbish left behind at camp sites and open detector holes for cattle to break legs in is out of control. On top of that you got fence jumpers & poachers running a muck too. This is causing huge issues for for graziers forcing them to close the gates to everyone & in most cases getting access now, is nearly impossible. I can't express in words how disappointing this is for us guys & girls who are doing the right thing, only to be told you can't detect at your favourite spot anymore because of w#%kers ruining it for everyone. So the quest for a new spot starts again.... Take only gold and memories & leave only foot prints. So we will all have somewhere to look for gold in the future!

  45. After less than one year and maybe 20 cycles the battery charger for my SDC2300 quit working. I tried several different things like different batteries, using both 12 volt and 110ac and the unit would not charge. I called MineLab explained my problem and received an RA number. Shipped old charger out on a Tuesday priority mail, they received it on Thursday and I got a confirmation email that they had received it. On Monday I got another email saying the unit had been repaired and was being shipped out. On Friday I received a brand new charger with new batteries (10 days from my original shipment including one weekend). Outstanding customer service and shipping times have made me a happy camper and the SDC is ready to go - Thanks to MineLab

  46. It's complicated, but it's freedom to me, I get real claustrophobic in places with all private land. That is a sticky issue that someone else can tackle. I've made my case over the years in a number of places and I'm done with that now. The answer you'll get from most in the mining community not named "jasong" though is "no". Read the law and court precedents and come to your own conclusions though if you have a lot of time to waste. Easier is just to move on and find some place not claimed at all.

  47. “A man who unearthed a £145,000 Anglo-Saxon pendant has found more treasure dating back about 800 years. Tom Lucking's latest find saw him dig up a brooch dating back to between 1200 and 1300 in Wymondham, Norfolk in September. In 2014, the then student found a pendant in Winfarthing, Norfolk dating from circa 630AD. Mr Lucking, 27, said the brooch, which features two lions and is studded with two pink stones, was a "special" find.” Full story and photos here

  48. There is a glimmer of hope. A fellow who not so long ago advertised mods on Tesoros has relocated and although he isn’t set up yet he expects to be able to offer mods and perhaps repairs in the not too distant future, I believe he has schematics for at least some of the machines. He isn’t ready to go public yet, but at least it is a glimmer of hope. I have been in contact with him but he has asked for no further disclosure till he is in a position to do something useful.

  49. I have been checking in on this thread for the last month. I greatly appreciate all of the information this site has on the Equinox. In that time I have order 4 different pairs of bluetooth headphones to go with my 600. I have ordered the Soundpeats Engine, the Soundpeats Q12+, the Dudios Zeus, and the Aukey Latitude. I think Amazon is going to drop my account with all of my returns. Every pair have had the same issues. They connect, but I get a crackly sound and they cut in and out. I had an old pair of Taotronic TT-BH23 (now discontinued) that I have been using and got good sound out of them even though they were not low latency but this last week they decided to quit taking a charge. I contacted Minelab and they suggested I do a factory reset, which I did and have done each time I switched headphones, or possibly meeting up with someone that has the factory bluetooth headphones, which is not possible because I don't know anyone that has them. Has anybody had any issues similar to this? Any help would be appreciated.

  50. Hey Guys, Being a dealer here in the US for many moons, I have seen many mods come from Australia used on US ground. I can personally say I seen some friends use Ismael's mods on some of the early SD and GP's and they got great results. Over the years, Ismael used to contribute to many online forums, including mine back in the early days. As far as Woody, his mods look fancy and some swear by them. I have also heard otherwise. I'm sure there are ways to mod Minelab's and get better performance on some locations and certain types of gold without having to upgrade every couple 2-3 years to get the latest and greatest. I personally never used mods, just believed in learning the detector well, pay close attention for faint targets and prospect for new ground.
