  1. Went early today to the larger beach. Another beautiful day, even the water was tolerable. Low tide is strange here, you go from having about 50 feet of beach to over 200. It's difficult to read but thanks to advice I've been getting from y'all I did great, at least for me and the 4 hours I was out. I searched along the tidal pools for a while, walked about a mile. Didn't find much of anything, not even an iron grunt until I found a couple of coins and this metal anvil. I assume it's for making jewelry. Shown with the ring I dug yesterday for size: Ran into a guy swinging an Equinox like a golf club, thought of getting a video, it was comical. Exchanged pleasantries and moved on. Only detector I saw all morning. Did a little more beach reading, some advice I got was to go knee to waist deep in the water, but the tide was so far out from where it normally is it didn't seem worth it, so instead coming back I aligned myself at knee to waist level to high tide. Here is a photo taken from where low tide was: Here is a shot showing the slope and where I found the coin line: The umbrella is at high tide. Hit the coin line! Did pretty good for a novice in only about 1/2 mile: 1970 Mexican Cinquenta Centavos piece, (fitty cent), 4 relatively new clad quarters, Jeff nickel, dime, and a memorial. Most money I found so far. Copper bracelet and a Stainless spinner ring. Best find of the day and hence the title: Little gold wave ring. ID'd at 1. Not sure if it's solid gold but it's certainly 24k plated, really waxy feel. No marks. My wife loves it. Found it leaving at the entrance. She took the spinner too. 😀 Here's my take on that - People get to the beach and are so glad to be here they run and drop all their stuff. I found the bracelet and both rings near the beach entrance along with the Mexican coin and the Jefferson. By then there were so many people in the beach it was time to go. Tomorrow I'm hitting the areas early where everyone sets up . 😈

  2. Howdy Gents, First i wanna thank Steve, for birthin this baby,And all the rest of ya that have contributed info,as a fng with new found burnin fever to find Things,Which seems the Easy part,as ive got more questions now than when i started😁 i had no hope of ever stumbling onto such a site as this. Ive been diggin only since Plandemic "Lockdowns" began. Im pretty sure this site is my best find yet👍👍 i started readin about 4.30 pm yest and finally got around to creating an account about 3.30am this morn. I hadnt hardly clicked verification email an started coffee when i lost internet. Damdest thing is im sure i learned more in those few hours then i couldve Ever learned on my own But,my initial goal was to figure out which detector was gonna give me biggest bang for buck,so what i learned, was as usual, what i Assumed was All wrong😁 ive literally went from garret at max thru amfibio an nox 600 an back an forth thru the at pro an gold an considering Whites, when i stumbled onto F5 an that was dam near it,Then i saw the thread about Bounty Hunter 3300 for 99 bucks and Steve and several others musings on that subject. I was then considering just gitn a F5 with smaller coil an gitn another 4"coil for this here Canslaw poptop killer i already have and just learnin how to make it run or Bust😁 im a greenhorn but i think now,but i digress🤣 that it would mebbe behoove me to mebbe just coupla more buttons or knobs to play with🤔 Dammedifiknow. Ok lifes short and ive got lots of mistakes yet to make so, Im gonna just shutup and listen as ive dug buckets of junk and few ihp,s few silvers an 1 buffalo bunches of brass an few pocketknives. Probably enuff half rotted stinkin lincolns to buy that 99 buck bounty hounter. My problem and naggin fear is Im missin and or leavin stuff because of such trashy areas. I do appreciate greatly Any knowledge yall care to share,i really would like a lil upgrade but i want to know how to use the things. Im very aware a 5grand machine same with rifle isnt gonna make Meat where there is none. I do think from amount of junk and age of some of it,theres more to b had? Im Brian and im situated in southern Mississippi not far from coast. Thanks,😁 I Think, once again for mebbe feeding a new addiction. Fair winds Following seas my brothers from other mothers. Lets see where this adventure leads.✌

  3. Moving Boulders to find Placer Gold Moving Boulders to reach Bedrock Crevices to locate those Placer Gold Nuggets that are hiding just out of sight. Jeff and Gary ( Two Toes ) use a Come-along and a Breaker bar to move the boulders then check the bedrock crevices with a Minelab SDC 2300 Metal Detector. A Come-Along is a hand operated winch used to pull objects in this case Boulders !! SG 036

  4. I went today with my "new" Apex for a short outing to a third test location to double check that the "false signals " issue has been solved by the new Viper coil sent by the Garrett support . It is an iron infested path in a wood where I have tested the Vanquish 540 a year ago. - First the Apex/Viper is very stable , no more false signals .🙂 - Second I have been very impressed by the Apex , it is almost silent on the iron trash, with sharp beeps on good signals . I confirm that the Apex iron filtering is excellent and better than the MLs Vanquish and Equinox in iron trashed areas. 🙂 It is the third outing with the Viper new coil without any pb , then I consider that this "false signal" issue is now solved. I will continue to test the Apex but will post my reports in a new thread ...

  5. I got one also and I already bought two haha. They must be going down the old list. That’s good though I think. Hi Dew, Joe has his grandkids down so he is off the radar a bit. I’m sure he might take a min to check in just not regular. I would call Fisher and ask them. I am not sure how they are selling them. The way my mail read was $1499 for the AQ, one battery, phones and standard coil and $299 for the additional 8” coil. Both coils work well and have there place as you know. I think I saw a post by someone here using his 8” coil and said that it was deep. I always am scared to give depth in inches as I water hunt mostly and i use 3 scoops deep or whatever. Maybe I’m off a bit so it’s a guessing game sorta. Anyway the other guy says it’s deep. Joe loaned me his to give a shot but I have not done any air test with it. With all the gold down your way, I would think you could buy the limited and get it paid for by the time the newer machine shows up and then decide what to do. What I can say now, is that I am very happy with my AQ and noise is not a problem for me. Good luck to everybody.

  6. Can't tell the date. Was using the Equinox 800 in Gold 1. This is the first Buffalo Nickel I found that could tell what the date was. In my regular ground, the ground balance is around 10. Ground balance on the wet beach on lake was 68.

  8. So last week I'm watching Freddy Dodge's Gold Mining show and he calls his friend, a "nugget detecting Expert" to come check out a claim to see if there is any large gold to be found. She takes out her Garrett Apex and proceeds to find close to a 1/4 oz nugget. That's it, I'm selling all my other detectors and getting an Apex.🤣

  9. It's one of those days that I had to go to Plan B. Last minute plans for some detecting with a friend at an old ghost town fell thru. So, I decided to play catch up on some shallow water ring hunting I missed out on last year due to moving. The last several years, I've been scouting places to hunt for lost Jewelry, specifically, rings. Taking a page out of Mike Hillis' post on Inland Jewelry Hunting Tips here on detector prospector, I've been making changes. Some great info there. The last few years it has been paying off for me. Compared to previous years, my ring count is way up.Arriving onsite, the place still looked promising. Once geared up, i walked the shore and picked a place to start. Moments later, first target - a solid 16 on the EQ800 target ID. Some difficult digging in the rocks and the signal is out of the hole. And there is a men's black tungsten carbide ring with a center insert that looked like wood under epoxy. I was hoping it was going to be a good day. And it was. More hunting; some pull tabs, some square tabs, some fishing lures, a couple gold rings, a .925 silver bracelet. a couple more 'other' rings and two hours later, I was out of area I could hunt with the gear I brought. Looking in my finds pouch I see 5 rings, 2 of which are gold, a 3rd is a maybe and the last 2 are definitely NOT made of precious metal. After arriving at home, the magnet test shows the unmarked white gold looking ring responds very faintly to a super magnet. Rats. First water hunt of the year yields 2 gold rings (1 marked with a very worn 14k, the other unmarked) and 3 others, 1 Mex .925 silver bracelet, and a finds pouch with miscellaneous junk / garbage found where people meet water. While I missed out on having a go at an old ghost town, it was nice to turn up a couple of gold rings and a silver bracelet to get the shallow water year started. 10. From Kitco News. www.kitco.com Perth Mint sees record demand first-quarter demand for gold bullion (Kitco News) - Mints worldwide are seeing unprecedented demand for physical bullion, with the Perth Mint the latest to announce record sales for the first quarter of 2021. In a blog post published Tuesday, the Perth Mint said 130,000 troy ounces of gold and almost 1.6 million troy ounces of silver shipped to clients worldwide in March. “These figures are 285% higher (gold) and 178% higher (silver) than average monthly sales dating back to 2012,” the mint said in the commentary. In the first quarter this year, the Perth Mint sold more than 330,000 ounces of gold and more than 4.5 million ounces of silver, said Jordan Eliseo, manager of listed products and investment research at the mint, in the report. “These figures represent the highest calendar quarter on record for gold and the fourth-highest calendar quarter on record for silver,” he said. General Manager Minted Products Neil Vance said that the most popular bullion coins at the Perth Mint are the one-ounce Kangaroo coins. “The market continues to take everything we can make at present,” he said. The historic demand for gold and silver comes as both precious metals saw sharp declines since the start of the year. The mint noted that gold prices fell 11% and silver prices dropped 9% in the first three months of 2021. “There have been multiple factors contributing to the sell-off, which has now seen the U.S. dollar gold price pullback by almost 20% since it hit all-time highs in August 2020,” the mint said. Resilient strength in the U.S. dollar, rising 10-year bond yields, growing competition from cryptocurrencies and record valuation in equity markets are all competing against the gold market, the Perth Mint said. The strong demand for bullion comes as the Perth Mint continues to battle it out with social media and Reddit users who are encouraging investors to run on the mint and create a physical short squeezing. Reddit users have accused the mint of not having enough physical silver. The Perth Mint said that it has plenty of supply, but it takes time to refine the metal into its popular products. “While we just about satisfied demand for gold this month, interest in silver is outstripping our capacity to convert plentiful supplies into finished goods,” said Vance. The data from the Perth Mint is also in line with global demand trend. Data from the U.S. Mint shows that it sold 412,000 ounces of gold in the first quarter of 2021, its best start since to the year since 1999.

  12. Hi Kac,i think i met you all over the place last nite😁 im still lost in maze of info here. Not a bad thing at all, just so easy to get derailed. So im sure my wants far outweigh my needs,as i read quite a bit about diff machines and and capabilities in knowledgeable hands im thinking as i read quite a bit of Steves stories, tips tricks and just unselfishly sharing so much is very cool of him,and yourself an Chase an mr f350 and the others. Just browsin the Data and Comparisions had me for hours. I think it may be better if i tell ya hunting conditions and probable finds, the area is mostly pine barrens, with sandy to silty loose loam i guess youd call it,topss of hills and clear cuts being sandy to hard pack clay and further down into bottoms it turns into muck or loosely packed silt thats eroded down into bottoms over time. I think most of the creeks or a lot of em had better defined banks until all virgin timber was whacked by 1910-15 and then i think a lot of silt jus kinda buried quite a bit of the bottoms an instead of 1 creek its several that change courses dam near every good rain. Ive found big ol cast iron bean pot and kettle and other stuff such as hatchet axe heads sitn right in center of washout like the camp was jus left and all stuff settled down to hard pack clay of crick bottom. Then crick changed course. Quite few log pole or the remains of anyhow bridges across the cricks. The only place ill find stuff is right in bottom of crick where its hard pack. Theres als a couple of ww2 pow sites here and poptops canslaw for days.lol Earliest coins are late 1940s that ive found so far. Surely theres more. Id think with stuff im findin that most dont care to dig melted aluminum an poptops an canslaw just name it,it was pow site and they cut timber an farmed an navy had shootn range and theres a lake and people camp fish hunt an burn Thousands of beer cans🤣 honestly its a learnin experience for me. I think id do well if i had a machine i can sumhow learn to tune or possible a diff tone or tones. I have a bounty hunter tracker 4,w/Sensitivity and Discrim/notch an 3 pos toggle switch relic all metal tone. If i tune out trash im not hearin nickels. Further i just cant seem to tune like Sensitivity 0-1 an Disc in any position that seems to me to give most alum or small iron a diff tone so i can can distinguish from. Now say when i get the low tone i can switch to All metal and i Can hear diff. Thatd be like every 10 ft 🙈

  13. Brian, Your a hoot!! That was one hell of an intro! Welcome to the forum!! Make sure to peruse Steve's form rules, and you should be good to go join in the fun! Since you are close to the coast, do you water or beach hunt? Specific information like that will help us help you! Also budget! What your swingin' now, etc... It's hard to resist , but don't rush a purchase! And If you have a reliable detector dealer nearby, demos are an option, as well as used! There are also some great dealers that frequent this site! This hobby can get expensive quick, if your not careful, and don't do your homework! Anyway, Good Luck, and we'll be seein' ya!!👍👍

  14. I won't be making them for sales. Just me playing around. The Excalibur battery pictured ran for 4 days straight (106 hours) but it runs Hot, (4 18650 Samsung 3500mAh 16.8) which I am afraid might not be good on some days or machines. So Another one with 26650 batteries is planned but lower voltage. Steve sent me his extra EBL 5000mAh, so a 3 cell will be next but with the big batteries, 12.6 volts.

  15. I don't know about the 5000, but all 7000/14 users I know use a bungee. I even use one for the SDC when I detect for longer, also to keep the coil control as good as I can. I can do without, but the coil control will decline over time. But the ergonomics matter much more than the weight, so the 6000 might be fine without bungee, or at least fine for longer. But weight aside, I love my hipstick so much that I would never go without it. It makes everything so easy without the need for a heavy harness, especially in the heat. Even the GM with hipstick is nice after many hours swinging.🤣

  17. That's Freddy Dodge's Mine Rescue where he and Juan Ibarra travel around and spend a week with small scale miners, debugging their equipment and operations. If anyone is familiar with another Discovery network show named Homestead Rescue where three people (Rainey family) travel around the USA helping fledgeling homesteaders; that's the show's template. The 'friend' is Gypsy Jewels (we've mentioned/disucussed her before) who is a Garrett 'rep' on YouTube, etc. Garrett has a finger in Gold Rush and its spinoffs, I think. We see a lot of Super Sluice gold pans, for example. Dodge's and Todd Hoffman's photos can both be found on Garrett boxes, in their catalogs, etc. If I recall accurately the episode you mention, she says the Apex will find 1.5 g size and up. Most of us know that is a pretty darned nice size nugget and many detectors (not necessarily gold specialty) will sound off on that if it's not too deep. Did she actually find the nugget purported to be found on the show? Who knows; it's possible. Was it planted? We don't know that either. There's a quote that fits the situation: Opinions are like a_______, everybody has one.

  20. Don't hold your breath, you might pass out. They keep posting items with no pricing or critical info. Almost like they are fishing for interest. I not sure about you but I would like to see the new multi before a shovel, hip holster, or head phones. I'm starting to wonder whats going on at Nokta. I think the accessory market is way overloaded with products and not sure why the marketing campaign is going in this direction. How about teasing the new multi? Garrett Did.

  22. Late afternoon trip to the camp with my youngest son today. He prefers trout fishing over dirt fishing so he ended up with 3 trout and I found what’s pictured. The lead plumb Bob at the bottom came up as a 35 on the Equinox and it was in a cabin site under rocks. My wife had previously found a Chinese lock at the site and now a Chinese coin finally showed up. I’ll hit it again soon and thanks for looking.

  27. Lol i havent made it to beach yet, still plenty of alum an scrap iron to dig here😁 i reckon im lookn fer a machine in under 200ish range thatl jus cherrypick good coins an old jewelry without loadin me up too bad with ghosts of hangovers long forgotten. 😉 nah ive no experience. Kinda like yote trappin, you can catch an hold a few yotes in a stock 1 1/2 bridger but i wouldnt set out intentionally to do so,if i had a choice. From sounds of things i bleve ill find somethin in 3-700 range that i can play with. Just so many diff things to consider, the Takeovers, mom pops goin away,Supply lines,Fiat currencies,Plandemics ammo scarcer then buffalo nickels round here. I was on Garretts site and they direct ya to enter zip code for nearest dealer,it appears there were 3 within 50 60 miles but it seems they dont deal anymore. Mebbe a ol Gold Pro or new Max may b best all around beatn bushes type weapon. Kinda like ol waterproof mules you can ride em hard an put em up wet. I think im kinda likin the Tones idea an if i had somehat of a digital take to confer with thats lagniappe✌

  28. GPZ with 14, I do use a bungy. I can detect without one, but I can feel things after a while GPZ with 12" NF coil, I haven't used a bungy yet, but haven't done longer than a 3hr stint GPX4500/5000 with 12" Evo or smaller - no bungy. I will use one with 15" coils or bigger 6000 with 11" Coil - no bungy. Balance is indeed excellent.

  32. Thanks Steve. Y'all have been a great help. It's kind of a unique situation here, the tide is literally 7-10 feet. A hundred feet of beach or more at low tide, next to nothing at high. Early on at peak low the above was my view back at the beach. The umbrella is sitting at high tide! 😀 What I ended up doing which found me the coin line was going where my waist to knees matched up with the high tide line. Scored a bunch! The water was about 75-100 feet past me. These tidal pools produced some stuff but the real sweet zone was a few feet from the top cut. I found older coins in the pools.

  33. Hey SchoolofhardNox, Im with you on this as that's where the finer women's rings come in. Everything 1 and up that I could get even a semi-consistent signal over was dug. The area doesn't lend itself to foil. I was expecting more sinkers and split shot from fishermen and I didn't get even 1. That was unusual. I usually come home with several. This area is quite rocky making it easy for anything dropped to quickly disappear in the nooks and crannies i need to get out the waders and move into deeper water and find the women's rings. They should be there somewhere. Thanks for the thoughts. rich

  34. One question...... Is that the best you can do ? Skuh kuh kuh kuh My old master (electrician) used to ask me that when I did everything perfect !
    2 points
  35. Hope you are wearing something good on your feet. Glass and fishing hooks hurt! 😄 I would try from the shore to just above the knees. That will tell you what settles there. If it's all light aluminum and tin foil, and no sinkers or nickles or quarters, then it's either farther out, or buried too deep. Does the river ever go down like a low tide? That's the time to get out as far as you are comfortable.

  36. Out of the 27 golds, 7 to 9 may have been found with my Excalibur. I use the AQ and Excal about 50/50 based on location. But when I go thru a spot there is nothing and I know there is gold. The AQ gets the call, and it produces. During the same time period of the 27 AQ gold the Excalibur got 15, but at different beaches... I'm Blessed in the ability of choosing the right machine and putting myself in the right spot. The AQ has increased my chances of finding Gold ... worthy of purchasing another. Here is the perfect example of a spot I've had guys tell me, don't bring me back here...reason, lack of targets and for that reason it was the first stop for my testing of the AQ.. Out of 4 hunts there last summer the AQ scored 2 gold rings and one gold medallion. After that I knew I was in Love.. (And my offer is still there if anyone wants to go with me this coming summer to this location)

  37. And as Joe, I too enjoy two AQ’s in my stable. I am very satisfied with the results from both my machines. Just my (2) cents worth so to speak. I think the problem with the AQ May lie in several factors. Not everyone is cut out for PI detection. Some will learn to adapt, some won’t. Location is a key factor also. Not every detector is made for every place. The wrong detector in the wrong place can sour anyone to its liking especially if it’s new technology to them. I agree Fisher has had a rocky start to say the least but they have always treated me fairly. I also think that their quality control is lacking as every AQ comes with a test report. I’m not sure how so many issues have come to pass if the reports are correct. All and all though for me, I love my AQ’s and look forward to their use weekly. As always I wish everyone much success no matter what machine you swing and good luck everybody.

  38. Covid Stress Relief Read... Warning, There is some DUMB sarcasm in this post. When it comes to metal detecting, I have no issues with any country and or how dumb/smart we/they/you/me be. If I offend you, no worries, it won't be the last time either. We need to go back a few years for some to realize, some dumb facts.... I figured it out. Gold Monster 1000 - Remember when Africa was sent the Gold Monster 1000 and nobody else. We in USA were told it was designed for them people and it even came with an adaptor for the broom stick (I'm not joking). Yea that detector, the one with Arabic writing on it. The one that's so simple and dummy proof that anyone could use it. But America and Aussies were left out? Well what happened? Australia gold hunters cried like little babies and said "we just as dumb as Africa" and want that detector. Poof and a few months later it happened. Then USA gold hunters cried like little spoiled brats we are and said, "we just as dumb as Africa and Australia" and we want a turn on & go machine. Poof and a few months later it happened. You see, even though this (now the #1 selling gold detector in the world) was never meant for USA or Aussie land, it has earned the respect and accolades as the most STUPID PROOF VLF gold detector out that that actually works quite well for ALL DUMMIES including myself. And that is the #1 reason I prefer selling it. Minelab struck it rich with this detector even when it was never intended for other markets. Hats off to the dummy Minelab Engineer (do they even have dumb Engineers?) who thought of it, but spill your beer to the marketing person who said it's for Africa Only, so I was told. I strongly feel this does make since, after all who in America reads Arabic and who has put a broom handle on the adaptor (would love to see pics). Heck I was going to do a video of just that, but then realized I wasn't smart enough to figure out the adaptor part's usage. GPX-6000 - Now we are coming to the most sensitive DUMMY PROOF Pulse Induction detector to ever be released and almost everyone seems to realize USER FRIENDLY (Dumb Operators) and ERGONOMICS is a MUST. Hats off to the Minelab team who realized this. Spill your beer to the team who thinks USA/Australia don't want the 17" MONO coil. After all we want what Africa gets...is what I hear us spoiled brats are calling. Well, well it's not so simple Mr. Scrooge. COILS -1st off, everyone is getting a MONO coil (yippie), but many of are not happy with DD coil we are getting. I feel it seems to do with the amount of EMI we run into the US, amount of transmitters/receivers, cell towers and airports/military across our land. I know for a fact there are good gold areas I had issues with EMI on my current detectors and MONO coils. Australia is probably close to the same issues I mentioned for USA, but I do know they have vast openness, but much more mineralized soils and salt as well. I tried detecting the salt flats there and even my old DD was not very productive, the MONO was useless and the best coil was the CoilTek Anti interference/salt. So I'm sure that's why we are getting the DD to begin with. The good thing is...after time and when Covid might be over, we'll be able to order the larger, deeper 17" MONO down the road. YIPPIE...Down the road!!! Batteries - Africa gets 2 and we get 1. Heck no, I can easily count two to two one...heck you know what I mean. Why is this Gerry? I thought this hard through and through (bout gave myself a headache), I thought so hard. And a lightbulb across the street came on... I realized to the conclusion, if we are just as Dumb as Africa and forget to charge our GPX-6000 battery that night (I've seen it happen on my 5000 and 7000), then we deserve 2 batteries as well, cause we just as dumb and forgetful (speaking for myself or am I?). Anyway, The best way to fix the not charged battery, is to get up before your hunting buddy and take his battery, put it on your machine and then put your dead battery on his charger. A bit later, everyone gets up, grabs their gear and heads out for the day's hunt. About 2 to 3 hours and 6 miles from the truck, he realizes his detector is down for the day and you get to keep digging gold. That's not dumb on my part, but being impromptu..until your buddies realizes anyway. Back to batteries and a strong thoughtful reason of why we (Australia & US) are only getting 1 battery in each box? Could it be because of the restrictions on shipping batteries in US and Australia is different than Africa? Heck, if you go online and try to decipher the allowance of a metal detector on a plane, you'll get quite confused and want to call their Help Line. Please don't do that, you'll get a dummy at the other end, that owns a Gold Monster 1000, and is afraid to tell you anything. Heck they won't even tell you if they take their detector on the plane. Does anyone know if Africa rules are much more allowable for electronics and battery devices coming into their country is different? I'm too DUMB to know, but I sure would like a 2nd battery. I will say this with pretty much certainty though. After time and when Minelab is caught up with GPX-6000's, I do feel we'll get the option to purchase a 2nd battery. Lets just hope its nothing pricewise like the GPX-5000 battery ($441 US), That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Can anyone shed some light to my dumb thinking? BTW. You know what that Arabic writing says on the GM-1000 as I'm to dumb to know? I heard through the tomato vine, it meant "Dummy Proof Detector". Heck, sign me up.

  39. I have an easy and maybe stupid question to present now... Observing my TDI Bh, with both of the coils I own (the original 12" and the aftermarket Detech 8"), I can clearly see way too long wire around the shaft and I'm forced to make several loops up to the control box near the handle. Supposing to measure the right lenght for the maximum extended shaft, and to cut away the hipmount mile long cable.....Am I doing a disaster or not? I actually can't remember the technical cable's specs in the amazing pdf Steve posted time ago, but if I'm correct it talked about to reduce some current resistance with a slight performance improvement too...Have I seen a mirage or what?... I'm not kidding 😜... It's just me, looking for something to play with, suffering for a missed AQ.

  40. Yeah, Derrick is who lives here, I met him a long time back but at that time he said he wasn't going to do any TV, guess it changed. I haven't seen the Whitewater one as I more or less stopped watching or owning a TV 10 years ago. But I ran into an old closed claim in NNV that was staked by that Fred Hurt guy. Location of which made me think he must have been a gold detectorist at some point in the past, and the location also probably means someone on this forum probably knows/knew him at one point.

  42. Most of the gold I found was in the 1-9 range. That is where he tiny stamped gold charms are, along with crosses, studs, and some small ladies rings. Broken band small rings read there also, along with most small linked gold chains. Above those numbers and you are in the normal ring range. Everyone wants that 1/2 ounce ring, but there are a lot of chains and small gold out there lost over the years.

  43. Look comfortable but having the volume switch on the cord is a no go for me. They always catch on clothing and wires tend to break there. Never a fan of inline switches or controls for that reason.

  45. Yes the river has about a 7-10 foot tide. I'll have some more info tonight, found some stuff. I'm wearing water shoes, especially at the fishing beach. Main beach tomorrow, thanks for the tips!

  46. That button was a great find, if it is an eagle, because it looks more like the running chicken to me. Then again I have never found any of those types of items around here. Good hunting and Happy Easter.

  47. Looking good! I think what I and other users would really like to know is whether or not there is a smaller coil option. I personally would like a small elliptical for when I search for lost coins under sofa cushions or under the seat of my truck. The stock coil looks a little large for that.

  48. I have used the Max a bit and packed many hours into my Pro. The Pro is slightly better on small jewelry. I can see that just about any mid range and now even the under $400 machines can pick up turf gold. Rings tend to be shallow in parks and if you don't mind working through the can slaw or digging the slaw you will just increase your odds of finding gold.. Higher frequency machines just give you more spread on the #'s in the low and mid range conductors. I think Garrett made a good choice on frequency for the Max as it hits silver better than the other 2 machines in the model line. I do find the AT Pro and Max tricky to work through heavy iron riddled areas and if your not careful it is easy to set the iron disc too high and mask out objects.
