This was something I worked on at White's, here is a patent I filed on a more practical version of the technology: https://patents.google.com/patent/US9285496B1 I had it fully built and working with manual ground balance. It was deeper & quieter than a TDI. I was working on autotrack and discrimination and had both crudely functioning, and that's when I left White's. I saw no big technical hurdles left to overcome. Over the years I stayed in touch with people at White's but no one (to my knowledge) ever tried to pick up where I left off. Don't know why. I'd love to finish it but I don't own the patent.

Well kinda (but that's another story) 1 clad dime and 3 memorial pennies , a fishing sinker , an unfired 22 pellet rifle round . 2 1/2 pull tabs and a bunch of tinfoil balls one of which looked like it was turning back to aluminum ore! ( or maybe it was just BBQ sauce ?) and a few odd pieces of iron I haven't washed off yet????? About 3 hours in park1 sens 22 , f2=0 disc = off., the 6" coil on the fully updated 800 Swinging in an old campground (it was root city) I watched being built 60 years ago when I was a little kid 200 yards across the cove through mom's binoculars cuz I was too young to row that far ......somewhere in the wilderness that is the southern Maine coast..I was surrounded by old growth white pine that were protected by the King of England for ship's masts for exclusive use of the Royal Navy....My fave site 30' straight up a cliff from the water ,,,and only covered 1/10th of it. , (It's overlooking "my rock" , where I've been fishing for striped bass since I was 2. It was low tide 2 clam diggahs on the flats , one arrived by boat.........) It was sunny On shore S. <5kts 62* No pics.. I am unworthy. UH AYUH yup yup

After following EQ's progression I decided to buy the 800 hoping for a "simpler" detector than the GPX5000 which I sold. Part of that decision was based on one of Gerry's posts along the lines of "I've found more with a sub $1000 machine than all the more expensive ones ". My 1st time out proved to substantiate the claims made that the EQ will find small gold and larger as I found what I classify when dry washing as a -20 and found a 4.29 gram nugget! This while not fully understanding how to operate the detector! Using the "quick start' and owners full manual I was able to succeed. I hope there are some comprehensive videos out now that I can access?

Went early today to the larger beach. Another beautiful day, even the water was tolerable. Low tide is strange here, you go from having about 50 feet of beach to over 200. It's difficult to read but thanks to advice I've been getting from y'all I did great, at least for me and the 4 hours I was out. I searched along the tidal pools for a while, walked about a mile. Didn't find much of anything, not even an iron grunt until I found a couple of coins and this metal anvil. I assume it's for making jewelry. Shown with the ring I dug yesterday for size: Ran into a guy swinging an Equinox like a golf club, thought of getting a video, it was comical. Exchanged pleasantries and moved on. Only detector I saw all morning. Did a little more beach reading, some advice I got was to go knee to waist deep in the water, but the tide was so far out from where it normally is it didn't seem worth it, so instead coming back I aligned myself at knee to waist level to high tide. Did pretty good for a novice in only about 1/2 mile: 1970 Mexican Cinquenta Centavos piece, (fitty cent), 4 relatively new clad quarters, Jeff nickel, dime, and a memorial. Most money I found so far. Copper bracelet and a Stainless spinner ring. Best find of the day and hence the title: Little gold wave ring. ID'd at 1. Not sure if it's solid gold but it's certainly 24k plated, really waxy feel. No marks. My wife loves it. Found it leaving at the entrance. She took the spinner too. 😀 Here's my take on that - People get to the beach and are so glad to be here they run and drop all their stuff. I found the bracelet and both rings near the beach entrance along with the Mexican coin and the Jefferson. By then there were so many people in the beach it was time to go. Tomorrow I'm hitting the areas early where everyone sets up . 😈

I did get an e-mail from Fisher even though I declined an offer to buy one through Rick a while back. I actually felt a little bad that I changed my mind because I was so anxious to get one at first. However, I think it was a good decision for me based on the reviews of many here. I'm sure that I could have put in the time and effort to make the machine do what I needed it to do but I would rather wait for a more user friendly, reliable version. The e-mail doesn't bother me a bit. To me it means that First Texas knows or will know that interest in the AQ is waning. Perhaps this will result in a more favorable price on the next model. And thank you Rick for all the work that you have put into this roll-out.

That would be crazy.... and that would be in line with why White’s is no more. Thanks for the tidbits Carl. Hopefully Garrett has a better idea of what to do with White’s tech than White’s themselves did. Carl may remember a conversation he and I had years ago. Carl and company were instrumental in bringing the V3i to market. I made a pitch to Carl that while V3i was revolutionary, it missed the mark in one way. My thought was V3i, but stripped into the lightest detector possible, with only the controls actually required for day to day operation. The absolute fact is Whites had an Equinox type design way before Minelab, but stood pat on big box instead of going to the next very obvious step of miniaturizing it. Obvious to me at least, and others listened when White’s did not. And it took Nokta/Makro to make my high frequency MXT. At least the waterproof TDI finally made it Carl, but too little, too late. They were so close though it seems to pulling off a turnaround. The 24K and TDI Beachhunter were both moves in the right direction, and 24K, the last real machine from Whites, is best of class. Maybe without the pandemic, but that was the final blow. It’s too bad, because Whites really was advancing the tech in serious ways more than the other U.S. manufacturers. V3i is a box full of stunning first ideas, none of which reached full fruition at White’s. Seems to be the way of American manufacturers with second generation owners though. Something gets lost in translation from founder, to next in line.

Moving Boulders to find Placer Gold Moving Boulders to reach Bedrock Crevices to locate those Placer Gold Nuggets that are hiding just out of sight. Jeff and Gary ( Two Toes ) use a Come-along and a Breaker bar to move the boulders then check the bedrock crevices with a Minelab SDC 2300 Metal Detector. A Come-Along is a hand operated winch used to pull objects in this case Boulders !! SG 036

I think the 10x5 is going to be worth the wait, so hang in there relicmeister. Hopefully, I'll have a few hundred swings with it under my belt come this time next week and I can report on it.

Nobody asked me any questions about the list. I was given no information regarding how they planned to use it to market the remaining AQ LTD production. The spreadsheet was clearly divided into prospective customers (thank you all) - “withdrawn” prospective customers - and customers who had purchased a unit. .............

People have been swinging hybrids since Minelab combined frequency domain with time domain processing to create BBS multifrequency. Then FBS, now Multi-IQ. And Tarsacci MDT, another machine combining time domain and frequency domain processing. To a certain degree it’s all semantics and definitions more than reality. Marketing muddles things further, and more these days I just pay attention to what they do, and not which squirrel is running the treadmill inside. Whites had working prototypes of this tech, but like most things it gets to this point where “if we can fix this one little but significant problem” but when you fix that, it breaks this, and engineer whack a mole ensues. That’s probably where this is at, as they never could get it to market. Hopefully Garrett can make something of it, as it’s one of whites Crown Jewels they were holding. There is no doubt in my mind that the future belongs to sophisticated mixed processing machines, with single frequency now the realm of the rebox and relabel crowd.

FINALLY got out on first hunt of the season! Snow capped mountains, plenty of sun, and the temps were cool enough the bugs weren't out yet. The take isn't much (.980g) but FUN, FUN, FUN!!!!!!

Something tells me Garrett is aware.

Here's my view... I have an AQ also. It has been in for repair and returned to me. I received the email from FT offering me another. At first I thought it was some kind of spam. Then I figured maybe that was FT's way of notifying me that another AQ, or battery, or 8 inch coil was now available. I thought nothing more of it and didn't respond back to them. As long as they don't notify me about my car warranty, I'm not bothered at all.

Rick - my response to you was merely to point out to you that Fisher is phoning it in and not even bothering to make good use of the well documented list you provided them. Now they are simply spamming everyone on the list regardless of status, which, if you had a not so great experience, like Mitchel, might tend to tick some people off. Rather than shrugging it off with an "it's in their hands now" response, as a dealer, you might want to pass along to them that their lack of subtlety and thoughtfulness in utilizing the list is making it look like you basically provided them prospective buyer contact information at a price which could inadvertently blow back on you because they are being so hamfisted in the way they are using the info and that can damage future business for both you and Fisher. It's a simple, minor annoyance for me because I never got to the point of putting any skin in the game. But you might want to make a mental note of those you know whose experiences with the AQ were not all that great and whether it makes sense for Fisher to be blindly pitching an AQ sale to those folks because you turned over the contact info for a fee. Your call...as to whether you should make that call to your former business partners. Might save you some future grief.

Not all jewelry is marked. There are a lot of small makers that don't use or have a makers mark. If it looks solid you may want to get an acid test kit. Have a feeling your going to be snaggin many more rings 🙂

Today's hunt was in an old field inland about 5 miles . Short session. Did a grid on a section with lots of moss under a tree. Swept it with the 15x12 ,marked targets and switched to 6" to pinpoint. (9v dead in the 35) Would have switched to the small one anyway , still aching from yesterday....... Half a rivet , an old nail and a 3" piece of barbed wire.

Location, location, location! and the date is very important breeding pairs can only be found on April 1st! Norm

well ! Looks like the craze about this detector has died down. finally when we see the ratio of problem compared to the small number on the market, fortunately they did not send it to europe because by adding the additional delays of the trip of the broken machine, it would have suffered a lot of complaints and bad advertisements.

Joe, I was mystified when I dug that up. No idea why anyone would chuck an anvil in the ocean. Truly strange find. 🤪 Ring could indeed be rolled gold. Not going to try acid on it, my wife won't let me, but maybe specific gravity when I get home. It looks like it was made today. Not a scratch.

If the above comments are accurate, It is a situation in which I am not pleased at the way Fisher has utilized the marketing information I sent them. I sent the President of FTP a strong email protesting their pestering “declined” customers with emails etc. Imagine my embarrassment when I found the cause of the mess.... I just figured out what the hell happened. MY BAD. I kept a neat list, all you prospective and committed customers, plus a list of those who had been on the list and declined later, plus all the buyers All neat on my iPad in “Numbers” the iOS spreadsheet. I just looked at what Fisher actually got. My spreadsheet converted to an incomprehensible list of Excel spreadsheets with all the data scrambled. MY apologies to anyone who has been inconvenienced. I will also have to apologize to the President of First Texas who I just sent a stiff email to!!!!! I do wish however that they had sent me an explanation of what they intended to do going forward.

I too got the mail but it did not bother me in the least. The limited the way I see it was just that. A limited addition put in the hands of those who wanted it, so they could gain insight from the actual people who use such a machine and to put the information to use in the unlimited version. It seems that is what they have done. Weighed all the responses and changed the things that we in the field suggested. So I don’t think calling it a semi-finished design is the correct description. That’s just my way of looking at it. I am sorry to hear that some had some bad experiences with the AQ and Fisher. It’s sad but it happens with all products and as far as Fishers response to my issues I could not have been treated any better. Usually plated metals deteriate fast in the salt and you should see bubbles in the plating. Take a loupe and look it over for any scratches or scuffs and see if there are bubbles, chips etc and see if there is another metal below. Low number wouldn't be that unusual for a high karat like 18 where more common 14 or 10 have higher tid's Congrats either way.

I went today with my "new" Apex for a short outing to a third test location to double check that the "false signals " issue has been solved by the new Viper coil sent by the Garrett support . It is an iron infested path in a wood where I have tested the Vanquish 540 a year ago. - First the Apex/Viper is very stable , no more false signals .🙂 - Second I have been very impressed by the Apex , it is almost silent on the iron trash, with sharp beeps on good signals . I confirm that the Apex iron filtering is excellent and better than the MLs Vanquish and Equinox in iron trashed areas. 🙂 It is the third outing with the Viper new coil without any pb , then I consider that this "false signal" issue is now solved. I will continue to test the Apex but will post my reports in a new thread ...

Welcome aboard Matey ! Ya already made the find of what yuz be lookin' fer,,,,this forum is the mother lode. And I 'ave no doubt ya'll fit in here jus finest kind ! You bin doin' very well with that little "ol Bounty Hunter so farrrrrr ...and ya seem ta 'ave some most excellent areas ta be swingin' 'er ovaaaar ! I'd say keep using th' weapon ya already 'ave fer a while longarrr and hangin' out here fer a few more weeks will probably get ya to which new rig might be suitin' yer needs best. Lots of 'em be equipped with those tones of which ye spoke. Ask any questions ya have as ya go along and the crew will have ya on a true course to the treasarrrrrrrrrr in no time arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !

GPZ with 14, I do use a bungy. I can detect without one, but I can feel things after a while GPZ with 12" NF coil, I haven't used a bungy yet, but haven't done longer than a 3hr stint GPX4500/5000 with 12" Evo or smaller - no bungy. I will use one with 15" coils or bigger 6000 with 11" Coil - no bungy. Balance is indeed excellent.

That would be a great area to be detecting, just all the old relics would be worth it. Not to mention a coin or two.

Rick - that's the point...you're not to blame. I had no issue with how you ran the list and willingly gave you my contact info. I also don't personally care that they reached out the first time to solicit a purchase though I had asked previously to be taken off. It's when I responded to that text with a polite thanks but no thanks and then got no acknowledgement, then get a separate email soliciting again that I wonder what the hell is going on at FT. Seems they are more interested in making a sale than worrying about customer relations. I'm here telling you you whats going on that you may not be aware of and how it can be all twisted around and blown back on you if other folks that are not as ecstatic as Joe and Carolina about their recent AQ Limited Edition experience get peeved about the repeated solicitations. That's all. You did the right thing alerting them, now hopefully they'll pay closer attention to just who they are targeting with their aggressive sales tactics for these left over prototype detectors. PS Rick - saw your updated post. That explains the FT solicitations to previous purchasers and those who later asked to be removed. Still an aggressive solicitation campaign that they should have mentioned to you as a courtesy. Don't let them off the hook too easily.

Welcome to the site!!! I would suggest a simplex or maybe a vanquish, Or whatever detector you have or choose, learn it. Most people over complicate the hobby, Just take your time and have fun. You will find out the plus or minuses of your machine to help you in your next purchase. Good luck Brian.

There's been never ending talk, for years, about supposed machines that will have the best of pulse-world , while at the same time, TID/Disc. ability like standard coin-machines. So that you can effortlessly go into jet-black wet-salt sand, getting fabled depth, ... AND be able to pass nails and bobby pins *all at the same time*. Who can argue with that, eh ? It's no secret that some beach pulse machines can get a dime to a foot deep, so it's merely a matter of adding the ability to disc. out iron, and presto, you have the perfect machine. Right ? But alas, any efforts to do this is always as kac says: Any such disc. (ability to pass nails, or discern TID's) is only good for the top half of the depth (down to 4 or 5" tops ?). Beyond that, everything sounds the same. So if you want the fabled depth, you kiss discrimination goodbye.

I have chopped off about 12” of my TDIBH cable.......no problems at all.

Just wanted to give an update on the Nugget Finder coil cover for the 7000. It lasted about 26-30 days detecting before I noticed the front 1/3 of it, right at the corner, is now worn right through. I think I'm going to start duck taping a couple layers on the perimeter of the under side every 2-3 trips. Let the tape wear through and then re tape. Thanks all for the suggestions.

Hello all... there will be no 2.79 update for the Simplex. The publisher of the video has taken my video from last year where I was talking about the 2.78 update and for some reason named the video ‘’is 2.79 update coming soon’’ ? We contacted the video's publisher and got the name changed as we got bombarded with questions from users. Please do not believe anything you see on social media unless it is coming from me or my team. Sorry for this confusion that we had no control over.

That's because it requires multifrequency to be effective at cancelling the salt signal to maintain stability. One advantage of the 800 I really like is the user profile button, this allows you to have a one touch access to any other mode including single frequency. I had a 600 as a backup beach machine to my 800 and found I really missed having that feature. Nice button, Bob. Glad you got the authorities on your side in the event there is any friction with the locals.

I agree. There are a couple rods better than the Apex rod. Maybe 100 that are worse. You are not saying the Apex rod is bad, just not as good as the best of the best. I’m certain most people used to most other detectors would find the Apex rod to be in the upper tiers. How’s that sound? I think we both in general like the Apex, so that’s three people anyway (counting Monte).

There is a lot in Tiftaaft's and some other posts in this topic that really rings true for me since I only got into actual coin and jewelry detecting a few years ago. I was just using mostly beep and dig gold prospecting detectors with very few other features for many years before that. I went through many detectors fairly quickly, have circled back for a second opinion on a few and have definitely settled on what I think is currently the best detector combination for my detecting style, ability and places I hunt. So........ To me still, there is not an upgrade yet for the Equinox in the intermediate "all around, all terrain" detector category. The Equinox 800 for sure and even the 600 to a degree are the ultimate "almost" detectors. The Equinox 800 has a feature set and adjustability that is "almost" at the top of the list when compared to detectors that cost a lot more (Deus, Tarsacci, V3i, CTX, Etrac etc.) The Equinox has target separation, recovery speed and unmasking abilities that "almost" rival the XP Deus and easily equal or surpass other VLF detectors. The Equinox has numerical and audio target ID accuracy that "almost" equal the CTX 3030 and Etrac series on medium to deep higher conductors and exceeds them on mid to low conductor targets while easily surpassing other VLF detectors. The Equinox has raw depth capabilities that "almost" equal the F75 and Anfibio. The Equinox has ground mineralization handling capabilities that "almost" equal some pulse induction detectors and far surpass any other single frequency or multi frequency VLF. The Equinox has salt water mineralization handling capabilities that "almost" equal specialty saltwater VLFs and PIs. The Equinox has waterproofing capabilities (if one doesn't take it into environments and situations repeatedly that expose it to heavy surf, undertow, sudden/violent immersion and exceed depth/pressure limitations) that "almost" rival proven specialty waterproofed detectors. The Equinox 800 and even to a degree the 600 "almost" could be the best VLF gold prospecting detector ever made. For me in my detecting try out journey, going from several beep and digs to an AT Pro/AT Gold, a Minelab X-Terra 705, Whites M6/MXT/MX7, Fisher F19/F75, Racer/Racer 2 and then to the Equinox even using just default Park 1 on the same sites............it was like I had been detecting half asleep (and missing a lot of targets) to detecting wide awake from drinking a pot of coffee. Just like with the XP Deus/ORX and some of the Nokta Makro intermediate level detectors, the ground that I thought was hunted out literally came alive with tons of targets, even good targets and those places keep producing (not referring to just recently dropped stuff) good quality targets.

I completely understand where you are coming from CmonNow. I agree with GBA's quote: When I was bitten by the detecting fever, it hit me hard, and I had money to invest. I quickly jumped from the ATpro to the Etrac to the CTX within a span of months. I'm not proud of it... and knowing what I know now... I realize my novice approach and urge to get "something bigger and better" was not making me a better detectorist... just equipped with more expensive gear, and the same novice detector I was at day 1. I was spending a lot of initial detecting hours on the ground... but not learning the machine hours... more like covering ground hours. My finds were mostly surface clad and a few lucky finds that had nothing to do with my ability, just got the coil over a shallow target. Most of that time was on the CTX, since I skipped and jumped through the other detectors pretty quickly to the "better" model. And there is no doubt, the CTX is a phenomenal machine, but so are the ATPro and the Etrac in their own right. I spent time setting up my tone bins to target the silver, and the nickels, and expanded that for park gold (and trash), but I never really connected with the 5 tones... it always felt like the tones were bouncing all over and I couldn't get a read on it from a tonal standpoint... but the ctx target trace was tremendous, I just never spent the time to really learn what it was telling me. Frustrated with my lack of success in old coins and relics while hunting old ground (and honestly, watching the various forums and you tube videos of hunts that were yielding old coins all over the place), I decided to do more research on how to detect - back to square one (and a hard NW winter helped make me take the time). I be-friended a couple of experienced detectorists in my area, and started to really learn how they approach detecting... and that is by spending a lot of time with whatever detector you have and learn what it is telling me At that same time I found a used Explorer SE Pro so while the other machines were sitting in the corner of my office, I went back in time a bit and dedicated to the SE Pro. I found that the tone bin issue was resolved with the SE pro by the multi tone setup... and that beautiful "warble" you can't get in tone bin setups. Honestly had I spent more time with the CTX in 50 tone, I think I would have started connecting with it more, but one of my regrets is trading the CTX straight across for a pristine ATX... wanting a PI for the difficult mineralized ground in the NW, specifically in swimming holes, lakes and the occasional beach hunting. I'm not sorry I picked up the ATX, it is also a great machine (with some drawbacks due to the weight and bulkiness of the military style housing), but I do wish I wouldn't have let go of the CTX (or the Etrac for that matter). Anyway, about that time I also ran across the DetectorProspector site and the incredible knowledge that Steve and the rest of the group share on here. I have learned so much while on this site, I can't even begin to express. And there is (rarely) a flame war that breaks out... so that is so much different than all the rest of the sites. I really commend Steve for maintaining a true detectorists forum here. Then... came the release of the Equinox. Oh the HYPE!!! As soon as I could get my hands on one... It replaced my Explorer as my daily detector. And back to GBA's comment, I don't know exactly how many hours I have with it, but well over a thousand of "in the wild" hunting. And a lot of that time is testing settings and covering the same ground time and time again... learning the machine... and finding new targets every time I go based on a tweak here and a tweak there... and that has become the true joy of detecting for me... learning how to detect, opposed to trying to "buy skill". And one other thing that helped me learn the art of detecting.... I have spent a fair amount of time using beep and dig machines to remove that tendency let the machine discriminate for me. And honestly, those machines are just as powerful as the "new tech" just less bells and whistles. Some of me coolest finds have been either with a Tesoro Vaquero, or park hunting with the ATX (and I have to tell you... you learn patience hunting a park with a PI :)). Of course, I will be anxiously awaiting the next releases from Minelab, and will no doubt upgrade when they do... but in my opinion, you are leaving nothing on the table by using the Equinox. And I should add, this isn't an ad for Minelab, while I don't have experiences with some other great detector lines, the same is most definitely true for them. I am convinced it is more about the person swinging and understanding what the machine is telling him/her. None of that probably helps your search, but I thought I would share the "trap" I found myself in at the beginning as a cautionary tale 🙂 Best of luck and I am looking forward to hearing about your choice of machine, and your hunting experiences and finds. ~Tim.

Well, I finally made it to my favorite pebble beach for a decent 2 hours hunt and thought I should share my results! I intented to hunt only the dry part to make some practice in these aluminum junk targets that make me suffer, but the huge amount of trush between the pebbles nightmare and the fact that the water was so calm and without swimmers, I very soon decided to give it a first try underwater in waste depth while snorkeling with my mask. It was my first time with Nox underwater so I was really nervous to see if it leaks but everything went fine and really enjoyed it 🙂 In my very first underwater hunting, I didn't messed a lot with settings but made some minor adjustments..I was running beach 2 mode in 2 tones (set all VDI >0 to pitch 23 with max volume in order to hear it underwater, since I was using only the control box' speaker while snorkeling with my mask.) I also notched out only -9 to -7 to get rid of ceramic rocks and some ground noise and set iron (-6 to 0) to low volume. Reactivity was left at default 6 and Iron Bias (F2) setting also @6. Sensitivity @18 and GB at tracking mode since I didn't have enough time to experiment with auto-pumping. Well...as expected, ZERO JUNK UNDERWATER!!! No aluminum, no foil, no iron.....only good targets. In these 2 hours, I managed to get 30+ (!!!) early clad coins (drachmas of 90s...nothing special unfortunatelly and very corroded too), also found a HUGE amount of lead sinkers, and also found my first gold ring with nox (!!!)...so pretty happy with my first underwater experience!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Ring is marked 14k with 7 little rocks and came at a rock-solid vdi of 11 from all directions. Almost all targets where really shallow (the specific beach has a pretty solid bottom - no soft sand at all so staff don't settle very deep I guess....I suppose that's the reason I could easilly find these old drachmas of 90s in no more than 3-4'' deep). However, I do have a question regarding iron bias: is there any reason to run iron bias at zero (f2=0) while underwater in salty conditions? Does iron bias could make me miss thin chains/earrings or other difficult or very deep targets if no iron is present to mask them? Iron masking and junk doesn't seem to be an issue underwater in my beache, so I left it at f2=6 (I prefer F2 over fe) since it was my first underwater hunt and thought that maybe higher iron bias would help to eliminate some chatter from deep salt & underwater minerals...what's your usual Iron Bias setting while underwater in salt? Any pros/cons or tips regarding iron bias while underwater? best, Argyris
