  1. Hopefully this Fix will allow me non-delayed hunting. Not beautiful,... but functions. Took out the bottom pin on the shaft leaving the top, seems to be the weak link area. Cut a 5.5 inch (14cm) piece of 25 x 23mm Carbon fiber, slid it over the weak area with about a 2mm space between the shaft and the carbon fiber..... Cut slots on both sides so the CF tube goes all the way to the bottom. Sealed the bottom of the CF tube, and poured a 2 part 24 hour dry epoxy into the void. Let that dry for a few hours then started pouring the epoxy down the top of the shaft to fill the hollow area in the lower clevis insert. I'm sure i added some weight with all of the epoxy added but maybe a good thing. Hope to find out this week, planning my first (real hunt) Thursday with the AQ since my accident in Jan..., Interesting, I am sure the slow dry epoxy filled in the area where I took the lower pin out. I had filled the void and did not give it much time to dry when I started to fill the main shaft with epoxy.. I soon noticed it was forcing out the epoxy in the void so I stopped and gave it enough time to firm up, then continue. I'm not sure where the inter was leaking thru to the outer. Unless it was coming out the pin holes where I pulled both earlier. I never pulled the clevis joint to see if it was solid, but it is now.

  2. I recently went out to a very trashy local park to test out the new Colitek 10x5" coil with my Equinox. This park has been heavily detected and has high mineralization mixed with tons of ferrous and non ferrous trash. I had also covered it pretty thoroughly with the 11" & 15" coils since last year and figured it was pretty hunted out. The new coil proved me wrong and provided many unexpected targets. It also went deep. In my area we can't dig plugs so anything over 8" is out of reach and I left many deep signals behind, but what I found in reach really surprised me, including my second 14K White Gold ring! I guess nowhere is ever truly hunted out. 🙂

  3. Sadly, there was no choice today but to hunt a really infested area, littered with aluminum and tons of new sand brought by the Harbor's arm shape and the last prevailed wind too... I was in a so and so Mood, between the idea to leave at the first trouble and go back home before the 9.am empty handed cause of bathers already there😑. I realized with all that horrible hump, to go way farther and to straightly use the tank, at least to avoid the fuc....g murky water on the shore...30 minutes later, after only three holes....hereunder the conclusion... RAW footage, Sorry

  4. After having the Orx for less than a day, fiddling with settings and making the mistake of setting disc to 0 which turns out to be the iron tone break point. I set everything back to the factory settings (disc at 7) and made a custom setting of coin fast with reactivity at 2.5, and 15khz which is the lowest I can go and have it play nice with my pinpointer. I hit the river nearby for a little over an our and machine handled the high iron area very well. I didn't bother with any of the gold modes as the constant target hits of junk would drive ya mad. Made that mistake before with my MK and Gold Racer in all metal. Nothing really old other than the tiny knob but I didn't dig too much trash either given the area. Having a fair number of hours on the Gold Racer and high frequency machine helped a lot as I knew sort of what numbers to pay attention to. Anyone not used to having a high frequency machine may consider the x-35 coil instead, probably much easier in trashy areas.

  5. After the good results using the new Coiltek 10x5" coil at an iron infested ghost town a few weeks ago, I decided to take it out to one of my hard hit trashy parks and see how it would perform. I've pounded this park with my 11" and 15" coils and thought that it's been thoroughly covered by plenty of detectorists in recent months, so I wanted to see if there was anything left. Since we can't dig plugs in my local parks, I usually just pop targets 8" or shallower. I thought that the Coiltek wouldn't go as deep as the stock 11" in my highly mineralized and fertilized parks so depth wouldn't matter much. Boy was I wrong on all counts! I decided to just run the stock Park 2 setting ( with iron volume turned down to 4 ) until I got a feel for how the new coil would perfom in the modern trash at "party park" as I call it because of all the bottle caps, ring pulls, pull tabs, and foil, not to mention tons of old iron trash from fill material in the fairly modern park. I ran with "all metal" horshoe mode turned on most of the time and was surprised at how well targets popped through the iron background chatter. Sometimes I would just get a squeak of a higher tone, but when I shifted my sweep 90° it would lock on and stay locked on. I was getting good target hits from well below 8" and couldn't dig them, but I pulled quite a bit out from the 4-7" range inluding the 14K white gold ring in the photo. Another pleasant surprise was that I could cover the same park area with the 10x5" coil in about the same amount of time as the 11" coil. The 10x5" won't replace the 11", but in my opinion, the Coiltek is definitely a winner.

  6. CTX 3030 for $1200 USD? I say hell yes. I recently purchased one and couldn't be happier! I'm still very much an absolute beginner on it and have virtually no understanding of anything with it yet 🙂 I took it to my old sports field I've hammered with various detectors and found 14 silvers in a couple of hours. This was using the stock 11" coil, I didn't even try my big 17" sucker on it yet, I have done some testing with the larger coil and in my soil the depth is noticeably better too so I have high hopes for that coil. My sports field is relatively iron junk free so really it's just a case of sorting the trash which is mostly pull tabs, zippers, football boot spikes and bottle tops from the coins. I found in the Default coin mode it was a pretty poor performer, I copied that to a new profile and changed a couple of settings and deep coins are showing that do not show in the default coin mode. I'm so new to the CTX I can't even remember what the settings were but I could find out by firing it up I guess. I also noticed in the manual it states not to use the ground balance unless your soil requires it, mine doesn't so I assume doing it is detrimental to performance? I'm very happy with the CTX purchase. I can live with the current price, the build quality is very nice and feels terribly light compared to the GPZ I'm used to swinging so the weight of it doesn't bother me at all. I'm contemplating buying a smaller coil for it, I just don't know if it's worth it as I guess for the trashy areas I'd be better off using the Equinox, switching to the best tool for the job at hand. In the wide open relatively junk free areas a slower than my usual swing with the CTX appears to be paying dividends.

  7. Thanks Gerry for the very kind words. Unfortunately the old age crap is beginning to catch up on us, more my wife than me. We still enjoy the friendly competition when we are nugget hunting or coin/relic hunting. In fact she has found a gold coin and I'm still looking for my first. This coming July we will be celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary and I wouldn't change anything if I had to do all over again. I'm very blessed and we have many memories of great finds, adventures and friends.

  8. Most of Serious Detecting’s current used detector adds have photos of the coils with the coil covers off. The epoxied areas are showing some “white” areas which are from poor photography and are not actual white areas on the coils. The Equinox, X Terra and E-trac coil photos all have these “white” areas from the photo flash or from a reflection/lighting problem. If you are interested in one of those detectors and still have doubts, ask them a question. Personally, you can’t beat Minelab‘s current brand new Equinox 600 deal with the free ML80 Bluetooth headphones. Some of the US dealers have that bundled package for the normal $649 regular price. With the three year warranty and free $100+ headphones, that deal beats any used 600 that sells for US $500 or more.

  9. I went out to what may be my last visit to my silver beach before opening day. It is a lot busier with preparations going on for Memorial Day, but If I am lucky, I may sneak in one more visit. I only need a couple more silvers to make 200. Lucky my wife went along as the heat was starting to get to me. It was nice to have someone be able to go back to the car and take some of the heavy targets and bring me back drinks. Hunted from around 8:30 to 3:30. I was toast after that. I started out again looking for low conductors and on my second hole I found the 10K Class ring. Hopefully, an easy return since the full name was engraved in the ring. Because of that I ended up digging a lot more iron than I wanted to. I was not planning on clearing areas of iron, but finding the ring made me change my plans. I did not get a lot of good targets this time around by clearing iron. Almost all of the silver found was not near any iron. Weather definitely played a part in how fast I dug targets. Full sun all day and hotter than they said it would be, probably around 70, with almost no breeze. So that beach still has good targets for me, but much harder to get in quantity. I guess I will be doing parks or cellar holes on my days off from now on. Time to put away the GPX and pull out the Equinox and learn some new tricks for the parks.

  10. Congrats on your CTX Simon...I usually use auto ground balance 3 plus and keep it there...the ctx will false on big iron a lot if you go into manual GB and turn the sens up too much. I just trust the machine to adjust itself as the engineers designed it to. My preference for trashy areas in the ctx and not the Nox so your comment about the nox being better is a little surprising. Findmall used to have some settings that you could down load and I have them on my machine and use them exclusively....I have not been able to find them but they still may be there. strick

  11. Wish you were making all those videos like you used to I remember you saying that the guy quit doing it for you because Minelab would not compensate or something? I used to commercial fish in Alaska for many years and one day I woke up early at crack of dawn and stumbled out on to the deck of the boat to find my boss mushing his poop on the gunwale of the boat...apparently he had swallowed one of his gold teeth the night before having his dinner and wanted it back...I hope you never have to do something like that Gerry 😄 strick

  13. You bring up a very good point on the dinks with a 7000 as I have done the same. The new 6000 is showing to be even more sensitive to smaller gold. As I have stated before, I'm not much into dinks anymore for the most part (I'll do it when I get my 6000, just to see how well it does and for my own knowledge of knowing the 6000's capabilities), but I do want to see how it does on my invisible specimens. I do think it will perform better than the 7000 on those pieces and that interests me as many of my pieces have over a 1/4 oz of gold, a few over a 1/2 oz and a couple over an oz of the heavy yellow metal. Just mind boggling to witness a higher end detector not seeing that much gold. As for the exact little dinks with a 6000, that's not my priority why I am getting one, but the 2 pounds less in weight most certainly is. For my customers though, I'm totally happy the 6000 will find smaller gold than the 7000, as I feel there will be some fun times ahead at the old patches. Thanks for your input.

  14. I really like the 9x5, but frankly it is hard to come to any solid conclusions regarding performance in this situation since you never recovered the target nor provided information on how both machines were set up. Likely big, rusting iron or a buried pipe/wire based on your description - perhaps high falsing ferrous with a halo. Regarding the comparison with the 11", were you both running the same settings, especially sensitivity, disc, frequency, reactivity/silencer, etc? Otherwise, you are really not comparing apples to apples. What were your settings and the soil conditions? Did you ever get an ID once you got down a foot? 9x5 has better depth than you would expect, but not a foot plus (at least not for a coin sized target in normal dirt) and it generally is not going to go deeper than the 11" under identical conditions and settings. It might outperform the 11" on shallower micro targets, though.

  15. Thought I'd share this cool little inverter I just got. Some of you may already have it but I thought it would be good for those that have not seen this yet. It's really small and hopefully will work for field applications. I already charged my CTX battery and module with it with. IIf you have lots of Milwaukee tools like I do already it's a no brainer to get one of these as I have about five different batteries that I could bring along on a extended trip. I dont know how well it's going to work so I'll have to up date later on. If you have one already then let us know.

  16. I have now had a chance of using this coil on farmland for several continuous days. For such a large coil I am really surprised in its ability to pick up tiny targets. It is a great coin hunter for both hammered and milled. My only problem at the moment, because the fields are very stoney making target retrieval hard work. It's hard work to get down 5" or 6", and it's just a whole lot harder when in excess of 10"... It took me 20 minutes to dig an 18" deep hole. By the end of the day I was exhausted and although no great finds came up I was very happy with my haul and the coils performance.

  19. Rob A - The last time I planned a trip for VLF pickers, grabbed one, put on a small coil and chased specs was at least 10 yrs ago. Sure I help customers find tiny gold at Rye Patch with their VLF's, but that's not really for me anymore to find those. Heck, I'd rather leave them for the customers to find and let them have the excitement like I had years ago when I 1st started chasing gold. To be honest, I even get board chasing .1 and .2 grammers with GPZ-7000, when I know there are a few 2 grammers near by. Yes I go each Fall to RP to get my 1 ounce of NNV nuggets with my 7, as that's been kind of a ritual the last few yrs. Rye Patch has a special place in my heart and I know the gold gods will provide me, but I also know there's bigger gold down the road. To me, gold nugget hunting, it's kind of like the steps in life and after a while, my desires change and I prefer hunting bigger. Maybe the way I am wired, as I used to hunt big game and fish that way as well. Bigger is better and I don't need to kill, catch, or find small gold just to know I'm going home with meat/Au. Maybe I'm more of a "about the hunt and adventure" at my stage of MD'ing career. Thanks for your input. Norvic - I really enjoy meeting small groups of like minded folks and detecting, learning, sharing and camaraderie. Glad you enjoy the same. Tony - Thinking big is perfectly fine with me. Now the term "big" means different things to people and or even me on different hunts. Sometimes I'm all about trying to find any gold at all if it's a new site, but like you, I don't grab a small coiled VLF either. Those older PI's are power punchers on depth of bigger gold. Thanks for bringing back memories of those good ol golden days. Below pics, Me back approx 20 yrs ago swinging the new 20" round on a GP-Extreme. That's a 30" long pick and if I'm not mistaken the 3 gram nugget was near 20" deep. Klunker- Not really comparing big gold to small gold, just asked the style of the nugget hunters here on DP. I'll pass the little stuff all day long to go home with a nice 3 grammer or specimen with 4 grams of gold. I've realized I quit chasing specs a few years back. Neither answer is right or wrong to each person as I'm happy if you are happy. At the end, it all pays for the beer. Thanks for the input and see you down the road... hopefully with big gold.

  21. Headphones seem to be ok now. Took me the longest time to get them to pair at first but could have been emi which is really bad in my house. If the update was only for the headphones then I'll skip it. I snagged this because I wanted a super light machine to putter around parks and woods, my elbow is starting to give me problems from slothing around with bigger machines. So far it's a fun little machine, certainly fits what I got it for.
    3 points
  22. Yup, I think they've pulled the update for some reason, perhaps it was causing issues as people put it on units that didn't need it. Probably some sort of compatibility problem between a certain batch of headphones and the detector. This update 0.1.1 corrects the loss of pairing between some ORX remotes and the WSA wireless headset. Only apply this update if your previously connected WS Audio headphones will not pair when you turn on your remote and headset. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LyWp3qLytskz6jTGUZWgvMDNzqf8Bu83/view Don't install it unless you need it, you're meant to contact them via email and they see if you need it or not before giving it to you.

  23. I hit this same park before with the 6" coil in some smaller dense trash areas and found my first gold ring there last year after missing it with the 11" coil. I don't know if the Coiltek has better seperation because the 11" has excellent seperation, but I think the narrower width helps alot with reducing target clutter under the coil, allowing more focused target search. I experienced that last month at an iron riddled ghost town hunt. The 11" was detecting everything under the coil, but there were so many targets that I couldn't differentiate the target sounds in my head, it was just too much noise. When I switched to the 10x5" at least half that clutter seemed to disappear as I was able to focus in on the good targets better. So I think the Coiltek's strong point is it allows laser precision focusing of the targets under the coil and allows you (or at least me) to better differentiate the sounds in your head, while allowing a larger sweep range than the 6" coil.

  24. Have you (or anyone reading) considered asking the grateful owner for possible permissions to detect? Seems like that would be a nice non-monetary reward. It's impressive that you're able to hunt so many hours in difficult weather conditions. (I'm recalling your sub-freezing hunts from this past winter.) And with a heavy detector on top of it. You definitely earn your loot. Have you pulled the dates and mintmarks off those silver coins? The Standing Liberty Quarter looks promising. I'm sure you (but maybe not everyone here) know how often those lost their dates to wear.

  25. The old Minelab Marketing people saw a need for quality videos and yes my video guy has a small contract with them. We would do educational videos and have Minelab review it before release. It was good for my video guy for a couple yrs. Then this new Minelab came in and starting cutting things left and right. They canned my video guy and I was informed "they get plenty of free video mentions from happy customers". Yea, I have some bad habits of tossing finds in my mouth. I about tossed a nugget in my mouth from this pic above, but then realized what I was digging next to. Just to the right is a dried pie. At least it was dried though. BTW, Did you boat mate ever recover his gold tooth?

  26. One of my Field Staff, - Lunk will be down in AZ this winter and I'm sure I'll get down there for at least 1 trip. He's not only dialed in the best Settings a variety of detectors to find Meteorites, he has spent countless hours and days in the field researching sites. A few of our customers from past - will visit AZ in the winter and schedule back to back training through me, and I connect you with Lunk. 1st day is learning the detector to find gold (at a different site down the road) and then the 2nd day is to learn how to set detector for those elusive Meteorites on some sites that still produce. Having that space rock sitting on your mantel with your other purchased gems will easily be the most memorable. Good luck down road and be sure think positive.

  28. My 'failure' in the category was to add rare earths to a shop sweeper like this: https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Sweeper-Telescoping-Release-Extension/dp/B08MTHGVWG/ref=sr_1_11?crid=2PJNJUBLFSLUL&dchild=1&keywords=shop+magnet+sweeper&qid=1621834875&sprefix=shop+magnet%2Caps%2C975&sr=8-11 I wanted to use it in a known meteorite field on the edge of a dry lake. It was a complete failure because the meteorites were sticking too hard to the surface.

  29. Yeah, it is just their recent posts for "slightly used" 600's and 800's. Strange. I agree that the current 600 deal with the wireless headphones is very tempting but I'm really hoping to move into the 21st century and get an 800, replace both the 20+ year old Sovereign XS-2 at the beach and the V-SAT for gold (well not completely into the 21st century, much to my children's dismay I still use a flip phone).

  33. Weren't we informed the 6000's were already boxed up and shipped to the US some time ago? Can't be manufacturing problems if so. I'm confused why even if there is a shipping port delay, why they couldn't just dropship individual pre-paid machines direct from Australia via air. I know international air cargo is getting through with minimal delay from Asia, my packages have spent 1 day or less in customs.

  36. Hopefully this won't sound too propeller-head but, hey, data is data! I guess the data in the video would show that (all other parameters being equal) detection depth follows something close to a weight to the inverse sixth power rule. That's the theory I got courtesy of MineLab and what my own checks seem to indicate. I confess that once I get a good signal I'm in too much of a hurry to dig it to measure the depth correctly but, yes, about 100% <6"! But I do have all the weights and the other issue that bugs me is "have I got everything?". Found this post from Aussie on the subject. https://www.gold-prospecting-wa.com/gold-nugget-distribution.html Long story short, plot your nugget patch data as a log-probability plot (Google will tell you how to do it in Excel). If you get a straight(ish) line you've got everything. Ideally you need about 30 nuggets! My star patch below is KW2 with close to a hundred nuggets (don't get excited that's only about an ounce and a half) and it's an alluvial terrace, no question. The plot is pretty straight. I have two 3-4 gram oddball nuggets that don't fit at the top end but the way the tail lifts below log -2 told me I'm missing small stuff. Put the 6" coil on the GB2 and started to find small stuff where I'd made 2-3 passes with the 10" coil.

  38. Do you have to pair the headphones on every bootup? If not, you don't have the issue. I have 1.0 too (actually it displays at "0.1"), no issues. I think the update was actually labeled 0 1.1 was for a few limited units IIRC and it probably doesn't change the ver number displayed on bootup. If you are really that worried about the update and registration, contact the XP service center at: Detector Electronics Corp. 23 Turnpike Road Southboro, MA 01772 508-460-6244 HTH

  39. The only ORX “update” I remember was for fixing a pairing issue between the controller and headphones. All new ORXs should have 1.1 software update. I don’t know of any other update. My Deus on 18kHz and from what I can remember the ORX which is ID normalized also at 18 kHz, read wheats and pre 1982 Memorials at 90/91/92 and clad quarters at 95 and rarely 94 or 96. Those numbers are for surface to 4” or so depending on mineralization. Those numbers may go up slightly for deeper targets.

  40. A few weeks ago, I was with a family of long times friends in NV in search of gold. While walking the high desert, seeing the variety of wild flowers in the spring, was very earthy at that moment as nobody for miles, no cars, no phones/computers and no buildings sirens and other disturbances. Just me, my friends over the other hill and the wildflowers. It was a beautiful earthly experience. Then when we got back to camp that night, the friendships made around a good meal was priceless.

  41. If you look at ALL of Serious Detecting’s used detectors selling on EBay USA, you will see similar issues with all of their current Minelab black coil photos. I think there are at least five listings. Unless they got all five detectors from one person on a trade-in who applied some kind of really weird coating to random areas of those coils............Nah

  42. The nugget depth in the video above is very similar to my finds. Most were found with an old 7" by 14" Elliptical "Nugget Finder mono coil." As for the weight of 1 ounce plus it has been mixed ½ near the surface, the rest on the limit of the large coils. The largest was "16 ounce of gold in a hundred ounce specimen". The larger nuggets all up was less than a ¼ of the weight on the sub 1 ounce nuggets. I hope those that are new to the game find the information helpful, and take in the fact that flogged ground that the nuggets will be small or specimen and very deep for it size with a very small chance of getting a missed larger nugget missed by those that know what they were doing.

  44. Thanks. If it works out that they respond back to me on the ring, I will let you know. I'm not one for getting their pictures or a video of the return. I would be happy with a quiet return. Just glad she gets her ring back. More and more beaches here are restricting detecting during operational hours. Same with pets on the beach. That's what the off season is reserved for. Usually they turn a blind eye after the life guards go home for the day. They probably won't bother the water guys either. But for me, not in the water, going there late afternoon is not worth it because of the travel time. I'm have zero time doing parks with the Equinox, so I will be sticking with the 11" coil until I find a decent program for it. I'll switch to the big coil once I get the hang of it. The 6" coil will probably be reserved for cellar holes and not parks, at least for now. My wife is a Saint 😄

  45. Took almost 3 years of swinging to get my first, bought mountains of books, geology, history. then in 81 I fluked a virgin patch, in those days there was very few revealed patches the country was mainly detecting virgin country. That first patch taught me I had to get to know how to use these new fangled electronic devices, Bounty Hunter RB7, I got a wee consistent considering I had the answers now and then I finally scored a dealer that had a Garret A2B in stock, in those days the demand was many times the supply, and dealers were 1000s of ks away. The A2B was the beginning for small gold which then and today is the bread and butter, regardless what you hear about OZ to me the great majority of weight in gold is those 3gram down to what you call dinks, subgrammers. Through VLF to ML PIs that as Gerry found got us back to the large deeper pieces, big mean picks/bars. Through all that to the GPS/moving map become almost as important a tool as the detector, geology and history, the patches that knowledge/research lead to have mostly been found through to today. We are the first generations to have the most efficient method man has had of loaming for gold, the importance of knowing how to use this and GPS/moving map software out in the field cannot be overstated eg. I have this piece of ground for 40 years I considered had to have surface gold, no mines within ks, no alluvial workings for 10s of ks, no faults shown on a succession of geo maps over those years, but some surface "salt" & "pepper" where the depth was little, run all detectors over it whenever a new more sensitive detector was in hand over those 40 plus years until the 6000 a couple of weeks ago. Well it got amongst those dinks at depth the Z couldn`t on a nearby virgin Z patch, and again I headed to that 40 year old "no gold" patch, the 6000 has proven that there is gold there, only subgrammers but at depth over a now proven flat that has gold in an area 500m x 100m and maybe more. Only two pieces have been close the rest have all been spread roughly 10m apart, tis as though it was mother natures chook yard and she just spread the feed/gold out by hand. As I name patches for recording, this patch I`ve called Placebo tis about 2ks from Hope Ridge a virgin patch the Z found but left deep dinks for the 6000. The GPS waypoints saved over the years has shown there is a line of patches some ks apart running along the same bearing. Placebo and Hope Ridge has perhaps removed the last set of blinkers I wore through my gold evolution, maybe and hopefully there are more surprises. Gold truly tis where tis, a lesson I fully appreciate now as I`ve stumbled onto these virgin patches well away from workings, way out in the fringes. Very few signals that aren`t gold, and yes I have had many missions that I returned from without gold and am continually getting more patience to accept these missions. Way back as stated in the first paragraph I reckoned I had the answers to this game now I know I don`t and that is why the challenge keeps us motivated keenly with this fever we have.

  46. As I am a coin and artefact hunter I don't generally use fine gold soil timings. However I do use Sharp and Sensitive Extra, and they work well with this coil. This coil is now my coil of choice with the GPX 5000. Probably the only times I will change is to an Anti Interference in the event of detecting near electric fences or under large power lines or a smaller coil if the site dictates it.

  47. Sounds like you have successfully diagnosed the problem yourself 👍 EMI is just about guaranteed to be the problem. Have you tried moving further away from the power source because if the problem is gone then you know for sure that EMI is the culprit. With the mono coil then the problem should be significantly worse.

  48. Demitar has been OUTSTANDING to me. Ive had a few issues, hes always helped solve um. The battery cap where it didnt turn on or would go off he helped me on. A little thicker washer and a not so tight screw solved it. Theres ALWAYS going to be repairs for us beach guys who use the machines a lot if we get um wet... and some with prolonged issues near the surf... thats just electronics. I like that Demitar wants to know how the machine is working and anything to do with repairs. Get-er fixed Thomas... recent drop time is coming fast with our water temps here being in the low 80s. At least ya go those Xcals. I sold 2 kept one of the moded blues and still have the Nox... thou im not sure why since i like those Xcals too. My Nox went south just before the warranty did with a bad battery and stress fractures in the screw holes.... ML replaced it.... but i dont think ive used it but a very few time since getting the MDT. Last repair with the Xcal... i had like 3 coils, all new or fairly new, had one of those cable issues... then found out ALL those coils i had stored the cables split.... ugh. I was lucky that Joe had one he put on for me. I honestly should sell them both and do what you did get a second MDT. But ya never know about the production AQ or a new flag ship ML... so i keep putting it off.

  49. Hey Guys, I think training on some units is important. I'm not a huge fan saying that training is essential or important on something like a Minelab Gold Monster 1000. This unit was originally designed to be used by people that couldn't even read/write, so it has to be super user friendly and easy to use. I think training on many detectors like the higher end PI's and such are important and will speed up your success, but also just as important is understanding where to prospect, what to look for and various "gold" indicators. Sometimes, this could be more important, being in the right spot where nuggets are, rather than being in a spot that don't have gold and being an expert user. To learn your detectors ins/outs in a parking lot or front of someone's house is not the same as a dealer taking you out to the goldfields, showing you the ground, the color of mineralization, types of hotrocks, geological indications and such. Many dealers advertise "Training," but it's what I call backyard training. It's not in the goldfields and really don't benefit you as much in my opinion. Another important factor on training which you should inquire about is - "How much one on one time do you actually get?" To go out with a dealer and there are a dozen other guys trying to get the same training is not the same as one on one in my opinion. I prefer to keep my groups smaller, allowing me and the customer to have more time together and for questions. Many dealers like Gerry and I also use multi field trainers, so you get a different view or perspective from other experienced users, rather than just one. Overall, some training is probably better than no training at all. Do your research and see what is the best fit for you. Some customers of mine have done training with other dealers along with myself to get even more information which could benefit them. Wishing you Golden success! Rob

  50. I work only with the dealers that the manufacturers say are their legitimate dealers. I recommend dealing with nobody but official dealers, period. Anyone that is not an official dealer authorized by the manufacturer, is selling the detectors against the manufacturers wishes, and more often than not are scammers and rip offs. If the price advertised is well under the manufactures minimum divertissement price, then the advertiser cannot be legitimate. Period. They are violating the manufacturer policy, and would be canceled. The fact they are still doing it screams counterfeit. If you want to know who legitimate dealers are, only trust the manufacturer, as they designate who is and is not legitimate. Referring to third party dealer listings is a road to disaster. They can be a starting point, but then you still have to check with the manufacturer to confirm the truth. Aliexpress and Alibaba are loaded with counterfeit product. eBay is not quite as bad, but still plenty of rip offs. Even Amazon to a lesser extent must be watched, as they offer goods from other parties, and scammers do exist. The only solution? Work with manufacturer sanctioned outlets. Anything else, use extreme caution. People do buy cheap counterfeits, then resell as used, and if caught “I did not know.” Buyer beware.
