  1. But not looking forward to the last 2. A Man's Age - as Determined by a Trip to Bunning's (Bunning's is an Aus. large retail hardware outlet.) You are in the middle of some kind of project around the house --. Mowing the lawn, putting in a new fence, painting the living room or whatever. You are hot and sweaty, covered in dust, lawn clippings, dirt or paint. You have your old work clothes on. You know the outfit -- shorts with the hole in the crotch, old T-shirt with a stain from who-knows-what and an old pair of tennis shoes. Right in the middle of this great home improvement project you realise you need to run to Bunnings to get something to help complete the job. Depending on your age you might do the following: In your 20's: Stop what you are doing. Shave, take a shower, blow dry your hair, brush your teeth, floss and put on clean clothes. Check yourself in the mirror and flex. Add a dab of your favourite cologne because you never know, you just might meet some hot chick while standing in the checkout lane. And you went to school with the pretty girl running the register. In your 30's: Stop what you are doing, put on clean shorts and shirt. Change shoes. You married the hot chick so no need for much else. Wash your hands and comb your hair. Check yourself in the mirror. Still got it. Add a shot of your favourite cologne to cover the smell. The cute girl running the register is the kid sister to someone you went to school with. In your 40's: Stop what you are doing. Put on a teeshirt that is long enough to cover the hole in the crotch of your shorts. Put on different shoes and a hat. Wash your hands. Your bottle of Brut Cologne is almost empty so you don't want to waste any of it on a trip to Bunnings Check yourself in the mirror and do more sucking in than flexing. The hot young thing running the register is your daughter's age and you feel weird thinking she is spicy. In your 50's: Stop what you are doing. Put on a hat; wipe the dirt off your hands onto your shirt. Change shoes because you don't want to get dog c**p in your new sports car. Check yourself in the mirror and you swear not to wear that shirt anymore because it makes you look fat. The Cutie running the register smiles when she sees you coming and you think you still have it. Then you remember the hat you have on is from Gunmart's Bait Bar and it says, 'I Got Worms.' In your 60's: Stop what you are doing. No need for a hat anymore. Hose the dog c**p off your shoes. The mirror was shattered when you were in your 50's. You hope you have underwear on so nothing hangs out the hole in your pants. The girl running the register may be cute, but you don't have your glasses on so you are not sure. In your 70's: Stop what you are doing. Wait to go to Bunnings until the Chemist has your prescriptions ready, too. Don't even notice the dog c**p on your shoes. The young thing at the register stares at you and you realise your balls are hanging out the hole in your crotch. In your 80's: Stop what you are doing. Start again. Then stop again. Now you remember you need to go to Bunnings. Go to K-Mart instead and wander around trying to think what it is you are looking for. Fart out loud and you think someone called out your name. You went to school with the old lady who greeted you at the front door. In your 90's & beyond: What's a bundings ? Something for my garden? Where am I ? Who am I ? Why am I reading this ? Did I post it ? Did you? Who farted ?

  2. I'm visiting family and went to a middle school track today where I found a 14k tiger pendant last year. Within the first 10 minutes there was a strong 11 on the Equinox. I didn't really have to dig because the ring was only down about 1/2" due to not sinking into the ground because the blacktop track was under the grass right at the edge of the inside lane. Didn't find much else besides coins after that. Might anyone have an idea what the stones might be?

  3. Some folk believe that their prayers are rewarded, others claim that if you ask the Universe for anything it’ll respond.. But when you need a new battery for your Foxy Noxy, these methods don't work anywhere near as good as keeping an eye out on Ebay.. Since that awful day last month when the battery on my Nox 800 stopped charging I’ve considered many options, including an external power-pack (expensive), soldering the plug-in cable to other lithium batteries (deadly), and to keep on swapping with the battery from my Nox 600 (pain in ass).. This afternoon I searched on Ebay and scored two new Equinox batteries for just $50 (plus $10 postage).. That’s a new battery for Foxy Noxy and a spare for the unlikely event I ever need another one! Gotta love them win/win days..

  5. I stumbled on the issue I had and being new to the machine I brought it to attention here thinking it was something I was doing wrong or missed a setting that would help. Knowing the capabilities of all my machines is key to know which works best and where. Every machine has their annoyances and limitations. I still use the Orx, find it a blast to use. If I am targeting a specific area that has more critical needs I have machines for those areas but for the most part the feather light machine makes detecting fun and the day enjoyable.

  6. UPDATE.....If you buy an out of warranty replacement pod, it will carry a 3-year warranty. If you buy the refurbished unit, it will carry a one year warranty. The batteries are $30 and can be purchased through either the repair center or your dealer. You do not have to send in the old battery, but she did recommend that the repair center do the replacement. It wasn't required, only recommended. You cannot buy a replacement pod without sending in a defective unit.

  7. HA! I can confess to being a little over pressurized in public spaces at sundry times in my past, to other's merriment and my embarrassment. I'm still trying to live down the un-expected outburst at the CPR/First-aid training event. HH Mike

  8. I’ve been on the waiting list with my local dealer for months now too, but like everything else I’ve been trying to get done it’s delayed. Oh well, just need to let it roll off the back because me stressing about it isn’t going to make it get here faster. But, I did get to hold one when Steve made a stop in town to talk about it and metal detecting in general. Aside from it being light, I was struck by how perfectly balanced it is with the 11 inch coil, and how compact it really gets. The 6000 is going to be perfect for the mountains and canyons I hike into.

I got fooled by the iron strap thingand one bottle cap . and its amazing how deep you can still hit those tabs and coins. but with a faint signal so i am very happy with the setti

  13. Well ,I sure don't have much to look forward to by the look of it. At least in my 50's I'll get a s sports car, although that was done in my 20's so maybe I'll end up with a Volvo instead. I'm not much of a car person though, I buy one and use it until it dies, it's probably the thing I care least about as to me it's just a mode of transport. I just hope in my detecting lifetime a PI comes out with accurate Target ID's, if it does I'll be satisfied. A PI CTX 3030 and I'd be satisfied. I'd like if it draws the outline of the target on the screen as you waive over it too with some sort of ground penetrating radar technology! The more swipes over it the more detailed the image becomes. Ahhhh, I can stop dreaming now, that can be my sports car in my 50's, a detector of my dreams.

  16. Glad you found some. See this post - in the USA at least no need to go combing through eBay in hopes of finding one. Just call ML support and they should be able to point you to the service center who will hook you up with a battery or you can contact your dealer. If outside the warranty period, the cost is $30 US and the service center will install it for you, if needed (though I suspect you may have to pay shipping if you send your detector in - I have asked the question) or you can opt to DIY. Eric - dunno if you attempted to contact ML support in Aus but it was something I suggested way back when you first posted about your issue. I know you bought the units second hand but that doesn't typically invalidate the 3-year warranty and as you can see, at least ML-USA provides a way to get your batteries even outside the warranty period.

  19. Because unlike ORX, with Deus you can detect with just the coil and the wireless phones with no need for the controller remote. The Deus wireless phones are more than just audio phones, they actually control the coil.

  20. Right, this one is a true classic, the counterfeiters in China have outdone themselves on this one. It's a cross breed of a GPZ, GPX, Digital Photo Frame, Mp3 Player, Movie Player, Ebook Reader and all metal gold prospecting metal detector all in one. You name it, it can do it. It comes with various colour schemes, one to suit every taste. The shaft looks like a cross between the GPZ and GPX. The Arm cuff looks like a GPX arm cuff somehow they've mounted on a GPZ body using wing nuts. The battery clips look like a decoration. The buttons are fancy, I wonder what identify mode is, maybe they've done a ZVT detector with Target ID's! My dream has come true. This boulder is sitting on Bedrock just above the main flow of the river so it could be loaded with Gold !!!! I worked the crevice around it and pulled out a couple pickers and a lot of lead so lets see what's under that boulder. Detectors used Minelab SDC 2300 and the White's Gold Master V-Sat . SG 040

  32. Well, I just sold my Deus 5.2 and kept the ORX , I needed money for a bike, the 5.2 has a lot more adjustments, that can probably make a difference in the field, but what i like about the orx is is just as deep as the deus , and very simple and capable , and i like the inexpensive headphones for the orx. Vs the deus ,which i cant seem to find headphones for less than 250.00 WTH. so the ORX has all the basics, and I am good with that , and i like the Gold 1 and all it can do ,so in the end its the ORX i did not sell

  33. The coils are manufactured in Australia and shipped world wide. New Zealand happens to be very close to Australia so the supply chain logistics delays are minimal. Add to that the fact that metal detecting is probably not as popular in New Zealand vs. the States and you can better understand why this dealer in NZ has plenty of coils to sell. dbs paid about $65 more than I paid from my normal MD equipment dealer. Considering where it is being shipped from, that’s not too bad. Anyway, here is the official statement from CoilTek: IMPORTANT UPDATE - Coiltek NOX COILS Since we launched the new NOX coils just 4 weeks ago on the 3rd of March 2021, we have received 1000’s orders for the product, and these orders are continuing to grow each day. We have never before experienced such demand for a Coiltek product. We are naturally delighted to have such a positive response to the NOX product and we are grateful for your support. However, due to this unprecedented worldwide demand and the various impacts of COVID-19, deliveries are taking longer than usual. Be assured, our worldwide distributors and dealers are doing the best they can and we are keeping in close contact with them. They are being updated regularly on availability and stock quantities. We at Coiltek have a great production team and we are working around the clock to supply. Our commitment to quality and providing you with the best product possible is and will continue to be at the forefront. Current delays can be up to 6-8 weeks. The best way to purchase a NOX coil is to contact your local Coiltek dealer and place an order. Again, thank you for your support and patience, we sincerely apologise for these delays. The Team at Coiltek I know, doesn’t make you feel better, but at least you know it’s not because CoilTek hates the USA.

  34. Hello All, I am the current owner of Sun Ray Detector Electronics. I normally am not one to post, Kind of lurker and read comments. I do take feedback from comments and try to match products to the need of our end user. This head phone was created to do to just that. The fact more manufactures are using 1/8 audio outputs is all across the spectrum. We also wanted something different other than a non-fitting adapter that normally don't hold up. We wanted 1 pair that will fit more/most detectorist needs. Thanks for the feedback, continued swinging. Joe DeMarco-Sun Ray Detector Electronics

  35. All good points, everyone has a different stand on how to reseve a spot in line. However, I think the situation is not that straight forward because dealers were told back in March that it would just be a few short weeks before the machines would come in. So, some started to take preorders and some customers already paid in full, based on their own choosing. This is not uncommon practice for a hot new item. But then all of the sudden the situation changed which was not forseable by anyone. So, the dealers are not to blame in my view. At least that is my understanding of what occured.

  36. I had a Deus first, decided I didn't need all the bells and whistles and got the ORX when it came out and really enjoyed using it for relics and especially gold prospecting. I too tried it at a saltwater beach on the southeast US coast. It did okay and I knew how to use the salt mode already. Eventually I missed the Deus and swapped the ORX for a new Deus controller and headphones. Oh well, truth be told, I love and hate these detectors almost simultaneously........not bashing XP either I just know from my experience it has not been love at first sight like it has with some other detectors which is mostly on me and not XP. I always had the same reaction to Algebra and Calculus but I learned to appreciate and enjoy them eventually.

  37. I've recently posted a few questions about my Orx that I hope are not being taken as bashing the Orx. I would say normally I mostly do beach detecting, then parks, then relic. I'd rather relic be first or second but It's hard to find places in my area. Right now I'm getting in some relic hunting on a jobsite we are on but that job is about to end. I agree with your relic comment, the Orx is working perfectly for me in that regards. I really hope I can master it in a park too but our parks a very trashy, have a feeling I'm going to find a truckload of foil, pulltabs, and bottlecaps with the Orx. (It sure does love foil). When I first acquired my Orx, I wasn't sure if I'd like it and keep it. After using it in a few situations, I'd only get rid of it if I switched to the Deus. Even then, I'd try and find a way to keep both.

  38. Conditions were pretty weak all this month, went out on several negative wet sand low tide hunts at a few spots. Started out the month with a small piece of 10k that looked like it was part of a gold nugget ring and also some grey crusted silver from an area that had a cut and some erosion.. Next peace of gold was the 10k nugget ear ring and a small silver peace ring found waaaay out in the negative low tide wet sand plateau, no doubt fresh drops, targets were few and far between at that beach. Next gold item was a tarnished 10k ring that looked like it had a pearl at one point since there is a post sticking out in the middle of the setting, also found some more dark crusty silver on that hunt from an area that had heavy black sand and steep wet sand slopes. The final hunt towards the end of May was a bit on the weak side, not many targets despite the high/low negative tides caused by the mega full moon. Pulled out a small 10k crucifix and was sure that was gonna be the last gold for the month, but as I was zig-zagging the wet sand on my way out I hit a screamer of a signal at the upper slope area, one scoop down, dump the sand and saw the outline of a ring, thought is was just silver at first sight but then I picked it up and noticed the weight, then noticed the hallmark.....Booyah! 18k/Plat Fred Goldman combo band! I was stoked! Called it quits and went home. Gold total for the month: 10k- 4.1 grams 18k/Plat - 11.5 grams Thanks for looking and GL out there!

  39. One of the things I like most about VLF's is their target ID's. I'm amazed with detectors being able to ID targets. Where I hunt I prefer to dig as few holes as possible so I heavily rely on Target ID's. My front yard is the most difficult place around my area for coin's to ID well, it has the EMI of my house nearby, the worst seems to come from my long range wireless router, I'm also abut 100 meters away from some high voltage power lines that carry power from the nearby windmills to the town. Once away from my front yard the results of this test do not change much, the ones that shine in this test are even better away from the EMI and the ones that struggle in this test while they do improve their overall performance ranking on Target ID's doesn't really change. What I've done with this video is tweaked the detectors the best I know how to handle the EMI with as high sensitivity that keeps them stable and gives their best hope of a good ID, some run fine maxed out in sensitivity while others needed high disc to operate. If I lowered the sensitivity anymore on the ones that are struggling with the EMI they would no longer detect the deeper of the two targets so I have to allow some EMI interference to get that deeper target. I've put white rocks on the grass where the two targets are located. The target on the left side is the deepest at about 8" while the right easier target is the same coin at about 6". They've been there around 2 years. Both are NZ $1 coins. 1 dollar coin specifications Alloy Diameter (mm) Weight (g) Edge thickness (mm) Edge treatment Aluminium-bronze 23 8.00 2.74 Intermittent milling Not all detectors are running equal coils, this is part of the equation of course on how well they perform. While the bigger coils get more depth and can accurately get ID's often better than the littler coils they do suffer more from EMI and also on the deeper target they're often more affected by the nail that is about 4" in front of the deeper of the two coins. The entire area of lawn is covered in roofing nails from when the roof was replaced some years ago. The roofers just throw nails down all over the place while removing the old roof. So this test wasn't to say some detectors are bad or good, it was just showing why I like certain detectors for hunting in my conditions around here, and why I think some excel over others in these conditions with the coils that I have for them. Each have the coil I find best out of the coils I own to suit this test. If I put smaller coils on some of the detectors they are unable to detect the deeper left target at all for example the 6" coil won't see the left target on the Nox at all. If I had to rank these detectors out of which will give me the best target ID's in the soils around here I would rank them as follows: #1 Vanquish so very close in performance to the CTX/Nox but just that tiny bit better as the Vanquish handles EMI the best. #2 Equinox / CTX 3030 are so close in performance I'd say they're about the same, although I have very limited CTX knowledge so far being very new to it. #3 Ace 300i (In this video it suffers the most from EMI but get it 100 meters away from my house and it shines with good depth and ID's ONLY with the Tornado coil giving it the #3 ranking) #4 Gold Bug Pro / Detech Ultimate combo, change back to any other coil I own and it's performance drops a bit. The AT Gold, and Teknetics T2 come in at the bottom, I'm not yet sure if the AT Gold is due to the smaller coil size or not, I only have that one coil for it, the T2 is a depth monster but it's ID's are poor by comparison I think, and the smaller coils on the Vanquish and Equinox easily give more accurate ID's on the shallower of the two targets than the AT Pro and even in the best conditions its ID's are nowhere near as accurate as some others when targets get deeper. Now please don't read into this in any way that I'm bagging out certain detectors or something, that's not my intention and while the T2 might be at the bottom perhaps in other conditions it might be on the top, I do not know. The AT Gold I only have the standard coil for so it's instantly at a disadvantage. What I'm doing is showing why I prefer the detectors that I do for the conditions I hunt in for my coin hunting where I rely on Target ID's for dig decisions. This video really shows why I like the Vanquish so much around here for coin hunts. I'm looking forward to learning more about the CTX it seems very promising and is doing well on silver coins in my local spots so far. Sorry for the Ace section, at 1:05 I switch to the deeper target, I was too close to the screen with the video so it is hard to tell when I switch targets, especially with the Ace giving similar ID performance on both targets. What stands out to me is I could tell a local person hunting in my area if they just wanted to find a bunch of coins and some rings or something without spending much money they could easily just buy a Vanquish or an Ace and do quite well, and not really be left miles behind over someone with something like a CTX, keeping in mind once you're away from my yard junk levels go down to next to nothing, iron junk is very rare in our parks and sports areas around here, with the main junk being bottle tops and pull tabs, and low value coins 🙂 Obviously this changes for people with very high trash or different soils or whatever variable makes it invalid.

  40. As you have experienced, the Vanquish 540 is a very well behaved detector, gets excellent depth and has excellent target IDs even on very deep coin sized targets. Absolutely smokes it on dry and wet saltwater beaches. As you have also experienced, the AT Max is a bit poorly behaved (but can be trained) detector that gets excellent depth (might go a little deeper than the Vanquish 540 but you won't get an ID or it will call whatever it is iron), has an outstanding, very hot All Metal mode and target IDs are good down to a depth that depends on your soil mineralization. So it is a chatterbox especially if it isn't ground balanced properly and if there is plenty of EMI. Its gain is definitely on steroids. The AT Gold is more tame but with excellent depth. In my opinion, Garrett took the AT Gold, not the AT Pro, and cranked it way up, added a few features that are missing on the AT Gold and lowered the frequency.

  43. I like to hunt ball fields if possible or schools (location, location, location). Generally there are fewer pulltabs than at a park. Because of fewer targets, there is a greater chance that the 13-15 numbers will be a gold ring. I have noticed that most of the women's rings I found have been in the 9-12 range with unwaivering numbers. When I get a strong signal in that range I get excited! Men's bands have been between 15-19 for me. As far as the Nox goes, I almost exclusively use the 15" coil. Is it nose-heavy? Yes! Does it cover a ton of ground and find good stuff? Yes! I have found far more gold in the turf with the 15" vs the 11" because that is what I use. I stick with Park 1, all metal, 50 tones, recovery at 7 so I can hear everything in the ground. I adjust sensitivity as needed, but I usually drop down to 17 in the mild FL Sandy soil so I don't have to dig really deep. The reason for that is because I can cover more area if I'm not digging a foot down. If I'm searching for silver coins, I lower the recovery speed to 5 and increase sensitivity.

  47. Chuck - my apologies that you got offended. Thought I put enough smiley faces in so you could see I was just trying to inject some levity. You asked the question above and you repeatedly complained in several posts that you felt the US was somehow being disrespected by Minelab/CoilTek as a result of this coil shortage. All I tried to do was provide perspective with levity and to give you a straightforward answer as to why CoilTek was struggling to deliver and why the NZ dealer had a leg up on the US dealers. He simply had a geographic advantage. I guess I should have thrown in some references to the Missus or to inappropriately clad chic beach detectorists from the Northeast so you could relate better to the humor. As a result I’ve since edited the post to make it boring and humorless so as not to offend anyone’s sensibilities. Once again, my apologies and I hope you have a great evening.

  48. About 8%, didn't worry about getting taken at all as all the dealers here have a very good reputation and besides, we know where they all live! 😉 But seriously, they are well known by many here, and they’ve been customer first whenever I needed help. I wouldn’t buy from anyone else.

  49. Understood, my reasoning was there is no known date, putting a deposit down saying it'll be here in 2 weeks for delivery to you or something I'd understand more than you'll get one someday and in that situation a deposit is very reasonable They don't even know how many they'll get so if they take too many deposits who knows when you'll get it? As described above they may get 2 detectors per dealer and take 25 deposits, that's not going to work too well so some people may wait 6 more months or more, who knows? It worked for you Matt, but maybe your same dealer had 20 other people paid deposits, and he had more deposits than detectors. Still first in gets it. The big issue is no delivery date and no security over numbers of detectors that they'll even get. Then what if you've put a deposit down with one of the big popular dealers and they get a delivery of 5 detectors, and you'd also put your name down with a few other dealers and some obscure little dealer gets a delivery for 5 also and only has 3 customers wanting on one so calls you up to say your 6000 has arrived, please deposit the coin and we'll ship it today. Then you've got the hassle of trying to get a refund from the other dealer that took your cash with no security on even being able to deliver the goods. Look at the situation with Coiltek Nox coils, the same thing...with many people waiting for many months to get one, and still none available, and then my smaller dealer here has them sitting in stock 🙂

  50. You can just buy it from the NZ Dealer, he ships overseas. These are what is left from his second batch, I got one from his first batch. https://www.dredgenz.co.nz/product/10x5-equinox-coil/ Works out about $212 USD + shipping. He's a really good guy too, he'd sort you out.
