  1. So, I managed to spend a few hours in the desert until the temperature hit >100 deg C, which was at around 10 am or so. Let me tell you, this machine is incredible. I charged both the battery and headset over night and paired it in the morning without a problem. I followed the manual and held the 11 inch coil steady over the ground while turning the machine on so it could do it's start up cycle. The first thing I noticed is how quickly the cycle completed which was less than 10 sec. It started in Auto 1/difficult which is the default setting. The first thing I did was to turn on the threshold (hold ground mode button for about 3 sec) followed by noise cancel/ quick track. The quick track is best done by first pumping the coil with QT button pressed and then swinging from side to side at the end, close over ground. This does a very good job in ground balancing. There was still some EMI noise remaining but it was manageable. Switching from difficult to normal did not make the EMI noticeably worse, this was a nice surprise. For most of the morning I was running in Auto 1/normal/ threshold-on without a problem. What I did however was a noise cancel fairly regularly as I moved along, probably every 10 min or so. I highly recommend everybody to do the noise cancel often during detecting, it can really make a big difference in keeping the EMI in check. One observation I made was that right after the completion of the noise cancel the threshold was rock stable, but after 5 sec or so the EMI noise slightly creeped back up (without any movement of the coil). Not sure why that is, but it was no big deal. Overall, the noise cancel works very well and allows to run the machine at higher sensitivity or Auto1. I was even able to detect in Auto 2/normal, something I would have never thought possible since this area is known to have EMI issues. The 11 inch coil is incredible sensitive and picks up very small targets at good depth (4-6 in) that would otherwise fall into surface GM territory. I now know why ML gave it a 5 star rating for small gold, it is just incredible what it can pick up. I do recommend that you turn off all electronic devices, like cell phone and GPS units, while using the machine. Just airplane mode on the cell phone won't do it. Also, metal free boots is really recommended as the coil hears everything, similarly to the 7000 when running in HY/Normal at high gain. The 11 mono works very well for pinpointing, with the max sensitivity somewhere around the 12 o clock position, where the ML sign is. But this is just my first impression. You don't need a pinpointer at all with the 11 inch. In fact, when you turn on your pinpointer an EMI concert starts that is so horrible that you never want to turn on a pinpointer again, ever. So don't even bother. This might become an issue though with the 17 inch coil when you dig deeper holes and a pinpointer would be needed. The 7000 you can turn away from the hole and using the pinpointer is then not too terrible, but with the 6000 this appears to be a bigger issue, at least with the 11 inch coil. But as I said, you don't need any pinpointer with this coil. I then played with the sensitivity and noticed that you can go all the way down to the first level without loosing much. The threshold becomes rock stable but you still hear small targets almost without any loss. This has been reported by others as well and I can absolutely confirm that. I suspect though that you take a hit with depth (something has to give...), but I need to experiment with it further. One thing that I can highly recommend is to pay close attention to coil control and speed. The 11 inch will miss targets when you swing to fast, so take your time. Slow steady swing speed will not only ensure that you pick up targets much better, it also overall seems to be of great benefit for managing ground mineralization and even EMI (for whatever reason). So, swing the 11 slowly and you will get the most of it. Overall, the 6000 is an incredible detector and all the reports by others who praised the 6000 are absolutely correct. It is almost like ML opened a new chapter for metal detecting. This detector is a quantum leap away from all other detectors that I have ever used thus far. It is light weight (with the 11 inch coil it feels easier than swinging a GM-I kid you not!), ergonomically designed to perfection, ultra sensitive while at the same time being easy to manage. I do not miss at all the settings that the 7000 offers and it almost gives you a good feeling to just run in Auto1 and let the smart electronics do all the work for you. It shifts the focus more on the ground and on your being in harmony with the detector, instead of constantly having to think about adjusting settings. Really, guys, this detector is outstanding and will blow your mind. After just one day of detecting I almost feel that I never want to swing any other detector again, ever. I am absolutely in love with this machine and I applaud ML for their unmatched ingenuity. I managed to pick up two small pickers in a heavily hunted area before a heat stroke was looming. Many more will come with this machine I have no doubt.

  2. At Rye Patch Nevada training customers and 15 minutes into it Lunk scores 1st gold. Yes we compared signal to GPZ-7000 and the 6000 heard it better. A trained ear on 7 could have heard it, but much easier on 6000.

  4. Been hitting the river a bit here tryin to catch the tides just right and beat the heat. Using pretty much zero mode with iron audio down low and MF handles the emi and gravel bets just fine can often run the machine flat out or just down a notch on sensitivity. Snagged a couple flat buttons and this 1797 large cent that isn't in half bad shape considering the area. Usually they are completely roasted.

  5. Steve, I recall a similar(?) hiatus you made a couple years ago and everyone stepped up to be on his/her best behavior. Is it too much to expect a similar experience this time? (That was said with my best rhetorical voice.) Your trip is well deserved. Just finishing up from 27 days away from home myself, I'll confirm that it clenses the mind and rearranges priorities. (I'm sure you know that.) I'd wish you success but I supsect that is a given, even if you don't bring back even a single picker. Kudos and gratitude to Chase for taking the wheel for booting the spammers.

  8. Just a FYI for people that I am taking an extended break for a long trip home to Alaska. Like many I was cooped up the entire last year, had things I wanted get derailed, and then a giant pile of stuff came up in the last few months. I've obviously been edgy and erratic in posting, and so I need to step away for a bit. Where I am going I really have no choice, and that is good. Chase Goldman is a very active participant who posts mostly on the coin and relic forums. He has graciously offered to help keep spammers at bay. Other than that, you all are great folks, I'm sure the forum will be fine. Might even take a turn for the better in my absence, so it will be interesting to see how it goes, and where you all take it. I'll still be around a for awhile, but will stay in the background, as I have to get everything totally dialed before I depart. You all have a great summer, get lots of gold.... see you later! Steve H P.S. thanks again Chase for helping enable my absence with no worries - sending good finds karma your way!!

  12. Finally looked at all of the 211 coins I dug at this campground. 58 quarters, oldest was 1979 50 dimes, oldest 1967 21 nickels, oldest 1964 82 pennies, oldest 1960. 20 1982 or older. Throwing out 17 of the pennies because they are too crusty or mangled. $21.20 in two and a quarter days! Actual time spent was about 14 hours. Sad there was no silver, but glad to have learned how to dig coins fast and deal with EMI, and got some tiny relics and jewelry, one possible gold item.

  13. Test Garrett ATX on 0.1 gram Gold 24K under IRON STONE.... I think it's a really good result ... ATX shows its qualities .. Setings :DISC3/SENSITIVITY 9/TRESHOLD12/VOLUME13-MAX/... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another video shows the measurement of the IRON STONE Mineralization value using the XP ORX detector ... as well as a magnet test. Iron Stone ...can easily fill in the highest level of the ORX mineralization indicator..and the magnet test confirms ....the high iron content... Iron stone is too hard a test for ORX ... which even after completion GB.... gives a false signal to this iron stone ... if you want to eliminate the false signal you have to reduce the sensitivity of ORX to 50 ..

Few seconds of a three hours session, otherwise useless dive between fresh foil at depth and heavier stuff way too far from shore...Ass hit for me this time...🀣🀣🀣 Enjoy! https://youtu.be/MRzcxk-AhVI

  17. Got mine today, at last. I put a spare GPZ cover on and tightened it with velcro (see pic). The cover is a bit big, but better than nothing. My first impression is that it is just incredibly easy to hold, from and ergonomic perspective truly fantastic. I does of course weigh more than the GM, but it almost does not seem that way. Of course this is old news as many have said before how well designed it is, but you really have to feel it for yourself to believe it. Tomorrow 5 am is testing (and learning) time in the AZ desert πŸ™‚

  21. We have a fellow prospector whose wife passed after several weeks of an undiagnosed autoimmune disorder. He lost his job during the pandemic and has a teenage daughter scheduled to attend Kent State University this fall. He lives in PA, but spends his vacation gold prospecting every year either here in NV or at my place in Yuma. Lucky Lundy frequently guides him around the goldfields to help make the best of his limited time out prospecting. He could use not only our thoughts and prayers, but a little financial help through a GoFundMe page established in his family's name. We prospectors can be a prickly lot, but we pull together for friends in need. Please help make this trying and sorrowful situation a little better. Here's the link: https://gofund.me/9c16aa5c Thanks in advance for all your help.

  24. True! I think I'm developing quite the distaste for digging Zincolns. My last run I was skipping 21/22's πŸ˜€ if I still had a boat I could cast 'em into replacement zincs. πŸ€” I now think I know how you feel after a day of retrieving 100 coins or so. 😡 It was about 1 coin every 4 minutes. Here it was shooting fish in a barrel, the areas were small and easy to cover. No one had ever used a detector there, and yes the park started in the late 70s. Total bonanza for modern coins. I'll be going back again, got a gathering field loaded with coins and possible relics near a very old house. There are other places like the lake I didn't go into, I had a cut on my foot. Too old to risk infection.

  25. Must be that they were dropped after the silver was pulled from circulation. So I'm thinking the late 80's early 90's was the start of them dropping coins there. Hey don't throw them mangled pennies out.... torture then by melting them and casting something with them. Zincolns deserve a cruel death πŸ˜„

  33. Good GB tuning and correct setting of the Disc level /These are 2 important settings/ on high mineralization .. with GARRET ATX it then allows to use a sufficiently high and stable detector setting - which is reflected in a good range ... ... ...other2 important settings... are Threshold and Volume.... ...The right combination of these 4 main settings ... you optimize the range and sensitivity of the detector ... on various difficult terrain ..

  35. I've noticed no ill effects from having the coil so close to the control box, nor the cable causing any issues, I have my cable tightly wrapped as far from the coil as I could along with a Velcro to hold it in place. I haven't noticed any sensitivity drop from having the metal near the coil, it still appears to work just as it would normally. I used a kids broomstick handle from the hardware shop which was only about $3 and I spray painted it black. It's been doing the job well, I have a webbing strap that I run through the handle that has a easy to unclip plastic clip on it so I hang the Monster over my shoulder on my back so it's easy to take off and use. I've taken that off and can't find it at the moment, it must be somewhere in among my gear πŸ™‚ I'm very happy with the Mini Monster, I originally got the idea from Norvic who did the first Mini Monster I'd seen. It's a great use for a detector I don't really use much anymore for anything else, and it's quick to put it back on the normal shaft if I ever want to.

  37. Yes, yours was from the second batch my dealer received, Only the very first batch had the problem. Shipping from NZ to USA went smoothly and quite quick for you The first batch I'm talking about appear to be a small very first batch Coiltek made, they only went to Australia and NZ it seems, all other's received a later batch where they'd made the hole the right size. I imagine the very first batch with the problem was quite a small batch. That's the punishment I get for being an early adopter I guess πŸ˜‰

  39. The bolt resisted a bit at first, but suddenly popped in. I didn't use any excessive force. Must be a tolerance thing. Read somewhere Coiltek is a sort of "garage band" company, I've worked for a few of those kind of manufacturers so it's no surprise. I noticed my serial number was not far off from another that it worked for. This coil is first batch, I jumped on an offer.

  40. Thanks! there are a lot of really experienced and technical folks here who post great stuff regarding this coil. I read almost all if not all of those posts, and thought an idiots' opinion might be an interesting read πŸ˜€ more feel oriented. I use my 600 almost every day, have since December. Being a retired 40 year technology veteran, I liked someone else's opinion that you should reset the machine with every coil change. The Equinox has lots of internal Magicks as evidenced by the long boot up time. Wouldn't want it to think it had some other coil and not perform its best. Reading that somewhere just made sense. I'm also a firm believer in making what I consider logical but uninformed statements so that I get my butt kicked by the pros. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. πŸ™‚

  41. It is a good coil, and I like it's sensitivity to small gold at the tip and tail, not near the depth of the 11" on coin size targets but you wouldn't expect it to be of course as it is a lot smaller of a coil. I'm pleased to hear they've fixed the coil bolt issue, my 10x5" is one of the first batch and the ML bolt does not fit it.

  43. SDC 2300 = simple to operate detector, that has a hardwired 8" coil. The GPX 5000 has over 100 coils available and tuning options to handle anything, but it is also much harder to master than SDC 2300. If you want simplicity, SDC is worth a look, though I would get the newer GPX 6000 personally, if you can afford it. The GPX 5000 still has far more coils and tuning options than the GPX 6000, and so is still a viable option for serious prospectors facing a wide range of conditions and terrain. I would tend to pass on the SDC 2300 at this point, unless waterproof or compact are top issues.

  44. And here was me thinking the 22" Concentric X-coil is a massive coil People looking skyward in Central NSW might think they've seen a UFO if they catch a glimpse of the state's newest mining tool. It's an Aerial Electro Magnetic array called the 'X-cite' - and the exciting part is it's finding gold way out west.

  45. I also agree that running in tracking ground balance for really wet beach/shallow surf in Beach 2 has been the quietest for me. However, I only run in Beach 2 with tracking ground balance when I absolutely have to. Otherwise, I stay in Beach 1 with either manual ground balance, zero or tracking ground balance until it becomes unstable. I get better overall depth in Beach 1 from my experience.

  47. Yes, really enjoying the CTX and currently looking into the Coiltek coils for it. The 14x9" Nox coil might be more popular with the water hunters, it seems it was specifically designed for that purpose with the extra weight being heavier than the 15" perhaps being beneficial for in the water? I'm not much of a water hunter, the waters too cold here for me to be flapping around in πŸ™‚

  48. I recently went out to a very trashy local park to test out the new Colitek 10x5" coil with my Equinox. This park has been heavily detected and has high mineralization mixed with tons of ferrous and non ferrous trash. I had also covered it pretty thoroughly with the 11" & 15" coils since last year and figured it was pretty hunted out. The new coil proved me wrong and provided many unexpected targets. It also went deep. In my area we can't dig plugs so anything over 8" is out of reach and I left many deep signals behind, but what I found in reach really surprised me, including my second 14K White Gold ring! I guess nowhere is ever truly hunted out. πŸ™‚

Those on Five Beach Bay are only accessible by boat or sea-kayak.. all the others you can get to on foot or some by 4WD tracks, the Radical Bay track got wiped out during the last wet season so now the best way in is from Horseshoe Bay through the national park..
