  1. Completely closing and restarting my browser (Safari) on my Mac's and doing the same on my iOS devices has usually "fixed" the issue temporarily until it re-occurs. I have had similar issues with several other websites that have similar formatting and may be coming from the same host. Otherwise, there is zero that Chase or the rest of us can do about this.

  2. For those of you hoping that Steve is having a great time in Alaska but are missing his input and support on this forum, you may be able to get your daily dose of Steve through these excellent Garrett 24k Gold Master videos on Garrett's site. For anyone new to VLF detector gold prospecting, these videos (mostly by Steve) are outstanding, keep it simple guides to basic detector prospecting and for using a very hot detector on hot ground. Go to the VIDEOS heading next to HOW TO BUY. https://garrett.com/garrett-goldmaster-24k-metal-detector

  5. Your Welcome!....I love both the Excal and AQ. Right now my main machine is the Excalibur, Problem is, my hunts are so far a part it keeps me out of touch with the conditions. I doubt if I've been out more then 10 times since May. I use the AQ as a PI and if you want it to work it's best you have to know what your walking into.. Here is my work on my AQ I got from Rick, warranty expires fall this year so I want to make sure the main controls are out of contact with the saltwater. Come winter this will be on the AQ.. And No one has every had any issues with the AQ flooding or leaking, I'm just installing some insurance.

  7. Steve knows better about this than I do, but it appears that the original Whites GoldMaster 24K has received some black plastic/paint, a little more weatherproofing, new labels and some nice rechargeable batteries. Otherwise, the internals seem to be the same. It looks great. Even though I would like to have had internal wireless added.....the Garrett Z-Lynk external transmitter and headphones system works very well with the 24K for those who don't want to be tethered. Whites made a great detector to begin with and Garrett has basically acknowledged that and left it "As Is".

  8. When you are not a regular at nugget detecting you forget things sometimes and that is what I did last night. I decided I had a few hours in the middle of the night to make my 3 hour drive to a nugget patch where I've found more than 100 nuggets. The problem has been the last 4 trips ... well ... I didn't add to the total. This trip was somewhat of a hasty decision as I also wanted to see some of the Perseid Meteor Shower. When I got about half way to my patch I realized I didn't have anything but my sandals. I had left my old boots and new boots sitting near the door. What can you do? I saw a Walmart but none of them are open all night any more or at least this one was closed at midnight. I went to the truck stop, then another, and another and back to the second one and got the only 'shoes' available! Now, that is hunting nuggets in style! It was about 2 AM by the time I got to the patch and got my gear on (I had everything else) and started walking in the last place I had found a nugget. A couple of hours later I took a break and no joy so far. The only thing I saw was a grey fox looking at me when I shined my flashlight on him. I looked to see the meteor shower and it was cloudy. So cloudy in fact that when the dawn came there was a little bit of rain. It was just about this time when I finally got one of those sounds you detect for. I tested in Bogenes settings and much less. I scraped and it was still in the hard pack! Yes ... it had to be a nugget. And sure enough it was down about 5 inches. I estimated my Find Point to be .2 g (actual weight .18g) so I was on the board. The heavens decided to celebrate with a sunrise and some rain and partial rainbows. I had spent 6 hours at this spot and it was time to move. Just as I was making the move I noticed a bird had landed near the car. It was a hawk and he was not afraid of the car for some reason. Best I could figure is that he wanted me to scare him up a mouse of something to eat. I got a picture of him. It was a good morning. I didn't get skunked. The desert is really beautiful.

  9. With the release of the GPX 6000 along with the Vanquish and Equinox, thought I would provide an updated summary of several known compatible Bluetooth APTX-LL headphones of various types, features, and price points for consideration thanks to other forum members (e.g., F350 Platinum) here who have played guinea pig and purchased/verified compatibility and performance: Avantree solid all around BT APTX-LL phones, over the ear type: https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Wireless-Headphones-Comfortable-Bluetooth/dp/B01A0EAYDI/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=Avantree+aptx&qid=1626912542&sr=8-8 If you want some decent light weight BT APTX-LL phones withe great "Soundblaster" quality audio, try these Creative phones on for size - occasionally they run flash sales on these and they can be had cheaper (note they are light but "on the ear" style which some may not like especially for long detecting sessions: https://www.amazon.com/Lightweight-B...6906692&sr=8-5 Decent over the ear BT APTX-LL phones as a less expensive alternative to the Avantrees above: https://www.amazon.com/AKSONIC-Bluet...6908685&sr=8-6 If you are interested in earbud style phones these two pairs of phones are comfortable, sweat resistant, and have great audio (I like the Glazata N9 neckband style, less stress on the interconnecting wire, but the Pawws are at an unbeatable price): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097B5V5M7...v_ov_lig_dp_it https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The following are a unique "convertible" torus neckband style that can be switched into local wearable "speaker" mode (the closeup soundstage sounds great even with "quiet" tones and is less annoying to others around you than running the speaker on your detector) or you can switch them into earbud mode for private listening too. Note that these are not water resistant. Cool but pricey. https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Wear...dp/B07Y56W9XQ/ If you are detecting near surf or in windy conditions the following BT APTX-LL phones are pricey (though the Pawws are 50% off right now) but have great audio PLUS active noise cancellation (so you can really hear faint audio tones) though they are not designed to get wet: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/Avantree-Blue...6907632&sr=8-4 Finally, these Quest detecting phones are purpose built for the Equinox (but compatible with any BT APTX-LL transmitter such as those built into the Vanquish 540 or GPX 6000) and are weather/water resistant (but not submersible) and pretty rugged for dirty, wet conditions, also with great BT APTX-LL audio: https://www.kellycodetectors.com/que...es-for-equinox Wireless is definitely the way to go with as long as you are not doing submerged water hunting, which necessitates waterproof wired phones. Pair the above with any of a number of diminutive BT APTX-LL transmitters or receiver/transmitters (e.g., https://www.amazon.com/TROND-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Headphones-Simultaneously/dp/B01B4W40VC/ref=sr_1_3?crid=32YIIDCD94VQX&dchild=1&keywords=trond+aptx+low+latency+transmitter&qid=1626913077&sprefix=Trond+aptx%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-3) and you have a cost effective wireless audio solution for any detector that uses a standard or mini headphone jack. HTH and Good Luck. Feel free to post any additional rekko's in the thread.

  17. A forum is very difficult to maintain, there are lots of plugins/subroutines that get updated and mess up the main system. The only fix would be time spent with the programmers/tech support. I would try clearing browser cache, that sort of thing. Thing is my cache is important to me. πŸ˜ƒ Thanks Chase, for what you are doing.

  18. Folks. I have been having intermittent site access issues, as well. I only have moderator admin rights to the forum to keep spammers at bay and to edit/move posts as appropriate and do not have access to server side controls. With Steve out of pocket, I can just hope that it self corrects. Things seem to have stabilized out for now (spoke too soon, lol). On behalf of Steve, I apologize for the issues. Your forum membership fees for the month will be prorated accordingly <jk>

  19. It has nothing to do with strain from the magnet. More likely, the cracks happened during the manufacturing process. They might have used a weak formula in the plastic. Then it cracked when it was stamped together. That's my guess.

  22. Hey Guys, Here is a short video of some nuggets we dug up on the first trip out with the Minelab GPX 6000. The detector is super lightweight, extremely sensitive to small targets and probably the easiest detector to set up and get detecting! Like always, we are here to help anyone with learning how to search for gold. We encourage all questions and comments, as we have a great passion for metal detecting for gold nuggets. Wishing you all the best of success out there! Rob

  23. My renewed effort to 'dig the bloody lot' keeps on yielding jewellery, sadly during the last few weeks it's all been fake bling-bling.. and also bucket load of dollar coins, both $1 and $2.. This is after a Covid lockdown when tourists were allowed back on the island.. it shows how dependent we are on tourists to drop their stuff for our beach hunting..

  24. Both my Wife and my sister have traveled with me to past Monte's W.T.H.O's. My sister had asked me for some of my Ghost Town found items and yesterday she presented me with a shadow box full of items found on these past outings. Now to figure out where to hang it. I'm thinking my gold mining / detecting themed office will be just the place. Just thought I'd share.

  27. Something that really helps.. Gel ear pads.. Video is 11 years old but will give a good idea. I use aquaseal to put on the one's I listed. These listed fit all head phones, not perfect but very close. Thanks to my good friend Patty for a women's point of view. There are many other types out there but I like the ones I have picture below the best. They last about 3 to 4 years with heavy hunting. And remember all of this info is at least 10 years old.

  29. Yep, you are both right although Gerry only gets half credit for hedging with a second choice. 😁 In Chris's ICMJ article I linked previously in this thread he points out that of the 250 million troy ounces recovered in Nevada so far, 220 million of those have occurred since 1980 when the Carlin deposits (microscopic gold requiring leaching, etc. methods) started being exploited via strip/surface mining. So prior to that what I call the 'obvious answer' -- California -- was in first place. (I don't know what year Nevada overtook California but it's way ahead now, by severals 10's of millions of ozt.) Now for placer gold there's no competition. California has produced more placer gold than the other 12 Western states (Alaska included in those 12) put together. AK is a distant second. Another surprise to me was how little placer gold has been recovered in Arizona given that from a metal detectorist's standpoint that may be the best producer these days. The article is very interesting as he goes over each state's major mining districts and includes some commentary on the different methods of recovery that have been used in those prime locations.

  30. Taking the high figure of 30,000 tons of gold would be nearly 1 billion ounces. With a population of nearly 8 billion if it was shared equally then we all would have an eighht of a ounce each (4 grams). Well at least I have more than my share.πŸ€‘
