  1. Hey All - I can confirm we will definitely be making coils and release will be in first half of 2022. Coiltek Quality - Fully Minelab Approved and no need to break a coil to make a coil. We will be releasing more info on this in the coming months. Stay safe everyone. Trevor.

  2. I never dreamed I would find a spot like I did today, turned out to be my best silver coin day ever!! I've been on a 6 day hunt starting last Wed and ending Tuesday morning when I head home. I've been hitting a couple parks in the town I'm staying in and a couple of surrounding towns as well. I managed to get into some producing spots and have done pretty well with multiple silver days everyday. Today, my plan was to drove over to a town about 60 miles from here and hit a pretty big park that's been around awhile. I got up early, grabbed some breakfast and hit the road. About 20 miles in, I figure out I forgot my phone, so, I head back to the motel. I decided to stay here and look for a new spot so I googled the town and saw a couple of parks and schools that I decided to go check out. Well, none were in older neighborhoods, so I headed to a park that had produced last year. As I'm driving over there, I see an old high school that's been renovated and drive around back and see a big open area with old backstops in each corner. I decided what the heck, might as well stop and swing awhile, maybe I'll get lucky and find a wheat or 2 I started out in front of one of the backstops and get a copper hit. The shovel slid easily into the ground and I pulled out a memorial. I move straight out towards the pitchers mound and get another penny signal. I go to dig a plug and the ground was hard as a rock, nothing but compacted rock and gravel. I take my pinpointer and scan the ground, thankfully I got a hit. I began to chisel my way thru the rocks and pop out a wheat, oh yes, it's on now. The next target was another wheat, again, within range of the pinpointer, out pops another wheat. Now I'm getting excited, within 5 minutes I have 2 wheats, that's good sign. The next 2 hits were funky signals and turned out to be mercs, both shallow and picked up by the pinpointer. Every swing of the coil sounded like a machine gun, 6-7 iron targets per swing. I'm in the middle of an iron infested spot, with compacted ground. I hunted for the next 30 minutes and ended up with 3 merc and 6 wheats, no clad, I'm only 45 minutes into this hunt and it's only 8:15 am, gonna be a long day lol. This old playground area is about 1 square block, so, I head off toward the other backstop and within 50 I get a hit. The ground is as soft as butter and out comes a clad dime. I hunted about 30-45 minutes at the other backstop and dug nothing but deep clad. I realized real quick that the spot I was in must have been avoided because of the rock hard ground and all the iron so I headed back. I decided to start grid off the area and see how far this hot spot goes. Turns out it's roughly a 60-70 foot area in front of the backstop. The soil outside of this spot is completely different and relatively trash free. I guess they dug out the original soil and missed this area, I have no idea. I hunted all day, started at 7:30 and called it quits at 5:45 when I quit digging keepers. I never thought I would stumble on a place like this just out of pure dumb luck. I'm glad I decided to stay in town. I ended up beating my single day silver coin finds of 13. Sorry for any grammar or punctuation errors, I'm celebrating with a couple of cold ones:)

  3. Puttered around on some old stomping grounds, further up from where I found the gold ring with yellow diamond and found an 1881 IH penny with heavy patina so won't bother to clean it and a thin what seems to be platinum ring. No stones in it and the casting and finish is a little rough so thinking it was a custom piece. Also found an old pewter spoon, was a little spread out in the hole but managed to find all the pieces. Never thought the Apex would do so well with jewelry as it does. Audio on it is so simple.

  4. Elliptical coils for me please, 6x 8 and 9x14. Rounds are great for open country, but around rocks and manzanita, ellipticals are the key to my success. I hope Coiltek follows Minelabs lead and constructs the coils with a hollow underside to keep weight down. Brian.

  5. Coiltek responded on this thread that they are indeed making GPX 6000 coils. I moved the post and all the ones that responded to a new thread. Please go thereto talk Coiltek, and stay on this thread for X Coil.

  6. Rogue saltwater wave - probably better off just looking for a good deal on a used one. I got my last DFX used, real clean, for $250, so I'd expect to pay $200 or less for a clean XLT.

  8. We had a 3 party hunt scheduled Condor, LuckyLarry and myself. I set sail East Bound and down on I-80 to Rye Patch from Reno. I texted the Boyz and received a text back from Condor that his Truck was sick and couldn’t make this trip! Well just meant more Rib Eyes on my dinner plate! LuckyLarry, was on his way from Elko to Rye Patch and the timing was perfect he followed me in to our camp site! Temperature Gauge was a solid 97 at the 3 O’Clock hour. Larry, hunted out here in the Hey Days of Rye Patch. He was just learning Gold Detecting back then and scored many nice nuggets! But, ended up being a Top Notch Relic Hunter. That’s how we met. We met on the Internet with me needing some old Relic’s ID. He was my go to guy to tell me the history of anything I’d dig up in the Goldfields of California. Of course, I avoided these extra trashy old camp sites and would pass the location to Larry for his Relic hunts when he traveled to California. We set up camp and hopped into my RZR Buggy into the heat to swing our 6000’s on my old patches. Finding left over nuggets that our older models missed, but the heat! Had to hit a 100 before some clouds moved in to cool things down! Them clouds had rain and in front of them was the wind. Headed back to Camp to beat the rain, as I left my Trucks Windows half open which was the way the wind and rain was blowing in. Made it back to camp wet Windows up with a gust of wind that had to be over 50 mph. Well early to bed with showers on and off and the next morning with more rain to heavy to detect in which gave us time to eat some cookies and for me to remember where some more old patches where at to swing on. Gone for 4-Days with 2 1/2 days of good detecting! We ended up with 20 Dinks each! Two Lucky 🍀 guys with plenty of smiles for our efforts fighting Mother Natures last blasts of Summer! I figure I’m now about 80% done with having the 6000 over our old patches in Rye Patch. I’m sure we left gold in the patches we hunted for further visits…never can get them all and every day is a different day! Until the next Hunt! LuckyLundy

  9. My votes are for 14” x 9”, and if at all possible, a 10” x 6”. If a big coil is in the offing, 18” round. All mono, though some may crave more DD selections also.

  10. For the last few months, I've been detecting with Atrex .. and .. I'm also testing ... But lately I've also used XP ORX, Equinox 800, AKA Signum, .. Rutus Alter71, Etrac ... and Whites for detection. Spectra Vision .., As part of a serious and direct comparison and .. however, I use a much larger number of detectors, especially to compare certain specific detection properties .... for different detectors .... I take the detector as a detection tool ... for various detection situations ... and in this case I put my trust and experience in a given model that may be the best in the given situation .. In the end, Rutus ATREX himself did not disappoint me at noon ... and he brought really nice finds ....ATREX ..software 1.0.2 whit Multifilter.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ps: Alain......Eliptical coil "HF" in ORX will be good for 2D separation..as also for work ... as well as good content in red hematite soil for low-conductivity targets ..

  15. Surely there must be an buyer's outlet for old astronaut suits???? That would solve everything....no modifications needed. From the pictures, you are half way there anyways. It would be nice to have something that you could never feel the cold no matter what the temperature of the water was. Also those rings are sweet looking. I'm gold-less so far for 2 hunts, so I get to stare at your gold to make me feel better. Nice hunt there Joe.

  16. Like my Excalibur's, every thing I use has been reworked for what I need them to do.. Unfortunately, the suit looks nothing like the factory's for I've changed everything from the boots up to the neck seal, I'm sure they would get a laugh out of what has been done to it. With what I have planned for the next Generation of my winter hunting suit, I should be able to hunt and be warm but just not as long.. Hoping I can push hunt time to 2 hours.. before I could hunt as long as I wanted. Here is the old drysuit setup. On the new winter drysuit, all will be the same except the boots..

  17. That time of the year again. While throwing more wood in the stove I noticed a break in the clouds and saw our first snow on the mountain...probably down to 5-5500'. days are already getting shorter so you'd best be getting out there if/when you can. Raining down low today so sidelined....

  18. I had another great day hitting a couple of different parks on my week long hunting trip. First park gave up 2 halves, 1 silver, 1 clad. The Walker was in the same hole as a wheat and a silver quarter. I found another silver dime, the Cracker Jack token and a couple of wheats and then the park went cold on me. I drove across town to another area and the first keeper was a silver ring followed by a Merc. Not much after that except for a wheat and some clad. I drove over to another little town to scope things out, turned out to be a bust. The town didn't even have a park it was so small. I headed back to the town I'm staying in and went to a park that I did very well at last July. Not 10 minutes in I get another silver quarter, followed by 3 wheats. On my last pass, I look ahead of me and see some folded green, a $20 bill lol. I'll be coming back to this park tomorrow and spend the day looking for the keepers I missed last time.

  19. Well, boohoo. I was going to suggest an Archimedes Principle specific gravity measurement which should fairly easily separate silver (/alloy) from platinum (/alloy). Much tougher to distinguish gold from platinum unless one alloy is a lot purer than the other. Maybe platinum jewelry is always very high content of platinum? Anyone know? Glad the Garrett Apex is working well for you. It needs some love after some of the reviews it got when it was released.

  20. The twisting of the shaft is annoying and I would consider an aftermarket correction. I hope one eventually comes to the market. On a side note, the 6000 light weight and technology rocks! Brian.

  23. Congrats on your best silver day ever! 👍🏼 Your hunt brings back quite a few great memories for me...I’ve hunted parks in my locale for years that produced silver days from the low teens to the mid twenties...even one park nearly 150 miles from me that produced a 31 silver day (my PB). All of these parks were just regular, old parks from the ‘20’s-40’s era, without any ground movement. Those days around me are long gone, unfortunately. I wish I could go on extended road trips like you do, but that’s not possible for me at the moment...maybe someday! Anyway, I’m rambling......Congrats again on your memorable hunt! HH, Dan - Raphis

  27. I was using the V8 coil in the video. I have to turn the sensitivity down at least halfway or more to get rid of most of the falsing. A smaller coil footprint and faster recovery help reduce the problem. If I try that with the V12 in relic mode, it is pretty much unusable in the "hot spots".
    2 points
  28. Does the Vanquish false like that with smaller coils? Seems like dropping the sensitivity way down might help reduce the high pitch target wrap but don't know. People often don't mention the Simplex for new users, I have seen it in action and it looks like an easy and very capable machine. Also the Apex which has been doing incredibly well for me in tough areas.

  30. I'll compare and contrast the AT Max and Equinox 800 based on the fact that I currently use an AT Max and used to have a Vanquish 540 and Equinox 600. The only reason(s) to get a Garrett AT Max over the Equiunox 800 is b/c one or more of the following applies to you: 1. You love Garrett products and have extreme loyalty to them. 2. You love buying products made in the USA. 3. You prefer your metal detector to use replaceable batteries and/or AA batteries 4. You prefer an S-shaft design (although the Equinox pod can be mounted on an S-shaft if you really wanted, but it looks very janky, in my opinion). 5. You need a truly reliable, all-weather metal detector. Yes, the Equinox is waterproof, but it's not as reliable as te AT Max in that regard. 6. You can find the AT Max for much cheaper than the Equinox 800. 7. You like the idea of having access to numerous aftermarket coils and experimenting with them. 8. You don't plan on doing any extensive saltwater beach hunting. TL;DR: Unless you have a very specific or unique reason for getting the AT Max, you're better off with the Equinox 800 (ignoring the price difference).

  31. Thanks for that! Just checked mine and it was loose as hell, I mean REALLY loose! That alone could very well be the culprit that's been messing with my sanity............. Almost forgot.... My initial question about early mornings might be worse as far as emi goes? Watched this vid today from Bill S. and towards the end he seems to believe something similar? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG5nOwNwqAw

  33. thanks for all the positive comments and wishes everyone - very much appreciate and we are excited too. Sizes and shapes will be released later but I am sure it will make most of you happy 🙂 I can appreciate your comment Ridge Runner but i can assure you we are not the only ones with delays for products and we are catching up very nicely. As a consumer myself I can relate - my Whiskey delivery is taking ages to come and I cant wait to try it out. My favorite for the older units is always the 14x9" Elliptical. Just such a nice sized coil Trev

  36. I thought it was silver but it isn't. Did another acid test and shows as 10k so it's white gold. Gold will pass the platinum acid test I guess. So White gold. Not a high end piece as there is some sanding marks on the inside where it wasn't polished enough so probably some new or small maker and probably sent the master to a casting house that left the finishing to them. Just my theory and sticking to it.

  37. Hi Slavomir, With so many detectors I wonder how you manage to choose the right one before going detecting 🙂🙂... Btw what is your opinion about the Deus + elliptical HF coil ? I have just received one a few days ago ...
    1 point
  38. There is some falsing with the Apex , in the medium tones , but less than with a Vanquish . If I had to grade the 3 machines that I currently own I would say : 1. Deus - almost silent 2. Apex - some falsing in the mediums 3. Vanquish - a lot of falsing in the high tones This for my European conditions with mild soil / high iron trash
    1 point
  39. That's the biggest problem. The small flakes of rust can mimic highly mineralized ground coupled with what I can only assume is an inferior iron filter when compared to higher tier machines that lets more iron wrap/halo falses through. If you stick to the parks and beaches then the Vanquish almost rivals the Equinox performance.
    1 point
  40. Nice work, I would be celebrating also if I ever pulled off a day like that. Congrats
    1 point
  41. Maybe it's because there is no ground balance on the Vanquish detectors. The Equinox sensitivity doesn't have to be turned down that much.

  42. I would use a regular metal detector dealer. I used to use Newegg for computer parts but they aren't the same company now. Had a run in with them and a merchant that was selling product that wasn't in stock. Got worse when the product was drop shipped to another address after cancellation and Newegg kept bouncing me around to different service reps. Ultimately Paypal refunded me and went after them. Just really sloppy and too bad because they used to be a great source.

  43. Here's the problem: the people who know what this key-shaped pendant is are too young to be on this website forum. Well, those of you who have children (or more appropriate -- grandchildren) can ask them. Hope its silver. The other ring is nice looking and also probably a fairly recent drop since the gold plating is still intact.

  44. Personally I'd buy the Equinox 800, multi frequency machine with more features and more versatile. Both are good machines the Equinox is just the more modern machine that is overall a better unit.
    1 point
  45. You guys are all talking about machines for a beginning hunter assuming they are a hunter to begin with ! We take this for granted. But I degress to the beginning my friends... 2 months ago , I'm on the beach and here comes this woman and daughter with a Vanquish. She watched my for a few minutes on the beach slope digging coins , then I watched her. This gal was out of shape , obese. But kudos for trying. She could not physically walk and swing from side to side her detector ! Could only walk with the coil straight ahead , about 10" off the ground. I've never seen this before. My 4 minutes of helping her was not going to do anything. So , my advice to anyone starting out is to watch others , videos , etc. To see if you are even capable of metal detecting. I'm sure this was an anomaly but before you spend any $ on a detector , make sure you are physically capable 1st. There are injuries that most of us have had detecting , some serious...and most of us here know what were doing. But rookies.......

  46. You definitely put in a long day! And did a great job cleaning up the beach!😜 All "practice" finds, for better conditions!!😁 Funny you mentioned the "stink eye" you got! On my hunt above, I got the the "stink head shake" after waving at another hunter I gave a wide berth too!! That was a first!!🤣👍👍

  47. This is a super short video I just made showing how the Vanquish acts in heavy iron. It is a Kentucky colonial home site that I've beaten to death over the years with at least 8 detectors. I am always reluctant to recommend the Vanquish because of the iron falsing tendencies. I see new detectorists asking daily on FB groups about why they are getting constant high tones and not finding the perceived target. For parks/beaches it is stable and is an excellent value compared to the Equinox, but a new user will get disgusted pretty quickly if they start swinging in an iron infested site. This was a custom mode based on jewelry. All metal on (chirps even worse with discrimination on), low iron bias, and sensitivity 2 bars down. Please ignore the cow patties 😁

  48. Dan notice the difference between your coil stiffener and the one I have. Your slides over the ears but sits on top of the coil. The one I have slides over the ears and also straddles the coil. On yours all of the lateral force is directed to the ears themselves with some on the ziptie. On mine, the lateral force is shared with the ears and the coil body as my coil ear stiffener also slides down over the edge of the coil itself, not just the ears. Something to think about in the different designs of coil ear stiffeners.

  49. I did want to add, it might not be emi causing the instability but maybe the soil itself so decreasing the sensitivity may not decrease the usable depth of the machine. If I blast my Kruzer in some areas in certain modes it will chatter so much because it is detecting too much of the ground and very difficult to ground balance. I find it just too hard to follow targets good and bad and have polluted id #s as a result. Nudging the gain down the targets are easier to reveal. Before I had my beach machine I used to use my AT Pro and the salt would drive it crazy. I learned that pushing a machine to try to gain depth when it is beyond the machines ability in certain conditions can be counter productive. You could bury a few targets at different depths and see what might work better. Usually EMI is easy to overcome especially when you have a wide range of frequencies to choose from like the one you have.
    1 point
  50. Lower frequencies work better on deep silver but lower it is the harder it is to split out the iron. I do hunt in 5 khz on my Kruzer in Gen Mode (all metal) with a good deal of success but need to work slowly. Very gratifying when you pick out a dime below a big chunk of iron and watching VDI to see any # that is above the iron as an indicator of a masked object. Mid range 14khz works easier and little depth loss. Is there a lot of transformers causing the EMI? One spot I had been hitting has a generator running for a school on one side, nursing home across the street with it's generator, transformers on the 2 roads as it's on a corner and if that wasn't enough there is a nearby cell tower. My poor Tejon just flutters and is nearly unusable.
