  1. Each class is a little different based on the folks taking the class and for which detectors they are getting the training on. I've had classes were it was all PI's and GPZ's and if we am pushed for time, I may decide to not go into much detail about the VLF's. It really depends on the folks taking the class. Sometimes it's repeats and through discussion they want more knowledge about certain detectors or technologies. On most of the training, we do have a variety of detectors and technologies int he class and it's always fun showing a bunch of gold that a few detectors (even high dollar ones) can't see. Definitely wakes a few folks up when a $1500 rock is gleaming with gold and is heavier than many others, but a technology does not like that kind of gold. Bottom line and I tell this to everyone. If you have already invested in the big high dollar detector, it's much easier to step into a sub $1000 VLF to compliment the big dog. Even some of that nice gold from NV ore dump piles is missed with a few high end detectors. Why go on a prospecting trip for a week or 2 with 1 tool when you have been shown another tool can get different types of gold the big machine misses or the big machine can't see as deep as a VLF. Yes I have a few multi ounce specimens with ounces of gold and my VLF's will see them deeper than my big machines. I've said it many times and will say it again. If you detector does not beep on it, then you never know what you're missing, because you didn't find it. Yes a VLF (certain ones) will beep on all the gold I show. 2 yrs ago I found I think it was 14 specimens in an ore dump pile. I tested them with the GPZ-7000 and not one of them responded. Those 14 specimens were crushed, panned and smelted with a bar just shy of a troy ounce of gold. Moral of the story, is to always have a VLF gold detector and a big one for the heavy duty work.

  2. My intent was misinterpreted, so I clarified it in the Classifieds rules. New members will have to have made at least ten posts over a minimum of a 30 day period on the forums before being allowed to post in the Classifieds. The change was from “members” to “new members”. Frankly, I thought that would be a given. I had to make the original ten post over 30 day rule because people would join, make ten posts in a day, and place an ad. The change made them work a month to do it, and did put a stop to it. The intent of the Classifieds is simple. Provide genuine active members with a free venue to advertise. That’s it. But the internet being what it is, I’ve had to add all the BS to head off scammers. Anyone that’s been a member for years is welcome to post ads, even if they have not posted anything else in ages. I realize the original post is in jest, but the actual issue has come up before, so I figured good time to fix it. Thanks Norm. And good luck getting the disguise. Me, I think I’d just need the little mustache, as I’m half way there already.

  3. Hello there.... wanted to chime in here because you keep on bringing the name contest we did a few years ago. And I want members not to be misled with your comments. Now, first off, when we first said we were going to work on an SMF device, we never said when it would be released and that it was just a concept/project. We clearly referred to it as our FUTURE product. We held a naming contest of which the main purpose was to get people's input NOT on the name only BUT the features and specs! Anybody who applied and filled the form back then can confirm that! Second, R&D and engineering - if you are serious about it - may take years, if you didn't know. The only time we mentioned a release date on this product was November 19th 2021 at the launch and even then I said we are ''hoping'' to start shipments in December. Now, we never asked any END-USER to go ahead and purchase this product as we do not sell to end-users directly. Some dealers take orders and make the customers pay, some do not. This is a decision made by distributors/dealers and the end-users. We do NOT get involved in that at all. We as a manufacturer try our best to keep everybody informed and try to be as transparent as possible. And regardless of what people say, we will ship this product when all the updates are done as our priority is not to start making money earlier but to put the best unit possible in the customers' hands. People put down a lot more money on a car or many other electronics and wait for months to get it and I seriously do not see any manufacturer caring about end users and talking to them directly to give an update. It is seriously very disappointing when we try our best to communicate and interact and at the end hear so much complaint. Hope this clears it for the rest of the members who did not know about the background of this product and the naming contest. THANK YOU!

  5. On a beach sanded in due to replenishing. Mixed in with shells , bits of alum. Tabs etc. Banged in at a solid +06. Unmarked, stamped with Purdia on the inside. Shiny gold but slightly scored (maybe by being run threw the shell shaker). Anyway yellow underneath the gores. I'll have it tested when I get home in March. Maybe someone else found a ring by this company and can shed some light. Found on the Gulf Coast of Florida.

  6. NOTHING is wrong with the Beach modes......... First, the ground was moderately mineralized from looking at the mineralization meter in the lower left of the screen. Second the gentleman was swinging fairly haphazardly with lots of arc on the end of each swing and he often almost missed the targets. So, there is nothing wrong with the Beach programs that I can see. 10. Diving is maxed at 14 kHz, so not the best frequency for small gold under 1 gram depending on shape. This by the way, is where at least on paper, the Excal maxed at 26 kHz has the advantage on Deus 2 and its 14 kHz Diving program. Otherwise.......Deus 2 all day for most gold jewelry using Beach or Beach Sensitive. 11. Beach is maxed at 24 kHz. Definitely more sensitive than Diving at 14 kHz but still won't hit hard on sub gram sized gold. 12. Beach Sensitive is maxed at 40kHz. That will hit most small gold jewelry from 1 gram down to .1 gram that is near the surface and will scream on 1 gram and up gold jewelry. The other modes 1. Gen, 2. Sens, 3. Sens FT, 4. Fast, 8. Gold are all maxed at 40 kHz and will have no problem on .1 and bigger gold jewelry. Only the Gold mode hit that .05 piece really well.....VCO audio helped there. 9. Relic is maxed at 24 kHz which is okay. It will scream on small gold coins or 1 gram and up jewelry at relic sites. 5. Park is maxed at 24 kHz plus it has a default notch from 23 to 36.....right in the small gold range along with Bottle Cap reject set at 5 which may also mask small gold targets. So, default Park for small gold jewelry is highly iffy unless some settings are changed. 6. Deep High Conductor is maxed at 14 kHz.....not for gold basically 7. Deus Mono default at 17 kHz. Not the greatest small gold frequency. Deus Mono is not using XP's FMF technology. It is a throwback, holdover from Deus 1. Target IDs may up or down average a bit depending on selected frequency, on target size, conductivity and the level of ground mineralization. I will not be using that mode very much...... So, in my opinion the Deus 2 in its default settings performed about as expected on different sized gold targets laying on mineralized ground. For the modes that are optimized for gold (40kHz), the target IDs were consistent and so were the audio responses for each target.

  8. Hello Guys, I’m Riccardo and write from Italy. Have been following this forum since years and love it. Have had many detectors but unfortunately can’t do prospecting because in this area there are no nuggets. Have had pulse inductions as well and that’s why I discovered this forum. Thanks for the opportunity to write in this great forum and to learn. Bye for now guys! Riccardo

  9. I for one appreciate the directness of Nokta Makro in communicating with serious detectorist to field the best possible products, considering AND acting on realistic suggestions & updates on developments. Any one passionate about this should consider the introduction & evolution of the Simplex. The long thread on Tom Dankowski's forum about the field test development of the Impact should also be read & considered. Nokta Makro has shown in the past they are serious in meaning what they say. I'm looking forward to a very capable detector in The Legend. Facebook critics will not be out hunting with me.

  10. I actually remembered a story from a neighbor that grew up in the area I thought this crowd might appreciate. We were talking about how he came to live at his house facing park. He grew up in a different part of the neighborhood and used to walk to the park to swim. When he did that he would walk to pool barefoot as that saved him the dime for the locker for clothing. So, he would walk through grassy areas and streets that had grassy curb strips. His current house is on that route facing the park and he used to think that was where all the rich people lived. They really were and still are modest houses but he wanted to live there someday and now he does. Anyway, I thought that was pretty cool and also made me think about the kids that did bring that dime or other change and other things they may have dropped on grassy areas on way to the pool or other activities at the park. Like maybe that’s how that watch fob ended up there!

  11. With Apex they were trying to get their first shot at SMF out there while trying to hit a competitive price point. I am sure Garrett did not overlook making the Apex waterproof. I am certain it was a conscious design and cost decision while releasing a completely revamped and attractive detector form factor. There is no doubt in my mind that Garrett knew that if they reached for waterproof that it would push the price point closer to or beyond the Equinox 600 and they also probably knew in their heart of hearts that they did not have Equinox 600 level performance in Apex. By not making it waterproof they knew they would probably not take a big hit from the “Ace” fans (since no Ace is waterproof) while fielding a detector that was compelling enough for existing and prospective “Ace” fans to take the plunge. In the mean time they they are selling a popular new Garrett while buying time to refine the Garrett second gen SMF performance suitable for use in a future AT series (i.e., waterproof) SMF detector.

  12. We are in semi drought conditions here in Central Texas. I went back to the park that's been producing quite well. Today I focused on where the water would normally be under normal conditions. I ran my tone break right at 21 because the trash was almost unbearable. I may have left some nickels but I was able to pick up a few keepers. When I have more time and patience I'll go back and investigate the mid to lower tones.

  13. The snow is piling up in Western Pennsylvania and I am dreaming of my next beach trip. I really wish I was in New England tonight getting ready to hit the beach on Tuesday and Wednesday. The following picture are the rings that I found on my last week of April trip to the beach. The top ring is a stainless steel ring and the markings are the Viking alphabet. Middle rings right to left are .925 silver ring, 14k gold ring and a 14k gold ring. Bottom rings right to left are 14k gold band and a .925 silver ring with fake stones. Hopefully the beach will be fantastic for you guys next week and I hope you kill it.

  16. I completely agree with Gerry, spending time with someone well versed on finding nuggets with a detector is invaluable, you can read as much as you want and try learn as much as you want watching Youtube videos and the like but nothing, I repeat nothing beats real world experience out there with someone who knows what they're doing to guide you. I would pay for one of Gerry's classes in a heartbeat.

  18. I wish it was that simple but in reality it's not. Here is why I say so. When I chase big gold with the NOX, I set it up differently and I actually use a larger coil and swing/cover ground at a different pace. When chasing pickers, I use a smaller coil and fine tune the detector. Are you chasing bigger gold or tiny nuggets? If tiny ones, you should be doing a Manual Ground Balance and then locking the tracking (turning it off). Also run IRON Horseshoe OPEN. In reality a 3 day camping trip with like minded people and some detector experts will provide you more knowledge than you can learn on your own in a much faster time. No use wasting any more gas and vehicle wear and tear. Check out my website Calendar of Events for the 2022 Training Classes. If you are in AZ or Southern CA and want a 1 day 1 on 1, we can provide that for you as well. Yes it's a full day deal. www.gerrysdetectors.com Gerry in Idaho

  20. One last item about the Tarsacci that I really like is it's pinpoint ability. On the beach I would occasionally lose targets because of inaccurate pinpointing on the Nox. The hole would start collapsing and the target would sink and I had no idea which side of the hole the target was. I lost faith in the accuracy ot the Nox pinpointing. With the Tarsacci the pinpoint is accurate and my recovery rate is much higher. That means alot to me when you are trying to dig a target in the surf wash. I have not seen the target pinpoint feature demonstrated on the D2 yet.

  21. Welcome BH, Glad to have you here. I can tell you 2 things. One - You won't be disappointed and 2 - Your head might explode from information overload. This place is the best archive for gold detecting info on the planet. If you add up all the years some of these folks on our forum have been detecting/prospecting for gold it adds up to 1000's of years of experience. DP is all about shared information and stories that keep you going each and ever year. Best of luck and please post your finds along the way.

  22. How much 'more' will one of these detectors find than another? For those of you with test gardens I guess you can tell the difference. Thank you for your tests. When my beaches are producing (which has not been much lately) it is more important when and where you hunt than what detector you have at the time. I wait for wave energy to move things up on the shore or make cuts. Most of the good stuff is less than 15 inches deep. I occasionally find 20 inch cans and other stuff but the sand and waves defeat me on that before I can get it out. My rings and jewelry beaches produce quite well with the 15 inch coil it seems. Will one of these other detectors find stuff my Equinox will just not see? If I have a DII and an MDT and an Eq/15 which one do you use on the beach first and which one last? (I think I could not adjust to the MDT sound.)

  23. You could certainly be right. They sure screamed like silver, but they're not marked. We've had good success doing this at a mid-1800's stage stop, we're actually to the point that you have to clear brush if you want new dirt to detect. If I were wealthy I'd hire a landscaping crew to remove all the sagebrush under the guise of "fire protection" haha Thanks El. BTW according to my notes the tracker you ordered is the basic model, if you want to track Tom, you'll need to upgrade to the Deluxe model 🙂 Thank you, every high conductor there could be "the one" haha Love digging the earliest history we can reach. Thanks, it's nice to get a out a little. I've never found a button hook, maybe Tom has. Kind of surprising as I'm sure they were in high use, but maybe not in these early frontier sites. Given they mostly came in by ship, no stores or trading posts existed yet, they probably brought a minimal amount of necessities. I would envision those as a later western era industrial revolution era type of item (1880's+), but I've never found one hunting ghost towns before where it seems like something like this could be found. Neat find really. If you're going to dream, dream big! A coin like that would be awesome. It's funny, I forget the year, but the director or some other such employee at the San Francisco mint gave his daughter a barber dime at the Children's Playground at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, and she spent it on an ice cream. It was one of something like 15 known to exist type barber dimes, basically the holy grail of barber dimes. So who knows what's waiting to be dug up. I've been fortunate to dig two gold coins, and both were rare dates/mints, one's an example of less then 100 known to exist (according to PCGS). You gotta love that, that's what keeps us going in this hobby 🙂 The button is in pretty good shape. I cleaned it with Naval Jelly to remove the crud and then hit it w/lemon juice to clean up any remaining gold gilt. It came out pretty good, still a lot of gold gilt left on the front. Some sites out here have nice sandy loamy arid soil, and as long as there's not farming or animal pasturing going on, a lot of targets come out of the ground looking like they were just lost. We have an area like that where the targets mostly come out in beautiful condition, but down the road is a stage stop in a cattle pasture, been cattle there for over 100 years, silver coins tend to come out in poor condition.

  24. . . . where two guys wandered around the USA detecting relics and coins? They used Garrett's AT detectors I think back. They would locate/research historical homes and other locations of interest, then ask for permission to hunt. There was a different story every week I think. I always thought that historic wagon train trails would cough-up great finds. I would assume one could travel the same pathway, either by road or off-round, with proper research and planning. I would like watch those shows again. Billy

  25. “An amateur metal detectorist who discovered what is thought to be one of England's first gold coins could soon see a payday of nearly half a million dollars. The "Henry III gold penny," which was unearthed on farmland in Devon, in the country's southwest, was minted in about 1257 and depicts the former English king sitting on an ornate throne, holding an orb and scepter. It is one of only eight such coins known to exist, many of which are in museums.” Rest of the story here

  26. I would like to place an "item wanted" in the classified add section but it is requested that you have 10 posts within the last 30 days to use the classifieds. Well, there isn't much going on here in the Northern Sierras. The ground is mostly covered with snow, the Jeep is out back full of fallen leaves and ice and I haven't gotten Sourdough Scott into any trouble for a couple of months. So to make an interesting post I would have to cross that fuzzy grey line that squiggles between a good prospecting story and a blatant lie. So I'm going to try to sneak my "item wanted" add in here. Wanted; 1 plastic Groucho Marks. disguise. You know, The the one with the big bushy eyebrows, the oversized spectacles and huge nose with the push-broom mustache. Please contact Klunker. Thank you. This item is Detector Prospector related. We had a 1 million acre (yup, that's 1,000,000) fire burn through here last summer and it exposed unlimited shallow bedrock that would be perfect for detecting with a VLF detector so I bought one from a DP forum member (thanks John) but I don't want to get caught using a VLF detector for nugget hunting and loose my local status as Exalted Grand Wizard Poobah of Nugget Hunting by not using a PI detector. Thus the need for a disguise.

  27. Gold Catcher posted a week or so back about his trip to the El Paso mountains..a place I go to all the time. I have detected here in the past with a GPX5000 which I said wasted my gas, resources and worst of all TIME! I know a lot of people have had LOTS of success with that detector but I have witnessed with my own eyes a large(small potato size) specimen "sprinkled with gold NOT set off a GPX5000! I've been out with my EQ800 less than 6 times and have numerous "small" pieces of gold as well as a 4.3 gram nugget and a 1.71 ounce nugget just this past weekend. The larger nugget is a conglomerate and I plan to take it to one of my friends, Pat K. and have him fire up his 5000 to see what response he gets with it. Anyway, now I am enjoying prospecting again and I hope to be able to test out a GPX6000 next month in the same area.

  29. Thank you for your perspective, clearing that up and taking the time to reply to me Dilek, I had never seen this information you've mentioned in your reply before as my only source for information on the naming contest was information from this forum, at the time I wasn't using any other form of social media to get updates from and the last update you gave on it was here and the Nokta website never gave any indication of time frames either, nor did it on the naming contest page. This post above certainly gave me the impression the detector might be ready in 2020 or at the latest 2021 but I guess as there was no clear answer it was up to peoples imagination. I guess my point has been the naming contest was perhaps a bit early. This thread was my only source for information on this naming contest. It's easy to see by reading that thread how one could assume the detector isn't too far off, it was never mentioned that it was years away. Either way, I'm very glad that it is finally about to hit the market, and what a wonderful achievement for Nokta to cross the line with a detector that rivals or even exceeds the current market leader with the latest multi frequency technology, something many of the old established manufacturers couldn't achieve. I can imagine it was even harder to achieve with the competition putting patents on their method so even if that method was also invented by Nokta with no knowledge of their methods prior to discovering it couldn't be used. Fortunately my local dealer isn't the type to take peoples money without giving them a product, so his list is nothing more than a list of people interested. I was once on that list, now I'm off the list because I've decided to wait and see which of the two new detectors if any coming to market to incorporate into my current fleet if any of them add something I don't have but need. If you'd be so kind Dilek I have another question that's remained unanswered no matter how often I've asked it, is there anything on Nokta's end that has prevented Nel from making coils for the Simplex? I bought a Simplex largely due to Nel putting on their website they were making Simplex coils soon, it never happened so now it's a decoration in my cupboard. My decision on a Legend is largely around if I Nel and possibly Detech would be making coils for it, and if Nokta has done something to make this difficult or impossible to happen like the competition has done to their detectors then this would be a problem for me unless of course Nokta make a version of the coil I'd most need for it which is a solid epoxy filled 6.5x3.5" elliptical, the Nel Snake. I am also hoping you manage to get that Gold Prospecting PI to market that you've mentioned is in the pipeline here a few years ago. My fingers have been crossed so long on that one they're starting to hurt 🙂

Everyone does with what information they have to work with at the time, so some assumptions will have room to be made when all the facts aren't presented in a complete format, as you have now given us! Thanks for the summation, and we will all try and be more cognizant of what we all say!😁👍👍

  32. The Deus 2 even in its FMF 14 kHz diving mode and with salt sensitivity settings above 0, will actually hit a .35 gram nugget in an air test in bad EMI. Not bad at all. Great depth....not particularly but air testing SMFs for depth is kind of pointless. In EMI like that, it is impossible to really get a good idea of what Deus 2 on a .35 gram nugget in Gold Field or its other 40 kHz programs without threshold/reactivity adjustments will do. Add in iron mineralization..........who knows. EMI just cuts high gain SMF tech detectors like the Deus 2 and Equinox off at the knees sometimes when it is really bad.

  33. I still use the XL Pro, having used a 6000 series 2 in the past. The XL Pro is lighter, uses a better battery system and I suspect has more gain, more than GEB MAX mode which is not missed. The SAT mode allows better performance in mineralised ground and runs a smooth audio. I like to use SAT with a slow to medium sweep and the meter to disc. The option of disc with faster sweep speed and good depth is there when needed. The Pro has auto ground balance and runs smoothly under most conditions if you are an experienced user. Many folks prefer the older models manual ground balance. Lots of options which make for a very versatile machine. Ideal of sports grounds and open fields, in disc it loves a snappy swing and covers ground fast. You can also set it up for low and slow, again lots of control for different circumstances. Depth is very good, most of the mentioned machines match each other for depth. Ergonomics, balance and weight favour the XL Pro as does the battery tray for AA cells. That big meter is a joy to use and look at. Again performance or depth with the machines mentioned is near identical, swing what gives you the most pleasure or fun. That smooth audio hum is a thing of beauty, makes for a pleasant hunt. All the best.

  34. I was going to do some kind of comparison in the trash, I found a 65 dime (KR19 relatively deep in tree canopy trash area) with the Anfibio, and a 42 wheat with the Deus at the base of a tree, at different sites instead. You know. I have learned that the Deus and the Anfibio are in the same general class across park and field with Deus exceeding in processing speed and voice, and Anfibio exceeding in coverage opportunity, coil selection, and audio output attenuation control across tone, VCO, and notch in useful integers. There are iron and trash limitations with the Anfibio, but even mid level users are able to pull desirable targets consistently at live sites wherever they may roam. There are absolutely site conditions that limit the Deus coverage here but as a clever tradeoff it is very confident in the iron. Trailing the Deus behind the Anfibio at Site 6 provided an opportunity to further explore the benefits of Deus processing and vocals. The Anfibio seems to have done a good job of clearing out trash, and multiple silver from this trashiest site on my list. The Dues only picked a silver and a wheat, the Anfibio a subsequent wheat, and as if in a competition or something a quick silver bracelet just around the corner from there. I have no doubt that as I continue to learn the machines they will both continue to pull old coins. This site has a lot of subsurface trash and iron, along with conductive surface objects. The Anfibio overload signal here is normally due to large iron, a little different and less inhibiting than her overloading from sub surface flotillas of pull tabs and bottle caps in picnic areas and other similar conductivity scenarios. The iron at Site 6 that overloads the Anfibio is the same iron that the Deus just casually describes for you. Starting off metal detecting in earnest with the Anfibio was a learning experience, the Deus has given me feedback on what I learned, and the most important lesson of all I think is that these two machines genuinely complement each other in this part of the world.

  35. Watch fob is probably my favorite so far. Yes, hopefully more good finds to come! Looking forward to the spring. I’ve used them before but on this park I have been using the city GIS. Good reminder. I’ll have to try it and see if I find something different than GIS aerials. Older ones are pretty blurry. Park has changed over the years but I have done a little research on it and have a few areas of interest. The thing is I am trying to hit not so obvious areas as this park is frequented by detectorists hitting the obvious spots. So I din’t just move here to detect but it was one reason. I now don’t have to drive here! As I get to know neighbors and meet people, I’ll have to work in the request to detect their yards : ) It is an old neighborhood and hundreds of houses so it is a good place to be.

  40. It's only a delay as they made it a delay, that's been my point, revealing too much information and engaging too much with the customers hasn't worked out so well this time. It's also caused personal verbal attacks on Dilek where people have been outright mean which is just not acceptable. We seem to live in a world where people must have everything now, so when they announced it people wanted it in their hands, as time went by anger built people didn't have it. The good bit about this for Nokta is what company doesn't want people so desperately wanting their product they get angry they can't have it? I'm sure there was a lot learnt with this release and mistakes won't be repeated. For all we know the Deus 2 could have been delayed by a year or more, they only let us know it existed when it was a completed product ready to market, even then it had logistics delays but who doesn't now? We expect that 🙂 We are right at the pointy end of the Legend release now, and its great even at this point they're doing improvements, and with Nokta's track record there will be many more improvements to come after its release, not just fixes for bugs but more actual improvements. I just really hope Nel and or Detech end up being able to make coils for it, that's my decision maker.

  41. To leave wiggle room? Question for the lawyers, not me. It's complicated, because you also have implied warranties for stated use. And it actually varies by state in the U.S. Point being, it is their reputation on the line. That is your insurance, not some warranty. I've seen major companies flat out deny valid warranty just to boost the numbers for the quarter. It's as much about the quality of the company as the product, maybe more so. I've never seen anything to make me think XP is anything but a class act.

  42. Yea, and they made it an open coil damn it! There is always something 🙂 It may seem like I'm a bit down on the Gold Monster lately, I'm not, I really like it, it's a very effective detector, I just have other detectors I would rather use, it's no longer the one I'd reach for, it was replaced some time ago by my Equinox. The Gold Monster makes one hell of a pin pointer though. I wouldn't mind getting some sort of telescopic shaft for mine so I can use it as a pin pointer or full size detector without having to change shafts.

  43. The Equinox isn't a gold detector on their website because they still want to sell the Gold Monster which they probably have 10000 units of sitting in their warehouses and many more thousands on dealers shelves around the world. It's also a better money maker for them, cheaper to produce and far less warranty issues, if you drown your Gold Monster too bad, if your drown your Equinox they have to replace it. I don't think it's they don't know what the Equinox is capable of, they've seen all the photos and stories on Forums and other social media, they know exactly what the Equinox is doing on gold for people. It's no different to the rest of their Minelab Sales rule book, don't let one detector step into another detectors line. Do anything possible to keep them different to get the most sales of each model possible. As long as they don't pull a stunt of removing the gold modes of the Equinox 1000 so they can make their Gold Monster 2000 with Multi-IQ. Sure I'd likely buy both anyway but I'd be very upset if they removed the Gold Modes off the next Equinox.

  44. I’m not saying the MDT 8000 does not perform well on the beach, and it obviously makes some people very happy in that environment. I just think that it was a happy accident of design, kind of like Equinox and nugget detecting. Just my opinion. But not only does Tarsacci not sell waterproof headphones for the detector, they clearly state this on the website: “The MDT 8000 is IP68 rated. This means you can submerge the detector in the water up to 1.5m for up to 30 minutes.” If you are looking to actually submerge the detector, there is simply no comparison between 1.5 meters and 18 month warranty, or 60 meters and 5 years. I’ve long noted a reluctance in the part of those who sell the MDT to ever say why. People want to bend over backwards for the small guy putting out a detector as opposed to the big manufacturers. I get that. But I do think a lot of these machines get sold on the quiet with no explanation. It gives a false one sided view, and I’d feel like I’m being less than honest if I did not at least try and articulate what the other side is, since it's being asked for specifically on this thread. The MDT 8000 is very much a niche detector, that in my opinion will only truly suit small numbers of people. Somebody has to say it, and I guess I’m the guy. I’ll leave it there, take or leave it for what it’s worth.

  46. If the Deus 2 leaks like the Equinox, and XP does not back it without question, as Minelab has done, then you can kiss XPs reputation and D2 water sales goodbye. It’s really that simple, and XP knows it. All warranties have exclusions, and cover manufacturer defects in manufacturing, not wear and tear, or abuse. Anyone with doubts, sit it out. Wait a year for the dust to settle. Nobody here cares if you buy a Deus 2 now, or ever. At least I don’t.

  48. Watch the long term damage though of the arm/ shoulder. By the time you pass 50 it comes at you with full force. Someone once told me that when you are past 50 and wake up one morning without pain you are dead. GC
