  1. Folks might want to take a chill pill on this. I'll offer just one comment. Minelab has incurred considerable ongoing warranty costs as regards leakage issues with the Equinox. Not addressing these issues properly with Manticore, in effect being given a second chance at a known issue, would damn near be a firing offence for the engineers involved. Everyone makes mistakes, but the same one twice in a row? Put that into the calculator and chew on it a bit.

  3. It was his accurate description and a lot of luck that I descended straight above where he lost it.. I was very surprised as well, normally it takes a lot longer or I don't find anything at all.. It turned out good advertising as it's school holidays right now and there was a crowd watching me.. As I hate being a performing monkey, much to my horror he let everyone know what I was doing so the pressure was on.. I went down and nearly straight away came back up with his ring.. I made it look too easy.. A few people wanted to know what sort of metal detector it was, I'm sure PulseDive sales have skyrocketed overnight.. Nokta/Makro should pay me a huge commission for my sales effort.. 😁

  4. That's the problem when you mix hobbies with business, if you enjoy doing something it's hard to charge for it, it doesn't mean you shouldn't charge for it, it just makes it harder to justify taking the money. I would have taken the approach you did Erik, $50 is still decent because you got paid to do your hobby, now, on that does anyone want to pay me to go recover some pellets, I mean nuggets. I charge $100 an hour, you get half of everything I find 😜

  5. Today finishes 1 week of detecting. We're still detecting the same patch and getting some gold every day. There are literally hundreds of dig holes on this patch, so we're trying to concentrate on deeper zones with the Xcoil Concentric. I ran the big 17" just as hot as I could in High Yield/Difficult. Fortunately, the Concentric runs pretty quiet in the hotrocks, but it's still a lot of audio to endure. I burned out after 6 hrs, but it was the most productive day so far. The tiny nuggets were killing me with pinpointing and hole size so after I had the hole opened up, I started using the 6000 as a pinpointer. The nuggets we're chasing are just out of range for the 6000. 1 more day on this patch then off to greener pastures. We're going to leave gold to find gold I think. 2 days of photos, I'm closing in on half oz. Biggest 1.87 gram

  6. Yes, let's get back to the purpose of this forum... to post metal detecting information and ideas and discuss them rationally and without emotion. It is perfectly rational for Gigmaster to theorize about the cause of Equinox leaks as it pertains to his experience and his efforts to discover the cause. It is also logical to wonder if that problem might carry over to the M-Core because the charge port appears to be of the same design. It's also perfectly rational to post that video here, which was not intended to alarm and invoke people's emotional responses, but to open a dialog to discuss the possible ramifications to users who detect near and in the water. We will probably never know all of the reasons why some Nox units have leaked, but obviously some have. I still suspect a combination of sustained exposure to UV & high heat from the sun and saltwater which are all known to accelerate the degradation of plastics and rubber. However, it seems to me that M-Core has been made with obvious attempts to address the bulk of the complaints commonly posted about the Equinox, including the coil ears breakage, carbon fiber shaft, weight, control unit ergonomics, and arm cuff breakage, so it is logical to think that waterproofing would be addressed as well. However, we won't know anything about its water-tight characteristics until we seen it used in and under the water. So we'll just have to wait and see.

  7. It's been hard going in the ring recovery business for a while.. It hasn't helped that our local council has dumped about a metre of sand on top of the island's most productive beaches to counter erosion.. Despite the school holidays and a major surf lifesaving carnival last week, I'm only finding a few freshly dropped coins.. All this changed this morning when a gentleman contacted me on my ring recovery Facebook page with a very accurate description of where he lost his wedding ring.. Although I had to go for a scuba dive to recover it, the ring was exactly where he said he dropped it.. Using my trusty PulseDive it took about half a minute to find it.. He was a very happy fella and gave me a $50 reward.. Not too bad for less than a minute's work..

Hopefully you will find a big chunker that you can keep for your self. I might have to rename you the Detecting Monk for all the good that you do. Great story and recovery.

  10. Yesterday I decided to go to a field near a small town where I have already been a few times . The soil is sandy and moderately mineralized , it is very easy to dig here I like this area .. I will use always the same settings for the Deus2 , SENSITIVE 5 TONES , SQUARE audio . This is the best mode for my kind of hunting and I am experienced with it now .. First signal and first coin , a Double Tournois from Henri IIII , 1598 ... A good start .. A little corroded but a nice find. A few minutes later , an other old coin , but this one is both worn and damaged . But this is interesting because both coins have been found in a relatively small area and I decide to stay in this area instead of going further in the field like I did the previous times .. As usual I find 1st WW trash , schrappnells , bullets , casings etc ... Detecting over here requires patience because of all this modern trash . Now I have a medium tone clean signal , it takes a little time to locate the target because it is a thin one ... Wow its a silver , a very old silver , a Carolingian coin dating from the 9th century !!! . 😺✌️ 💥 🤣 Bad luck the coin is damaged and unfortunately breaks when I try to clean it . I am not surprised because these coins ( around 1,5g ) are very thin and fragile . Anyway what a find .. Awesome... I have only found 2 of them during 23 years of detection , this is my 3rd Carolingian coin 🙃👌... I like these coins , and it is difficult to imagine that this one has been waiting during 1200 years before bringing back to life ... I will spend one more hour in the field , with more classical finds but nothing as spectacular as this silver coin. Btw I have tried DEEP HC a few minutes but I found it a little too slow for detecting in this field with all this iron trash. A few pics : The field : A double tournois , Henri IIII , 1598 : The broken Carolingian coin : A medieval coin weight : A few neighbours 🙂: End of the day , time to go back home : The Carolingian coin after cleaning , Denier , Louis 1er Le Pieux , 814-840 , HLUDOVICUSIMP XPISTIANARELIGIO Thanks to my trusty Deus2 WS6 .. 🙂 :

  13. Hey Phrunt. The hole for the pressure vent is on the base and will be hidden by the skid plate when fitted. If you remove the skid and look around the perimeter of the base you will see a 1mm hole - this is the vent. On the inside of the base we place a small pad which is IP rated for dust and water ingress and allows air to pass through - its the same pad as what Minelab use on their GPX6000 coils. If you do tape on the coil it should pose too much of an issue as most tapes are porous to a degree. if you are in doubt though you can make a small cut in the tape close to where the vent hole is to assist. The 11'' 24khz is a really lovely coil, also the 8x6,10'' and 13'' LF coil.....my favourite is still the old standard SE model with the dual 9'' coil i may possibly take the MP out this weekend on a roman site as i have not used it for a while, have the machine on charge and currently have the 11'' coil on it because the permission is very trashy as usually roman sites are.

  18. Nice recovery! I would've taken the $100 and not thought twice about it. Factor in your experience, cost of your detecting gear, and scuba gear (how many detectorists also have the ability to scuba?) and I bet the ring looser wouldn't have had a second thought about the $100 finders fee. Hopefully he leaves a nice feedback for you on your Facebook page.

  19. Sun Ray sold out a few years ago to a well known dealer on the east coast. As others have said, this will allow your detector discrimination settings, headphones and VDI to work with the probe. One thing to note is that it is not waterproof. He’s expecting to start shipping to his dealers in October. Wayne

  22. Some nice gold there. My method for pinpointing with the Concentrics is lifting the coil high off the ground, the very center of the coil is deepest so you lift so the target response is small and go over the target area and you should be able to mentally narrow down where the target is to a degree. Here I use a green scoop on green ground, you're using an orange scoop on orange ground, we are just begging to lose them 🙂

  25. It is not the first time I have offended you. For that I am sorry and I wish that hadn't happened. I just posted this video to help Equinox owners and potential Manticore owners. I also posted it because I really like Steve's videos since he always tries to keep things upbeat and positive even when he is demonstrating a detector issue like the one in the video that was posted here by me. I am sorry I posted it and sorry you are offended and sorry that Steve may be too. That certainly was not what I had in mind when I posted Steve's excellent video. BTW, I said in a previous post that I think Longbow62 is wrong about Steve. In fact, I know Longbow62 is wrong about Steve.....

  27. found two sterling items today, and 9 quarters and some nickles. The bracelet is boldly marked sterling , good weight to both of them . not plated, so i was looking for gold rings, but not disappointed with the silver. my settings on the orx where coin deep , 75 gain, 8.4khz, 2.5 sweep speed, and 6.5 disc mostly open low trash spot I chose the low frequincy becase it can see thru the junk foils and give me the higher numbers thru the small foils. a gold ring is under the junk foil , the 17,2 will not do that , some of the nickles came in the 71 ,69 VDI range but ya this is how it is . And i dug alot of trash .

  29. All I am saying is mentioning the word leaking when associated with the Manticore just because the Equinox had leak problems is a stretch. Obviously Minelab has addressed the coil ear breakage with a newly designed coil. A little common sense would tell you they more than likely addressed the leak problems associated with the Equinox. It's actually given a rating of IP68. Minelab states it's good to 16ft. this time. Lets look at the Manticore. Visually it's similar to the Equinox, but everything is different. Not one part structurally is the same as the Equinox. The guy I believe his name is Mark has said in one of the first videos I saw about the Manticore something to the effect this is not an Equinox. I have nothing against Gigmaster at all. I've watched some of his videos. It's still barely a free country the last I checked and he can post as many videos and speculate all he wants about any machine he wants. I may be lumping him in with folks who make money off posting videos and desire hits. He has made a lot of videos. Not all about metal detecting, but a lot of videos period. Again I have nothing against him.

  32. Gigmaster has 29K subscribers and a little over 2,000 plus videos in 7 years. To say he does not want hits is ridiculous. He has a lot of uploads. As a comparison. The Hoover Boys 113K subscribers 532 videos in 7 years. I find 4 machines that have cracked around the charging port to be really strange. 4 machines that have leaked owned by the same user most likely has something to do with the user doing something that causes it. You would think the replacement units would have been spread out over time so it wouldn't be a bad batch of plastic. One crack extends all the way to the wired headphone connection port in his photo. I can't imagine plastic cracking on it's own without being overly stressed in some way. What he is doing to stress that area I have no idea. I have kept my 2018 Nox 800 in a hot or freezing vehicle for days on end. I have charged that unit constantly putting on and removing the charging cord probably well above the number of times the average user would. I looked at mine last evening taking a photo and enlarged it not seeing the faintest issue around the charge port. In fact Gigmaster is only guy I have heard complain about the problem. I Googeled "Minelab Equinox charging port cracks" and only get stuff related to what he posted. He also made videos about the Nox leaking around where the handle attached to the rod and battery compartment, and how to enhance the waterproofing around that potential water ingress point. I still think it's a stretch to assume or worry about the Manticore having leaking problems before it's in the hands of users just because it charges the same way as the Equinox. I still think he sits around thinking about topics he can use to up his YouTube content.

  34. I'll Pass on the extra weight and extra 1/2'' in depth. If you learn your machine you'll very rarely be fooled by iron. I look at this way, Once you commit to digging a hole your digging a hole. At the 12'' mark I abandon all hopes of a non-ferrous target. (usually its 10'') My Carrot has served me well over the many years and digging that deep will get you lost permissions.

  35. May 26 1937 Last night we drank whiskey and argued about what to do with the treasure. John said that if we tried to sell it we might lose it to our government or a foreign government because they might claim they had the rights to it. He said we needed to find a broker who would quietly and secretly line up the sale of either all or part of the treasure. It needed to be evaluated as to possible origin and value as well. This would not be easy and could lead to problems. John said that we should bury everything and station a guard at the site at all times until we figured out what to do. We all ended up agreeing on that plan. So before sunrise the treasure was once again under the ground with the exception of a few examples we could show a broker. The crew took the day off while John and I drove Sarge’s truck into town to get supplies and buy a new work truck. I found a good used one at a small dealer’s lot in town and we filled it up with a big load of supplies. When we were in the general store I asked if there were any good jewelry shops in the area. I was directed to a little shop on a side street and we drove over there to talk with the owner. When John and I walked in I asked the man if he was the owner. He said he was. Then I asked him if he knew any jewelry wholesalers who bought items. He gave me a phone number and we went to a private area and called the number. The broker was located in Reno. I told him we had some items that were of great value that we would like to sell and asked him if he could come to town to look at them. The broker told me he would be in that area in two days so I made an appointment to meet him at the jewelry store. That was all that was said and John and I drove the trucks back to camp. We unloaded the supplies and I fixed a big supper later on and we broke out the whisky and discussed everything. By now the crew had buried the bodies of all the outlaws. We were free of them. I asked every member of the crew if they were still in with me for the mining project. To a man they all said yes. I told them that we most likely had hit a great deposit of gold and needed to get back to working the ground. Will and Hudson were still not back to full strength and not up to digging so they would need to act as guards along with Sarge but Ben would go out to the site and help me dig. Sarge would remain on guard duty. Now that we had a plan we would get back to our jobs as miners. The going would most likely be slow for a while but I couldn’t hardly wait to get back to digging. The crew turned in for the night but I sat up for another hour drinking whiskey and remembering all the past events. I rolled a Burley and took a deep drag. The one thing that still bothered me was what the Indian Shaman had said. I just couldn’t get it out of my mind. TO BE CONTINUED ..................

  36. Difficult at best for most of us to comment on most of what you've stated as we simply weren't involved in the behind the scenes stuff. I learned long ago that his inert Florida soil is akin to doing an air test for the most part, and as you stated has no translation into real world usage for those of us in areas with unlike soil conditions. This was a realization I came to after using the F75 for many years, which is a great detector in the right conditions, but throw in ground mineralization and/or rust flakes which are common in most relic environs out west, and you have one handicapped detector. Personally I don't think he's trying to mislead anyone. His heart's in the right place, his detecting experience and passion are almost second to none. Steve, you and Tom D. hunt very different types of sites for the most part. When you were sharing your test experiences with the Equinox, I followed you closely because many of the western sites I detect have very similar ground conditions to what you were dealing with, so for me it's a much more apples to apples comparison. That said, I don't discount what he shares, but after two decades of reading his information, one certainly learns where to draw the line. His constant passion for moving the ball forward is seemingly focused mainly on EMI mitigation, better iron unmasking and of course increased depth. I can't fault him for trying to move the ball forward in the detecting world.

  37. I think Tom D .... had a big influence on the inclusion of a changeable Iron Bias setting as one of the Equinox's features...,, But his field tests reflect the work of the detector in low-mineralized terrain, where the detector on the low recovery speed setting achieves excellent deep results... sometimes almost at the limit of the detector's technical capabilities. I like his comparative separation tests in the field...👍 Yes, the terrain of higher and high mineralization .. is a different world... and there a completely different detector setting will work optimally... and the practical depth will also be much smaller.. Manticore... from a direct comparison on the test field and in the field right away... from several modern detectors, it appears that this detector has great sensitivity for small targets.. such as 1/24 stater..,, and also excellent separation and depth of detection. ., for various targets placed deep on the test field "and disguised by iron from the side... Test on the golden chain..where Manticore was able to detect the chain from even at a 90 degree angle...it also showed the high sensitivity of Manticore to small targets..definitely beyond the possibilities of Equinox and Deus 2..

  38. yep, Garrett 24k coils work on the Whites 24k with no modifications and are no doubt much better build quality, the more I read the more it seems Whites were terrible at making coils, might be why they used Detech for some. I have two Whites 6" Concentrics for my 24k now, glad I have a spare now after reading about how bad their coils are. I hope Garrett makes the 6" Concentric soon, I'd like a better quality coil. Thanks for posting the photos, interesting seeing inside it.

  39. Yes, The depth tests of the Equinox / deus II / MTC on the 2 videos were carried out during the DETECLAND in France by the company LE FOUILLEUR whose boss is doing the tests, on September 17 and 18 after the visit of Marck lawrie. I made an excel file to compare in the 2 videos the Deus 2 / Equinox 800 depths and the MTC but they are in French if a bilingual person wants to translate them correctly I publish them.

  40. I forgot, there's a metal foil strip that is very sensitive, (where the chirping or false signals may have been coming from). The bridge keeps the cover away from it. Going out away from town to test it further, too much interference in town.

  42. Does the infinium coils work just as good as the ATX coil? Probably not since they are not tuned for the machine. But they do work and might be “better” for situations where the size itself is advantageous. Also, will the new Axiom coils work with the ATX circuitry? I don’t know. In general there is no magic to be had using coils not specific to a detector. They may work, but usually have issues due to a mismatch. For instance, ground balance may be off. PI are more forgiving than VLF though.

  43. I agree Alain. Mineralization is definitely a factor. I can do the same with all of the targets in the video and with targets similar to yours and Deus 2 Goldfield will detect them even on highly iron mineralized ground. Bury them even 5cm and they are very hard to detect. Those same targets in the video were fairly easy to detect with Deus 1/ORX Goldfield at 5cm even using XP's conservative settings and frequencies around 31 kHz at the site in the video during testing in the past. However, even in air testing (which I do not put much faith in by the way especially with SMF detectors) there is a really quick drop off in sensitivity to small sub gram low conductor targets using the higher frequency weighted FMF modes and especially Goldfield which should hit small sub gram targets very well, in theory. While I still had my Deus 1, I compared air tests between Deus 1 and Deus 2 Goldfield modes in a low EMI environment on the exact same targets used in the video above. Deus 1 in Goldfield at 31 kHz using the HF Elliptical coil was hitting those targets easily a full 3cm farther than Deus 2 in Goldfield using the exact same settings except for single frequency versus SMF and different coils and with much stronger audio responses.

  44. The Legend was ground balanced near those targets too and it did like I expected which is similar to the Equinox. When I got Deus 2 I had hoped it would have at least as good performance as Deus 1 and maybe as good as Equinox/Legend. If they don’t tweak it that would be a shame since it’s predecessors were very good prospecting detectors. A smaller coil would be great.

  45. Just to back-up the "mineralization" issue with the D2. Myself, Jeff, and Steve H were all working heavy mineralized sites about a month ago. Steve and I were Pm-ing, and Jeff chimed in, trying different solutions to get the D2 to perform at three different locations. Conclusions: All three of us were disappointed in how the D2 handled Black Sand/Mineralized soil. BE PREPARED, for several different issues to happen if you are running hot ground. The only reason I did not write this up was the fact my D2 was discharging while turned off. I cannot be 100% sure my D2 was functioning correctly. I will get get on the Black Sand again and will see if I can make progress. I was running the 9" coil too.

  46. This is why I don’t like to post videos…….. and why I sympathize with anyone that posts a lot of videos whether I like the videos or not. I have a messed up ankle. I can’t get up into the mountains right now which are the nearest gold prospecting areas close to me. I have found quite a bit of gold with Deus 1 and the ORX at those sites. I had one chance with Deus 2 at one of those sites and I was shocked and very disappointed by its performance. Abenson had already warned me that might happen but I had the 9” coil so I had hoped for better results. Every other test I have done with Deus 2 on small gold nugget and micro gold jewelry targets using Goldfield has been exactly the same…..poor depth and poor sensitivity compared to Deus 1 and the ORX whether I ground balanced a foot away or a mile away. Deus 2 could barely hit those targets in Goldfield in moderate mineralization. Maybe you can get an idea about how it does in 10 of 10 iron mineralization……… I tried to pick a site close by that had enough mineralization to challenge Deus 2. I must have succeeded since it couldn’t handle it very well. Believe what you want. I could just keep my mouth shut and be unhappy………or just give up on Deus 2. I am trying to help make Deus 2 better for everybody that wants to hunt small gold nuggets and micro gold jewelry using it.

  47. Can’t run reactivity of 1 in any goldfield I know of due to iron mineralization. Running a higher Silencer setting in Deus Mono may also “silence” targets near the ferrous/non ferrous break along with non ferrous signals being pulled down into the ferrous range like two of these targets were in the video. No Silencer adjustment in FMF Goldfield. The targets were not ground balanced out with either detector. If I didn’t ground balance on camera people would tell me about it too

  49. The salt mode balances out the salt signal, just like all salt modes. There is no "new technology" for doing that, in this or any other detector. You can eliminate salt via phase with a VLF, or pulse delay with a PI, or both in hybrid processing. Either method tunes out small non-ferrous items that read like salt, like small earrings, or thin gold chains. The Axiom, as a PI, will be using sufficient pulse delay to eliminate the salt signal. The big difference here is not salt compensation, it's magnetite handling for people that have that issue. The machine balances out magnetite better than any detector I have ever used. Until other coils arrive, it's not really a wading machine though, so dry beach only. The 11" can be held down with effort, and I did not even bother trying the larger coils in the water. No, there is no video specific to salt mode at this time. There are a couple videos on YouTube showing it being used on the beach, but nothing that really tells you anything yet.

  50. You have devices as good or better already. If you don't not like the screens, tape them over or put the controller in your pocket, and hunt by ear. Most XP users hunt by ear anyway. You can go down nostalgia road if you want, but personally I have done it many times, and reality never measures up to memory when it comes to comparing the old to the new.
