So, I went back to a club claim that had been pounded for years with virtually all detectors imaginable, including countless times with the GPZ 7000, and that was essentially left for dead. It was a beautiful day, around 60 degrees but with fairly strong winds. There was not a soul out there, something that made the majestic landscape even more impressive. I decided to use my GPX 6000 with the NF 12 x 7 and to do some slow scanning of an area where I recovered quite some gold over the years (mostly by using the GPZ). My settings were: Auto +, normal, threshold on, with ML headset. I was pleasantly surprised how stable the machine was with these settings, something I would not have expected in this area. I should mention that I did the audio fix as well, which I now believe contributes for sure to the overall improved stability of the detector, even when just using BT. One of my first targets was a thin flat piece that was obviously pounded by the force of moving mass including lava rocks. Always nice to see it at first all dirty in the scoop, a feeling of joy that never seems to go away, doesn’t matter how many nuggets you have found before, small or large. After some "spit cleaning", the shiny yellow came out. I am actually surprised that this nugget was not picked up previously. I would certainly expect that most detectors would have been able to see it, also considering that it was fairly shallow, about 2-3 inch deep. So, the day started good, and I continued to scan the close vicinity around my initial find. One thing that I noticed was how incredible sensitive the machine is, something that I was of course aware of having used the 6000 quite a bit, but that again came to my attention. One challenge is that the whole area is littered with bird shots, and I must have recovered at least 20-30 within just a few hours. This is clearly less of a problem with the GPZ 7000, even when run at full bore. I then decided to change tactics and once a target was heard to remove about 1 inch of surface material with my Hermit pick (one end with wide blade), and to only recover if the target would then still be there. This actually worked quite well, and my next “piece” was a super small, tiny flake at about 2-3-inch depth. The flake was so tiny that it was almost impossible to pick it up with the fingers, and of course it did not register on the scale. But the fact that the 6000/NF12 x7 picked it up with a clear high/low signal at about 2-3-inch depth is truly remarkable, and shows once more the power of the 6000, combined with the excellent performance of the NF 12x7 coil. Would the 11-inch stock or the Coiltek 9-round have picked it up, perhaps. But I did not make a cross comparison of all three coils, as I wanted to focus on detecting. But I really have to say I am super impressed by the NF12x7. It is highly sensitive, not a bit less than the 11 stock, but with a more balanced response signal, smoother and it also appears more stable. All targets that I recovered that day were high/low signals, with only some hot rocks or areas of high mineralization giving a low/hi response. I picked up two more pieces, always by using the “1-inch scrape/discard technique”, something that really worked well for me and that I can recommend using for bird shot infested areas. Can you see the one in the next pic? 😊 I picked up four in total that afternoon, and I am sure there is more on this claim, considering that I only focused on a small area around my initial nugget and thoroughly scanned only in the close vicinity. Overall, a great day in the desert. There is something magic about being out there, and every time I come back from it I feel I have been on a meditative retreat. Finding gold is an added bonus to me, and even without any I enjoy my trips every time! Here is the general area where I hang out. Go get some. 😉 So long, guys! GC16 points

I ordered an Equinox 900 from Gerry a couple of weeks ago and took it out for the first time today. Although I’ve never done it before, I decided to try my hand at nugget hunting. This will be a bit of a travelogue of the trip. I live in NE Nevada close to some old gold mines. I headed to Osceola this morning. Gold was found there in 1872. There is a great story of a laborer working in one of the washes one night who found 20+ lb. Nugget. He initially wanted to steal it, and rode some 30 miles that night to Ward, NV and had it melted down. He had a change of heart and confessed to the mine owners what had done and returned the gold to them, and they forgave him. The cemetery gives you a good idea of how picturesque the view is of the valley below. Most of the gold in Osceola was placer, and the banks of the creeks were really hit hard, as well as the underlying gravel beds. There were, however, several holes dug. Since this was my first time out with 900, my expectations were low, and I met those expectations. I didn’t find anything, but was up and down hills and creek beds, and swung the Nox for some four hours. I’m quite sore, but loved every minute of the outing. As you can see, this corner of Nevada is very pretty.16 points

A friend took me to one of his spots in NJ he’s been finding seated silver dimes and quarters at. I dug my first gold coin an 1876 young head shield back 1/2 sovereign in excellent condition and 1854 1877 seated quarters the 77 is cc. Still learning the manticore but it’s starting to click. Good luck everyone. Thanks John11 points

Wanted to document if you will some of the areas and finds from them while I still retain good info. Lid full is field of dreams, buddy has also dug a good bit (r.i.p.) and I've gave bullets to many who think them cool. Dues 2 all cannister, plate, buckle both officer buttons and 15ish bullets in 8 trips 2hr to 6. Much more to go. Coins, tax tokens Tuscumbia al. Flat buttons from all places but 4,5 from lee county. Dirty bullets, chess pieces, iron ring railroad. Fired lead missionary ridge ( dozens more). 69 cals,71cals iuka miss. White lead Reston va. Gardners was 4 from a confederate camp I've had no time to explore and undocumented, not a chance it's known or touched all 4 came from 10ft diameter and its a extremely tough site. Grill, south beach. I have the few permissions that produce and I've chased many that don't like everyone! Coins were sidewalk strip! The railroad site is killer and I've not been based in chatt to really get at it but everytime I've went in it's been a solid short time! Many acres to field of dreams never walked too! Permission in a trust ( original fella died and new owners told me this). Yall have a riot. Best of luck and may you dig me under! Be safe6 points

The battery for my WM12 stopped charging and was dead, zero volts with the multimeter so it was either buy a new WM12 for about $350 AUD or try and find a replacment battery. I ended up finding one online and it cost $25 AUD including postage so I ordered it and it arrived and I fitted it, it is just plug and play nothing to hard at all. The WM12 now charges and works perfectly again This is the replacement battery if anyone is interested or has a similar problem and this is the original battery cheers dave5 points

Been using F350's Relic Reaper with just a few tweaks to suit my specific site conditions. Last couple of hunts were similar to the previous hunts using the Reaper. I've been digging lots of buttons and pewter and lead bits. These are sites that have been heavily hunted. First pic from my previous hunt shows 24 buttons from 1 site. This site had given up over a hundred buttons to my D1 but I hadn't hit it with the D2. The second pic is from another worn out site that I had hit with both the D1 and D2 over the years. I was surprised I dug that many non ferrous targets from this site this morning. But the Relic Reaper is no joke. Lodge5 points

Hello fellow members I went to an old haunt on Thursday for a few slow hours but I did manage to find a few nice buttons including this early one piece eagle.I have the Warren K. Tice Uniform buttons 1776-1865 book but cannot seem to locate it and i'm hoping that one of the experts out there might know something about it.I apologize for the poor quality photos as I am learning a new camera. If you look closely you will notice two letters below the eagles perch V T or V I ? The Back-mark is not that legible either as there is a lot of wear and I did not want to clean it very much. Thanks Everyone!4 points

Thanks guys. The forum is well past 10 years old now. The major building effort is behind me, and I now am just tuning it to be for the core participating membership. I'm not trying to be the biggest forum or anything like that. The current membership levels are fine, and the kind of members I am interested in won't care a bit about the new restrictions. If people really care and want to genuinely participate with a group of really good people, then 10 posts and 30 days is nothing. Guys like the last one that wanted to grab a file and be gone are just takers, and nobody here will ever miss them. I'm not sure what the future of forums is and I have no grand plans for this one. At this point I'm content to try and keep it humming along with as little oversight as possible on my part. I have zero online presence anywhere but here at this point and honestly am just barely checking in here these days. So if anyone sees things that seem not right please let me know. The key thing is drama. This website is for people that hate drama and if anyone is causing drama please let me know via PM or a report so I can either get them in line, or get rid of them. My thanks to those who have been assisting me in this manner.4 points

Definitely was a bucket lister lol friend dug a holed 1853 $1 gold with legend not sure what it rang up on his machine. The 1/2 sovereign rang up a 34 or 36 on manticore in ground was about 5” deep after I seen that gold shield staring at me when I popped the plug I couldn’t remember if it was 34 or 36 lol adding photo for size thanks John3 points

Thanks for posting this, LC. I'm really pleased to see the program bringing old sites to life for you! 👍 In the second photo a button appears to be silver, if solid a rare find. Either way buttons are always a good find. I think the base premise of the RR program is to keep you from wasting time digging iron if you don't want to dig it, or to clearly identify it (size, depth) if you do. Even aluminum is identified most times by an upward or downward (or both) mid to high tone, same applies, you can dig it if you want. Always dig questionable stuff for experience and reference. No program is perfect. Once you Master the tones you're going to dig as much good as bad, I'd love to see some trash pics if you have them, you may well be at that point. Great hunt, looks like it's working out for you! 🙂 I'm working on a similar one for Beach, but the variables increase. One day pull tabs were in the 80s after a rain storm 🤣3 points

Haha! Nice... You made me famous. Boy its true the camera adds a few pounds lol. It had nothing to do with a winter trapped inside with nothing to do but eat 🤣🤣. Ohh well digging at the claims should tune me up a bit.3 points

XRF spectrometers only measure the surface content. As such I don't know if they can tell plated from solid. However, your jeweler probably does know, and further I think they sometimes have other methods including their own years of experience appraising jewelry of all kinds. So I agree s/he is a good resource to have available.3 points

It’s still out there but you have to be willing to put in the time looking for it. Another thing that’s great about gold it don’t make any difference how small it is it still makes the heart beat fast and it’s still gold. Thanks for the show and tell! Chuck3 points

US nickels are 63-65, Zincolns are 80-85, depending on crust, but I've dug them in the 50s if they're really nasty. 😵 Older nickels, like Buffalo and V come up as low as 58.2 points

Nice report on your detector and coil, I'm so happy you went down the EMI fix path for your 6000 as you were very hesitant at the start, I just knew if you had it done you would notice the difference. That looks a nice detecting spot, such a massive area of openness, having a coil cover that much ground well would be impossible so you've got years of hunting ahead in that area alone, I wish the GPS mapping of the GPZ was super accurate with graphical photographic satellite mapping using google maps or something showing coverage, they now have GPS accuracy that can work down to a couple of inches and in some cases in millimeters so it is possible... Something on my bucket list for a detector as I'm terrible at covering ground accurately, probably why I can go back to the same spot and find more all the time 🙂 Do those bushes and things grow bigger? One of the problems here is we are losing ground to growth of bushes all through the gold areas, mostly briar rose which is nasty thorny stuff and thyme which entirely covers the ground making it near inaccessible for a coil, my little 8" on the GPZ is the only coil suitable for the thyme areas and a little elliptical would be even better which is why I'm hanging out for the little Sadie NF for the 6000. The 10x5" on the GPX is decent but a bit big so the Sadie will be my weapon of choice for the thyme. It's time to invest in new scales, a GPX user has no business using scales that can't give weights on small gold 😉 I just ordered some new scales myself as my screen is starting to play up on mine, they had a 10 year warranty too but I threw away the receipt. My new ones are going to be US Inferno scales and look exactly like yours in a different colour scheme but are more accurate weighing down to 0.001 of a gram like my old scales could so they're GPX 6000 compatible, even Gold Bug 2 compatible 😛 Very cool you came home with 4 nuggets too, and that big one at only a few inches is a good find, never understand how that happens but it's happened to me too and it was also with the 6000, a nugget I'd missed in the past and was sure I'd been over that spot and out it popped, easy shallow quite large (for me) flat nugget. May on it's edge I don't know.2 points

That's actually a really good idea, some people will be completely turned off the Nox 900 and Manticore due to their larger scales, the Nox 800 with it's much smaller scale certainly gives the impression of much more accurate ID's and I think there is something a little off about the Manticore with it's ID's being a little too out of whack for just a larger number of ID's. Either way, they can do a lot with software and having an option to pick ID range certainly wouldn't be out of the question, they could do a pick between the Equinox number, the Manticore number, the Nox 900 number all on one detector, it's just another menu item and I'm sure if Nokta encountered this many people frustrated by the new ID range setting they would add a feature to select the range number in a firmware update.2 points

Thinking>>> Maybe in this digital age the MFG's should give us downloadable scale options? Pick 50 or 100 scale! Can not be that hard to program? The Deus 2 100 scale does not impress me.2 points

bang my head on a tree mostly, LOL I only have maybe...30 hours (vs 1300+ on the 800 for example) so still trying to wrap my brain around how this works, at times it does feel like a CTX I'm more of a tone hunter, any tone. If it crosses its getting dug up. That said I would at least like to be able to hear a decent tone, but it squeaks, or breaks up or does that weird little thing that makes it iffy, allowing me to make a rational choice...life is only allowing a couple trips a week, for a couple of hours, gone for now are the all day two days in a row hunts...for now.. heres the thing, I got permission on a site- 1840 homestead north ohio, ALREADY in just 3 visits, a confederate lead toy soldier, 9 gilded uniform buttons, several mid 1800 buttons, spoons from early 18's, 3 half cents, excellent relics, 1874 world fair token, indians...its a freaking hot spot, best I've hit (potentially) and some of the densest can slaw, iron nails, slag, halos', scrap, pull tabs, did I mention the ghost ring halos?? this thing wants to make mad passionate love to each and every one of 'em...ffs.. ....oh... did I mention they tearing down the house, (the gorgeous 1860 barn is gone) building a new house, going to use dirt from new dig to grade the yard and we're literally working while construction equipment is doing its thing? I'm guessing 2 weeks, maybe 3 before its gone. Super cool old guy owns it so its embarrassing asking what I knew was going to be a noob question...no freaking small coils yet... I'm learning a new machine...on a hotspot, already sold the other 2 (cause knowing myself, I would use the previous detector instead of forcing that painful learning curve) appreciate the replies- I do see potential in the mantiwhore..oops.. manticore..sure as feck wish they'd have a freaking small coil already even "digging it all" is maddening, various settings seem insanely chattery, dropped sens to 15 in areas, helped a bit, I'll get a good tone, narrow it down, cross it up, its gone..back to the first angle, chattery, so much trash pinpointing is a trick... but cleary the site is loaded tick tock 👍2 points

The hands and pans thing in the Auburn State Rec area is a bit of a joke. The Auburn State Rec area is not a State Park or even State land. Almost all the land involved is either private or Federal public lands. The State has less than 40 acres there as I recall. The Auburn State Rec area is a management contract between the Federal government and the State Parks department. The reason the hands and pans thing is funny is because that management contract specifically states that the State has no control or management duties for the minerals found in the public lands within the Rec area. Sometimes it's all about perception and voluntary compliance - not law or a duty to control. The Auburn Rec area minerals are still, for the most part, open to prospecting. There are a few areas that have been withdrawn from mineral entry and the private lands are off limits but the "hands and pans" regs are not really legally enforceable. Of course neither is the Adventure Pass but people still keep paying to park on public lands.2 points

I dug this pendant yesterday May 4. My wife said that it was 10KB and I saw 14KB when I looked at it. I googled the KB to find out what the B stood for. What I found was that if it didn't come from Mexico, it meant "bonded" or plated. Well the 15 told me that it was a Quinceanera piece of jewelry, so the Mexico origin made sense. Today I tested it and it only tested 10K. I got out my 40x loupe and could clearly see that there was a 4 counter stamped inside the 0. So what I am thinking is that the B stands for bonding the Tri gold together. The main part is yellow gold, the center is Rose gold and the number is white gold. Can anyone confirm my hypothisis? Thanks, Joe2 points

New members now have limited access until they reach Full Member status. There is no ability to include links or to edit their own posts until they have made 10 posts and been a member more than 30 days. There is no access to posting classifieds until after 10 posts and 30 days. They can post in response to an ad however. There is a limit of one Personal Message conversation per day so they can contact people with ads in the Classifieds in private if desired. Any account that has not posted at all in the 30 day period will be deleted. Anyone with more than one but less than 10 posts will simply remain in the regular Member account status indefinitely. The accounts that make at least ten valid posts and have been a member at least 30 days will automatically be promoted to the new Full Member status. This will give access to the Classifieds, remove the PM limit, allow links and post editing, preset "signatures" and more. This does not affect any existing accounts!! Any current members with less than 10 posts etc need not worry as all accounts as of this morning were promoted to Full Member status. Anyone with no posts however should at least post once or lose your account after 30 days have passed. This was done to stop the excessive spammer activity after consulting the current membership over the last month. It should pretty much put a complete halt to that sort of thing, while also encouraging new members to be more active. Lurkers are welcome, but will need to post at least once. Thank you everyone for the valuable feedback on this subject. I will monitor the new setup but if anyone experiences anything odd due to the new setup, please let me know. I changed quite a few forum settings and hopefully got it all right.1 point

I am interested in the history of White's Electronics. So, just for fun I have decided to start researching their history. This is just a personal interest project for me. I have found just a few newspaper articles, some patent numbers and have or have reference to a few of their brochure packets. I am interested in all of their history, from the inception, through the geiger counter phase, why they started making metal detectors, when various models were introduced, etc. to the end of the business. Does any one know of any written history on the company or does anyone have any references or links to references that they are willing to share? PM's are welcome. Thanks in advance for any help.1 point

GB_Amateur, Thanks for posting the tables. I may use them in the future if I can get together the components for the measurement. At the moment, I have a local jewelry store that has an XRF scope. I am not sure how much they charge to scan a piece of jewelry, but it will tell me the gold and other metal percentages in just a few seconds. I may drive by the store today and see if they are open on Saturdays. I know during Covid they were only open by appointment, and you needed to be hazmatted up as well. I have a few other trinkets that I would like to know the composition of also. So, this may be a good excuse to get it done. thanks, Joe PS Attached is a better picture of the 4 inside the 0 but you can't see the B in this view.1 point

Here is a map of the mines in California currently mining with permits and heavy equipment. There are new ones being approved on a regular basis. I have several clients that have permitted major mines in California in the last three years. Some of those are gold mines - both placer and lode operations. No form of mining has been outlawed in California. https://maps.conservation.ca.gov/mol/index.html I wouldn't look to flooding to move much gold in the waterways. Mass wasting from heavy rains does replenish gold in the waterways but without mass wasting I wouldn't expect much change in river placer gold availability. Watch for new landslides or major slump movement to bring fresh gold this spring. 🚴♂️1 point

The comments about build inconsistency remind me of a similar issue with the Etrac that occurred years ago. Some of you may recall there was a supposed difference in Etracs made in Ireland and later models made in Malaysia. I personally had one of each and did not notice a difference. However, I do remember some guys going nuts on insisting they would only own the Irish version and not the Malaysian one. Again, and it has been a long time ago, the issue just sort of faded away. As phrunt said, if a similar situation exists with Mjnelab's current detectors then I should think that they would not want to open that can of worms. I can only imagine the various YouTubers going ballistic with their amateur detective work trying to source detectors if that did occur.1 point

The more popular a forum the more "dung" it deals with, most of us have absolutely no idea... think personally, if your email address gets exposed to spammers from a silly mistake putting it into a form on a dodgy website you can get 100+ emails a day if you're lucky and the only real solution is to change email address, you just can't stop it.... think about a forum and how much rubbish it has to deal with and it's not ideal to keep changing domain names so you have to battle it on the front line, you can't avoid it.1 point

I've been using the Nemo since 2019. I broke my back in 2018, I didn't think I would ever dive again because of the toll it takes wearing all the extra weight from the weight belt to the tanks. In 2018 I ran across the Nemo and just about every day since from March until November I've been diving, no tanks, and I wear a weight belt so I can metal detect and clean out swimming areas around the state of Maine. If you like the water, snorkeling, swimming, metal detecting I would highly recommend getting a Nemo (which allows you to safely go to 10 feet deep). For more experienced divers I would recommend the Nomad (which allows you to safely go up to 30 feet deep). It's my favorite purchase that I've ever made. Blu3 is an amazing company because of the amazing people that work there. They have always helped me out with any questions that I've had. Blu3 also does some amazing things for the environment, by giving back. They also allow me and so many others this flexibility to clean up the waterways without diving with tanks on. Either product is great depending on what you want to do. I would recommend taking the PADI class no matter what product you use but especially if you go with the Nomad as this system lets you go up to 30 feet deep. The education you get in PADI can make sure you are as prepared as possible for anything that could go wrong. Adam with AEW Maine Treasure Adventures1 point
