  1. I got all my D2 gear updated yesterday and it went very smoothly. I was anxious to try it so I got out for a couple of hours today. Originally I was going to try and test everything I could, but I didn't have that kind of time, so I just loaded up the Silver Slayer program and made a few adjustments for the V1.0 software and hit a yard and curb strip in front of an old house permission. I ran the Discrim at 6.8, Notch at 7-40, Iron Volume at 7, Silencer at 2, B-Caps at 0, Sensitivity 95, and Reactivity at 1.5. I also set the Max Frequency at 14 KHz and ran the new High Square audio. Man I really like that sound! I literally took three steps into the yard filled with modern trash and and nails and hit a loud 88 and dug out what I thought was a smashed gold ring or pendant. It turned out to be a gold plated 925 silver & Topaz ring that weighed 7.16 grams, but I was more than happy with that! What a good start with the new update I thought. There was a lot of iron in the ground and with the Pitch tones of the SS program, I was getting the typical high falsing on the nails, so I bumped the Silencer and B-Caps to 3 and man, what a difference! I still got some falsing on bigger iron but it was easy to tell with a 90 degree rotation on the target. I dug a bit of iron at first to verify and much of the iron in my trash photo was just stuff that was in the hole when I dug the good targets. When I moved out to the curb strip which was loaded with pull tabs, ring pulls, and bottle caps, I hit a very convincing sounding 51-52 and out popped a junk ring, but it was ring #2! A few feet from there, I got a great sounding 96 which I thought was going to be a quarter, but it was an 8 gram 925 silver ring with 6 large stones and a bunch of smaller stones, ring #3! Finally it came time to leave and on the way back to the car I snagged one last small silver ring that had a broken shank that still rang up a solid 82, ring #4! I was speechless! Needless to say, I'm sold on the new update and can't wait to explore more of the new features and settings. XP, it was well worth the wait and you knocked it out of the park! Well done! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  2. I don't usually go relic hunting in the late spring to fall, but an opportunity presented itself right outside my house. 12 acres of the farm is up for sale, it hasn't sold in 15 years but the owner decided to get a new agent, clear some of the woods to show the potential water view, and lower the price a bit. He gave me permission to hunt all his land so I have access to everything around me that the farmers don't own, and all that too. The field is the first field outside my house I ever hunted, got a lot of buttons and old relics, some cut pistareens and a half cent. In the back of this field they cut a path through the jungle to the river, there is a marsh at the end. The hill doesn't look steep but the angle is around 70 degrees or more. The realtor put a guide rope on the trees. Yesterday I updated all my Deus 2 gear to V1, what a coincidence ๐Ÿ˜ I decided to pack up my WS6 Master rig with the 9" coil and went over there on my golf cart to take advantage of hunting it before the jungle takes it back. It will be impassable by fall. It was only a 3 hour hunt, that ravine is a killer ๐Ÿ˜… hunting on what is the equivalent angle of a 12-12 pitch roof is difficult, the ground is full of roots, and it's deer fly season so they are everywhere. ๐Ÿคฌ Here's the trash, I didn't get much, dug the nails to prove to myself iron was iron, and some were in the same hole as my finds. I was using Relic Reaper and messing with some of the new features. One thing I noticed was no "Profile" option, it may have never existed but I am not a fan of the large number screen. I also want to put Silver Slayer on this machine now that there are a couple notches available, and a beach program from a forum user I want to try. First good find was a button, a 75 that ended up being under a root. Very crisp signal, gotta say V1 is an improvement. It had no backmarks and part of the shank crumbled away. I got to about 10 feet from the top and got a solid 58. Most of the buck balls were 57-63 depending on size, but this just sounded different. Out popped the surprise of the day: A gold watch fob, i believe it's Victorian era from my search, 1837-1901. It could even be from the 20s. The initials of the owner are in the bottom plate: The cleaner it gets the "golderer" it gets, nothing flaking off. It doesn't weigh a lot and appears to be hollow. My guess is 10k Gold Filled, like the one I found doing research below: It's pretty similar. Gold is gold tho... ๐Ÿฅณ Cannot believe the Deus 2 hit gold already! The initials are those of the owner of the whole farm a long time ago, I may give it to the family. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. A good start to the week with a few bits of gold at my usual hunting grounds and an old Queensland Boy Scouts button along Endeavour Creek.. This is my first old looking button.. I know it doesn't compare to a Civil War or Gallipoli button but no one can accuse it of being a modern marvel.. I did first think it was military but then recognized the Boy Scout symbol.. This find was the result of following an impulse to have a looksee in a grassy patch amongst the foreshore scrub.. I also found another silver florin (1943) and two pennies in the same spot..

  4. I was starting to think about how the ability to adjust Max FMF for any Factory Program might affect our ability to better customize Deus II FMF for just about any situation and to better visualize the similarity between base Factory Program capabilities with the additional degree of freedom this new feature proivides. First I had to organize the programs into a specific hierarchy. It is a work in progress but it basically racks out as follows: FMF or Selectable Single Frequency (Under Single we only have Program 7 - Mono) Under FMF there are basically Three Groups Disc Process (e.g., all the non-salt, discrimination programs such as General, Sensitive, Park, Deep HC) IAR Process (i.e., Gold Field and Relic) Disc - Salt Process (i.e., Dive, Beach, and Beach Sensitive) Under 2 of the 3 base processes above you have two categories (Note: Disc - Salt only uses Conductive soil subtraction) Frequency Addition (Disc Example: Sensitive; IAR Example: Gold Field; Disc - Salt Example: None) or Conductive Soil Subtraction (Disc Example: General; IAR Example: Relic; Disc - Salt Example: Diving) Finally, under each of these processes you can select one of 3 Max FMF Frequencies: 14, 24, or 40 In tabular form it looks like this: MAX FMF FREQ (kHz) FAST MULTI-FREQUENCY (FMF) SEL SINGLE FREQ DISC IAR SALT MONO - 7 ADD SUB ADD SUB ADD SUB 14 DEEP HC - 6 X X X N/A DIVING - 10 24 PARK - 5 X X RELIC - 9 N/A BEACH - 11 40 SENSITIVE/FT/FAST - 2, 3, 4 GENERAL - 1 GOLD FIELD - 8 X N/A BEACH SENS - 12 Sorry about the clunky formatting, but just trying to do this fast on the fly. The X's mark areas that are not covered by a default Factory Program. So, for example, you can create a custom Silver Slayer variant that can perhaps deal better with wet soil (conductive soil subtraction) by using General and set MAX FMF to 14. Similarly, per this table it appears that Silver Slayer using FAST with MAX FMF changed to 14 as the base program or using DEEP HC with the same Reactivity Setting as Fast as the base program should behave identically. Similarly, you can perhaps better chase micro targets in wet soil by using Relic with FMF Max set to 40. Or maybe Gold Field set to 24 or 14 might do well better for relic hunting than relic under different soil moisture conditions or different iron pollution levels. Definitely, room for experimentation here. Also, notice, that none of the Dive/Beach programs have a frequency addition counterpart. This makes sense, because the whole point is to subtract out salt soil conductivity. So on dry sand, you might be better off using an inland program (just as is recommended in the Deus 2 User Guide). Finally, another thing to keep in mind, since you can now vary Max FMF Frequency is that battery drain will be mostly dependent on the FMF Max frequency you select, with the lower FMF Max frequencies (not just with Deep HC or Diving) causing higher battery drain. I noticed that the battery drain table in the User Guide was not updated to reflect this. FWIW. Welcome your comments and thoughts on this.

  5. Jim Stewart had success with the 'Bismark' but sometimes spent a lot of time digging deep rubbish. James Beatty along with John Hider-Smith and Jim dug a piece over 30 ozs using one of those coils. They broke a pick and took until midnight to dig it out. Jim also built a big DD coil, but it had to be swung slowly, making it useless for sledding as the target response was too slow. My sledding experience was nothing to brag about as the best that I achieved was a 6 oz bit. What it did do was to eliminate large areas that could have been productive (but weren't). At least I don't have to lay awake at night thinking about what I could of missed. Mono coils are the go for sledding and having tried different configurations I found that round coils worked best for both coverage and depth. With a grid overlap of 50% very little ground was left undetected.

  6. I was thinking along those lines today. My custom program assortment got simplified with the advent of max frequency choice. The names of my current custom programs Iโ€™m tinkering with for land hunting are simply โ€œfreqadd, soilsub, vcoadd, vcosubโ€. I think that frequency addition and soil subtraction have not been given enough thought by many users, but can make a huge difference.

  7. If you are going to go sledding then you need to spend money. No cheapskate option will cut it. You need a diesel tow vehicle with an alternator cut out switch to keep the coil close behind. ( a 4stroke will send your detector nuts with interference) A diesel causes no EMI. A rigid coil frame attached to heavy duty conveyer belt for rugged or abrasive terrain. (Desert country will shred PVC in no time.) The right detector for the job. (I have found the GPX 4000 the best option) These are just the basics but set up right you will easily pick up targets as small as .22 slugs at several inches. Tested on a real big slug (over 90ozs) at over a meter the detector just roared.

  8. Chase, Your perception/thought process should hold true even if there are some differences in the filtering/processing of the signal between the search programs that are unknown. This added ability to limit the max frequency is going to prove very useful for users that take the time to "think" out how they approach a site based on actual conditions. Wet, conductive ground, especially combined with high mineralization or heavy decomposed iron(rusty ground) is a real challenge many do not consider enough. When you get your Program table in a more finalized form showing the possible combinations you will have a powerful tool.

  9. CPT and Rattlehead, I always liked Silver Slayer based of Deep HC vice Fast so that's basically what is going on by doing that, I think, because they are both 14 khz and frequency addition processes (now with the ability to adjust Max FMF). I am looking at a hierarchy of base program process settings to see what programs will behave identically if set up identically. You can then use a combination of a selected base program with the frequency or soil conductivity process you prefer target specific situations such as using a lower frequency with General for Silver Slaying in wet soil (Conductive Soil Subtraction). See this post which expands further on that train of thought.

  11. Nice job on breaking down the list of differences. This Frequency Max addition definitely opens the door for further tailoring each program for our specific needs. With v.71 I had identical coin programs based off of Fast and Deep HC set up side by side. I added another based off of General last night. Looking forward to trying out the new features this weekend. I think the wife has had her fill of me driving her nuts by scanning stuff in our bedroom for the past couple of nights.

  12. Thanks, Rattlehead! BTW, your Silver Slayer program really likes the 14 KHz Max setting! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Yes, I noticed the change to the TID spread. It seems like they spread out the whole range out a bit which I like. Also I think that each Frequency Max and Audio Filter settings may affect that as well. I haven't tried the Audio Filter yet, but I love being able to change the Max Feq for each program. That High Square tones has made me love Pitch tones again. Sweet sounds with nuances too! Also I noticed that they fixed the pinpoint function so it doesn't blast your ears out. And I didn't check what my MI-6 settings were after I re-paired it to the updated remote, but it seems a little deeper to me and sounds good with the High Sqr audio setting. There is still so much to test out, but the fact that I could turn on the new updated D2, load up a custom program, and make good finds at a new site has me just thrilled!

  13. You are correct on the difference. The LG30 was introduced to offer better separation along with lighter weight without losing ground coverage. The design of the LG24 was probably the original idea. The older stock LG28 is a very good coil & a little deeper than the LG30. I intend to get the new CF shaft & arm cuff. I already have all the coils including the big LG35 which is excellent.

  14. You are correct in everything except for the Lower shaft part all the older Legends cam with the carbon fiber lower shaft, the new Legends coming from the nokta factory will come with the new carbon fiber middle shaft, newly designed arm cuff and the new LG30 coil and also will have 1.11 already in the Legend the Older Legends come with a aluminum middle shaft, and carbon fiber Lower shaft and they all had to be updated to 1.11 or for that matter updated to any of the new versions, basically when you add the new LG30 and middle carbon fiber shaft and newly designed arm cuff and LG30 coil you will now have the completely new upgraded Legend that is already updated to 1.11

  15. Ok so I have a legend on the way. It is a pre owned one from a dealer who sold it to the original owner. The dealer installed the current 1.11 firmware in it before he shipped it out to me. So comparing the new one with the one I am going to receive the only difference I see are the coil, arm cuff and carbon fibre lower stem. Am I correct in my research?? For those in the know, why did nokta change the coil? It looked to me like everyone was doing pretty good with the round original stock coil.

  16. Along those lines, I kind of wish they they flexed back on the Base Factory Default Programs to a bare minimum that would give us the basic base program building blocks necessary to branch out and create the custom programs suited to our needs. The reason being, that you can free up slots for saving additional custom prorams. To that Point The Base Factory Default Programs Could be Distilled Down To: 1 - General - Subtraction - 24 khz 2 - Sensitive - Addition - 40 khz (As a minimum, the existing Sensitive FT and Fast Factory Programs which are both based on Sensitive are somewhat redundant and just take up program slots). 3 - Deep - Addition - 14 khz (not essential if covered by Program 2 above) 4 - Mono 5 - Gold Field - Addition - 40 khz 6 - Relic - Subtraction - 24 khz 7 - Deep Salt - 14 khz 8 - Sensitive Salt - 40 khz (not essential - covered by 7 above) Freeing up an additional 4 to 6 Custom Program Slots. If I could request an additional Program it would be Mono variant of the Gold Field/Relic process. Also, the manual input of Custom Programs works but is tedious without a full keyboard for alphanumeric character inputs. On the long-term wishlist: Either provide a means to enter custom programs via phone or computer interface. It is good that custom programs are not wiped after minor version updates. So, hoping if a minor bugfix version is issued in short order (e.g., ver. 1.1) thet my custom programs are not wiped during the update.

  17. I'm all out of likes today, Calmark, so thanks for pointing out the power consumption issue with using the lower 14 KHz Max Frequency. I didn't even think about that and will have to keep an eye on that like I do with Deep HC. Cheers! ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  18. Great analysis and similar to what has occurred to me the past few days while out using v1.0 for around 8 hours now. Nice to visualize the various combinations in table form, so thanks for that. People are definitely going to have to watch their coil battery level more. Just yesterday, I realized I had been in 14khz General program for near an hour. I nearly always avoid DHC P6 since it drains the coil charge pretty fast. I forgot I had changed to 14khz, but luckily I started the day on a full charge and was close to home, ao no harm done. I can see people now forgetting what freq offset they are in for long periods of time and perhaps use the unintended one while swinging or draining a battery faster than expected, so we all have to watch out! Another parrallel that occured to me, and will make sense to Nokta Legend users,is the new offset frequencies for the Deus 2 are similar to how Legend users can toggle M1, M2, and M3 and select their preferred frequency weightings. Most are additive, but M3 is designed to be ground subtractive. The new Park M3 is like the D2 in DHC with its low weighting, and hard-hitting on high conductors. Some food for thought for any Legend owners contemplating getting a D2 in the future.

  19. I can only speak for myself and why I use these different audio settings. I primarily hunt in extremely aluminum trashed areas looking for USA coins and jewelry. I use 6 tones. Each type of US coin has its own distinct tone and target ID range that I setup for it. Some trash items and jewelry have the same tones and IDs as these coins. However for example, if I am specifically looking for US nickels and medium sized gold jewelry within a set number of target IDs, I will check and maybe dig every target with that tone and range of IDs. The same goes for medium high and high conductor US clad and silver coins along with silver jewelry. If I hear the tones I set up for those two categories of coins/jewerly, I know to stop and check out or dig that target. 60 tones will do the same thing with practice if one has really good tonal hearing, lots of experience and doesn't mind listening to micro tones. I am a trained musician that rarely strayed from the half step/whole step tone system used mostly in the USA. Listening to micro tones sounds really out of tune to me and gets painful for me when I am detecting in a really trashy area. When targets are spread out more, I do often use 60 tones. Neither one of these two choices 6 or 60 will automatically go deeper than the other. They have some change in the audio volume to let me know that a target is deeper or shallow but there is not much change in the actual pitch of the target tone. Pitch tone is highly modulated 2 tone VCO audio. I use it for getting maximum depth or for detecting really tiny targets or in areas where targets are likely to be heavily masked by iron trash. The ferrous tone and the non-ferrous tone will dramatically change pitch and volume level according to the targetโ€™s size and proximity to the coil, especially the non-ferrous tone. Whenever I am hunting in an area with lots of iron trash, when I'm gold nugget prospecting or when I just want maximum depth, unmasking ability and really only need a 2 tone ferrous versus non ferrous audio indication, I pick a VCO audio like Pitch tones.

  23. Thanks Doc! I was lucky to get any slope at all, most of the ravines here are precipitous drops from 50 to 100 feet, and right at the tree line. This is Mid Atlantic jungle, very thick undergrowth that makes an area impenetrable in a short time. I agree that a lot of good finds can be made along these drop offs if you can get to them. ๐Ÿ‘ If you're really enterprising, you can dig in the berms created to control erosion. In most farm fields here there are a few "zones", the Turn Zone where they turned plow animals, the Hunting Zone where they watch the woods for prey chased out by hunting dogs affording a clear shot, and the Rabbit Hunt Zone, right next to the edge. Great stuff is found in all of these, the rest is pretty random. Turn Zone produces buttons and some coins, hunting zone is pocket knives, gun parts, coins and tools, rabbit zone is coins and some buttons from brush entanglement.

  24. The Rutus VERSA .....looks really good in terms of technical parameters... ,,I'd say excellent.....So we'll see what this detector can do in Terrain...on Monday I'll have the opportunity to test this detector..and compare it...for example with my really good..detectors that I have...๐Ÿ‘ But now I think it's the detector... that many detectorists have been waiting for... - waterproof multi-frequency detector with static and pseudo-static mode / All metal / with tone identification + possibility of Mix mode... which predicts excellent depth parameters... even in really difficult terrains... with fast separation in iron, and in addition to VDI, the graphic display of the target signal/hodograph/ gives an idea of the great potential of this detector in practical detection... The low weight and compact dimensions of the detector also meet the standards... Upgrading the software of the detector with the help of Wifi gives the possibility to upgrade the software of the Rutus VERSA detector directly in the field and with the help of a mobile phone or laptop... As a tester of its predecessor /Rutus Atrex/ and testing of various software.. I know something about it .. and it is an outstanding feature.. which can keep and keep the detector current even in the future....!!! ....Furthermore, I think that Rutus VERSA is a detector that will really compete for a place in popularity on the worldwide detector market.....

  26. This is a semi in the ground test on a 0.1 gram gold nugget for anyone that would like to use one of the "do it all" simultaneous multi frequency VLFs for gold prospecting. For the "fairness" police, please don't complain about coil sizes. The smallest coil available for Deus 2 is the 9" coil. So blame XP not me. XP include a simultaneous multi frequency "Gold Prospecting" mode on Deus 2. I would like to use it. This video shows why currently I will not use it. Video starts with checking the test area ground for targets, ground balancing, showing the target and how it is placed in the ground and then the test begins. Deus 2 uses customized FMF Goldfield and customized single frequency Mono program both with sensitivity on 95. I wanted to use the Hi Square audio, Pitch tones and the absolute zero discrimination for both programs along with a slight threshold. That is why I did not use stock default programs. All settings are as identical as I can make them except for the new Audio Filter feature which is on setting 1 for FMF Goldfield custom program 16 and it is on 0 for 40 kHz Mono custom program 15 which was an oversight failure on my part. I did retry it after making the video with FMF Goldfield custom program having Audio filter on 0. It made zero difference. Legend starts at 3:25 of the video. It uses its 6" coil with sensitivity on 23 in Gold Multi and Gold 40 kHz. Equinox 900 starts at 6:00 of the video. It uses its 6" coil with sensitivity on 23 in Gold 1 Multi and Gold 1 40 kHz. All settings are clearly shown in the video for each program being used on each detector. The ruler sticking up out of the ground behind the target is 5 cm high and the target itself is 2" deep or roughly another 5 cm deep. Legend and Equinox in the Gold Multi modes can hit this target 5 cm above the ground. They can hit it at 4 cm above the ground using single frequency 40 kHz. Deus 2 using its 40 kHz Mono program also hit this target at 4 cm above the ground. We could debate about whether Deus 2 in FMF Goldfield is actually hitting the target even with the coil bumping into the target holder. Deus 2's mineralization meter is between half and 3/4th full so moderate to high mineralization which all three detectors struggle with when ground balancing in selectable single frequency 40 kHz. This video is being sent to XP. I sent XP an email and they replied within 24 hours which I really appreciate. Thank You XP!!!!! This is the email exchange between me and XP: HI Jeff Thanks for this feedback. Yes you have right the 40khz of the DEUS II would perform very well if available also in the gold Field Program, as the mono frequencies from the DEUS II are more powerfull than DEUS 1. We will think to make this availabe in the next version. Regards XP TEAM Message : XP, thank you very much for the Deus ll software update version 1.0 and for making it Mac compatible. I am a gold prospector. I use VLF and Pulse Induction detectors. I use a VLF detector for detecting the smallest bits of gold in the 0.5 gram and much smaller size range. I have used Deus 1 and ORX for this. They work very well in their Gold modes. I would like to use Deus 2 for gold prospecting. However, even after updating to version 1.0, Deus 2 FMF Goldfield sensitivity to very small gold nuggets 0.5 gram and smaller down to 0.01 grams is extremely poor. Deus 2 Mono or Fast 40 outperform Deus 2 FMF Goldfield on these types of targets by up to 5cm. One of my test nuggets is 0.08 grams. It can only be detected using FMF Goldfield at 3cm. Fast 40 and Deus 2 Mono will easily detect this same small nugget at 8cm. Being able to use FMF technology in highly mineralized gold prospecting areas would be really beneficial. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, FMF Goldfield's insensitivity on small to very small bits of easily detectable gold using Deus 2 Mono is still very disappointing.

  27. We can't call in Velcroยฎ because Velcroยฎ is a trademark name. We use 3M Hook and Loop. But to answer your question Yes the shade cover is attached with Hook and Loop and removeable. The shade cover also has a piece of aluminum strip in it, just like in the nose piece of the masks we all wore for so long. So it has some ability to be molded to your liking. I also have covers being made in the same Digital Camo for Manticores, Equinox 900's and Xterra Pro's. Some of the Minelab staff has already expressed displeasure with some of the covers that are being offered for these machines, because they have no mesh over the speaker. Not only does this impede the sound from the speaker it does not allow heat to be adequately dissipated from the detector. This can cause damage to the detector as well as screen black outs. Doc

  28. Excellent food for thought, Chase! I feel like there are other differences in some of the programs, such as which lower frequencies may be in use for each. I think the Sensi/Fast programs are probably the same base frequency weightings but I could be wrong. Regardless, I can see the potential in your concept and realize the advantages to that line of thinking when creating programs for different scenarios. More tools for the kit and more experimenting to be done. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

  29. Yes. The rusty ground scenario is one of the main reasons why I mainly ended up using General as my go to base program. Rusty bits along with coal ash even in fairly dry ground can really affect things.

  33. Some say pitch tones gives more information about the target. Some say 60 tones is overwhelming. Some can't stand pitch tones, and prefer the bell like tones. Some prefer to use 1 tone. Some are just the opposite of all that ๐Ÿ™‚ It's really subjective and personal preference. For example, even if you think pitch tones gives more information, you're probably not going to use pitch tones if you don't like that type of sound.

  34. Nice finds! I have mine updated, but haven't had the time to try it out yet, other than just testing some coins in the house. Seeing how well you guys are doing with it has me excited! Have any of you guys noticed that in some programs nickels seem to read a couple of digits lower than before, and in other programs quarters seem to read a digit or two lower? Seems like they changed something with the way it normalizes TID. Might be worth noting in programs that use a lot of notch. In a couple of mine, I went ahead and dropped the nickel bin from 59-65 to 57-64.

  35. So far, the only two people who have any experience with 'drag' coils have said 'flat out' that ya gotta mount the thing behind a vehicle. NE, I strongly envisage that you will put the thing together, get it running, give it a try dragging it about in the scrub personally for half an hour, then throw the thing into the back of the ute and curse that you ever thought of it. Hope I'm wrong, but its no fun attempting to pull a wide, heavy object for hours each day.....let alone attempting to dodge bushes, trees and rocks & snapping your head behind you every few seconds to check that you've avoided the last bush or tree. Sounds like a nightmare to me.....

  40. Nice job on the shiny! As an Eagle Scout, I think the scouting button is pretty cool, and definitely looks old.

  42. Bill, I think the advantage was better coverage under the coil, especially for really small gold. You are correct about getting around the patent. Now we have the spiral-wound coils which accomplish the same thing. Apparently lots of ways to skin that cat. That said, I have both a 7 1/2DF, and a straight mono 8 x 6 Sadie, and can tell very little difference between them, though if I had to choose, I'd give the very slight edge to the DF, thoughit might be my bias showing...LOL Jim

  45. Phrunt I hear what you're saying, but I know you Aussies, you would all be complaining because the 10 ounce nuggets in the pocket on the detector cover adds too much weight. What kind of scoop are you using that fits in your pocket. I never put a scoop in my pocket. Too easy to lose the scoop. Doc

  46. Dunno if you resolved it but the problem is you have the WS6 in master mode. Turn on the remote first with WS6 off, put remote in pairing searching for Headphones, then do a long press of the WS6 power ("minus") until the remote sees the WS6 and pairs with it, which puts it in slave mode

  47. I included the link to the patent information to answer exactly what the DF coils are, but yes, basically they are just mono coils. Mono does not mean a single round loop of wire. Thatโ€™s just the most common and simple way to do it. Mono is about a single winding alternating as a transmit and receive, not how the winding is laid out. โ€œNot monoโ€ means the is one winding acting as a transmit and another as a receive. Combined alternating functions in one winding (mono) versus functions separated into dedicated windings (not mono). Which is what I said in my first answer assuming people knew that I guess.

  49. Wheels and PVC tubing to make a sled are certainly an option too. I am trying to keep it really simple for a couple of reasons though. The first is so that there is less to go wrong out in the field. Second is that the more moving parts means it is more complex to make and everything needs to be metal free. Not impossible but harder. The third is that I will certainly use it here in Victoria on farms, etc, but it is really being purchased to take to the wide opens spaces of Western Australia. Something like Woody's loop could be easily shipped to my brother-in-law in Perth before I fly across there and he can simply have some conveyor belt and ropes organised. The ideas around the sled make up are appreciated but it is more the make up of the coil that is the concept that is outside my boundaries. I have had a generous offer of assistance from a Prospecting Australia member to provide some info around that and will definitely keep you updated re: if I proceed with making the coil myself ๐Ÿ˜Š
