The first day that I hunted the old hop pickers camp was back in the late 70's with a Whites Coinmaster. Thats the day that I dug the coat button? missing it's eyelet and the nicest and most interesting Oriental coin that I have ever found.I pounded the place pretty hard for a couple of years with the Whites and later a Garrett Groundhog and found a fair amount of decent stuff. I then moved on and left the place that has been hiding in plain site on the back burner so to speak.Fast forward forty three years later and I thought why not once again try to acquire permission which was granted and see what the Deus 1 and 2 and maybe NOX 800 can sniff out? So far the second identical button and the little pendant have made the effort well worth it.11 points

June 9 2002 Part Two We removed the sprocket and Jim and I took it along with the chain to a shop in town to see what could be done. The trommel itself was old and had seen a lot of mining in its day. At the machine shop they told us the best thing to do was order a new chain and sprocket as repairing them would not last and we’d be throwing our money away. It would take about a week to ten days to get the sprocket and the chain would come in five business days. So we were shut down. It was late morning when we got back to camp with the bad news. Jacob was still working away at the gold cleanup and we were now reduced to working with the tom again. So we set it up and by the time that was done it was nearly 2:00 PM and it was hot. None of us were in too good of a mood but we started to shovel pay gravel into the tom. At least we had the excavator to do the digging. By dusk we had processed 30 yards of pay gravel and called it a day. We cleaned out the tom and brought it over to Jacobs cleanout station for him to work on tomorrow. He had already finished up the concentrates from the 250 yard run and we were all anxious to see the results. There were 13 ounces of gold in the finish pan. Jacob didn’t like the number 13 much and said it was bad luck. Vern said he was thinking it would have been double that. We just laughed and said gold is gold and cracked open some cold beers as we fired up the cook stove. Jacob brought out a bottle of Bushmills and we all had a couple of shots of the good Irish whisky and chased them with the beers. We all had another round as the hot dogs and beans were cooked up and pretty soon we forgot all about the broken down trommel. TO BE CONTINUED .................7 points

...Last night I returned to the same beach, I knew that I had left gold; I could 'almost' smell it. And I wasn't wrong... A DANA has passed through the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula and has brought waves of more than 2 meters. You have to go out there and play, now! The night started with a silver bracelet signed by PANDORA, we're doing well... A lot of old currency, in Spain pesetas were used before the arrival of the euro. There were quite a few! The wind was beginning to take its toll on me, it was the second day in a row and my strength was beginning to falter. Another silver ring!... I found a patch where targets kept coming out, another hard coin, a lead bear and BANG!!!! Gold wedding band. Almost 10 grams in a couple of nights, thank goodness it was a 'starter' detector. I have already passed the limit of 100 hours (this weekend I try it with the other coils for real) and I can only say the same as a famous Spanish bullfighter: Im-presionante!!! I am exhausted and with a smile that does not fit on my face...😁6 points

Spent 16 days in Rye Patch area in Nevada recently using the 6000 for the first time in gold country. Found 3 small nugets the first day, one the second and one the third, this is going to be good! Ha, went dry for the next 10 days and finaly found 2 more day 14 then 1 more on day 15 for a total of 6.8 grams. Not a large amount but found nothing last year in 10 days so I at least beat the skunk. Had 2 days of beat-down rain and one day of un-bearable wind, several days of cold weather but the last 2 days were beautiful. Met a few good folks also prospecting, alwasys fun to talk with them about finding gold. Good luck to all in your search.5 points

First outing with 1.0 yesterday. Nothing great but it was a city park and you can see that the coins have been there for a spell, most 7 to 8 inches with lots of trash. But what got me is the saw medallion! It is the size of a quarter and was a solid signal, pinpointed in bottom of hole and measured at 17 inches!!!! This was with a 9 inch coil. Using the general in full tones.5 points

My X-Pro is working well, pulled this collector coin out of my yard where the nox has detected quite a few times, I was really surprised. I think any experienced user will have no trouble finding good targets. It's target ID is very similar to the M-Core (jumpy) and it also seems to shift up/down the scale a bit when changing frequencies. I have dug several rivet heads, they look like tiny aluminum washers, its sensitive. I think it would keep up with most detectors costing twice as much. A comparison between the Vanquish and X-pro would be interesting.4 points

My guess is they used the word "free" as a form of marketing, to say look we do updates to our detector for free which improve performance, I highly doubt they're considering charging for updates. The reason for signing up to their website to be able to get updates is nothing unusual either, it's great for marketing and research purposes. They harvest every Deus users email address and send them newsletters and the like of their new products and whatever else they feel like sending out. It's the same reason Minelab request you sign up to their site to register your warranty, it's information harvesting, you have warranty regardless as you have your receipt from the dealer with date of purchase, there is really no need to sign up at all and when people say oh but it's so they have your detector registered so it makes warranty easier it makes it no different, your proof of purchase is still required to claim the warranty as registering the warranty has no proof of date of purchase, only the receipt does that.4 points

Health advisory out to stay indoors due to heavy smoke from many fires around the area. I went out and purchased a couple of N95 masks so I could breath safely. I shifted gears a bit today. I pre-screened my gold containing gravel down to 10 mesh, which took me about 1 1/2 hours for 3 x 5 gallon buckets. I then set up my California Mini highbanker, ran it with less angle and less flow due to the 10 mesh feed. It was really relaxing for the next 1 1/2 hours to feed the highbanker. I just sat on a bucket and fed the highbanker. It also took about 30 minutes to feed each bucket. I did 3 clean-ups and was really surprised at how much gold I got. Life is good!3 points

Personnaly I would never pay for a detector software update, whatever the brand . Not only because of the money , but because of the risks of being hacked . It is always risky to give bank accounts infos to a site . Only Amazon and Microsoft have mine ...3 points

Doesn’t exist and will likely never exist. If I need to cover ALL the bases, I need at last two different types of detectors. A PI and an induction balance VLF. If I were forced to only possess two detectors (not counting a pinpointer) they would be (right now) the Garrett Axiom and the Deus 2 - I would have prospecting, hot dirt relic/coin, salt beach, submerged fresh and saltwater, coin and jewelry shooting, meteorite hunting, contest hunting, hoard hunting all covered. They are able to be broken down such that I could put them both in a backpack and pack them in to a remote area on foot, e bike, or ATV.3 points

I've had it since the end of March. You're going to love it!!!! I also sold my Legend, I couldn't tune in with it either... On the Mw beach I think it is too weighted for high conductors, there is no way to get gold... Stability runs at 5 in Factory settings, I don't get it, you're losing gold! Everything that does not "understand" goes to ID 11, in short, an error (in my case). The X-Terra Pro will be paid soon, It has got more Gold in a month than the Legend in a year. You will tell us...3 points

Update. The WS6 drained down overnight and shut off by morning. I recharged it during the day and when I got home I turned on my remote first, selected the wireless phone option and got the message to hold down the (-) on the WS6. I held it down for a good 8-10 seconds until it indicated it was successfully paired, and it then operated correctly as slave. It turns off and on with the remote now and functions as it should. I'm not sure exactly what I did to cause it to lock up but it appears to be resolved.2 points

I was starting to think about how the ability to adjust Max FMF for any Factory Program might affect our ability to better customize Deus II FMF for just about any situation and to better visualize the similarity between base Factory Program capabilities with the additional degree of freedom this new feature proivides. First I had to organize the programs into a specific hierarchy. It is a work in progress but it basically racks out as follows: FMF or Selectable Single Frequency (Under Single we only have Program 7 - Mono) Under FMF there are basically Three Groups Disc Process (e.g., all the non-salt, discrimination programs such as General, Sensitive, Park, Deep HC) IAR Process (i.e., Gold Field and Relic) Disc - Salt Process (i.e., Dive, Beach, and Beach Sensitive) Under 2 of the 3 base processes above you have two categories (Note: Disc - Salt only uses Conductive soil subtraction) Frequency Addition (Disc Example: Sensitive; IAR Example: Gold Field; Disc - Salt Example: None) or Conductive Soil Subtraction (Disc Example: General; IAR Example: Relic; Disc - Salt Example: Diving) Finally, under each of these processes you can select one of 3 Max FMF Frequencies: 14, 24, or 40 In tabular form it looks like this: MAX FMF FREQ (kHz) FAST MULTI-FREQUENCY (FMF) SEL SINGLE FREQ DISC IAR SALT MONO - 7 ADD SUB ADD SUB ADD SUB 14 DEEP HC - 6 X X X N/A DIVING - 10 24 PARK - 5 X X RELIC - 9 N/A BEACH - 11 40 SENSITIVE/FT/FAST - 2, 3, 4 GENERAL - 1 GOLD FIELD - 8 X N/A BEACH SENS - 12 Sorry about the clunky formatting, but just trying to do this fast on the fly. The X's mark areas that are not covered by a default Factory Program. So, for example, you can create a custom Silver Slayer variant that can perhaps deal better with wet soil (conductive soil subtraction) by using General and set MAX FMF to 14. Similarly, per this table it appears that Silver Slayer using FAST with MAX FMF changed to 14 as the base program or using DEEP HC with the same Reactivity Setting as Fast as the base program should behave identically. Similarly, you can perhaps better chase micro targets in wet soil by using Relic with FMF Max set to 40. Or maybe Gold Field set to 24 or 14 might do well better for relic hunting than relic under different soil moisture conditions or different iron pollution levels. Definitely, room for experimentation here. Also, notice, that none of the Dive/Beach programs have a frequency addition counterpart. This makes sense, because the whole point is to subtract out salt soil conductivity. So on dry sand, you might be better off using an inland program (just as is recommended in the Deus 2 User Guide). Finally, another thing to keep in mind, since you can now vary Max FMF Frequency is that battery drain will be mostly dependent on the FMF Max frequency you select, with the lower FMF Max frequencies (not just with Deep HC or Diving) causing higher battery drain. I noticed that the battery drain table in the User Guide was not updated to reflect this. FWIW. Welcome your comments and thoughts on this.2 points

Purdy! The tromels and dredge look nice, and the little excavator takes quarters, right? Actually that’s a cool little rig. Also, I wouldn’t put that Axiom on the same shelf as the 6000s, you might end up with some weird hybrid detector…😉 Have a great time!2 points

When you say jumpy, that can be a good thing, it could mean the machine is not locking on targets too aggressively. Once your onto a target try to isolate it and tighten up your passes over it. Also hit it in different angles. I do quite a bit of hunting with a Gold Racer that doesn't lock onto targets and this can be helpful when sniffing out targets that are mixed. I often find coin spills, pocket knives, even found an old silver plated whip handle that had an iron screw through it. Nice token.2 points

Heh, I bow to JCR and a few others, seems like they've seen a lot of relics. I just use Google Lens, and hit paydirt now and again, a lifetime of searching for stuff on the Internet has given me some skill. That and sort of a relentless spirit. Yours took less than a minute! 😀 I've only found one Cash coin with no details in one of the farms I have permission to. Let's say the "immigrant" laborers here weren't exactly minters of currency. I'm fascinated with how old some of those are, and it takes quite a bit of searching to identify one. The details have to be sharp. Some of them are very old. Really love the stuff Western and Western-ish detectorists find. 👍 It doesn't have to be too old to be rare and cool.2 points

After a few days of research and some preliminary testing, I now have 4 "beta" programs ready to test on the beach. Taking what I've read from XP and this forum from well founded and credible contributors, I did some preliminary testing of various settings. I now have 4 modified programs that I'll take to our saltwater beaches and tweak as necessary until I find the right combination with which I feel confidently comfortable. My 4 "beta" programs are based on: Beach Sensitive, Beach, Diving, and Gold Field. Once tweaked, I'll post my thoughts on each. Keep in mind, those posts may be worth exactly what you paid for them if blindly applied to your specific situation and particular environment. 😁 As I always say, Predetermined settings only gets you in the ball park. It's up to you to pick the best seat. 😉 In summary, I'm very impressed with V1.0's potential, flexibility and enhanced performance. A modified Beach Sensitive, particularly, promises to be a beast for my kind of hunting. More later....2 points

I’m on board with the good Captain and F350 in that I’ll be keeping V1.0 for the long term. Still in the experimentation phase but have zeroed in on 4 modified programs I’ll be testing at the beach with an eye on fine tuning them for saltwater beaches. In short, I’m both encouraged and impressed. Good job Captain…2 points

Some things to think about or try: Did everything indicate the update completed sat? Did the lock up occur after you disconnected the puck and self restart or on a subsequent power up? Were you just checking that it powered up fine or were you trying to pair with the remote or a coil in Master mode? If attempting pair with the remote, attempt re- pairing by holding down the minus button as suggested above? Is it paired with a coil? If so, is the coil in range (it may be trying to search for the coil to do the shift)? Did you try plugging the puck back into the laptop with the updater loaded to see if that snaps it out of the lockup? Worst case, you might have to wait for the puck battery to be depleted so it can power off reset on its own. Contact XP in the mean time. HTH2 points

I don't like it when I have to make a video about a detector's deficiency in one or more aspects of detecting. I also don't like waiting months for a software update to possibly make that deficiency better. I am not getting any younger and swinging 3+ lbs detectors is no longer my favorite thing no matter how well they detect. So, I didn't buy a Deus 2 so that it would sit at home when I decide to do some gold prospecting with a VLF. I also didn't include a simultaneous multi frequency program called Gold Field on Deus 2. XP did and they screwed up that program. I have been saying and backing this up with three different videos since I got my hands on one. Other very experienced USA based gold prospectors have said the same. After almost a year and a half of waiting for a software update or at least an answer to my emails to XP, I did finally get a very good response that makes me feel hopeful. XP have acknowledged in writing that there really is a problem with that program. Until it is fixed I won't be using it for gold prospecting. Instead I would pick four different SMF detectors over Deus 2. Two are in the video I linked. Two more were mentioned by Chase. I would also pick an XP Deus 1 or an ORX over Deus 2 for gold prospecting 10 times out of 10 right now since they can use the HF coils. Unfortunately I sold my Deus 1 and ORX in order to but Deus 2. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with my purchase of a Deus 2. I want to be clear. There is nothing subjective or just a matter of opinion about Deus 2's FMF Goldfield being very inferior even to its own Mono program. It's a fact. Some people have said "hey, who cares I mean, I don't use my Deus 2 for gold prospecting......" Well, I care and I am not going to shut up about it until its fixed. If XP can make FMF Goldfield at least as good as its competitors, I might actually finally be able to say that Deus 2 is the best detector I have ever used for where I hunt, the way I hunt and for the targets I hunt. Hope that answers your challenge to name some competitors.2 points

I will have one Friday. I just sold my Legend which I never bonded with at all. I had an Xterra 705 and it was my most productive time of detecting ever. I loved it but sold it to get a Nox. Now my main detector is my Deus 2. i got the XTP as a backup and to keep in my car. Not worried as storage up to 157 Fahrenheit is ok according to Minelab. My car never gets anything close to that- maybe 110 at thee we extreme. I’m even going wired lightweight headphones with the Xterra bc I don’t want to be having to charge wireless ones and don’t want to buy anything additional- just the $265 main purchase. Erratic IDs don’t worry me at all. Not sure I’ll love the 12x9 coil but it is an ideal all rounder. Previous poster said has square non rotatable coil shaft and was hoping for round to make flat when collapsed, so might have to remove for when back packed. However, it isn’t going to be my main detector and there’s a lot I like - plus the 705 was a magic wand to me and I think I’m going to bond to my Xterra pro as well. I’ll let y’all know soon enough. So far this Year getting out to detect has been hard, but that will change now.2 points

The battery for my WM12 stopped charging and was dead, zero volts with the multimeter so it was either buy a new WM12 for about $350 AUD or try and find a replacment battery. I ended up finding one online and it cost $25 AUD including postage so I ordered it and it arrived and I fitted it, it is just plug and play nothing to hard at all. The WM12 now charges and works perfectly again This is the replacement battery if anyone is interested or has a similar problem and this is the original battery cheers dave1 point

Given the supposed capability based on prior units(Alter 71 & Atrex) and the very high degree of adjustability to suit advanced users, it will be a top tier detector. Features like True threshold based All Metal & Mixed Mode aren't even offered by other major manufacturers. If it is introduced at a reasonable price it will be a formidable competitor and their Dealer network will expand. They have contracted to have it produced in a very modern facility that should have any needed production capacity. It may be like the Whites VCi3 or even Deus and seem too complicated to many but there are enough serious detector cranks in the world to make it a success. I intend to give it serious consideration since many of my sites on on difficult ground. I already have enough high performance daily drivers. Having something that can really push the boundaries would be interesting & fun. It may still be a while before Nokta introduces their PI & the Axiom is too much for me to justify.1 point

Boy Howdy 350 you're the man when it comes to researching and figuring out what stuff is.I had no idea that what I thought was just a fancier and scarcer version of the commonly found Chinese cash coin would turn out to be a souvenir token! I was using the d 1 with the skinny HF coil on that trip anticipating a lot of weeds.I'm going back soon and will be moving a ton of deadfall and removing an old barbed wire fence that was lying flat on the ground when I was there forty years ago and expect some good targets to come available.I found the peace dollar that I used for scale complete with the big scratch that i Put in it in 1974 at the old catholic church in the town that I grew up in.Thanks!1 point

Yeah I’m not reading too much into it either. If they didn’t say “free”, new users would question whether or not they’d be charged if they clicked on it. Marketers are darned if they do or darned if they don’t. Either way they don’t care because it’s the support team that has to deal with what they did😀1 point

Tom - Jeff answered your question with a link to the relevant post. But since that didn't quite answer your question... D2 is highly versatile under a variety of detecting situations and objectives and is ultra light and ultra configurable (e.g., WS6 Master config) due to its wireless coil based system. However. some detectors can give D2 a run for the money or are superior in specific ways over the D2. Legend - Better Overall Value/Great accessory coil selection. Nox 800/900 - Better at sub gram gold detection. Though the 900 TIDs are less stable than D2. Manticore - As good or deeper than D2 in wet salt sand, doesn't require antenna claptrap that is required by D2. Manticore TID stability is also lacking vs. the D2.1 point

Yes. The rusty ground scenario is one of the main reasons why I mainly ended up using General as my go to base program. Rusty bits along with coal ash even in fairly dry ground can really affect things.1 point

A good start to the week with a few bits of gold at my usual hunting grounds and an old Queensland Boy Scouts button along Endeavour Creek.. This is my first old looking button.. I know it doesn't compare to a Civil War or Gallipoli button but no one can accuse it of being a modern marvel.. I did first think it was military but then recognized the Boy Scout symbol.. This find was the result of following an impulse to have a looksee in a grassy patch amongst the foreshore scrub.. I also found another silver florin (1943) and two pennies in the same spot..1 point

Well, more power and kudos to you guys. I have to admit that at 65 the passion for detecting has been fading for me after over 50 years at the game. Good finds, whether they are silver coins or gold nuggets, are just getting sparser all the time. Even gold jewelry, which I thought would renew forever, is fading, as young people wear tungsten, titanium, or even plastic rings! That platinum ring find is now far more likely to be tungsten. I guess the real problem is I was spoiled by too many years of great detecting, and now hitting a place for two days for a single silver dime or a few smaller gold nuggets is not floating my boat as much. Gardening is looking better all the time.1 point

That looks like the old iron bar that I have seen before in grandfathers garage. I bet it is close to 9 in long, 1 1/2 in wide and about 3/4 in thick. Should that be the case it is from the early 1800's and would be stock items that blacksmiths would make a lot of items from. The x's on it was the grade of the iron as x would be the highest grade. Grandfather told me this years ago and I was fascinated about what he told me about a lot of his relics that he had. Good luck on finding out more about it.1 point

I've lacked that confidence in my ability finding gold as it's so much harder than coin and jewellery detecting, it's been a hard thing to overcome and has taken me quite a while, the more I find over time the more that confidence is building, it helped I got my equipment to the level I could not blame my equipment so the only thing left in the equation was me. It probably didn't help the guy I often go detecting with (JW) is some kind of gold freak, I have no idea how he does it, it's extremely rare he goes home empty handed, laser focus on the goal and many years of experience I guess and the guy can dig, all day you hear the chink chink of his pick digging. Great person to learn off that's for sure. When I was running my 4500 and JW his GPZ with X-coils I had an excuse especially as our gold areas are often small deeper gold, once we had the same equipment the excuses were gone, I had to focus and improve. Good videos, I'd watched them previously but it was a good refresher. One of the most important things when looking for gold is confidence, if I go out expecting to find nothing I often do, if I'm full of confidence before arriving I often come home with a grin on my face and a rattle in my bottle.1 point

I haven't been keeping up with Minelab's progress now I'm no longer a share holder, fortunately I did get out at a good time, so this is a month or so late but interesting none the less. I took a few tidbits from the documents which can be read in full here: https://codan.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2512906.pdf https://codan.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/2512925.pdf Starting with the Chief Executives introduction message. It's surprising to see how much Communications has taken over metal detection as the better part of their business, even in R&D they're spending far more on communications now reflecting that market performance I guess. Some bad news for dealers, they're investing more in e-commerse, we all know what they means, there will be more buying direct from Minelab and cutting out middle men smaller dealers like they've recently done in Malaysia and Indonesia with their own buy direct website - https://minelab.co.id/ You'll likely need to click on the images to see them in a readable form depending on your screen size. It's interesting the key markets for Gold Detectors are Asia Pacific, yep that includes me 🙂, not the USA though. The USA is in the treasure detectors category as a key market. Latin America is a key market for the Gold Detectors though. I guess not many Americans look for gold anymore by comparison to other countries. The near term strategy is just to focus on marketing and selling the new Manticore and Nox 700/900, so it doesn't look like we'll see another detector out of Minelab this year, the long awaited CTX and GPZ replacements are a long way away yet, although this was also interesting. See smaller dealers, increase E-Commerse penetration, they're wanting to do that into more markets! It will eventually be big box stores and E-Commerse (Minelab direct sales) They didn't consider the Equinox to be a high end machine, more of a mid range and this Manticore is considered a CTX level machine, maybe there never will be a CTX 4040. The best coin and treasure detector on the market they say, more accurate discrimination at depth they say....... not sure I can agree with that statement. Now lets have a look at performance..... Not looking too crash hot, it shows that gold detectors and Africa were vital to their good figures. Africa then.... and now A massive drop in sales to Africa. The USA is making up some of that slack with the treasure detectors, the Americans must be buying up Manticores and Nox's in big numbers. Not looking good at all, no matter how it's spun. So, I guess we won't see anymore new detectors this year, it's very unlikely, surprising the X-Terra didn't even get a mention although it's not a high profit detector, it's to remain competitive at that end of the market and won't be a big money maker regardless of sales I would think. Engineering investment is now favouring communcations where the money is being made more so than metal detection. Lucky for me I'm in no rush to buy any new detectors, in fact I may not buy another Minelab in quite some time, I can't see me buying their new GPZ when it comes out unless it's significantly better than my GPZ with X-coils and I have my doubts especially when I don't care about ergonomics, I'm not paying a massive amount of money for a GPZ on a diet. I doubt I'd even buy the new CTX unless there was some dramatic improvement in performance and the Manticore which I did buy isn't really that great big jump over the Equinox, and in many ways for my needs still well behind the CTX that's a decade old. Maybe their engineers have finally hit the wall when it comes to performance.1 point

For me I agree with the basic assessment that each ML even each ML VLFs were a step up, the first PI SD2000 was a big step on the VLFs, the 2100 another fairly big step, as you noted the 2200 was only a little step with its discrimination and auto GB after that each PI model had refinements with the 5000 the best for highly mineralized ground and then the ZVT Z was a few steps up in one hit, no cables, wireless speaker and increased depth and sensitivity plus more ergonomic ( I can hear lots rebelling to that)😉 I trust ML and have since the SD2100, simply ordering the next model well before release thus overall I rate ML above all other gold detector manufacturers, light years above, they are the "Microsoft" of Metal Detectors.1 point
