  1. Spent 16 days in Rye Patch area in Nevada recently using the 6000 for the first time in gold country. Found 3 small nugets the first day, one the second and one the third, this is going to be good! Ha, went dry for the next 10 days and finaly found 2 more day 14 then 1 more on day 15 for a total of 6.8 grams. Not a large amount but found nothing last year in 10 days so I at least beat the skunk. Had 2 days of beat-down rain and one day of un-bearable wind, several days of cold weather but the last 2 days were beautiful. Met a few good folks also prospecting, alwasys fun to talk with them about finding gold. Good luck to all in your search.

  2. Well wife did great with the Manti today she found a nice Pandora silver bracelet. Me I was playing with the new D2 software and programs, but managed to get a couple bucks in change (still not as impressive as the bracelet). Yep I know it’s a shocker I am usually swinging my pulse machine at the beach. Just determined to figure the D2 out and been hunting high in lots of trash. Our beaches have an harsh slope right now. Doesn’t matter if it is low or high tide the waves hitting roughly in same area through tide cycle. Also glad that XP got the installer working on the Mac’s now as well as the new features they added to the machine. So the funny thing is I found a Pandora silver charm years ago at a park. Well it fits bracelet perfectly. Designed for it — imagine that. Back at it tomorrow! Maybe my turn for silver of course hoping for gold or platinum. I can dream!

  3. My goal was to see if I could sniff out any high conductors from the iron using General, Full Tones. It has been killer on the mid conductors but the iron falsing in version 7.1 was not amenable to me hearing any high conductors. This site has lots 200- to 300-year-old crusty blobs of iron that have a big halo. Falsing is pretty constant. Anyway, I had hopes that V1.0 would help tame the iron falsing, and it did help. Still had squeaks popping through but it was a noticeable improvement over V7.1. I set the max frequency to 14 kHz as my focus was high conductors. I didn’t find any but that was no surprise at all. This is a small colonial era home site less than a quarter acre in size that has been detected to death. After having no luck with 14 kHz, I raised the frequency back up to 40. It’s been my experience that the higher frequencies will give you better separation in the iron, but it is also my experience that the higher frequencies will get fooled on iron more than the lower frequencies. Since I had already jacked the Silencer up to 4, I thought I would raise my Disc from 6 to 10 to see if that would help with the falsing. But for the heck of it I lowered the Disc all the way to -6.4 and much to my surprise that helped the falsing quite a bit! I haven’t figured that out yet. I went over the site again and this time around I dug a few buttons, a very small thin cufflink and a few bits of lead and pewter. Most were collocated with iron. Once again, anytime a midtone comes through, even a scratchy one, it is almost always a nonferrous. This was my first time out with V1.0 and I was happy with its performance. But still a lot to learn. I really like the enhanced Iron Volume and the Silencer is an improvement. I didn’t play with Audio Filter or the FE TID. I think Bottle Cap reject would have helped with the falsing on those blobs of rusty iron. I’ll add that in next time out. I’m really intrigued as to why the negative Disc helped with the falsing ?? 4. After I get the bag to fit the way I need, I cut a small hole and insert the headphone cable, then seal with duct tape. Gives enough protection in a sudden rain storm and the ocean spray that comes with a heavy wind. I don't venture deeper than maybe 2-4" into the water and I use an arm cuff to prevent dropping the detector into the water.

  5. People put far too much importance in the detector and not enough in their own ability, the location they're hunting and last but not least the chance a good target is under their coil at the time. Let's face it, even the direction you hit the target can change the results.... to many variables to just say one detector found me this in flogged ground and if I wasn't using this detector I would not have found it. I applaud anyone that does well with a lower cost detector, it means they don't buy into the have to have the best or you'll find nothing mantra that seems ever so common among detector users.

  6. The wheeled rig in the photo might be okay for finding cannon balls but useless for prospecting. Note how far the ATV is from the coil. That is because it is 4 stroke and would play hell with the electronics, plus the lead being so long would suffer from voltage drop. I've tried the wheel setup but found it impractical. Too much jolting resulting in false signalling. The conveyer belt is very smooth, partly because of the weight, which makes it impractical for towing by hand. (unless you are Hercules) One option is to build a large coil like Jim Stewart's 'Bismarck' only instead of wearing it in a bulky harness swing it like a line trimmer using a sling and counter balance it with a battery. I have seen this method used to great success in central Victoria and WA by John-Hider Smith, one of the best and most talented prospectors who ever swung a coil.

  9. ATX is fully submersible and open coils made for underwater use. Axiom rainproof but not submersible, and coils float like a cork. The 11" x 7" can be held under only with significant down pressure, and the larger ones - well, forget it. Until water neutral accessory coils are available I do not consider the Axiom suitable for wading use.

  13. I'm a full time beach hunter and I've used Pitch and Square with the iron volume turned all the way down and a notch from 0-10. On a tourist beach, any iron to be found is totally junk. Not so on the treasure coast. There, I want to hear it all. In V1.0 I'll use High Square which does change the tone somewhat...I like it. I have noticed other changes from V.71 too not only in terms of sound but in VDI also. It will just take some time to learn and get accustom to the new V1.0...totally worth the time and effort....a great update for sure.

  16. You should get an email from XP that looks like this: You have to click on "VALIDATE ACCOUNT" as seen above. If you never did this, then you don't have an account yet. You can't login and download the update without getting this email and Validating it. Hope that helps...

  18. Update. The WS6 drained down overnight and shut off by morning. I recharged it during the day and when I got home I turned on my remote first, selected the wireless phone option and got the message to hold down the (-) on the WS6. I held it down for a good 8-10 seconds until it indicated it was successfully paired, and it then operated correctly as slave. It turns off and on with the remote now and functions as it should. I'm not sure exactly what I did to cause it to lock up but it appears to be resolved.

  19. June 10 2002 Part One We were up and at it around 8:00 AM. Jacob was busy with the gold cleanup chores and the rest of us shoveled gravel by hand into the tom. It was a giant step backwards and the weather was hot as all get up. Jim stockpiled the days pay gravel with the excavator first. This only took a short time because we could only process just so much by hand. After we’d shoveled for an hour we were all soaked in sweat and the temperature was already over 80 degrees. By lunch time it was over 90 and we took a break. I was too hot and tired to eat much of anything and had to fight the urge to have a cold beer. I told myself no, that’s for tonight after the mining is done. Around 3:00 PM the temperature was sitting at 95 in the shade. Then the water flow stopped. I hollered over to Vern who was the pump tender. I was angry and figured he had forgotten to keep the gas tank filled but he said no, he had been up there tending it not too long ago. The three of us hiked up the mountain to have a look. The lay flat line had been slashed and the pump's fuel cap was off. It wasn’t running. The oil cap was off as well. Upon inspection we realized someone had dumped some kind of grit into the oil reservoir and also something into the gas tank. The pump had seized up. Also, our hose had been slashed in about ten places in a 200 foot length from the pump and would need replaced. I was hot and tired and took it out on Vern saying he was responsible for guarding against this kind of sabotage but instead was down at the digsite working. I took off my hat and threw it on the ground and stormed back down the mountain in anger leaving Jim and Vern to look at the mess. TO BE CONTINUED ................

  20. First outing with 1.0 yesterday. Nothing great but it was a city park and you can see that the coins have been there for a spell, most 7 to 8 inches with lots of trash. But what got me is the saw medallion! It is the size of a quarter and was a solid signal, pinpointed in bottom of hole and measured at 17 inches!!!! This was with a 9 inch coil. Using the general in full tones.

  21. When you say jumpy, that can be a good thing, it could mean the machine is not locking on targets too aggressively. Once your onto a target try to isolate it and tighten up your passes over it. Also hit it in different angles. I do quite a bit of hunting with a Gold Racer that doesn't lock onto targets and this can be helpful when sniffing out targets that are mixed. I often find coin spills, pocket knives, even found an old silver plated whip handle that had an iron screw through it. Nice token.

  22. My X-Pro is working well, pulled this collector coin out of my yard where the nox has detected quite a few times, I was really surprised. I think any experienced user will have no trouble finding good targets. It's target ID is very similar to the M-Core (jumpy) and it also seems to shift up/down the scale a bit when changing frequencies. I have dug several rivet heads, they look like tiny aluminum washers, its sensitive. I think it would keep up with most detectors costing twice as much. A comparison between the Vanquish and X-pro would be interesting.

  24. The main thing with a drag coil is that it is very useful for covering a large open area that is a "virgin patch" area to see if there is gold in it. Then to find the majority of the gold you have to grid/chain the area with a normal/small coil and then a large hand held coil in the deeper ground as the depth of the smaller coil targets get deeper. Just think how many of your nuggets would of been detected with a 25+ inch coil if you did not know they were there, however very deep larger nuggets would be missed with a small coil. I would of been lucky if I used a very large coil more than 1% of the time. So the best spots to use a drag coil is in large clear non flogged/known locations, I hope this lets you know what you are getting into.

  26. Introducing the new QWIPPLE™, triple adjustment Shock cord support system. There has never been anything like this. (Availability in 40 days) • Top of the line custom made 50% stretch (most shock cord is 100% stretch) UV Dacron Polyester Shock cord. Durable and tough. Control without all the bounce. This shock cord is specially made to my exacting specifications. This is necessary to withstand the rigors of metal detecting. I had to order 6200 meters to get this shock cord made to meet my requirements because it's not available commercially. • Exclusive ambidextrous heavy duty shoulder clip that allows 1 handed easy height adjustment "on the go." Never miss a swing, no stopping to re-adjust. Attach either looped end to the rod and you can still adjust the height, because both sides of the clip have an adjustment groove. • Amazing, rod bungee connection point fits any detector. You can also adjust the height of the detector here, or, simply use the loop end of the shock cord to attach. If you do like to adjust at the rod adjustment connector, no problem. When you are ready to lay your detector down in the dirt, don't take the clip off at the shoulder, this just allows your shock cord to lay in the dirt with your detector. Simply pop the shock cord out of the side of the rod adjustment device and leave your shock cord hanging on your shoulder high and dry and clean. • Every QWIPPLE™ triple adjustment shock cord support system comes with a RING STRAP included. You can sew the RING STRAP onto your favorite support harness, backpack or hydration pack and your all set. Doc

  29. It's been a while, I also need to do a wrap up of relic season, but I went to Myrtle Beach for a week. I was hoping to score some high end stuff, but I was in the Southern campground district instead of the hotel strip. Spring break had just ended two days before we got there. The campground is enormous, more than 800 campsites and about 2,000 lease/rental houses. It also has about a mile of beach, and there are two more large campgrounds heading north as well as a couple large condo buildings. Each morning and most afternoons I got to hunt the beach at low tide, the tide is about 5 feet so it goes way out. There were 4 sections, High dry, trough as seen above, mid dry, and wet. The top 3 were all random finds, in the wet you could zigzag for a short time to the surf, and soon you would find a line of good finds. The best stuff was probably in the surf trough but I didn't go in the water, especially after seeing a kid running down the beach with a 3 foot shark in his hands to show his parents. 😀 Tried to get a good shot but all I got was this: I know, what shark? 🤔 You can see the hotel district in the background, never made it there, it was about 4 miles up the beach. Overall it was kinda disappointing, but still fun and I lost over 5 pounds over the week. I met other detectorists who were complaining instead of lying about the dearth of finds, I kinda had to laugh. I was using the Deus 2 with the 13" coil and a modified Beach Sensitive program done sort of like my Relic Reaper program. No disc, no notch, ears for discrimination. I knew from reading others' posts that there would be all kinds of crazy IDs and sometimes no ID, but I dug everything that sounded good. Thing was everything was deep for the most part. I got so I'd scoop at least 5 times not only to beat fill-in, but to get to the find which was usually in the 4th or 5th scoop, anywhere from 8-12" deep. Because using square full tones and turning on a find identifies almost all iron, I had no problem skipping it but dug some randomly either because it was close to the surface and dangerous, or just to check. I did find that low tones with IDs of 5 to 15 were usually bling jewelry. I also blessed the 'no beach tents' signs which kept stakes to a minimum. It was the only thing you couldn't legally do on the beach 🤣 Here's my Day 1 trash getting used to the place: Glad I got rid of that surface trap iron! This is my last days' trash showing that I got better but still watched for surface iron: Ok. Now for the finds: Crap finds Bling finds A small handful of junk jewelry including a tungsten ring, a stainless spinner, 3 earrings, a tiny ankle bracelet chain, and some earring parts. The best one is below, .925 with a big CZ. Big finds: A huge monster truck Hummer that was 2 feet down, a small toy car, sunglasses. An iPhone 13 and case that was about 6" under the surf and vertical, it would have been 6 feet under water at high tide so it is dead. A huge bling buckle found close to the surf about a foot down, I think it took 8 scoops to get it. It has rhinestones or CZs and is some kind of plated zinc. https://www.buckle.com/blazin-roxx-glitz-belt-buckle/prd-5491537906 Coins: 99 coins, oldest was probably 70s. The place was huge and so nice that we booked it again next year before leaving, my wife loves the local shopping and restaurants. Shame I couldn't get her a gold or silver ring. A few more gratuitous photos of the place: Cool spider crab

  30. That’s certainly a strange one. Hopefully, it’s not a bug like we had early on as described here where with disc set at -6.4, you would get no iron tone (which would be sort of the opposite of what you were describing, Lodge). Frankly, if the detector is falsing on iron with a TID well above the disc limit (iron tone break) shifting disc up or down a few points should not theoretically make falsing noticeably better or worse. The main factors should be, as you noted, Silencer and Max F. BTW note that the max silencer setting is now 7, so maybe increasing it further is what is needed for 40 kHz Max so you can re-invoke disc and at least don’t get non-ferrous tones on all targets. Will have to play with that one. The only real way to verify is to find a falsing nail and see if it really stops falsing at -6.4 disc. Yep that is really odd behavior but sometimes weird behaviors an anomalies show up at the extreme endpoints of parameter settings’ ranges.

  31. Health advisory out to stay indoors due to heavy smoke from many fires around the area. I went out and purchased a couple of N95 masks so I could breath safely. I shifted gears a bit today. I pre-screened my gold containing gravel down to 10 mesh, which took me about 1 1/2 hours for 3 x 5 gallon buckets. I then set up my California Mini highbanker, ran it with less angle and less flow due to the 10 mesh feed. It was really relaxing for the next 1 1/2 hours to feed the highbanker. I just sat on a bucket and fed the highbanker. It also took about 30 minutes to feed each bucket. I did 3 clean-ups and was really surprised at how much gold I got. Life is good!

  33. Nothing all that spectacular here just some more of the stuff that often turns up at these early western sites that unlike the gold camps were inhabited by folks that did not have a whole lot of money. Mostly I just wanted to show another piece of millitaria that was found that I am not completely sure about.I'm thinking that it was either a very large two piece general service type coat button missing its back portion or perhaps part of a stamped two piece buckle although there is no signs of it being attached to a frame. I have had to resort to using primairily the deus 1 with the elliptical coil due to the unbelievable density of the weeds and native grasses which are the direct result of the very wet winter.Relic site detecting in my area is going to be real tough until the fall die off. A few eyeballed items Some of the more interesting trash.

  38. ...Last night I returned to the same beach, I knew that I had left gold; I could 'almost' smell it. And I wasn't wrong... A DANA has passed through the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula and has brought waves of more than 2 meters. You have to go out there and play, now! The night started with a silver bracelet signed by PANDORA, we're doing well... A lot of old currency, in Spain pesetas were used before the arrival of the euro. There were quite a few! The wind was beginning to take its toll on me, it was the second day in a row and my strength was beginning to falter. Another silver ring!... I found a patch where targets kept coming out, another hard coin, a lead bear and BANG!!!! Gold wedding band. Almost 10 grams in a couple of nights, thank goodness it was a 'starter' detector. I have already passed the limit of 100 hours (this weekend I try it with the other coils for real) and I can only say the same as a famous Spanish bullfighter: Im-presionante!!! I am exhausted and with a smile that does not fit on my face...😁

I was using the d 1 with the skinny HF coil on that trip anticipating a lot of weeds.I'm going back soon and will be moving a ton of deadfall and removing an old barbed wire fence that was lying flat on the ground when I was there forty years ago and expect some good targets to come available.I found the peace dollar that I used for scale complete with the big scratch that i Put in it in 1974 at the old catholic church in the town that I grew up in.Thanks!

  42. Jim Stewart had success with the 'Bismark' but sometimes spent a lot of time digging deep rubbish. James Beatty along with John Hider-Smith and Jim dug a piece over 30 ozs using one of those coils. They broke a pick and took until midnight to dig it out. Jim also built a big DD coil, but it had to be swung slowly, making it useless for sledding as the target response was too slow. My sledding experience was nothing to brag about as the best that I achieved was a 6 oz bit. What it did do was to eliminate large areas that could have been productive (but weren't). At least I don't have to lay awake at night thinking about what I could of missed. Mono coils are the go for sledding and having tried different configurations I found that round coils worked best for both coverage and depth. With a grid overlap of 50% very little ground was left undetected.

  43. I've been on a tear with the Manticore lately. 10 silver coins the last three weekends. This afternoon hunting at a school yard I got 6 silvers and a silver ring earlier this year it was tough to say the least. I thought I was going to get skunked. Mild sandy soil with a lot of clad deep enough to be silver. Also a lot of crazy deep Wheat Cents ringing up 76-78. Some times I pass them if I'm tired of digging, but today I was digging anything silver deep. Finally I got a pretty solid very deep beep ringing 88-94 depending on the angle I swung over it. When I removed the plug I my pin-pointer beeped in the bottom of the hole. I dug with my fingers, and I saw the Merc in the bottom of the hole. I thought dang that was ringing high. Stuck the pin-pointer back in and heard another target in the bottom side and flipped out a Walker half. It all made sense then. My second Walker from this school yard.

I´m waiting for the Compadre too, to modified, i want to be able to switch coils. I think having two detector´s (Outlaw and Compadre) is enough, plus 4 coils, 7" concentric, 5" concentric, Detech 13" Ultimate DD COIL and 8" DD COIL. I was insterested to try out the Cíbola too. But one step at a time.

  47. Another observation. The Manticore handles EMI the best of any detector I've owned. I was able to run it between 30 and 34 sensitivity today and recovered 2 rings! I was actually hoping for some silver coinage. But I'll take it. Fourth hunt with the Manticore and I have scorched past last years recovery rate, indubitably.
