I couldn’t wait to get out after seeing Calmark & Gerry’s Flood Pictures of Rye Patch dry washes! Though I’d give it a few days to dry out and for a Road Crew to fix the main dirt roads. Road Crew, did a great job with a new Culvert installed on the main drainage of Poker Brown wash and regraded it to my left turn to the Majuba Placer. I was impressed with the erosion of this storm, had to be one for the record book. Being a student of Hydrology during my dredging years, I learned each flood was different from each other in their course of moving material down a drainage. I had my eyes set on two dry washes that produced well for me in the past, both with shallow bedrock. Parked and loaded up my RZR, I headed off to the first location. Donning my gear, I was hoping my Headphones took a charge. My charging light wouldn’t show it was charging, I was hoping the light was just burnt out. Anyways, it was working just fine as I was swinging my coil on the short hike to this small section of dry wash. I arrived, and looked down at my location…it was nearly unrecognizable and was covered with yards of fresh packed dirt. I looked up stream, to see what caused this mess. The wash had such a flow 25 yards above my spot it cut a new channel and layed all the overburdened to the slowdown bend of my location. I still swung it and the new cut to no avail, I’ll wait for the next flood to see if it moves the overburdened…I hate shoveling 😂. Next spot, was perfect! The flow exposed my favorite 10 ft section of Shale. I swung into this area 20 ft above the exposed section to give my 6000 a chance to ground balance. I was eyeballing a spot during my slow sweeps of my 10x5 Coiltek and as soon as I went over the bedrock I heard the sweet sound of my plan come alive. Keeping my eye on the spot, I set my detector down ahead of me it made a familiar tone and I gently raised it up and back down, yes another target. We’ll long story short, I pulled these seven out of the 10 ft section. When I first found this spot many Moons ago it was a good 8” down to the bedrock and produced several 2+ dwt nuggets. Thru the many new models of Minelab detectors it produced other nuggets and I’m sure the 6000 just clean this exposed section out for good. Except now, I’m sure the Gold goes into the 3ft bank of overburdened of the wash on top of this bedrock, I hate shovels! I’ll bank this spot just in case they redesign a shovel into a backhoe! It was late in the day and I headed back to camp before dark. It was a windy night and the morning it died down to a tolerable wind speed for detecting. At my location and 10 minutes in, my detector made a noise I hadn’t heard before! I looked down at my battery charge and it was only down a third. Well it was working fine and continued my hunt a few minutes later the same noise? A few minutes later and my headphones turned off 🙁. I tried, for 30 minutes with just the unit’s speaker and as much as I like the speaker it wasn’t good enough with my worn out Military Hearing fighting against the breeze of the High Plane Desert. Beautiful weather and I hated to leave, got home and found the On-line repair ticket of Minelab USA. Until the next Hunt! LuckyLundy7 points

After a long wait, I finally received the NF 12x7 Xceed coil for my GPX6 and used it for the first time in an area that has small and shallow gold. I ended up with 10 nuggets for a total weight of 1.2 grams. The smallest nugget weighed 0.023 gram and was somewhere between 1 to 2 inches deep. This is the smallest nugget I have ever found metal detecting. I dont know if the stock 11 inch coil would have heard this tiny nugget but I will say the Xceed coil is plenty sensitive enough for me and there is no need or desire for me to find anything smaller.5 points

Plenty of space if they make the elliptical a closed design, which I'm sure most would prefer anyway.5 points

I’ve had it in bits now no obvious signs of problems unplugging everything gave it a dust over and a little contact cleaner. Anyway put it all back together and it worked for about a minute then the screen went dead again. I’m ordering a new one now thanks for the advice. Will keep you posted ☮️4 points

I took mine in the back yard day before yesterday, on a very deep quarter it was banging it on 20 sensitivity AT-HC. I compared with my 800 also on 20 sensitivity Park1 and the Manticore seemed to hit the clad quarter somewhat better. I could get the coil a little bit higher off the ground with the Manticore. So I guess my update went fine.4 points

Equinox 700 or the Legend will serve you well. One nice feature exclusive to the Legend is being able to have the audio in the external speaker AND Headphones at the same time. I hunt that way with one of my daughters who doesn't like to wear the HPs so I do. We can still talk while I follow her around as she detects to teach her.4 points

TnSharpshooter posted a short video on Youtube just showing the coils, and mentioning he had used the M8 more than the M15. He said more to come on both. The M8 in particular.3 points

My buddy and I hit a river today. Sampling gravel indicated maybe 5 specs. The vegetation roots faired much better, so I spent the day only washing roots. Such a simple process too. Just put a chunk of roots with sand and gravel in your hopper, and let the water break it up. I got some great fossils, a ring, and other goodies using my metal detector. I faired OK with the gold too, considering it was not the North Saskatchewan River. "ROOTS ROCK."🍀🍀🍀🍀 (lots of pics)3 points

Is it impossible for people to think the SDC timings have a hole? Denial is a river in Egypt. No detector is perfect. The Axiom for sure, but that goes for the SDC also. But I’ll repeat for the “nothing can ever do anything better than anything made by Minelab” crowd - the 2300 is a great detector and anyone that has one and is happy with it has absolutely no need to trade it for the Axiom.3 points

The small coil is a no brainer for me...a must have. I was digging corroded zinc pennies 15 inches deep with ease on my last beach hunt with the M-Core using the deep audio...I may sell my TDI pro if it weren't for its clean sweep coil that I like to use. I dont know that I would need the large M15 unless I beach hunted more often...yea they gotcha by the you know whats.. strick3 points

Hi AB, welcome to the forum and thanks for sticking with us, giving more info. 🙂 The Deus 2 is an incredible and versatile machine, apparently about to become moreso. It is extremely light, there are a lot of aftermarket accessories for it now, and with respect to ID's it is the tightest. I own an equinox 600, it was my second detector and I was very successful with it. Bought the Deus not too long after it came out, used them both for a while, and now almost exclusively use the Deus 2. By the time you get everything expect to be in the $2,000+ range. I have just about every accessory, all the coils, and the nice 280 backpack to stuff it all in. I recommend the Deus 2 especially to those who are retired due to its weight, and to water hunters because of it's incredible depth rating and proven history of not flooding. Like you I travel during the summer and beach hunt on the east coast, I'm in Virginia on the Potomac. The one big difference is that I relic hunt in the fall and winter, lots of history here, and lots of old farms - some dating to the 1640s. Here the Deus 2 is probably the best detector to have, if you're going to walk 5-7 miles in huge farms you don't want muscle cramps and tennis elbow that night. 😀 After using it for two years now, I prefer it to any Minelab machine because it can be set easily to reduce "boop fatigue", a common issue with nearly any Minelab detector. It is also extremely resistant to EMI, thus far only the Manticore (I don't have one) seems to come close in this detector genre. When you buy the full package you literally get two detectors in the box. The WS6 headphones can also be used as a detector. Nice to have a backup handy, but it will cost you more in accessories to put one together. I've found gold rings with both my 600 and the Deus, but I definitely prefer the Deus because I am older. Do consider the Coiltek 10x5 for your son on the Equinox if you haven't already. You might want it yourself if you get a 700. Best of luck, and we look forward to any questions you have regarding your purchase, this forum "brought me up" so to speak. 😀3 points

A funny thing happened at the beach today, I was to meet up with Chase at a local beach, one I now dub the "Beach of Low Expectations". I was detecting the beach cut in front of a motel, and saw a flip-flop, a half empty Corona bottle, and an iPhone. Sure enough the phone worked, and had ID and credit cards in a pocket on the case. I asked a woman nearby if it was hers, and she said no, but she thought it might belong to a woman who was very drunk and noisy on the beach the night before. I took the phone to the motel office and asked if the woman was staying there, and the manager said yes, the people were still checked in. She said I could bring it up to her room, and mentioned they were trouble. I decided to take it myself being the fearless individual I am 😏 Went to the room and knocked, once, twice, finally 5 times when I heard "GODDAMN IT" and someone coming to the door. It was the woman, nearly naked, not sure if she was wearing much at all. I tried not to look at anything but her face, first time someone looked better in their license photo than in person. 😀 I said "You might want this back", and that was all I could get out, she said "Thank you", took it, and closed the door. Yikes. 🤣 I went back out to the beach, Chase had got there, and I dug very little. 😵 .68, a copper arthritis ring (ID'd by my wife), and a bling earring. 🤷♂️ That was my Karma for returning someone's life. 🙄 We still had a fun day, the weather was great, and there were lots of nice people out there today. I think we did better than the other detectorists from what they said.3 points

Hello Adam, And welcome to the forum! Didn't find you in the Meet and Greet yet, so if you could tell us a bit more information! I'm primarily a beach hunter on Treasure Coast Florida, so I'm fairly familiar with what your wants are! But I have never used a Legend, or hunted any closer to you than Hilton Head! You sound like you've been in the game awhile with your lineup, so I will consider you fairly well versed! Suffice it to say, that depth on a beach, can be a tricky subject with many variables! Hands down, a PI machine is gonna go deeper than a VLF single or multi, but has little to no discrimination; first consideration! Budget is next, and always a major consideration for most of us, so that will somewhat dictate where you end up detectorwise; new or used! I've used several of each on the beach, but prefer older PI's like White's and Garrett's! I hate "retail sticker shock", so I primarily stick to used detectors!! My ML 800 is also in the lineup, for "no dig everything" days on trashy beaches! And a couple other "dry sand only" detectors, that are standbys (Tesoro Fan😁)! Based on day to day, or even hour to hour sand erosion/deposition on "our" beaches, which includes a variety of sand types, depth is sort of a moot point, as the erosion, or lack of it, really is dictating the depth of finds, other than the most recent ones! More so, the composition of "your" beaches, and their erosion/deposition, shell layer, etc.. will dictate the depth that is ideal for what you are hunting!! Which than goes hand in hand with what your after!?! Meaning anything?, recent drops? old items? Water hunting, Etc.. This is sounding sorta teachie 😵, and long winded, but not my intent! Mostly I'm just trying to get you to narrow down, for the more experienced on here, that may chime in, to get you the most bang for your buck for your most sought after targets! 🍀👍👍3 points

That equals my smallest find with the GPZ with the smaller ones coming from VLF's. I'm yet to find under 0.03 with the 6000 but my time will come. 10 nuggets is great going.3 points

I have the legend and eq900. I think the legend is well built and picks mid conductors out pretty good in clean areas. However I think the eq900 handles bad ground and picks stuff out of iron better and deeper. I like the simplicity the eq900 controls better. The legend is a little more complicated when It comes to setting it up. I like the overall feel of the eq900 better than the legend. I like the expanded tid scale of the equinox better. This is probably not what you were looking for but this is my experience. Good luck.3 points

There’s an innovative pinpointer maker, called SphinxMD out of Russia and they have launched the mother of all pinpointers in the Sphinx 03. The problem for us in the USA, and the West, is our sanctions by design make doing business cost prohibitive. If you’re a fellow techie I suspect you’ll still want to know exactly what it is you’re missing and where the industry will be headed. I happen to have one on hand to review. What’s in the Box: A Sphinx 03 pinpointer. A magnetic holster. A lanyard. A tip cover. A type-c charging cord. Manuals. Optional: A drop leg magnetic holster with pouch and extra tip cover. Ergonomics and handling: This pinpointer fits nicely in the hand. Button placement is dead on. There’s nothing awkward about it. The button is robust and springy, yet easy to activate. The hard shell plastic makes it easy to clean and keep looking nice. It comes with a tip cover with scraper blade. Features: SphinxMD was the first to implement a magnetic on/off holster in the Sphinx 02. This feature has been carried over to the Sphinx 03, works as it should and without delay. It is at the ready as soon as it’s withdrawn from the holster. This saves valuable time (and wear) otherwise spent on button operation. Sphinx 03 has iron discrimination, which when compared to the Minelab ProFind, works exceptionally well. With the ProFind I had to be right on top of iron for the iron tone to activate. By then I’m already distracted. That’s not the case here. The iron tone and LED alert have sufficient depth/range, saving valuable time. The iron tone is trustworthy in that I have not experienced any falsing on non-ferrous metals. If it says it’s iron, it’s iron. The Sphinx continues to innovate with the first ever app for a Pinpointer. That’s right, all functions can be accessed and changed to suit your preferences via the SphinxMD app. This is a first for pinpointers in the industry to my knowledge. It was quick and easy to set up and with a long press of the button you’re synced in the app within seconds. Everything can be customized, activated or deactivated from sensitivity and sound on down. Don’t want to use discrimination? You can turn off the alert. Don’t want to use the magnetic feature? It too can be turned off. This is not a wonky novelty app. It works well. This system is actually much easier and quicker to implement than a series of cumbersome button sequencing nobody ever remembers. If you’re a tinkerer like me you’ll enjoy the interaction and amount of customization this setup allows. If you want to set it and forget it, you can do that too as the changes are wirelessly implemented instantly and remembered. The Sphinx 03 is also IP68 to a depth of 6 meters (20 feet). I have had a chance to use it under water and it’s integrity held up. It has a built in rechargeable lithium battery. I will update when I’ve carried it through a full cycle. The cap is well threaded and easy to remove, yet fits snugly; a necessary combination for a waterproof and rechargeable pinpointer. Other notable features include high sensitivity with high response speed, battery life indication, lost mode, fast detuning with memory function, and automatic Interference protection system which has worked well for me even at the highest level of sensitivity. I have not experienced instability or erratic operation. Depth/Range: Very comparable to the ProPointer AT in this regard. This is not bad at all for a pinpointer boasting a discrimination feature. Discrimination costs a little depth, and so to still be as deep as other leading pinpointers is a plus. Where this pinpointer begins to walk away from others is in its sensitivity to sub-gram and micro jewelry invisible to pinpointers like my Bullsye TRX. The Sphinx 03 also has 360 degree field of detection, rather than tip only detection. Aesthetics: While this doesn’t matter to everyone, it does to me for a couple of reasons. One is pride in ownership of a well crafted tool. Another is it demonstrates pride in craftsmanship by the manufacturer. The Sphinx 03 is a sporty looking piece of tech, and the tip cap adds to this appeal. An optional accessory for this unit is a nice drop leg holster, also with magnetic on/off. I love drop leg holsters and unlike my SHRXY drop leg holster, the material is smooth and easy to keep clean. It also has a nice snug fit.2 points

If you don't have another coil, unscrew the cable from the detector and re-install. Don't over tighten. When it's doing good and quiet, take and lightly tap the coil to see if you can get it to act up. Usually power lines will interfere if at a distance. What about your cell phone? If you have location on, it continues to broadcast your location to the tower.2 points

I thought the stabilizer settings also sounded "wonky" in the particular audio theme I like. I'm not sure if that's part of the sound or a bug. I lean towards it being part of the sound because when I increase stabilizer, it gets worse. I however, haven't noticed a depth loss. I was actually thinking the opposite. I dug a clad quarter last week that was around 10 inches deep that gave great ID. Had me fooled for sure...I saw a green patina on a large disc and just knew I had something special. Robbed!2 points

the relationship between detector, ground and targets is always a tradeoff. when you change how the machine reponds to iron, tihis affects how it responds to alloys. The relationship between iron, ground and targets is an alloy in effect. just as when the F2 was added to the NOX there is a downside in how the machine reaches down into mineralized ground. overalll, the update looks good and if you chose to work with the whole detector (instead of looking for quick push button fixes) a way can be found to balance out these effects. cjc2 points

Well at least you can say that XP finishes what they start... I would have bought the small elliptical had that been the surprise...I'm wondering what the hold up is on that? they already have the molds from the Deus 1 (I still have that machine and coil) I know that the battery is in the shaft on that coil...is there just not enough room inside the coil to make it happen with the Deus ? It seems that the 9 inch round on the deus 2 is the same size as it was on the Deus 1 ......sorry for the ramble... strick2 points

Shocking cost I feel. They are trying to cream everyone with a Manticore. Makes the Nox 800 and 900 a great buy. Bearing in mind that I do not believe in the grand scheme of things you are really getting that much of an overall performance upgrade Apart from the bells and whistles and in the majority of cases how much we miss in the wild is anyones guess. I think find rates with new machines increase as everyone digs all signals just to investigate what lays beneath. The Manticore on the beach yes noticeable improvement and afew good finds will pay for your coil.2 points

Here it is summer already and the BLM has removed their mining claims maps - again. They say they think they will be back online on the 26th. 🐕🐴 For all those hoping to do some research before a weekend of prospecting Land Matters updated their Mining Claim Maps this week. These are the most up to date claims maps available anywhere. Heck they may be the only current free mining claim maps available anywhere. The Land Matters maps have more information than the BLM maps and they are the only maps that have the claim owner names. Anyone who has researched a potential prospecting area understands how important it is to be able to look up the claims paperwork and you can't do that without a name. So if you have been wondering how to check out that new area while the BLM is down again just wander on over to Land Matters and take a look around. We are always up and running and have been every day since 2014.2 points

Try zooming in a little GotAU. The maps show more detail the closer you zoom in, sections get labels and closer still and the quarter quarters will show and the quarter quarter sections will get labels as you zoom in a little more. this helps prevent confusing clutter as you zoom out. You can always get the full information for any active feature, whether it's showing or not, by using the "i" query button and clicking on your area of interest.2 points

My 2cW.... yes that was painful to watch. Made me wish I was there and get the target within a few seconds. Ive seen vids where other Axiom owners turn the coil USD to get a better response (Steve) but I see that as a minor detraction....annoying but tolerable. Ive done numerous tests with the SDC on tiny targets heard with other detectors and the ground balance needs about 5-10 seconds of swinging to get an accurate lock with the tracking system. A forced GB would have helped in that instance. The 10x5 mono is equally as sensitive as the 8" stock coil but is far more effective in handling ground and allows better depth on tiny targets....the size is smaller and the 'footprint' is smaller, meaning less ground noise for the processor to pluck targets out of the receive signal. Everyone I know who changed to a 10x5 on the 2300 significantly increased their small gold take....its like a supercharger. The SP-01 amp adds a noticeable % of performance as well.....Nenad did a wonderful job on both the audio patch lead and the Sp amp for the 2300. I am about to add another 2300 as a backup unit and for when the Brother visits to go detecting with me. I would never consider using/owning a 2300 without the 10x5 coil, headphone/audio patch lead and the SP-01. Its like driving a car and only getting as far as 3rd gear....2 points

I went to a school here in Corvallis for a short hunt yesterday. I was just going to detect the playground at first, but I didn't find anything, not even a zinc penny. There is a small grass strip that goes between the school and the street. I was going to call it quits, but then I decided that I might as well detect the grass strip before I left. I was using a modified Fast program that I call my "Pitch" program. I got a signal with a 50-51 TID. I almost didn't dig it because I was also getting an iron tone with it. I was surprised when out popped this 12K gold ring. One of the leaves is Black Hills gold and the other leaf is yellow gold. After I retrieved the ring I passed the coil back over the hole, and there was something iron there also.2 points

I've been keeping an eye on the Lira for a while now, the Turkish currency and it's just been on a massive fall against most currencies, in fact it's fallen 65% in the past 2 years against the USD, 20% in the past month alone. The Turkish economy is obviously a basket case causing this with insane inflation with the annual inflation rate at 40%, makes us feel kinda silly complaining about our mid single figure inflation rates. And if you thought your interest rates were bad in Turkey they've just doubled from 8.5% to 15% in the past couple of days and they're needing to go up a lot more yet with forecasts of 25% by the end of the year. This it the past 2 years of the Lira, look at it tracking right down vs the USD. And the last month alone, look at the dive at the end. The annual inflation rate reached 85 per cent late last year and the central bank burned through most of its reserves trying to prop up the Lira, down 90 per cent against the USD over the past 10 years. So what does this mean for Nokta's pricing? All those US buyers paying their 500 or 600 USD or whatever the Legend currently costs is a whole lot of Liras, much more than it was even a month ago, so does this mean Nokta can further reduce prices blowing the competition out of the water? Possibly. We can only wait and see.1 point

Just to save the trouble for American readers.... if these prices are accurate that's about $417 for the M15 and $341 for the M8. I'd love to think they will come with a lower shaft for that price but wishful thinking I'm sure! Minelab knows they gotcha though... you've already invested in the machine and if you want the optional coils you have no other options in the short term1 point

Nice thing🤔 about "older" tech, is buyers remorse is way less, and you have another backup/loaner! Or a horder like me!🙄😂 On a bit of a more serious note, you obviously know, at this point in the hobby, that if you get your coil over it; no matter what you swing, you will most likely find what your looking to find; within the limits of the technology! Especially at the beach!⛱ Now, when weight and balance come into play, and is an absolute requirement for you, the newer machines definitely "win" the majority of the time, no matter what brand, or pricepoint you favor! But in the end, Research, and Not falling for all the Manufacturer Hype, will get you in the ballpark for your ultimate decision!! Obviously, as that's why your here, and good on you for finding a great forum to do just that!! Keep us posted how it goes!!🍀💍👍👍1 point

I see no reason existing Deus 1 coils couldn’t be made to work with the Deus 2 remote. If the Hoard Hunter, originally intended for the Deus 1 remote, will now work for only the Deus 2 remote, this suggests interchangeability that is inexplicably being held back. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to operate the old HF coils on the Deus 2?1 point

Great insight. For me, one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a detector is the fun factor. The Apex has it in spades.1 point

That is why I carry the wired cable with me at all times when I am prospecting as a backup to wireless. Of course I am assuming that the detector will provide power, to the wireless headphones, through the cable and it will work even if the headphones are not powered up, will have to test this. I tested it and it works with the cable and without powering up the headphones so it looks like the headphones are just passive when used with the oem cable.1 point

I live pretty close to @abenson (I've run into him detecting a couple of times). In a few hours I'll give my Manticore with the update a compare to my Nox 800 in my test garden which is likely very similar dirt to his. - Dave1 point

Thanks, Andrew, for doing the legwork that (hopefully) helps all of us out. Given the number of people who have never bought a Manticore but still think they have free reign to bitch about it as if they knew what the hell they were talking about, I (as an owner) hesitate to get too riled up, yet. However, this first issue (irreversible update) gets a F grade in Computer Science 101. Who is in charge over there, Bozo the Clown?? If in fact they actually (intentionally or unintentionally) reduced the depth for mineralized ground with this update, I'm at a loss to figure out how a company whose headquarters is on a continent with some of the worst mineralization on the planet (I realize Oceania isn't uniformly highly mineralized) and who design and build detectors for finding native gold -- often located in the worst ground -- doesn't have a test patch (or more than one) with heavy iron oxidation with which to test changes to ensure they work under varying extreme conditions. Most of us don't live on a pristine white SiO2 beach. I hope there's a simpler explanation that leads me to apologize for this rant. Short of that I hope ML figures this out and fixes it. In the least they need to allow people to revert to the earlier software version. (For once my procrastination seems to have paid off...).1 point

Guys, the MXT is no more analog than the MX-Sport. They are the same basic design: analog demodulators, everything else is digital. The MXT used an 8-bit PIC micro and assembly language. The MX5 moved it to a 32-bit micro and "C" language, and cleaned up the analog portion a bit. Otherwise, same design. The MX-Sport is the same design as the MX5, with feature changes. The T2 is also the same design as the MXT, with feature changes. None of them are any more analog, or more digital, than the others. Tidbit: When the MX5 was released, there were also MX7 and MX9 models ready to go, with progressively more features. White's did not want to release them, because they didn't want them to impact the sales of the MXT. No, I don't understand that logic, either. Years later, a different MX7 was released. I still have an MX9 prototype, the only one in existence.1 point

I do not have a legend. But I think both the Equinox and Manticore are great on small gold. The Deus2 not so much, if your hunting wet sand/water. If I was starting new with what I know. It would be the Manticore. It is much easier to run than the D2 and it is better on gold chains [and it is not even close] Way less iron wrap-around in general and the Manticore runs quieter with equal to better depth than the D2.1 point

Aussie boy's $20,000 find buried at popular beach The boy came armed to the beach with a 'metal detector and small shovel'. Thu, 23 March 2023 at 3:20 pm NZDT·2-min read A "very excited" young boy was able to dig up a man's prized $20,000 watch that he lost at a popular Sydney beach on Tuesday. Josh Shave, 10, went hunting for the valuable Cartier Santos watch at Balmoral Beach with his father Simon, when the stressed 79-year-old man couldn't find it in his shorts pocket after going for his usual morning swim. “Dad was in a real state and very upset,” the man's son, Justin, told the Mosman Collective. “He returned to the car after his swim, and when he went to put his watch on, it wasn’t there. “He parks in the same spot and swims in the same spot every day, but even after retracing his steps, it couldn’t be found. The 1975 watch bought in France holds great sentimental value for the man, being one of his "most treasured possessions".
