  1. Out on an old local pasture in the UK, that's off the beaten track and has been heavily detected by myself and others. I had the Manticore on All Terrain General - Low Conductors, sens 27, stabliser 3, the ferrous limits opened up a bit top and bottom. I hit a scratchy but repeatable 35, not a belter of a signal but enough to make me dig, so glad I did, as at the bottom of a pinpointer deep hole this beautiful gold ring appeared! There are no date or makers marks on the ring so I'm unsure of it's age, it has a nice weight to it. I've had a look through UK National Antiquities database but can't find anything that matches it. The British Museum in London is currently looking at pictures of it to ascertain what age it is to see if it should be taken under the Treasure Act. One specialist has indicated he thinks it's medieval and a couple of people have suggested it may have had Niello inlayed into it. Still a bit of a mystery, but if anyone could help with an ID i'd be very grateful. Kind regards Stuart

  2. Silver coins have been scarce this year. However, I hit one of my park sites in an area that I had only quickly skimmed over in the past with the nox. Yesterday I hit that same area with the D2 in sensitive ft, sense at 94, reactivity 2.5-3, silencer 1, no notch BC at 0, 40khz max freq, disc at 6.8. yesterday I was mainly digging high tones but also a few solid mid tones for nickels or rings. I got a nice 96-97 and about 2-3” deep under a bunch of pines where the soil was pretty dry, I got the ‘53D gw. Then about 10 minutes later I got a 91 mixed in with some iron grunts. Out pops a ‘64 rosie! That brings me to 7 fty. This site will be my future hot spot as there’s more area to cover and I still have a lot of lower conductors to dig.

  3. I’ve lived in my town for the past 60+ years. Four years ago I picked up my first metal detector and would detect every local park and over to the beach. Never did I go to the local community center that is walking distance from my home. The property houses several buildings that were built as a school back in the late 1900’s. Well, I went by last week and see that they are scraping the soil between buildings to update the landscaping. I decided to detect the areas that have been scraped and in it I found two 1946 Rosie’s and one 1945 liberty dime, along with nine wheats and 27.12 in clad. Also a few marbles (I thought I”d lost them 🤪) This place is gonna be my go to for a while.

  4. I don't describe any of the people in the journal as far as looks. At least not usually. I'd rather let the reader use his imagination as to what the characters look like. To me it's like when you have listened to a DJ on the radio for yrs not knowing what he or she look like. Your brain makes up a vision or interpretation from the voice you have listened to for so long. Then usually, when you actually see this person, you are like "NO - THAT"S NOT WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE." So I don't know what the readers thought about Jacob but there he is in all his glory. So what was he like? He was a pretty tough cookie. He didn't put up with BS & if you were going to be his friend you had better be ready to buck up when the time came for action. He loved playing cards and his occasional cup of whisky. If he was your friend you knew you had someone you could count on in any circumstance. He liked to swear & didn't care who heard it. Down to earth & hard working. He told me some of his lady friends thought he resembled the actor Clark Gable. RIP Jacob. We miss you. I know you'd be getting a big kick out of the journal.

  5. Some of you have wanted to see a picture of Jacob. Yes, he was real. This was taken in 1999 & he was 81. This was taken in his cabin & he was with a friend playing cards. Sorry I can't get the picture to post correctly.

  6. I took a trip out to Rye Patch last Wed. Packed the whole family, CEO and herd of Doodle Dogs, towing the 5th wheel toyhauler with RZR aboard. Weather was awesome on day 2, almost needed a hoody at sunup, but that changed quickly. Day 2 I did some quick recon with the 2 big Doodles riding shotgun. Clearly, Rye Patch had seen some significant rain in early June. The roads were rutted and the gullies showed a lot of erosion, with bedrock showing here and there. I detected some places that had produced gold in the past for no joy. The next morning my big Doodle dog was really feeling out of sorts from a recent vet procedure. We made an appointment for Fri morning, so that shut down my detecting. Fri, we hauled her to Fallon and got some medication, then opted to take the Boss and Doodle Dogs home to Fernley. I drove back out to Rye Patch Fri evening, leaving the Doodles and Boss at home. Turns out to be a good decision since the weather turned hot quickly. Sat morning I got out early and detected a long line of exposed bedrock. Since mine were the only boot tracks, I decided to cover a lot of ground looking for the sitting ducks from the recent erosion. Surprisingly, the freshly exposed bedrock was barren, but I managed to get the bigger nugget in a newly exposed cut in the gully side wall. It got hot by noon so I surrendered and sat out the heat in the trailer with generator going and air con on max. Afternoon cooled down some and I went back out to another gully with exposed bedrock. Again, nothing in the exposed bedrock, but I pulled 2 out of the freshly cut sidewall. Sun morning I was out early. No breeze and a promise early hot weather. I put in nearly 3 hrs of detecting exposed bedrock and fresh sidewalls with not much but trash. I did a complete loop, ending up back where I had found the nuggets yesterday. 10 ft from one of my dig holes I got a faint whisper of target tone. I should mention the atmospherics were jumpy and the 6k with 14x9 Coiltek was sparky, I lowered the Sens down to 5 and that seemed to help. The nugget was flat and way down in the bedrock. I'm glad I kept my Dave' Gold Australian pick which makes quick work of the soft bedrock. I was sweating buckets by the time I got the nugget out and decided to call it a trip. Rye Patch is a tough place to score nuggets these days. All the washes I was working have been detected 1000's of times. The freshly exposed bedrock was never all that deep so my only advantage was I was first to detect the newly exposed sidewalls. If you are planning a trip mind the weather, and as always it's a tire killer out there. I saw 2 trucks on the road fixing flats.

  7. I’m sure most of us imagining the small coil for the Deus 2 are also imagining the “small coil program” update to go along with it, for single frequency performance matching the ORX. I don’t care about multi on the small coil, which would probably require a different coil. Just let me use the existing coil.

  8. Rained me out of work close to the f.o.d. so I manned up and went swinging! Wooded area super thick but never explored by me. Super hot alabama humid and rain led to complete run through of h20 and my everything. Had a rain coat but upon putting it on realized sweat and rain do the same so wore the hood to protect my ws6 and tied arms around my chest! Lol 😆 haven't swung 1.1 much except 1 baby outing so kept filters high so nail bit didn't cause me to fight a tree or worse! Happy with results and bc really can help with flat rusted tin like stuff ( usually run it 2,3 but less then 5 those things sound amazing). Happy 4th fellas be safe

  9. Awesome finds, Mongo! The Nazi wound badge would be a very rare find at a POW camp site because it had a large pin on the back. Most of the prisoners' medals and badges were confiscated so they couldn't use them as weapons. Many of them were hidden by the prisoners and later traded to guards for things like cigarettes and food.

  13. There’s an old ww2 POW camp in the town I live in in Oklahoma. German prisoners were housed here on what is now the county fairgrounds. I’ve been going over this place for about three months now, found quite a few 1941-45 wheaties and an American coat button with the eagle. I found this last week and just got it cleaned up enough to see it. Can anyone tell me more about these things? Thanks for any information!

  14. I just joined the website today. I'm a long time prospector and I write for the ICMJ Magazine. I reside in the heart of the California Gold Country and have a hydraulic pit within 10 minutes of my house. I currently run a Garrett Goldmaster 24K and an Axiom. The more I learn about detecting the more I realize I know very little so I'm here to learn all I can! I'll attach a shot of my most recent little nugget. I found it last week exploring a pocket deposit in the American River Canyon.

  15. Thank you in advance to Steve for allowing be to update people on developments. The number of people waiting for a cover for the Axiom and Manticrore is pretty mind boggling. I know Steve doesn't like to use covers because he says he likes to keep the machine as light as possible. But the Manticore cover weighs 4 ounces and the AXIOM cover weighs 10 ounces. I'm sorry that designing prototyping and perfecting covers for new machines takes so long, but I won't have it made unless it's perfect. What I thought was going to be a nightmare to design, the AXIOM cover actually was not. It was similar in it's weird design to the GPX6000 so that went smoothly. The nightmare was the new Manticore cover. That large protrusion in the back with the flashlight was really hard to work around. If it was a big machine, working with weird angles is not such a challenge, but when you work with covers for smaller machines negotiating weird angles really cause problems for the design team. I've seen some covers for the Manticore being marketed already, they just put a big piece of elastic across the back. it blocks the coil cable plug in, the headphone jack and the flashlight. I suppose you can stretch the elastic out of the way to allow the cable and headphone jack to be plugged in, but what about the flashlight? Anyway here are pictures of new items these were the final approved prototypes, they have been in production now for about 2 weeks. Estimate is 3 weeks total for production to conclude and then probably another 3 to 4 weeks shipping customs clearance etc. The Gold Monster Cover we have in stock now. I am going to have to do a You Tube video on the QWIPPLE™ so people understand just how cool this new item is. I have a plethora of new items being manufactured right now. (Plethora, I don't get to use that word "A LOT") 1. The new Qwipple™ triple adjustment point shock cord bungee kit to be mounted on your favorite harness or hydration pack. 2. New Cover Set for the AXIOM, Head Cover Shade Cover, Body Cover and Arm Cuff Cover all done in the Digital Aussie Green Camo material 3. New Cover set for the Manticore 4. New Cover set for the Equinox 700 and 900 5. New Cover Sert for the Xterra Pro 6 New Cover Set for the GPX6000 in the New Digital Aussie Green Camo material 7. New Cover Set for the Gold Monster in the New Digital Aussie Green Camo material (IN STOCK NOW) 8. New Doc's Nugget Stalker soft real cowhide soft leather nugget pouch. Kangaroo Scrotums are getting hard to get in the larger size, and you can't sell anything made of Kangaroo into California. This new pouch is really nice. A larger size made of genuine soft leather. #1. Let me tell you about the QWIPPLE™. Take the weight off while detecting. With less strain you will be able to detect longer and concentrate on subtle targets better. • Top of the line custom made 50% stretch (most shock cord is 100% stretch) UV Protected Dacron Polyester Shock cord. Durable and tough. Control without all the bounce. This shock cord is specially made to my exacting specifications. This is necessary to withstand the rigors of metal detecting. I had to order 6200 meters to get this shock cord made to meet my requirements because it's not available commercially. • Exclusive ambidextrous heavy duty shoulder clip that allows 1 handed easy height adjustment "on the go." Never miss a swing, no stopping to re-adjust. Attach either looped end to the rod and you can still adjust the height, because both sides of the clip have an adjustment groove. • Amazing, rod bungee connection point fits any detector. You can also adjust the height of the detector here, or, simply use the loop end of the shock cord to attach. If you do like to adjust at the rod adjustment connector, no problem. When you are ready to lay your detector down in the dirt, don't take the clip off at the shoulder, this just allows your shock cord to lay in the dirt with your detector. Simply pop the shock cord out of the side of the rod adjustment device and leave your shock cord hanging on your shoulder high and dry and clean. • Every QWIPPLE™ triple adjustment shock cord support system comes with a RING STRAP included. You can sew the RING STRAP onto your favorite support harness, backpack or hydration pack and you're all set. Doc 1. QWIPPLE™ 2. Axiom Cover 3. Manticore Cover 4. Equinox 700 and 900 Cover 5. Xterra Pro Cover 6. GPX6000 Cover Set 7. Gold Monster Cover, (IN STOCK NOW) 8. New Leather Nugget Stalker® Gold Nugget Pouch

  16. All of those things are certainly possible. However a more realistic scenario would be an officers sword or sharps carbine or perhaps a navy colt at or below the four foot level the possibilities for iron relics are endless. And don't let the bones that you should happen to encounter make you queazy just pretend that you are an Archeologist and those poor souls that are long dead won't mind.

  17. Well I imagine I will get joked on, but I love myDeus ll along with the three coils I own. They cover all the ground I need. Now for the two box, it also is intriguing as living on the east coast of Virginia, there is no shortage of treasure tales from pirates, civil war buried artifacts stolen from southern mansions, buried civil war payrolls and post hole banks galore!!! I for one am excited.

  19. According to an email calabash digger received this unit will have a two tone ID system. One for moderate ferrous and another for moderate non-ferrous. It will ignore small iron as a matter of course. The email also supposedly states that it will utilize FMF to eliminate ground falsing that plagues other two box units.

  20. Here is my dynamic duo. If I had to own the least number of detectors possible myself, this is what I would settle on. I can basically do anything with these two detectors. Gold nuggets, coins, jewelry, relics, beach & snorkel work, you name it, this has it pretty well covered. You can argue some other detector might be better than one of these for this or that, and I'll not argue with anyone. But the Axiom plus my Micronox (trademark pending ) weigh in at a hair over 7 lbs total, and obviously take up next to no room in my rig. Various Micronox Options Here

  21. I have to think the 10x5 elliptical FMF will be our Christmas present this year from XP. And as much as I thought I would never need a 2-box unit, I have to say I'm intrigued. I really want to know how that all works, and with that and the forthcoming small FMF coil, no target could ever hide from the D2! 😏

  23. I've helped look for lost items in people's houses with some success. I always try to start by having the person retrace their steps exactly if they can remember each step. As for locations......men generally hide stuff in the garage, workshop, master bedroom, den/study, and attic, in that order of likely spots. Women are more likely to hide things in the kitchen or pantry, master bedroom, and laundry room. A pin pointer can help sometimes, but, a regular detector isn't likely to help. Under certain circumstances, one with a tiny coil and with the sensitivity turned way down can work too.

  24. Yea, but they'd be Minelab branded scales and if the same engineer makes them as made the Manticore or Equinox 700/900 the scales numbers would bounce around all over the place so you'd find yourself estimating the weight of your gold.

  28. I doubt it - Minelab just uses date of original purchase for warranty and does not use how much time was put on the unit for validity of a warranty. If you are looking for a used one and want to verify how much it was used, look at the front display screen buttons for wear, the tightness of the battery latch, scratches or wear on the bottom and feet of the main unit, and the condition of the audio and main coil cord jacks. Do the jacks seem loose or dirty inside? Check the audio and see if it sounds scratchy, especially on the older units that have volume control knobs. Are the membrane buttons pressed in, have scratches and look worn out? Don’t count on easily replaceable items like new looking coil skid plates, coils and shafts to determine how much time a unit has been used.

  40. In 'theory' a very good idea, but how many twin boxes units are sold around the world as it is a specialised piece of equipment, they do what they are supposed to do and not your everyday type of detector so my personal opinion is they may have not as many sales as what they think they will get......this add on twin coil set up on top of the original high cost of buying a Deus2 has to be a crazy amount over say a normal Deus 9'' or 11'' coil,so they will sell some but certainly not in high volumes.......not for me alas i will stick with my Fisher TW-5 twin box which i brought almost new for sub £200 that will do the same as this new Deus hoard coil.

  41. You are right Rick, I have used with great effect on dry beach (fresh water) recent drops, shallow lost items in yards, etc... I like it precisely for its "lack of depth🤔", but massive coverage! Even if its kinda weird, with it's figure 8 design!! Also have both four and five pin "Clean Sweeps" for my Tesoro's for the same reason! I don't mind being considered a detecting "oddball", as long as stuff works for what I want! It look's like I'm sweeping for landmines when I use them! Guess if I wore a "Bomb Tech" shirt, that might be pushing it a bit!!😂 When I can find a good deal on a "gently used" Arrow, my MXT AP, and/or Technetics G2 is ready for one! 🍀👍👍

  44. One of the major things you'll find with something like that Manticore that you'll miss with your Equinox 800 is the big hole in your wallet buying the Manticore leaves. Detectors were already so good before these new ones come out that there is not a significant difference in my opinion, yes they have strong points older models may not, how much that changes someones finds really depends on what they hunt and where, for a majority of people I suspect there would be very little difference in their finds.

  45. GB , Benny Le Dous asked if anybody had adapted a Nox coil to the Manti ? Nobody has that we know of .... but ... people who pull apart sealed units like the Nox so they can post pictures on the net may also not take Minelab's statement at face value either . Obviously we would learn if the Nox coil could possibly handle the "extra power" . That would be the "truth" Yes it would be "efficient time expenditure" if you can make a coil work which is in a non available size . A 6 inch coil conversion for the Manti would prove very popular , if possible .

  46. The 12x7 continues to shine. This was a few days ago. Today I found a few more, one was .027 and I hit a 1/4 gramer at over 10" deep in rock layers that sounded alot bigger than it was. Last year I commented how I was only finding bigger nuggets with the stock coil and thought I was missing the crumbs in our claims. The 12x7 is proving that was the case. This coil impresses me everyday I use it.

  47. I am a big fan of that combo. Hope to get to use it soon. I may throw the 24K (absolutely love its audio) or the Legend (water hunting) in sometimes too. My Deus 2 is also about to go bye, bye............Just doesn't fit my needs as much as the Equinox and Legend.

  48. PI isn’t affected the same but a lot of saturation signal comes from high X ground, this is especially noticeable with the Flat wound coils, they see a LOT of X. Hence why I tell people to not scrub the coil in highly mineralised soils/gravels etc. X signal is no joke on the 7000 so I’m surprised by all the head in the sand humour surrounding it’s use on here 😁. Yeah I get the humour, Octopus dance, Ferrit, ritualised activities around the fragile yellow round thing etc,🤣 but in reality it is an important aspect to ZVT and should be taken very seriously.🤗 Just because you don’t understand its use or can’t see the benefits doesn’t mean you should not use it and instead become part of the Anti-Ferriters,🙃 there is another very hot topic raging around the world as we speak that follows a similar vein. Just because a LOT of people agree with you does not make it correct. 🤭 Use it, don’t use, get Ferrited or be a vocal Anti-Ferriter that’s your choice,😁 hey better yet buy a 6000 or an Axiom then you don’t have to do the Octopus dance of zero comprehension!!😁 I’m amazed after all this time that there are still people out there who refuse to inoculate with the Ferrite,😄 I honestly thought that discussion had been put to bed. Just like that hot world topic there are plenty of people who aren’t Ferrited who do perfectly fine without all the hoopla of the ritual of the “Yellow Lord of the Rings” 🤣 so at the end of the day its your choice, just please don’t deride what you don’t understand.😋 JP
