  1. All Garrett metal detectors, pinpointers, and search coils are now warrantied for three years from date of original purchase. This includes current owners who bought within the last two years - you just got an extra year warranty for free! 1. The new three year warranty is retroactive to all Garrett detector, pinpointer, and search coil purchases in the last two years. 2. Detectors are warrantied from time of original purchase, regardless of who owns them. But second owners better get a copy of that purchase receipt to prevent bumps in the road. 3. Also international sales - the Garrett website is being updated today to reflect that. Big kudos to Garrett. I've been in the retail game a long time, and can promise that going retroactive on something like this is not what most companies would do.

  2. The 12" nugget finder is a very good coil, it's more sensitive to smaller gold than the standard coil, while still maintaining about the same depth on bigger gold. It is significantly lighter than the 14" coil, and you do notice the difference. This of course means being able to swing for longer and keep concentrating due to less fatigue, which means more gold. I have found nuggets as big as 5.5 ozt and as small My scales won't weigh. 2 deepest nuggets I found were an 11 grammar that was very deep, and just a signal and a 44 grammar both of which were past knee deep.

  4. Finally got the emi fix done on my 6000. 20 minute wait at miners den Bendigo. I just couldn't bring myself to post it to minelab, 14 day turnaround they said over the phone when I rang to see whether it was needed. I can say that I'm pleasantly surprised by the fix. First 2 hours of testing after the fix running with speaker only no more crazy emi problems, especially when I put it on the ground to recover a target . Next 2 hours with headphones, and no problems. Very happy with the fix.🙂

  5. This is a personal and U.S. centric perspective. When I started detecting over 50 years ago these were the main companies (alphabetical order): Compass Fisher Garrett Tesoro White’s Compass eventually went under, and was replaced by a newbie from Australia… Fisher Garrett Minelab Tesoro White’s Then much later Tesoro faded away and was replaced by another newcomer…. Fisher Garrett Minelab White’s XP And finally just a couple years ago, White’s shut their doors, with another newcomer becoming a major player…. Fisher Garrett Minelab Nokta XP Now again, this is just my personal opinion, and probably premature. The fact however is that First Texas (Fisher, Bounty Hunter, Teknetics) has been dying for ten years. Basically rehashing old product, with new attempts failing before they make it out of the starting gate. Given their marketing efforts, or l should say lack thereof, they are increasingly invisible and irrelevant. This was hammered home to me by the last three marketing questionnaires I got from XP and Minelab. They asked about the competition, Garrett, Nokta, each other, and even Quest. But no mention of First Texas brands. Clearly Minelab and XP no longer consider them to be competition. And unless Fisher pulls a rabbit out of their hat, and soon, I agree. But as far as I know all they have cooking is a PI and that’s not going to save the day. They need a top tier multi to get back in the game. Frankly, I think they are dead man walking - just my opinion. That being the case I really think we only have four serious competitors right now. Quest might be able to enter the ranks, but not yet. They have some good product, but no real visibility in this market. So for whatever it is worth, I think we are down from a Big 5 to a Big 4 at the moment. Either Quest or First Texas could reclaim the fifth position if either can advance their game beyond where they are at this time. 6. It’s a typical limitation of magnetic style connectors and an input voltage limit of five volts because a USB Type A connector is used. The magnetic interface point of the connector which is great for creating a waterproof electrical connection point, is also a relatively high resistance point which will overheat if you crank too much current through it (these are known as I-squared-R power losses and temperature at that connector “gap” rapidly increases as the square (power of 2) of current increases) and the exposed contact points can arc over if too much voltage is applied. Computers use power delivery USB C type connectors with high voltage series and parallel connected battery cell combinations to support the high power and long endurance demands of laptops, this also enables higher voltages and currents to be applied to enable rapid charging. The Manticore charge power limit is probably around 15 watts or less (5 volts at less than 3 amps), whereas laptops can draw 150 watts or more from their brick chargers.

  8. The one thing that really irritates me about my Deus 2 is how fiddly it is to connect the charging cable to the remote. I know I don't necessarily have to tighten it down to get a connection, but just having to fiddle with lining up the pins is annoying to me. Surely there's a better way. I'm assuming only a couple of those pins are for charging. So, my question for anyone with knowledge of electronics is, would something like this be possible? .. and if so, do you think this is something other users would be interested in? The cap would remain on the remote at all times so that when a charge is needed, it would be as simple as connecting the magnets. I don't know much about this sort of thing, so this may be just another one of my goofy ideas that's either too much trouble or not even possible. It just came to mind after I saw something similar for USB-C connections like this one: Thoughts?

  9. I thought some of you guys (or gals) might find this interesting. To go back about 4 years...I started looking into resistivity because of the 2.2lb hunk of mearly pure copper I found in northeast Nevada. I'm still convinced there's a large lode there somewhere. So jump to now, and I had mentioned to an online friend last fall that I had used Resistivity down there, and had some, but limited experience with, but I'd built a power supply, and a system to work with a free 2d software package. He asked me to come up to the Helena area where he has several claims, and teach him how to use the system. So, Friday Chris and I loaded the Casita andm headed north. Saturday we went to one of his claims in the Marysville area. The metals, mostly copper and gold, in this area come either from quartz veins or are ancient pockets of sedimentary deposits. We wanted to determine if the oxydized copper we were finding on the surface came from a quartz vein, or were pockets of debris from farther up the hill. The image attached is what the software kicked out after we took 48 readings. Those 48 readings took the 4 of us about 6 hours to do, and then I spent another couple of hours doing the math so I could input the data in a form the software would accept. We only went to a depth of about 3 meters, as were trying to determine if there were rising quartz veins below the oxydized copper they'd been finding. In the image, the light blue is the low-resisitvity rock, and is what we want to see. The green/yellow is broken rock and overburden of various densities, and the orange/brown and deep blue/purpler is the undisturbed bedrock. You can see the pockets containing the oxydized copper they'd found, and you can also see they don't extend below about 5' of depth (1.5 meters). We covered about a 50 meter distance along an access road cut into the hillside.

  10. Mine do the same. I now disconnect the headphones first, before pulling the plug from the wall. If I pull the plug from the wall first, they turn on and I have to shut them off, other wise they drain power.

Australian one-cent coin - Wikipedia They were introduced on 14 February 1966 in the decimalisation of Australian currency and was withdrawn from circulation in 1992 (along with the two-cent coin) A 1¢ in 1966 would have a purchasing power equal to about 15c in 2022 values.

  13. That sounds significant. To have a constricted 1/16" hole likely means the hole diameter is important. I think that argues for some kind of gas passage, possibly a flammable gas. Your lamp idea is gaining legitimacy.

  14. Daniel. on Spectra V3i.. you can use 3 things to eliminate Emi... 1. use the Offset Frequency function ..and find the most stable channel of 3Fmultifrequency /or also F1 frequency/.. 2. use TX Bost ON and at the same time reduce the level reduce the RX gain level.*/ rx gain 5-8 max!!!/.. so the detector gains stability in EMI... and at the same time you can also obtain a deep range... even in various mineralized terrain... provided you use the correct high ground filter... I would keep the sensitivity of DS at the level of DS 88 and DS 92 to obtain the best depth of detection.. 3. use band pass type ground filters - these are more resistant to emi.. and 5Hz band, 7.5Hz band, 10 Hz band, or 12.5 Hz band filter. _according to the level of mineralization of the terrain... and also set Modulation of sound ... to a low value up to 3 max ... then the detector does not amplify weak audio signals,, ...a 12.5hz high filter can also be very resistant to EMI, but it is very shallow.../it is good in 2D separation/ One more thing. For fast operation of the detector, set the recovery delay to 25-30.max. in combination with a 10hz band filter or a 12.5hz band filter. max, and the V3i Spectra is fast enough but also deep enough... if you work in mix mode, you can also use a faster SAT...for example on value 15-20 SAT....and the detector will process targets from the static all metal channel faster....

  16. I'll tell ya another one along the same lines...not having the ability to customize tone breaks/bins and disc patterns via PC or tablet, then uploading or downloading them to the machine. They had this right on the CTX and eTrac IMO. I absolutely hate scrolling and editing all that crap on the machine itself. Easier to drop and drag with a mouse cursor, etc.

  17. The key is in cleaning it correctly. The original surface is hair thin and totally corroded. You see where it has cone off in a few places. Underneath it fluffy green corrosion, and under that pitted metal with brown corrosion. To preserve the original surface, I dried the buckle slowly, then used a soft brush to get the loose dirt off, then applied a penetrating, hardening oil (Odie's Oil) to stabilize the surface. I used a soft brush to work it in, and a soft, lintfree cloth to remove the excess (and extra dirt). Then I put it away for a week or so to give the oil time to cure. Now it's safe to handle, and the surface is preserved. You can even see tool marks where the maker cleaned up the casting. if I had rinsed it in water, all this would have been lost.

  18. Found this while detecting for coins & relics in old gold mining area that has a long gone mid 1800s-early 1900s townsite nearby. At first I thought it was part of a smoking pipe, but now thinking an old gas lamp fitting. Wider end threaded, other end not. Ornate fish design and with English lettering on end….can only make out “HOFF”. Whatever it is, pretty cool! Thoughts?

  20. I haven't been to this location for at least a couple of years. The river has finally dropped considerably, opening more potential gold bearing locations. Today I went there and did several test pans. The first few indicated only 6-7 fly poops. I searched an area near an island of grass, and bingo! There were about 80 poops/pan. I dug both the roots and surrounding gravel and got some vitamin "G." Three hours digging, four clean-ups got this today.

  21. Well surf was calm this morning and I finally got back out Nice change from getting knocked over and beat up in the surf of the Atlantic. Did end up to my neck getting a pair of sunglasses out 😆. Darn things rang up like a gold ring. Hotter than @#%$ down here so nice to be in the water up to waist maybe a lil deeper at times. Actually did not want to get out or leave, but my list of things to do today was a little long. Wife met me when I stepped out of the water. She did good with coins so it helped pay the gas for the day 😊. Only bad thing was I lost the 925 opal ring I dug in the surf to her waiting hands😆 😛. First target of day was the cheap gold plated sun earring that I barely could make out in the dark, but saw the color. Translation = junker, but it got the heart pumping. Beaches long and flat but I did have an area that had a trough running along the beach and a few deeper holes. Wife did score a brand new Samsung Galaxy S23 1ft down in wet sand and we were able to get it back to a visitor from St Augustine. Meet the young guy at a local park — yep he said he just bought it. He tried handing me money, but I refused to take. Told him take his wife to dinner instead. Used D2 dive program and it worked great (smooth). Beach Sense when out of the surf and on the beach/wet. Mainly looking for fresh drops that’s why the pulse is taking a break and I need to figure this XP out. Hopefully I get some time to read other posts tonight. Just been busy.

  23. So, third time out with the LEGEND. Went to a several acre field used for parking during public events. This area is adjacent to Civil War earthworks used back in the day to guard a railway depot. I figured I'd go try to find some coinage or maybe jewelry. I'm set up to find junk. I get to cruising around, nothing exciting, and I get a nice solid tone in the high-40's, so I dig. I got down to around 7" or so and I notice a fire-ash burn line. My pointer is chirping away but I've got to go deeper. I'm sifting through the dirt and I find a dirty small round orb. Then I find another! And then a third!!! I'm thinking I found an old burn pit where soldiers melted lead to make mini-balls. SCORE!!! I get home and soak them in soapy water for a bit and the clean up is not going very well at all. Lot's of rusty looking stuff...I'm thinking this just isn't right!! I grab a magnet off of the fridge and BAM! My mini-balls turn out to be steel ball-bearings. What an emotional roller coaster!!! It amazes me that so much "stuff" is buried underneath the Earth's surface. How or why in the heck was a burn pit located there with ball-bearings in it? We will never know...

  24. These two hunts aren't the first i have used the 900 but are the for July. On Friday 7th i went to the beach alone and searched between the tides and i the water. I started at around 5.45am and stayed till after 10am. My finds for that hunt were £5.47p , a Silver chain , a Silver ring and 2 junk rings. On Saturday 8th i went with a mate and started a lot further alone the beach we started at 9pm and after a while my mate gave up due to the finds rate being pretty poor. Thats due to cashless. As i had to carry on to get to the bus stop for home i started to search between the tide marks again and this time i came up trumps. I had a number 56 i think it was and around 4 inches down i found a 5.6g 9k Gold ring . I phoned my mate and i think he may have regretted leaving early. After that i carried on a few feet and about 12 feet from the last target i got a number 32 on the screen and again after digging down about 4 or 5 inches i found another Gold ring which is 2.6g of 9k. Other finds for the evening were £9.20p and a foreign coin and a junk chain. I find the 900 quite a good machine. Far better than the 800 . My next hunt will be next weekend , not sure which machine , maybe the Legend or maybe the E.Trac. My Terra Pro is in its box for now. Thats done alright so far after finding a 22k Gold ring last Month. Might be the E.Trac's turn if the weather stays dry.

  27. So many times people ask like you what’s the best detector but what we should be asking is how good am I. I myself have been at this for years but in the past most was just turn on and go . Now days most detectors you can still turn on and go but if you want the full benefit then this is where your part of learning your detector kicks in . A detector will be no better than you make it.Most detectors now days require you spending time learning what it can do for you. Only you can make both of you better and that’s bye you reading watching videos and the main thing in the field finding out what your detector has to offer. In the field day after day of swinging it is going to give you more knowledge above all. In pass years I’ve said buy the best detector you can afford. Then get out there detecting and over time it will pay for it’s self . Now days I don’t see that anymore because people and me included got to have the latest and greatest. I wish you the best in whatever you buy. Chuck

  28. If that happened here in the U.K, the clean-up would be easier, as the majority of our 1c-equivalent coins ( 1 pence ) are steel, plated with a lustrous layer of the finest copper. So a magnet would do a good job of 'sweeping up'. Hopefully it would be completed before they turn into brown bubble-surfaced garbage.

  29. F350 — yea the ring I think is older. Looks like something off of ‘silvertribe’ website. Which is great site to look up that type of ring finds. Might have just found something close to it on Etsy. Doesn’t matter as long as my wife is happy 😃 with her new ring. The arrow pendant was neat shame it wasn’t silver too like you said. Troughs aren’t too pronounced right now so we have to take what we can get. Summer sand pattern. Just happy to find them when I can. Sure is nice wading though. Probably going to try some remote beaches coming up to see conditions.

  32. Hmmm, tricky questions, and setting off my "uh-oh??" alarm too. The EBL PP3 batteries are 600 mAh. That's what every seller states they are, and it's what their website say, too: EBL PP3 Li So if you've seen some claiming to be 650mAh, I'm getting suspicious they are fakes/copies. Yes, there are now other brands of two-cell Lithium PP3's, and some claim, and may actually be, higher capacity. I'm sure it's possible to squeeze a few more mAh in the box. Trouble is, EBL seem a good brand, and they've been making these PP3's for a while, now. All these other Chinese 'brands' I've never heard of ... Now.. the AA cells. You got me worried as soon as I read 3300mWh. This is the warning trigger for wierd and wacky stuff. Sure enough, I think you are referring to these things: Lithium AA The answer is a big NO. They consist of a lithium cell, ( about 800 mAh capacity ), with some magic electronics board** integrated in the package, to drop 3.7V down to 1.5V. They are not what you need, they produce electrical interference, and need a special charger. You just need plain old NiMH ( nickel metal hydride ) rechargeable cells. Any old crepe will do, they will outlast the PP3 easily. Even AAA cells would be OK, as many of them are 900 mAh+ capacity now. You might even have some suitable AA's at home, or maybe a trickle charger for them. I use some pretty low spec NiMH's in my Fisher F75, they still run it fine. If you in the market for some AA rechargeables, however, the best brand is generally considered to be Panasonic Eneloop. There's a few 'flavours' including the LSD / Low Self-Discharge type, which stay charged up for months on end. ** Buck mode switching regulator

  33. A few days every year I take a break from beach hunting and hit the fresh water lakes in my area. Yesterday, a friend and I were hunting in the shallow water of one such lake when my Nox 800 started acting funny. I then noticed water behind the detector's display window. 😮 Fortunately, we had an old reliable Fisher 1280-x backup detector in the car and I was able to continue the hunt and even find a couple of nice silver bracelets. The small chain in the picture was an eyeball find. My Nox warranty expired a while ago but I will send my detector (control box only) in to the repair facility in Pennsylvania to see what my options are. I will report back on the process and results when complete.

  40. This is an interesting paper on how it was used for a gold mining operation- they used it to find additional potential lode deposits near an inactive mine by taking measurements along three parallel lines, and were using quite an expensive professional grade unit with multiple sensors arranged in an array- much like the geophones used for seismic studies. https://www.scielo.br/j/remi/a/NP37ZfKM4yFkFrLYtCXSq8c/?lang=en# I guess in your case Jim, we’re you running a line by hand with just 2 probes? Could you share a bit more about your setup?

  41. Interesting seeing these issues with the 105's . I have no trouble charging mine , doesn't take long . When I disconnect the power from mine when fully charged about 50% of the time they then go onto WiFi search . At first I did not notice the little blue light was on , and still was the next day . Wondered why they went flat very quickly at the beach ! Now I always check and often have to turn the headphones off . Seems that we will see more of these issues over time .
