  2. The Fisher Impulse AQ Ltd is a new pulse induction (PI) metal detector that saw limited release beginning in June 2020. Production is to be limited to 99 units, with about 30 made by December 2020. The Fisher Impulse AQ is the first of a planned series of new pulse induction detectors from Fisher Research. The AQ (AQua) is a waterproof model intended for beach and water hunting. Pulse induction technology offers extreme performance on highly mineralized beaches that inhibit the depths attainable with VLF metal detectors. The Impulse AQ has been released first as a limited production model (less than 100 units will be manufactured), the Impulse AQ Limited. This machine has a depth rating of three feet and a NiMH battery with running time of up to 3.5 hours. The battery is attached by an exposed cable that is the main cause for the 3 foot depth rating, and which must be handled with care. The Fisher Impulse AQ Limited is being offered for a short time to enthusiasts who understand and accept these limitations, at a very attractive price. Development will continue on a future release with a deeper waterproof rating and longer battery life in a more robust physical package, but at a higher price. New Fisher Impulse AQ Ltd pulse induction metal detector The Fisher Impulse AQ offers excellent depth and superb sensitivity to gold jewelry - the machine is highly optimized for finding gold rings in particular. The most anticipated feature is discrimination better than that currently offered on any other pulse induction metal detector. The discrimination is focused more on high value gold rings than coins, and may actually exclude many coins if enabled. This is not considered a problem for many serious beach hunters as a lot of time is wasted recovering coins under difficult conditions when gold rings are actually the desired target. The compact waterproof design and relatively light weight is also attracting attention. Other Impulse models are expected to be aimed at gold prospectors and possibly even the relic/coin detecting market. 5. The Garrett Goldmaster 24K metal detector was originally introduced by White's Electronics in 2018, and was still in production when White’s closed up shop in 2020. Garrett Metal Detectors subsequently purchased White's, and the 24K has the distinction of being the only White's model that Garrett decided was worth continuing to produce. All accessories like coils are compatible on both versions. The Garrett Goldmaster 24K is a 48 kHz induction balance metal detector aimed primarily at gold prospecting. "Featuring a 50% increase in coil voltage over previous models along with an all-new XGB ground balance system, take your prospecting to new depths with the Goldmaster 24k. This machine represents a new generation of VLF detection technology, with features that both sourdough and greenhorn prospectors can appreciate. Starting with the industry-standard 48 kHz operating frequency, we’ve packed all the necessities into one package to put you on the gold. A large, backlit display shows you all the machine’s settings as well as valuable target information. The Target Graph at the top of the display shows Ferrous, Gold, and High Conductor ranges, which is mirrored with Target ID numbers ranging from 0-99. An all-new XGB ground balance system can handle mineralized ground unlike other VLF prospecting machines." Source: Goldmaster 24K brochure Garrett Goldmaster 24K metal detector Garrett Goldmaster 24K control panel For advanced users, TracLock and Ground Grab are just a tap of button away. You can assign a ground balance offset in both TracLock or XGB modes. To help prospectors that prefer drywashing, sluicing, or panning, the Goldmaster 24k features a Ground Scan mode that can show you where valuable paystreaks are in streambeds and washes. The Goldmaster 24K offers 10 levels of adjustable sensitivity, adjustable audio volume with two levels of Boost, adjustable discrimination, vSAT, adjustable threshold, non-motion pinpoint, and a Tone ID mode. But don’t let that scare you if this is your first prospecting machine – this is a turn-on-and-go machine, with advanced features you can grow into as you gain experience. SENSITIVITY – Set the sensitivity at a level that does not result in false signals from the ground. Very strong ground may result in the symbol on screen and a loud sound – this means the sensitivity is too high. GROUND BALANCE – With the default setting, the detector will use XGB to automatically ground balance. Tap to lock the ground balance to the current setting. Tapping when the ground balance is locked will update the current ground setting to what is under the coil. GROUND SCAN – Hold to put the detector into Ground Scan mode. The top bar displays the ground strength and the two digit numbers display the ground type (phase). Useful for tracing paystreaks. IRON CANCEL – Tap to silence hot rocks, trash and mineral changes in both audio modes. Hold to select the Iron Cancel setting (1 bar is default). Note that this setting may decrease the detector’s sensitivity to very small gold, but is necessary in difficult ground conditions. VOLUME and THRESHOLD – Tap to adjust the volume with the up and down buttons. Hold to adjust the threshold with the up and down buttons (“th” displays on screen). Set these to a comfortable level for your hearing and preference. AUDIO MODE – With the displayed on screen, the detector is in “BEEP” audio mode (high tone = good target, low tone = bad target). The default setting (without on screen) is a traditional All-Metal audio mode with greater sensitivity to small targets. SAT – SAT can smooth out ground inconsistencies. Hold to adjust it (“Sa” displays on screen, 2 is the default setting). PINPOINT – Hold for non-motion pinpoint mode. In difficult ground this mode may be affected by mineralization. BACKLIGHT – Tap to enable the backlight (this reduces battery life). FREQUENCY SHIFT – Hold when turning the detector on to shift frequency (useful when there is EMI). Power off to save the selection. FACTORY RESET – Hold when turning the detector on to perform a factory reset. AUDIO - Built in speaker, 1/4” headphone jack, lightweight headphones included. BATTERIES - 8 AA Rechargeable NiMH batteries included, with International mains charger, plus 12V charging adapter. WEIGHT - 3.5 lbs COILS - 6" x 10" DD standard. 7. The Fisher Impulse Gold is a new ground balancing pulse induction (GBPI) metal detector with probable availability in 2021. The new Fisher Impulse Gold is a gold prospecting model being developed alongside the Fisher Impulse AQ model, which is intended for beach and water hunting. The Impulse Gold is expected to offer excellent depth and superb sensitivity to small gold nuggets due to an very low pulse delay capability. The compact design and light weight is also attracting a lot of attention. A major design difference from the AQ model will be the inclusion of a ground balance control to deal with mineralized ground conditions. There may or may not be any ferrous discrimination features as are offered in the Fisher Impulse AQ due to the almost infinite range of target id numbers spanned by naturally occurring gold nuggets. It is likely that this model will also find applications with relic hunters, as has been the case with previous pulse induction gold prospecting metal detectors. Production of the AQ Limited ceased in December 2020. According to this post, the final Impulse AQ will be released by July 2021, and it will sell for between $2800 and $3500. How this relates to the Impulse Gold model is unknown at this time. The photo below shows the Fisher Impulse AQ prototype - the Fisher Impulse AU is probably of similar design although testing has been mentioned with a smaller coil. Fisher Impulse Gold Prototype New information will be added here when available. All information here is very preliminary and subject to change, especially pricing and final specifications. Everything is really just guesses based on the Fisher Impulse AQ plus a couple things mentioned on the forums, such as the coil size. It is a selectable frequency metal detector aimed primarily at beach detecting at this time but that may find applications in relic detecting and other types of detecting. The Tarsacci MDT 8000 allows the operator to choose between one of four operating frequencies - 6.4, 9, 12, and 18 kHz. Tarsacci is a new U.S. based company just getting off the ground , founded by Dimitar Gargov. Dimitar worked previously at Fisher Labs and is credited with being a major force in the development of the Fisher Gold Strike, Coin Strike, and ID Edge detectors. The Tarsacci MDT 8000 is a different detector in that it is employing time domain processing in a selectable single frequency detector. This is in addition to the frequency based phase processing typical of most single frequency detectors, and so the MDT 8000 is being referred to as having multi domain processing, or as the Tarsacci website calls it, Mixed Domain Technology. This means the MDT 8000 has some unique capabilities and operating characteristics compared to nearly all standard single frequency detectors on the market today. The method employed is unique and currently has a patent application pending. In particular, the MDT 8000 features completely different controls for handling ground balancing, and also what it refers to as a salinity balance control. Multifrequency detectors usually handle the compensation for ground and salt mineralization as an under the hood process beyond user control. The Tarsacci MDT 8000 gives you the ability to ground balance with one control, and compensate for salinity and other low conductive issues with a separate control. In a nutshell, this unique ability is what makes the MDT 8000 different from other metal detectors available today. See the owner's manual link below for details. Tarsacci MDT-8000 metal detector From the Tarsacci MDT 8000 Owner's Manual: "The Tarsacci was developed under the premise of mineralized dirt. There is a wide variance of minerals around the World. As such, performance may be gained (in many cases) with "Black Sand" and/or "Salt" Mode(s) invoked, even if local dirt conditions do not contain black sand or salt. Finding a few deeper targets; then experimenting with the Black Sand and Salt Modes on these deeper targets, can be a real eye-opener. For example: a combination of natural graphite (a form of hot rock) present in mineralized magnetic soil. In this case, find a piece of native graphite. Using the salinity balance function, balance the detector to it: then ground balance the detector. With a proper salinity balance setting, the graphite will no longer exist to the detector and the targets ID and detectability range, in graphite presence, will be greatly improved (unmasking more targets). Depending upon local conditions, the Tarsacci can use the conductivity of the wet-salt to enhance overall depth performance. This is to say; there may be cases whereby buried wet-salt performance presents better results when compared to air-test performance. It is also common for the conductive wet-salt to increase depth performance too much; subsequently, lowering the Sensitivity a few points becomes a 'stability' requirement. Remember: The intended purpose of balancing the Tarsacci to "Salt"...… is to generate a condition whereby the Tarsacci no longer sees the wet-salt; unlike conventional detectors that must phase-shift out/compensate for the wet salt. If the Tarsacci sees/uses too much of the conductive properties of the wet-salt, the unit may become unstable; hence, zero the salt via "Salt" balance. Use this function wisely and to your advantage. If the volume of salt becomes too conductive (i.e.: submerged in salt water) it may also become a requirement to lower Sensitivity in order to bring excessive (unstable) depth performance back down to maximum (stable) depth performance." 17. The Fisher Gold Bug DP is a version of the Fisher Gold Bug Pro metal detector that was introduced in 2010 and is still in production. It is a 19 khz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at gold prospecting, relic, jewelry, and coin detecting. The Gold Bug Pro has been a very popular entry level gold prospecting detector. Note that the Fisher Gold Bug Pro normally comes with a non-standard 5" round coil. This is good for nugget detecting but too small for most common uses. The Fisher Gold Bug DP is simply a Fisher Gold Bug Pro that comes with the 7" x 11" DD instead of the 5" round DD coil. "The Gold Bug® family has revolutionized gold prospecting with new prospecting tools, Target-ID, incredible depth and all at an affordable price! Its fast retune speed and biaxial Search coils create superb target separation with impressive depth. V-BreakTM, the industry's first Variable Breakpoint tone discrimination system, allows user control of the multi-tone Audio ID system. This feature helps distinguish iron targets with a distinctive low audio tone while non-ferrite targets like gold, induce high tones. Tone discrimination combines with a dead-accurate Visual ID system to give gold prospectors a vital new tool in finding gold without having to dig any iron targets. An expanded 40-Point Iron ID target range helps differentiate between larger iron objects and smaller nails and pieces. The way it minimizes the masking effects of ferrous targets near non-ferrous targets is simply amazing! Coin and relic hunters marveled at how well the Gold Bug® Pro performed with our legendary 11 "DD Searchcoil, and the Gold Bug® DP was bom. Two more unique features are the real-time display of the Ground Phase value and an Fe304 meter that indicates the amount of mineralization present. These features monitor changes in soil conditions to locate and trace black sand concentrations where gold is commonly found. The Ground Balance system handles the toughest of ground conditions, capable of balancing all the way to salt. No longer do you need a specialized detector for prospecting and another for coins and relics; the Gold Bug excels at both!" The GMX is a 48 kHz induction balance metal detector waterproof to ten feet aimed primarily at the jewelry detecting and gold prospecting markets. The GMX Sport is physically based on the White's MX Sport housing but otherwise is a Goldmaster 24K electronically. The control functions are identical the the Goldmaster 24K and the display screen is also identical to the 24K. The introductory offer for the White’s GMX Sport includes TWO search coils, the round 6.5" concentric, and the 4" x 6" DD oval. The Whites waterproof headphones are also included, plus an adapter for standard 1/4" detector headphones. The GMX Sport MSRP is $899.95 with an internet price of $827.95 White's Goldmaster GMX Sport metal detector For advanced users of the White's GMX Sport, TracLock and Ground Grab are just a tap of button away. You can assign a ground balance offset in both TracLock or XGB modes. To help prospectors that prefer drywashing, sluicing, or panning, the GMX features a Ground Scan mode that can show you where valuable paystreaks are in stream beds and washes. The GMX Sport offers 10 levels of adjustable sensitivity, adjustable audio volume with two levels of Boost, adjustable discrimination, vSAT, adjustable threshold, non-motion pinpoint, and a Tone ID mode. But don’t let that scare you if this is your first prospecting machine – this is a turn-on-and-go machine, with advanced features you can grow into as you gain experience. WATERPROOF HOUSING IP-68 certified waterproof to 10 feet COILS - 6” round concentric and 4" x 6" DD coils both included as part of the Introductory Special. Optional "6 x 10" DD and 8" x 14" DD coils are available. The TDI BeachHunter is basically a waterproof TDI SL and performance is about the same. "Common VLF detectors, even multi-frequency ones, can struggle in strong mineralization or salt conditions. That’s where the power of Pulse Induction can help you find more treasure! Specially-built for both the beach and the goldfields, the TDI BeachHunter offers extreme depth performance on land or sea. Waterproof to 25 ft, the TDI BeachHunter punches deep at the beach, in goldfields, or even in difficult relic areas like red clay. The adjustable Pulse Delay lets you set the machine up for maximum sensitivity to fine gold jewelry, small nuggets, and hammered coins at depth. Just set your ground balance, adjust your gain, and start swinging! With the dual-tone audio users quickly learn the difference in sounds, and adjustable volume and threshold controls allow flexibility for different hunters’ preferences. At only 5.2 lbs, the TDI BeachHunter is ready for action, and an included hip and chest-mount pouch allows for users to customize the machine to their own hunting style. The included Heavy-Duty NiMH rechargeable battery extends the run-time to about 6 hrs, and the backup 8 AA battery pack means you’re setup for long days in search of gold, silver, or relics. The patented 12″ Dual-Field search coil features two coils in one – a small, inner coil with higher sensitivity to small targets, and larger outer ring that punches deep into salt or other mineralization. 26. The Teknetics G2 metal detector was introduced in 2014 and is still in production. It is a 19 khz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at relic, jewelry, coin, and gold nugget detecting. "The new G2+ is unique among relic hunting detectors for its versatile function as an all-purpose treasure detector and also its high sensitivity to small gold nuggets. The controls, menu options and features are tailored to relic-hunting, including a sophisticated ground balancing system, separate control over signal gain and threshold and a unique discrimination control system. These features also make for a great gold prospecting detector, especially when the G2+ is outfitted with the optional 5” DD searchcoil. While the G2+ makes for a highly competent coinshooting detector, its user interface and features are not specifically designed for this purpose. As a coin-shooter, you will notice that the G2+ exhibits slightly lower sensitivity to high-conductivity coins, like a U.S. quarter; this is a result of its specialized design to emphasize sensitivity to smaller, lower conductivity metals like relics and gold nuggets. The G2+ is outfitted with a 11”DD open elliptical searchcoil as standard equipment since this searchcoil construction is best-suited to relic-hunting. At the trashiest sites, you may find the smaller optional 5”DD searchcoil makes pinpointing easier, is better suited to penetrate highly mineralized soils and improves target separation." 28. This is a simple listing of metal detector models which I will be filling out with models new and old as I have time. The intent is to have basic information on metal detector models for easy reference. The models are listed alphabetically by manufacturer but by using the "Sort By" function can also be listed by weight, price, or other basic specifications. Links to manufacturer pages and owner's manuals are provided when possible. Discontinued models are highlighted, and when discontinued the price shown is the last known sale price new. The heart of the whole thing is intended to be the User Reviews. If enough people take the time to write up their basic thoughts about each model, pro and con, it can help others in the future. Please try and keep it on the level - critical commentary is good but trashing things just to trash them is not. Please note each forum member may leave one review only - this is not a discussion forum. Anyway, this is an experiment that will only prove its worth over time if everyone contributes. Thank you in advance for any review you post! See also Steve's Metal Detector Reviews for in-depth reviews of select models. 21st century metal detecting - fully submersible with wireless headphones

  33. The White's Goldmaster 24K metal detector was introduced in 2018 and was still in production when White’s closed up shop in 2020. It is a 48 kHz induction balance metal detector aimed primarily at gold prospecting. A waterproof version called the GMX Sport was released in 2020. Garrett Metal Detectors purchased White's Electronics, and the 24K bears the distinction of being the only model that Garrett continued to produce, as the Garrett Goldmaster 24K. All accessories like coils are compatible on both versions. An all-new XGB ground balance system can handle mineralized ground unlike other VLF prospecting machines." Source: Goldmaster 24K brochure White's Goldmaster 24K metal detector White's Goldmaster 24K control panel For advanced users, TracLock and Ground Grab are just a tap of button away. 34. The Fisher Impulse AQ is a new pulse induction (PI) metal detector with an expected released in 2022. The Fisher Impulse AQ is part of a series of new pulse induction detectors from Fisher Research. The AQ (AQua) is a waterproof model intended for beach and water hunting. Pulse induction technology offers extreme performance on highly mineralized beaches that inhibit the depths attainable with VLF metal detectors. The AQ was released first in 2020 as a limited production model, the Impulse AQ Limited. This machine has a depth rating of three feet and a NiMH battery with running time of up to 3.5 hours. The battery is attached by an exposed cable that is the main cause for the 3 foot depth rating, and which must be handled with care. The Impulse AQ Limited ceased production in December 2020 after a run of about thirty units. The 2022 production model of the Impulse AQ will feature various upgrades and improvements to the Limited version of the detector: Battery system replaced entirely with four drop in 18650 rechargeable Li-Ion batteries Depth rating to be increased Lower rod made longer to accommodate taller users Headphone connection being relocated to back of pod An 8” accessory coil is in the works Prototype Fisher Impulse AQ pulse induction metal detector The Fisher Impulse AQ offers excellent depth and superb sensitivity to gold jewelry - the machine is highly optimized for finding gold rings in particular. Threads on this websites First Texas Forum are tracking the latest developments. 41. The White's TDI SL metal detector was introduced in 2011 and was still in production when White’s closed up shop in 2020. It is a pulse induction (PI) metal detector aimed primarily at relics, gold prospecting, and beach detecting. "The TDI SL provide serious detectorists with affordable pulse power. Initially developed to meet the demands of gold prospectors searching for extremely small and deep nuggets, the TDI has evolved into a detector that has proven itself as an effective detector for relic hunting, beach hunting and, under the right conditions, even coin hunting. Many of the surface relics and nuggets have been found out there, leaving a layer of even more valuable treasures that other detectors couldn’t reach. That’s where the TDI’s pulse technology comes in. This is one deep-seeking unit - especially in the harsh grounds - where other detectors just can’t compete." 42. The Fisher CZ-21 metal detector was introduced in 2009 and is still in production. The CZ-21 replaces the earlier CZ-20 model and is essentially the same unit with slight modifications. The Fisher CZ-21 is a fully submersible multifrequency VLF metal detector aimed primarily at underwater use. The 250 foot maximum depth makes the CZ-21 suitable for use while SCUBA diving. Note that as a diving detector both the headphones and coil are hardwired into the control box and cannot be changed. There is a choice of 8" or 10.5" concentric coils at the time of purchase. "The CZ-21 and 1280X are housed in the most rugged enclosures and each have the same collapsible pole assemblies. A short pole assembly is desired when diving, but full extension is preferred when standing or wading. Both are submersible to 250 feet. The control housing can be easily removed for hip-mounting or it can be chest-mounted with an optional chest harness. The CZ-21 has a reputation for being the best saltwater metal detector ever made, while the 1280X is known for being the best fresh water detector, but both can be used in either environment. The CZ-21 is a multi-frequency metal detector that has adjustable discrimination, is easy to use and designed to handle the toughest mineral concentrations on any salt or fresh water beach. The CZ-21 also has Audio Tone Target-ID, a highly sought after feature that allows users to distinguish iron targets from gold. The CZ-21 delivers!" 43. The Fisher F75 Ltd metal detector is a model in the F75 series introduced in 2007 and is still in production. It is a 13 kHz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at coin, relic, jewelry, and gold nugget detecting. Note that the F75 Ltd was also called the F75 Special Edition, leading to some confusion regarding the various F75 models. The latest version of the F75 Ltd is the F75+. The original F75 Ltd model was upgraded in 2014 to include Digital Shielding Technology (DST) but the model name as sold remained the same. Earlier models are just called the F75 Ltd and the newer version is referred to as the F75 Ltd DST by users. These models should not be confused with the basic F75 model which also come with and without DST. "The F75 Ltd and Fisher F75 are two of the best metal detectors on the market today. Ideal for coins, relics, jewelry, caches and gold nuggets; they are truly versatile. When the F75 was released it raised the bar in the industry for impressive depth and incredible target separation capability. Its unparalleled "iron see-through" has been the talk of the industry. Sites thought to have been cleaned out now produce countless artifacts. These brothers of a sort share a core group of features. The Ltd version comes with additional Boost and Cache Modes, a 5" DD Round Searchcoil and a set of rain covers for the control and battery housing. The advanced technology of the Fisher F75 Ltd makes it the deepest and most versatile detector on the market today. Boost Mode increases depth and gives an added edge when hunting forest clutter or deep vegetation. Cache Mode detects large objects buried deep. Combined with our 15" DD Searchcoil it is the ideal combination when searching for deep caches, projectiles or meteorites. Also included with the F75 Ltd is a 5" DD round Searchcoil, excellent in trashy areas and for locating small items and gold nuggets. A set of rain covers for the control and battery compartments is also included." 44. The Fisher Gemini-3 metal detector was introduced in 1988 and is still in production. It is worth mentioning that the Gemini-3 is a direct descendent of the 1938 Fisher Metallascope or "M-Scope", the first ground penetrating metal detector to receive a patent. The Gemini-3 is a "two-box" metal detector that is designed for finding large objects at depth. Two box detectors are not sensitive to items much smaller than a baseball, but can detect large items like a 55 gallon drum or water main to depths exceeding ten feet. Two box detectors are a favorite of the classic "treasure hunter" but are more often used by utility companies and surveyors. "Two-box metal detectors are used by prospectors, geologists, treasure hunters and public utility companies to locate large, deep objects, ore veins, pipes and cables. Fisher Labs, the recognized leader in the field, was granted the first two-box metal detector patent in 1938. The GEMINI-3 is respected for being the best there is because it goes deeper, traces farther and is easier to use than any other cache finder in its class."
