The Fisher Impulse AQ Ltd is a new pulse induction (PI) metal detector that saw limited release beginning in June 2020. Production is to be limited to 99 units, with about 30 made by December 2020. The Fisher Impulse AQ is the first of a planned series of new pulse induction detectors from Fisher Research. The AQ (AQua) is a waterproof model intended for beach and water hunting. Pulse induction technology offers extreme performance on highly mineralized beaches that inhibit the depths attainable with VLF metal detectors.

The Impulse AQ has been released first as a limited production model (less than 100 units will be manufactured), the Impulse AQ Limited. This machine has a depth rating of three feet and a NiMH battery with running time of up to 3.5 hours. The battery is attached by an exposed cable that is the main cause for the 3 foot depth rating, and which must be handled with care. The Fisher Impulse AQ Limited is being offered for a short time to enthusiasts who understand and accept these limitations, at a very attractive price. Development will continue on a future release with a deeper waterproof rating and longer battery life in a more robust physical package, but at a higher price.

The Fisher Impulse AQ offers excellent depth and superb sensitivity to gold jewelry - the machine is highly optimized for finding gold rings in particular. The most anticipated feature is discrimination better than that currently offered on any other pulse induction metal detector. The discrimination is focused more on high value gold rings than coins, and may actually exclude many coins if enabled. This is not considered a problem for many serious beach hunters as a lot of time is wasted recovering coins under difficult conditions when gold rings are actually the desired target. The compact waterproof design and relatively light weight is also attracting attention. Other Impulse models are expected to be aimed at gold prospectors and possibly even the relic/coin detecting market.

The Fisher Impulse Gold is a new ground balancing pulse induction (GBPI) metal detector with probable availability in 2021. The new Fisher Impulse Gold is a gold prospecting model being developed alongside the Fisher Impulse AQ model, which is intended for beach and water hunting. The Impulse Gold is expected to offer excellent depth and superb sensitivity to small gold nuggets due to an very low pulse delay capability. The compact design and light weight is also attracting a lot of attention.

A major design difference from the AQ model will be the inclusion of a ground balance control to deal with mineralized ground conditions. There may or may not be any ferrous discrimination features as are offered in the Fisher Impulse AQ due to the almost infinite range of target id numbers spanned by naturally occurring gold nuggets. It is likely that this model will also find applications with relic hunters, as has been the case with previous pulse induction gold prospecting metal detectors.

Production of the AQ Limited ceased in December 2020. According to this post, the final Impulse AQ will be released by July 2021, and it will sell for between $2800 and $3500. How this relates to the Impulse Gold model is unknown at this time.

The photo below shows the Fisher Impulse AQ prototype - the Fisher Impulse AU is probably of similar design although testing has been mentioned with a smaller coil.

The Fisher Gold Bug metal detector was introduced in 1987 and discontinued in 1998. It is a 19 kHz induction balance metal detector aimed primarily at gold prospecting. The original 19 kHz Gold Bug design is a classic, featuring an "S" rod with a compact removeable control box, plus a selection of elliptical search coils. There was nothing quite like it at the time, and the Gold Bug represents one of the first truly modern gold nugget detector designs.

"The metal detector engineered for one job... find gold nuggets in mineralized soil. Many gold bearing areas are literally peppered with small nuggets just inches below the surface. The trouble is, most metal detectors pass right over them. The nuggets are too small and the ground too mineralized. But not for the Gold Bug. It performs where others can't. Users have already reported finding thousands and thousands of nuggets in highly mineralized soil from here to Australia. Only 2.9 pouinds with a cushioned arm rest and grip, double locking fiberglass stem, push-button retune and double derivitive, quartz crystal locked electronics. All backed by a 5 year Limited Warranty and the world's oldest and proudest name in metal detectors." Source: Fisher Gold Bug brochure

The Fisher Gold Bug 2 metal detector was introduced in 1995 and is still in production. It is a 71 kHz induction balance metal detector aimed primarily at gold prospecting.

"The Gold Bug 2 is the best detector on the market for finding the tiniest gold nuggets. It offers extraordinary sensitivity; at 71 kHz it features the highest operating frequency on the market. The Gold Bug 2 also features iron discrimination, is dust and moisture resistant, has audio-boost and can operate in any type of soil with the choice of three mineralization modes. In the Iron Disc Mode the detector can identify hot rocks and small iron trash items like nails. An Audio Boost Mode increases the depth capability and automatically increases the volume of any faint signal such as a small or deep nugget." Source: Fisher 2016 catalog

The Tarsacci MDT 8000 metal detector was introduced in late 2018 and is still in production. It is a selectable frequency metal detector aimed primarily at beach detecting at this time but that may find applications in relic detecting and other types of detecting. The Tarsacci MDT 8000 allows the operator to choose between one of four operating frequencies - 6.4, 9, 12, and 18 kHz.

Tarsacci is a new U.S. based company just getting off the ground , founded by Dimitar Gargov. Dimitar worked previously at Fisher Labs and is credited with being a major force in the development of the Fisher Gold Strike, Coin Strike, and ID Edge detectors.

The Tarsacci MDT 8000 is a different detector in that it is employing time domain processing in a selectable single frequency detector. This is in addition to the frequency based phase processing typical of most single frequency detectors, and so the MDT 8000 is being referred to as having multi domain processing, or as the Tarsacci website calls it, Mixed Domain Technology. This means the MDT 8000 has some unique capabilities and operating characteristics compared to nearly all standard single frequency detectors on the market today. The method employed is unique and currently has a patent application pending.

In particular, the MDT 8000 features completely different controls for handling ground balancing, and also what it refers to as a salinity balance control. Multifrequency detectors usually handle the compensation for ground and salt mineralization as an under the hood process beyond user control. The Tarsacci MDT 8000 gives you the ability to ground balance with one control, and compensate for salinity and other low conductive issues with a separate control. In a nutshell, this unique ability is what makes the MDT 8000 different from other metal detectors available today. See the owner's manual link below for details.

From the Tarsacci MDT 8000 Owner's Manual:

"The Tarsacci was developed under the premise of mineralized dirt. There is a wide variance of minerals around the World. As such, performance may be gained (in many cases) with "Black Sand" and/or "Salt" Mode(s) invoked, even if local dirt conditions do not contain black sand or salt. Finding a few deeper targets; then experimenting with the Black Sand and Salt Modes on these deeper targets, can be a real eye-opener. For example: a combination of natural graphite (a form of hot rock) present in mineralized magnetic soil. In this case, find a piece of native graphite. Using the salinity balance function, balance the detector to it: then ground balance the detector. With a proper salinity balance setting, the graphite will no longer exist to the detector and the targets ID and detectability range, in graphite presence, will be greatly improved (unmasking more targets).

Depending upon local conditions, the Tarsacci can use the conductivity of the wet-salt to enhance overall depth performance. This is to say; there may be cases whereby buried wet-salt performance presents better results when compared to air-test performance. It is also common for the conductive wet-salt to increase depth performance too much; subsequently, lowering the Sensitivity a few points becomes a 'stability' requirement. Remember: The intended purpose of balancing the Tarsacci to "Salt"...… is to generate a condition whereby the Tarsacci no longer sees the wet-salt; unlike conventional detectors that must phase-shift out/compensate for the wet salt. If the Tarsacci sees/uses too much of the conductive properties of the wet-salt, the unit may become unstable; hence, zero the salt via "Salt" balance. Use this function wisely and to your advantage. If the volume of salt becomes too conductive (i.e.: submerged in salt water) it may also become a requirement to lower Sensitivity in order to bring excessive (unstable) depth performance back down to maximum (stable) depth performance."

What enhances the Vaquero’s versatility is its 3-3/4-turn manual-adjust ground balance, which gives the detectorist the capability to set up the machine to suit mineralization conditions and personal treasure-hunting style. We’ve also added an ED180 discrimination feature for filtering trash from treasure, a push-button pinpoint for easier digging, and a VCO-style all-metal operating mode—features that give the Vaquero its “do anything” power. With a weight of just under 2.2 pounds, the flexibility to use any Lobo SuperTRAQ or Tejón accessory coils, and its lifetime warranty, the Vaquero is the ultimate go-anywhere treasure tool." Source: Tesoro 2007 catalog

The Tesoro Tiger Shark metal detector was introduced in 2000 and ceased production in 2018. The Tiger Shark is a fully submersible 12.5 kHz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at beach and underwater detecting. The Tiger Shark is submersible to 200 feet and therefore suitable for SCUBA diving. Note however that the coil and headphones are hardwired for extra waterproof integrity and are not interchangeable. There is a choice of 8" or 10.5" search coils at the time of purchase.

"The Tiger Shark is hands down one of the best fresh water metal detectors on the market. This simple machine is made for the detectorist who wants to spend their time finding treasure, not memorizing special controls and techniques. The Tiger Shark’s Salt Mode changes the ground balance range to handle salt instead of minerals. This detector’s coil and headphones are hardwired to the machine to protect the machine from leaks, allowing it to be submerged up to 200 feet. Available with an 8” or 10.5” search coil." Source: Tesoro 2013 catalog

The Tesoro Outlaw metal detector was introduced in 2012 and ceased production in 2018. It is a 10.6 kHz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at coin, jewelry, and relic detecting.

"The Outlaw represents the return of true no motion, all-metal treasure hunting. This detector is a continuation of the Bandido series of metal detectors, which was designed with all of the controls needed to get maximum performance from its machines. Like its predecessors, the Outlaw has discrimination, sensitivity, threshold, and ground balance adjustments. Its “Retune” button is used to reduce the response from the metal, which shrinks the target area and allows for precise pinpointing. The Outlaw is available with either an 8” round concentric coil, or a three-pack of coils: 5.75” round concentric, 8” round concentric, and 12x10” widescan. The 8” coil provides great balance between depth and sensitivity, and is an efficient pinpointer. The 5.75” coil utilizes tremendous sensitivity, making it an optimal tool for pinpointing targets. The 12x10” coil is less susceptible to ground effects, which means it is perfect for heavily mineralized sites or hunting larger targets." Source: Tesoro 2013 catalog

The Tesoro Mojave metal detector was introduced in 2017 and ceased production in 2018. It is a 12 kHz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at coin, jewelry, and relic detecting.

"The Mojave is a newly designed 12 Khz detector with 2 position HIGH and LOW ground condition switch for varying soil conditions. The Mojave will broaden hunting capabilities from coast to coast! In low to moderate ground conditions the LOW setting will gain more depth. The HIGH setting will overcome the worst ground conditions while maintaining smooth and clean target responses. From land to sea and deserts to mountains, the Mojave has the power and performance to tackle any type of changing ground conditions and soil types around the world! The Precision 7” featherweight and thin profile coil is the ideal size for tough trashy areas for jewelry, coin, ring and relic hunting. Lightning fast response and retuning allow the Mojave’s 7” coil to surgically remove targets amongst the trash. Pinpointing is a snap with the new target centering reticle. New TRI-COLORED ZONES with easy identifying and adjustment in discrimination level. The Full Range 180 Discrimination covers everything from ALL METALS to screw cap rejection. WHITE, YELLOW and RED Zones from 6 o’clock to 4 o’clock for easy reference to the user." Source: Tesoro website

The Tesoro DeLeon metal detector was introduced in 2003 and ceased production in 2018. It is a 10 kHz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at coin, jewelry, and relic detecting.

"The DeLeón is a Target Identification Detector or T.I.D. The DeLeón is designed as an easy to use, turn-on-and-go detector. The faceplate has only four controls: Sensitivity, Discriminate, Threshold and a Mode Switch. It uses the same circuitry as the Cortés, so you can expect the same depth and sensitivity from the DeLeón that the Cortés is already well known for. The DeLeón’s display screen is one character high by eight characters wide. It is larger and easier to read than the Cortés display. Starting from left to right on the illustration, you will see that the DeLeón has a Coin Depth reading, a five segment bar graph and a two digit Target ID Number. The bar graph shows several categories for ID purposes, but we recommend that it be used with the ID Number for the most accurate information." Source: Tesoro 2007 catalog
