The Teknetics T2 metal detector was  introduced in 2006 and is still in production. It is a 13 kHz VLF metal detector aimed primarily at coin, relic, jewelry, and gold nugget detecting. Note that the T2 is the base model of a series that includes many variations, leading to some confusion, so be careful when comparing advertised versions of this detector. See also the T2 Ltd and T2+. The original basic T2 was reissued as the T2 Classic in 2015.

"The Teknetics T2 is a new high-performance multi-purpose professional grade metal detector. It utilizes the latest advances in electronic technology,
and its functional design represents the leading edge of the metal detector engineering art. The T2 is easier to learn to use properly than other
comparable metal detectors. Its combination of light weight and balance provides comfort unmatched by any other detector in its price range. Its
most popular uses include coinshooting, relic hunting, and gold prospecting."

The T2 is the most comfortable detector I've ever owned, fantastic ergonomics.  It also has a ground balance/pinpoint trigger switch which I think should be standard on all VLF detectors, it's just so convenient.  The detector itself runs off 4 AA batteries and they just go and go forever, I've had weeks of use out of my T2 without having to charge the batteries once, Other detectors I'm throwing on charge every night or two after use, the T2 just keeps on going, lasts an entire camping trip which is great as it's not easy to charge in the middle of nowhere.

The T2 is a very deep machine, it's target ID's are very respectable and it's iron separation is fantastic, especially with the 5" coil, it has a fast recovery speed.  There are many coils available for the T2 by all the aftermarket manufacturers along with a good range of manufacturer coils, the 5 x 10" and 5" are my favorite manufacturer coils preferring the aftermarket brands for the larger coils.

The menu system is simple to use, with only a knob and a button to navigate around even a first timer can get the hang of using it very quickly.

It can be prone to EMI problems but using a smaller coil or an aftermarket coil along with turning the sensitivity down a bit usually resolve it, it has a frequency shift but the changes in frequency it does don't seem to be enough to help many EMI issues.  Also in discriminate mode the EMI can be far less of a problem.

It was once a very expensive top of the line machine but with recent aggressive cost cutting It's now a great value machine.

I purchased it for its prospecting ability originally as it's been a very popular machine in Africa for prospecting, for 0.3 of a gram nuggets and above it's an excellent prospecting machine, it's not quite as sensitive as higher frequency machines on the smaller nuggets but in a place where bigger nuggets can be found, it would serve the purpose very well.

It has a nice and loud inbuilt speaker with volume control which I appreciate..
