Do you feel the striking power to be an issue?

Hey Steve I have been looking at the Hodan 36 inch. Knowing now they are limited I need to make a move on it. I personally do not like my Apex pick. Its just to well build(heavy duty) so I have been using by dredge pick Estwing GEO pick. I really like that pick as far as size and weight but being all metal not the best for detecting. Is the Hodan comparable to the Estwing.

What year's did you work at the Dom? My brothers wife worked there a few years back as a counselor. On that note a few years back contracting hired us to paint the interior. Well they let the gals in admin pick the colors. Titty pink as I referred to it. As I recall that got changed to blue after the admin area. I am on Canyon creek. Only took five years for some ground to open up. Persistence pays off.

Brian with my luck, probably the last bit of gold on the claim. Chris I did pick up the 2016 dredge permit today. FYI - ADF&G is issuing a general use permit for Resurrection and six mile creeks so my permit is good for both of us.

Chris, that's good cause that is where I plan to put you and the misses when you get here. That one is from the upper claim that has been snowed in till recently. Looks like we will find descent gold there and the access is easy compared to the lower claim. We can drive rite to this one. Busy getting ready for the Homer trip this weekend. Hope you folks like Halibut and Rockfish. Be safe on the drive and take a lot of pictures for the forum. It really is an awesome adventure up the Alcan.

I agree that has got to be the best sample I have got with a pan, not so much for the size of the gold but the amount of colors. Generally if I get 6-12 colors I would get serious about the spot. So much for lazy Saturday fun looks like I have to do some dredging! It's spring time and the snow melt is in full force so the river is a bit too much rite now but when things settle down I promise to do the dredge and will bring you folks along. Steve, get with the powers to be. We need a pan with built in detector - something like the falcon molded in and a ring of led lights around the rim to alert the presence of gold. That would actually be a cool pan.

Headed out Saturday for a quick trip to the river. Just a pan and my camera - Oh and by prospecting buddie. Any way I sampled three or four spots with little luck, finally come across a large boulder with a bit of flow material behind it and gave it a go. Did not expect much as it was loose and obviously resent, well to my surprise................. So the question is what would you consider a good sample Pan? FYI - I like the 14 inch GPAA pan green color, wide bottom and medium sized riffles.

Chris coil is in! Can't wait to give it a go, after using the GB2 for the last few years I was uncomfortable with the larger coil snipping bedrock. Thanks for the fast shipping.

I'll try again. The last one I tried was only two weeks ago, but I probably did something wrong. Hope I can get it together. I have some good photos you may like. Moose at Bird Creek and sheep on the way to Canyon Creek.

One funny thing with the latest and greatest is they have lots of features to try and convince you not to dig.

Funny how the gold always looks bigger in the sluice than in the pan. I did find the location with the new Makro Gold Racer, picked up three flakes maybe 1/10 gram. So small that I had to scoop the dirt and pan it to retrieve the gold. Pin pointer is in the shop wore a hole rite thru it.

One of my favorite types of prospecting is sluice and panning. No loud motors, no beeping and buzzing detectors just the sound of the river and nature in general. Anyway, thought I would post some pictures. Not a real big haul, but for the six - three gallon buckets I ran - I am happy.

High Dean, I would set up a separate motor with T80. I have a 4 HP Honda with P160 and T80 the weight would be to much for a Keene 2 Inch dredge. If you only use it on occasion I would look at a DC powered air compressor. Guy's use the screw driver to probe the ground. Unless the item is on edge you will fell the probe stop and if you move over a bit it will slide past. This way you can pull items without cutting a plug. Be mindful a screwdriver will scratch the crap out of a coin and ruin it. I use a coin probe with a small Bearing brazed to the tip. Eklawok, I picked up a Gold Racer this week. Been testing it in the parks after work. I found a penny that might be interesting to see. No great value but the date is encouraging.

Eklawok, Silver in Anchorage is hard to find. I think the question is not so much how deep but where to look. Here is a post on the topic. Most of the tot lots have been revamped with new play areas in the last five years and when that happens they usually dig the sand/wood chip ect. and replace it with new. Most down a foot. With that being, I notice a lot of the off the beaten path parks do have older coins but the silver is still elusive. Its very interesting I can find penny and nickels to about 40's - 50's but the dimes and quarters and what not 65 is the limit. The only exception is foreign coins that do not have silver. I don't want to turn you off, I am sure silver is out there somewhere just know it will take effort. And if you find one let me know. HH.
