  1. One reason I never jumped the gun and bought the gpz, I am not as tech-savvy as some one the forum...after reading all the reviews and difficulties on programming and ground balancing I opted out. So one suggestion to Minelab is to develop a user friendly advanced machine for the rest of us. I am positive more detectors would be sold....Yeah I admit it... technology makes my head spin. But don't forget we have money/gold burning in our pockets ..we want to spend it.
  2. Californiagold, great write up on the Gold Monster....sounds very promising. Can't agree with you more on the Detech coil....good to hear the 18 " Mono is a good coil. Another Detech you should try is the 15x10 E Mono. It will BLOW you away ! By far found me more gold than any other coils I have had or have. Good luck in the gold fields form another Cali-Hunter....
  3. What a life.....Vagabond is what I think of when I follow Paul's adventures. If we can all live this way......Kudos to you !
  4. Great story, just saw the Aussie news report..sounds like a great guy and after 37 years of searching for the " Big One " he found it. Wondering just how large of a nugget should be before you name it? 5 ounces, 10 ounces, or 1 troy pound and above?
  5. Phoenix, yup, thats one reason I did not file a 50 dollar claim and had the postal service return it to me. Unbelievable that they wanted to charge me for the return. I went to my local post office and explained to them how stupid the policy is,they were responsible for the damage and should pay for the return back to me. Postmaster agreed and made some phone call to the Virginia Postmaster and I received it yesterday. I put it on the detector to see if the copper windings were damaged, although it was hard to find a clean spot to test it do to iron trash in the ground I did manage to find some areas and after a few minutes it appears its working... I had some epoxy and managed to repair several cracks . Next week I will take it out for a good test and hopefully she will purrr like an undamaged coil she used to be...still a but heavy..I will just keep it and use it on flat ground.
  6. Yup, has never happened before , the odds are it probably won't happen again for a number of years. Rob, feel for you man...hope FED EX does the right thing.....its a lot of money to lose.
  7. Just some good advice if you ever sell some detecting equipment, always purchase extra insurance. Priority mail covers only 50 bucks !! Bought this great Detech coil spiral wound from a friend....was in perfect condition but I found it a bit heavy for all around use. I decided to sell it to a fellow who "was" going to use it back in Virginia for relics as its a double d coil and would have worked out fine if it was not " DESTROYED" somewhere by usps . So, if you're shipping something over 50 bucks buy that extra insurance....I am hoping it still works, going to give it a try tomorrow and see....looking at it I doubt it.......Insure, insure for sure next time!
  8. The handle on the impact looks very comfortable, the whole design is superb which looks to be less of a pain on the joints and wrists than the S - Handle style. If the performance matches the looks..this detector would make a nice backup to a GPX.
  9. Ohhh Man...look at that flat ground.... Open desert hunting.......very nice indeed especially with friends. Nice nuggets.....
  10. Sweet piece Dave.....she's a beauty for sure. That ZED sure delivers .....
  11. Detectron 7-T...................1980 was 12 years old. Damn time flies......just not United !
  12. sweet......New Mexico nugget !
  13. Very good video..sure cures the bad weather/skunk blues for me.....hope the Aussie gang has a video coming soon, by the looks of it, the rain is not going away.....and the grass is so tall makes swinging the coil a pain in the....
  14. I don't know about these detector manufacturers, I mean Really?? So suspenseful..is this a trailer to a movie or a detector? I don't know about you guys/gals but all I want is a freakin detector that discriminates deeper. It's a tool, not a movie.....it's high time that manufacturers realize most of us don't need teasers.....just the FACTS. Sorry about the rant.....been in the SKUNK to long......
  15. Just got back from another day of trash recovery. And yes, I am frustrated because I have been in a skunk for a number of weeks and all I have now is iron infested tailing piles.... As far as detectors...I still use the 4500 and find no reason to upgrade. Gpx machines have a huge variety of coils available which makes this detector capable of good depth and also get the small gold. I don't plan on upgrading until SOMEONE comes up with a machine that has the ability to recognize trash form yellow. Until then I will keep going out and picking out trash until a bit of yellow shows up....but to be honest trash is not a great motivator, gold is.
  16. I can care less where the detector is made, if it exceeds the capabilities of any VLF or PI and has excellent discrimination abilities at depth I would buy it. I hunt to find gold, anything that gives me the edge to get to that nugget quicker with less trash/to good target ratios I would buy. There are endless amounts of tailings and areas full of trash that have gold in them. Most of these areas are virgin because we get frustrated hunting for hours and hours digging freakin trash....it gets a bit discouraging. So, perhaps we need to motivate some company on this planet to work on this miracle machine because their are plenty of people who will spring for it. For some of us, the only grounds available at this point are trash infested grounds...we need a tool that will see the yellow between the rust.
  17. sweet....what was the largest in weight? thanks for sharing.... Will you be doing more of that on the private claim?
  18. On the way !!! Be there in the morning..........
  19. Rege, The Hermit pick is nice....it's lightweight and easy on the carpal tunnel.
