  1. Here are some of mine....smaller than the 20 pounder.....but still kinda cool.
  2. Great work Peg !! Those are some nice specimens of gold....looks like some stuff I have seen in California..flat sheets or seam gold....congrats n best of luck in Florida.
  3. I do like the look and the handle style is much more comfortable on my wrist. Yes its another vlf ...but pretty impressive on how clear the tone is on that non ferrous target with the iron nail over it. For me that would be the key to buying one, not necessarily the depth. Some detectors for my ears at least have way to much chatter..in trashy areas..would love to see more tests done by Detech in showing us what makes this one different form the others.
  4. Looks like it worked like a charm.....thanks for all the pics....great job.
  5. It's there right to protect there technology and patents....Minelabs been good to me and hope they continue making the best detectors out there. Lets put it this way...we all love those gold show and tell pics we all share once in the while..most all found by Minelab detectors....YahoooYippee and Hooray for Minelab..go get em!
  6. The picture with the gold nuggets surrounding a beautiful specimen looks very nice..... love the specimen !
  7. Is it an orange coil, 15 inch mono or a dd.....? If its the old orange 15" Mono Coiltek, it works very good on the gpx series.
  8. Thanks for sharing your finds....always a treat for us at home when the weather is bad to hunt...
  9. GoldSeeker, Yup missed it.....did my ole speed read....getting old...damn I hate it.......worst is the eyes....now I Have to get my dang reading glasses when I pick out the gold out of the ground....glad he got the 4500.....its the one I use.
  10. Bigsky, Most of us on this forum would agree you made a good decision. The Makro Gold is a very capable machine just takes time and you need to get the coil over gold. That's about it, all of us have started with a vlf and found good gold...mine was a Whites GM2..yours is more advanced and has a lot more going for it than the older models. After a a year or maybe few years, you may want to add a Minelab to get more depth and stability in those heavy mineralized areas..good luck, and good hunting.
  11. Nice job, looks like it paid off with the gold nuggets...we are getting some rain Friday & Saturday , maybe a wet season....we need it.
  12. "Actually, gold can vary even within the same deposit" Interesting, did not know that, thanks Chris...Chris is it possible to have gold purity even higher than 98% in its natural unrefined state in California?
  13. Gold I have found in my county in California so far has a range form 18kt or 750 to 23 karats or 96.50 % pure. The real pure stuff 23 karats comes from one spot and I could not believe it myself until I had it tested at a jewelry shop.
  14. Hi Jim, You pegged it, its a 2005 Chevy Tahoe....they are notorious to these problems....
  15. Great post.....and subject! Been avoiding fixing my ride as it still putters...but just 2 months ago I had that dreadful day in the foothills...flat tire...slate pierced my side wall to a brand new tire. Problem was, I did not have my spare tire tool kit, that long metal rod that you crank the tire down from underneath the vehicle!! Luckly I was in a walking distance from the main highway and had someone give me a lift home..came back with a jack and a hack saw....took me 2 hours to cut the support rod and brace that held the tire on. Three hours latter tire replaced. Now my damned 4x4 selector switch is stuck in all wheel drive, wonder when it will go and get me stuck, the list goes on....thanks for the reminder dude... oh crap did I mention front brakes, coolant leak, cracked front wind shield....ohh well hope today is not the day she quits on me.
  16. Great question Kiwi, Nenad Lonic made a video that put Nuggetfinder, Coilteck and one of the Detech coils to a test...would love to see a test with the new 11" Detech coil and the 12" NF evo coil on small sub gram nuggets.
  17. Buy the big bottle, best deal and you get more for your money. On the other hand 100 % Hydrofluoric acid, is for the experts trained in its use.
  18. Tazman, Wink has 1 % Hydrofluoric acid and works better than CLR...it will clean it up good.Just use precaution......
  19. Use common sense when digging in public parks and areas with grass. Stay away from school football / sport fields. If a coach sees you you will get the boot or cops will show up. Seen it many times...Unfortunately many detectorists in the past and even today leave holes and athletes have stepped into them. Make small holes and use a pin pointer. If your new to detecting I would also recommend joining your local metal detecting club...good luck and have fun!
  20. That's when you have to think about the Risk vs Reward ? Is it worth it....cliffs scare the Hell out of me....if there is a slope, that's a different matter. I hunt 5 days a week, and I would like to continue hunting into my golden years...plus my 3 kids are always on my mind. Glad you made it home safe...... GoldHound, now why did you have to go and show us you gold??.............Damn I envious !!~ Very nice. Any hints on the release of the next video?
  21. Put it in Wink for a few days...... 8 bucks for large bottle at True Value Hardware
  22. That's a real nice Irish Nugget, it would motivate me to look a bit closer for more. Job well done , thanks for sharing.
