  1. Youtube is great for knowledge. Just this week i Youtubed how to fix a leaky toilet. Replaced all the seals on both toilets. $$ saved by not getting a plumber in. Then how to get something stuck out of a zip. (my daughters expensive top stuck in a bag zip ... not my willy, lol) Use it everyday for things relating to repairs of cars, computers, houses. Then comes Facebook. Mostly couldn't care less what everyone else is doing i mainly use it for knowledge about prospecting. Amazing when your in 100 or so groups and you want to do some research on an area. Ive found spots to go by typing in an area and reading all the comments from within all my groups. There may be a post that starts out talking about one subject but by the time 20 comments are added the conversation turns to a particular spot someone found nuggets. Worth knowing either for places to avoid as its now general knowledge or some place you may want to try. I also do similar research on places within forums. Instagram I rarely frequent other than for business purposes.
  2. A concentric coil from another manufacturer.
  3. Im hearing you. My family thinks ive gone mad. Especially after each trip where i dont find gold and say im selling my gear. But a day later im on the forums and doing more research frothing at the mouth ready for the next trip.
  4. Now that might interest me enough to buy a QED.
  5. Is that some sort of micro chip inside the gpz14 coil? Dosnt appear to be one in the x-coil. What would the chip do
  6. Thanks Rick, Got to say my first impression was it looks terrible inside compared to the Minelab 14". Real backyard job. Im surprised as they look professionally made on the outside. Im told the Russians have sent my 20" coil so looking forward to its arrival. Not doing the 22x21 x-coil now apparently.
  7. Could someone please explain what the faulty solder joint means. This picture of the gpz 14 coil shows wires coming out of the receive windings is this the area that's not excepting the ferrite balance correctly on the x-coil? Or is it the tx wire at the top of the coil where it looks like it may be joined/soldered? Photo credit: detectorprospector.com
  8. Will be interesting to see if the coil connection is the same as the x-coil. (chip bypass & gpx plug) Reading between the lines it looks like its Nuggetfinder releasing the coil.
  9. I wasn't sure how long it took to get to operating temperature so did my ferrite balance on start up and then again after half an hour of detecting. Through out this detecting session I would check the ferrite on the ground to see if any response was coming from it.
  10. Yeah i know what you mean about being OCD. when made my 4500 patch lead to run a lipo battery i checked it so many times and then crossed my fingers when turning on the detector for the first time.
  11. Getting a wee bit nervous now about making my patch lead Sorry to hear about your issues Condor, must be stressful not knowing exactly what the problem is. I hope everything gets sorted out somehow for you. Cheers Rick
  12. Hey Rick. Yes both 22 x 21 x-coils are for the two Rick's. I just re read my email and Dave said the Russian maker would hopefully send them in 4 or 5 days. That email was 4 days ago. The Russian guy is flat out making coils but i asked Dave to see if he would make me one if i gave him say 3 months, which he agreed upon. Im happy to wait and have tried not to put any pressure on Dave as its only been a couple of months. Good luck with the 12" i may order that one as well. I recon that would be a good all rounder sized coil. I also ordered my lower shafts from Lucky strike but they only had one in stock, now i know why, lol. Cheers Rick (Jin)
  13. According to Dave, a few days ago the 22 x 2's hadn't left Russia yet (they might have now) Although ive got the 10" im in no hurry to put it on. Just ordered two lower shafts for the zed a few minutes ago but they will take a week to arrive. Need to order the plugs for the patch leads which ill do tomorrow as the ones i got where incorrect. Will probably do the patch lead in a week or so.
  14. Good to hear Dave. Only new to the 7000 so wasn't sure if the zed behaved differently when a 14 or 19 was attached. Looking forward to trying these coils out myself soon
  15. If the chip tell the 7000 which coil is being used does the detector react differently when either the gpz14 or gpz19 is fitted? Just asking as wondering when you have used the gpz19 coil as the donor chip for the patch lead and then you fit a 10" x-coil if the detector is running at its best. I would think there wouldnt be a difference, but who knows whats going on within the electronics/software
  16. Or change the plug on the gpz to suite the x-coil plug. Yes i wouldnt be the first to try the double chip
  17. I probably haven't thought this out to well but would it be possible to cut off the chip and fit it inside the gpz case behind the plug that connects the coils. This would solve a possible extra connection problem. the gpz14 or whatever you sacrificed and any x-coil would plug in without having a patch lead in between causing possible loose wire interference. Might be a problem though if you tried using another gpz coil that had the chip on the lead.
  18. Seems ive hit my ? quota for the day Simon so no like for your post until tomorrow by the looks of things. I might have to delete cookies or something to get around this in future. Im actually surprised that glue or tape is needed. Never did that with my 5 pin plug on the patch lead for the 4500. Its not like where using the patch lead to lift up a 20kg bag of cement. The wires are soldered, the plug cover goes on - end of story. I took my 4500 patch lead on/off all the time. Tugged at it, knocked it and bent it when detecting often. Still stayed together fine. Its not like there should be lots of force on the 7000 patch lead its inside the shaft connected to a coily lead.
  19. So after all that its probably best to follow the instructions sent out by Dave which says use the glue One day ill learn to read the instructions first. But at least this thread brought up some good points about getting the enamel off the wire
  20. Would you say the coil is still usable though JP? Or it displayed no benefit over using the gpz19 I was just re watching your treasure talk video (below) and it quite clearly shows that General/Difficult is the go to setting in your ground when using a larger coil Im a little concerned if your 22x21 displayed problems in general/difficult as im getting that coil. As the Russian manufacturer is only building two 22"x 21" coils (as far as im aware of) i doubt much improvement has come about since making your one The quote below mentions salt as being a problem once a coil become to large. Was this one of the problems you encountered with the 22x21? Possibly saturation also? Hopefully not to many questions JP and you are in a position to answer some of them if you have time. Edit: No need for a reply to this post JP, I found you have answered most of these questions in previous posts.
  21. I was always under the impression that Tigers where more aggressive in the summer and browns in the spring. Something to do with their mating/breading season. The last encounter i had with a brown was at the Laanecoorie caravan park when a baby brown shot past my thongs at high speed. Beautiful creature it was. Good to know that bears dont go around eating people Goldseeker as I have been invited to go back to Canada for some prospecting by someone i met over there.Thinking a 6 month trip might be in order in a couple of years. My mate says head up to Barkerville for some nice nuggets.
  22. Yes it would be good if all our snakes over here rattled a warning sound if you got to close. Just spent 3 weeks in Canada and Alaska and after seeing 20 odd bears on the trip I reckon bears or cougars would worry me more. Imagine detecting and a bear comes up behind you. Certainly wouldn't detect with headphones there.
  23. good point, i might test the liquid tape to see what it dries like. If no good ill go the with the glue.
